Orange & Teal

I heard a fair bit about Orange & Teal with Politician Dr Chee Soon Juan and his Wife behind the opening of this homely cafe.  The Interior was well decorated and with a bookshelf and piano on the side. I find that the dining environment is dim with a cosy ambience. The vibe is good and it gives a comfortable feeling of dining in such a place.

While waiting for the food, we have a glass of Mocha Frapp.

Also, a glass of Vanilla Shake.

The Hawaiian Pizza was a normal fare, served with 6 slices. It was thin-crusted, topped with sweetened pineapples, ham with tomato and cheese-based.

Honey Mustard Grilled chicken was sweet and tasty with some charred edges. It was paired with some sides like peas, tomato, potatoes and carrots. However, the portion may be inadequate for some.

This is a vegan-friendly dish. It was made with plant-based ingredients and served with fresh spinach, cherry tomatoes and truffle-infused portobello mushrooms.

Unfortunately, the air ventilation was not good enough and our clothing reeked of the kitchen smoke as we left the place. The food was decent but the menu was very limited when it comes to mealtime. Perhaps the environment is good for some cakes and coffee during tea time.

Wrap & Roll [Closed]

Having Wrap & Roll has been a thought in my mind a while ever since I visited Star Vista in Bouna Vista. Whenever I enter a vietnamese cuisine restaurant, I can't do without a bowl of their noodle soup for I'm so in love with their Pho.

Environment
Thus, I order their Phở bò, Beef Noodle Soup. The broth was decent and clear with subtle herb taste but it did not have the grabbing taste that I'm looking for.

Beef Noodle Soup - $12.90
Unlike the usual sweetened lemon grass drink I had, Wrap & Roll's had hints of bitterness but its complemented by the sugar sweetness as well as the sour taste from the little lemon wedge.

Lemon Grass Tea
Another not to miss in a Vietnamese dining place will be their dripping coffee. You can order it with or without milk.

One thing I like about Wrap & Roll is its availability of vegetarian food and it makes it easier to dine out with my vegetarian friend. Phở xào rau nấm was vegetarian friendly with Pho being stirred fried and added with ingredients like mushroom and tofu. Portion was alright and was not too oily.

Replacing the summer rolls will be Cuốn rối, another vegetarian starter that you can share with your friends. Crunchy and fresh with ingredients wrapped securely by rice paper, being a non-vegetarian, I'm pretty happy with the taste. However there is a strong herb smell from the vegetables used in the roll which my vegetarian pal was not totally in favour of that.

Individual Piece
Overall, dining at Wrap & Roll gives you a good introduction to Vietnamese Cuisine and a decent filling meal.

Owl Cafe [Closed]

I still can remember how the aroma from the brewing Owl Coffee stirred me awake every morning when my parents never failed to have a cup of them for breakfast. I always relate "Owl" to their coffee until I discovered their cafe in Bouna Vista.

Owl Cafe
Dining Interior

Owl Cafe is the first straits Asian Cafe in Singapore. With various blends of authentic Straits Asian-inspired coffee and after 50 years of roasting and blending coffee in its name, having a a cup of coffee in their Cafe will just never go wrong.

Owl Cafe Menu

Besides just coffee, they are proud to serve their Straits Asian Food from snacks to main courses as well as desserts.

In Pursuit of the Perfect Cup of Coffee
Fish Noodle (Yu Mian) was rather special to me as its not common in Singapore. Thickness of the noodles are larger than the thick bee hoon and very soft as I bite on it. These fish noodles were served in rich fish broth with seafood like prawns, fish, fishballs and crabstick. The broth is creamy in color and rather tasty.

 Seafood Fish Noodle - $7.80
Bawan Kepeiting Broth is one of the recommendations on the menu. The meat balls are a good mix of chicken and crab meat served in clear tasty chicken soup. You can pair this broth with steamed rice, glass noodle or macaroni at additional $1.

Slices of duck with sauce was cradled by the crispy spring onion prata. Stuffing like cool juvenile cucumbers added had given additional refreshing and crunchy bites to the roll!

Otah on the toast was not bad. The dish featured a traditional toast with tasty Otah spread with slightly burnt taste.

Otah Otah - $2.80
Moving on to the desserts, we have traditional chendol made from shaved ice, coconut starch noodles and gula melaka. Instead of having chendol the usual style, syrup over shaved ice, they have it served the reverse way which makes having chendol dessert enjoyable.

Chendol - $3.80
Washing down our food with the Malaysian style Gula Melaka Teh had also make the dining experience different. Instead of having conventional sugar over our beverages, palm sugar syrup was used.

Gula Melaka Teh - $3.20
Gula Melaka Kopi - $3.20
Having been to a number of cafes in the same line as what Owl Cafe are selling, e.g. Old Town,  papparich, I find that Owl Cafe standards are better and the uniqueness of food served make them stands out on their own. Ambiance was relaxing and unpretentious, a perfect choice to keep yourselves away from the bustling weekends crowd. What's more if you want to be closer abit to the nature, they have wooden theme alfresco dining.  My trip was Owl Cafe was satisfying indeed.
