Feng Food

Feng Food is no stranger to me, I have come across them frequently at local coffeeshops. However, this visit to their full-scale outlet at Woodlands Woodsquare gave me a whole new impression. The mall branch offers a more extensive menu, showcasing a wider variety of Taiwanese classics that go beyond the usual quick bites.

Feng Food

If you’re craving hearty Taiwanese fare, this place hits the mark. From comforting bowls of Lu Rou Fan to crispy fried chicken cutlets and sides like salted egg sweet potato fries, their menu has something for every tastebud. The space is casual yet inviting, ideal for anything from a quick meal to a family gathering.

Menu

What makes it even better is their weekday promotion, they offer 15% off your total bill from Monday to Friday, 11am to 5pm, excluding weekends and public holidays. It’s a wallet-friendly deal that’s hard to pass up, especially for office workers or nearby residents.

15% off on Total Bill

Feng Food has also earned several F&B awards over the years, which adds to their credibility. With no service charge on top of it all, this eatery delivers both value and taste. If you’re looking for affordable Taiwanese cuisine that doesn’t skimp on flavour, this is a great go-to spot in the north.

Dishes & No Service Charge

Kicking off our Taiwanese feast with a refreshing cucumber starter, crunchy bites lifted by a bold, spicy garlic dressing. Simple yet satisfying!

Cucumber with Spicy Garlic Dressing 蒜辣黄瓜 - $5

Next up, we had the Taiwanese sausage with garlic, a familiar and comforting dish. True to tradition, it was served with raw garlic slices on the side, offering that unmistakable punch of flavour that complements the sweet, savoury notes of the sausage. The bold pairing may not be for everyone, but it’s a classic combination loved by many.

Taiwanese Sausage with Garlic 现烤蒜味香肠 - $7.60

Something unexpected from the Taiwanese menu, Shrimp & Kimchi Fried Rice. Not your usual pick, but surprisingly well executed. Each grain of pearl rice was evenly coated with the tangy, spicy kick of kimchi, and it came generously topped with plump, juicy prawns and a perfectly done sunny-side-up egg. A satisfying twist that worked beautifully.

Shrimp & Kimchi Fried Rice 泡菜虾仁炒饭 - $7.90

Shrimp & Pork Wanton Noodles tossed in fiery chilli oil – silky dumplings packed with juicy filling, springy noodles, and a punchy kick in every bite.

Shrimp & Pork Wanton Noodles with Fiery Chilli Oil 红油虾肉抄手拌面(关) - $12.80

Don’t be fooled by the name, the Brown Sugar Caramel Pearl Milk Tea wasn’t overly sweet at all. It was refreshingly balanced and did a great job cooling things down after all the spice.  A soothing finish to the heat!

Brown Sugar Caramel Pearl Milk Tea 黑糖焦糖奶茶 - $4.50

Here’s the perfect cooling finish, Taiwanese Leong Aiyu Jelly! Zesty, light, and just what I needed to calm the lingering spice on my tongue.

Ubi Claypot Lala (Woodlands)

Congrats Ubi Claypot Lala on their Second outlet located in Woodlands Industrial. It will be good especially for those who are residing in other side of Singapore as we do not need to travel all the way to east.

UBI Claypot Lala

While their self-serve items for the Claypot Lala were in the chiller, every item was charged based on the colour of the plates.

Charges List

They are known for the first charcoal lala claypot in Singapore. The small and big pot soup base is available for Claypot Lala. However, if you prefer the Claypot Prawn, they only have one size.

Price List for their Claypot

Besides Lala, they offer individual portions of Claypot dishes on their lunch menu.

Lunch Menu

Let's take a sneak peek of the preparation of our order in the kitchen.

Cooking the Lala Bee Hoon

Here's our portion of Lala claypot and our favourite items like sliced fish, prawn paste, abalone, broccoli, Fortune Money Bag etc

Our Charcoal Claypot Feast

As usual, we took out the cooked lala and prevent it from further boiling so that we can get to enjoy the textural bite.

Lala

The normal size Lala was yummy, of the right textural bite and not too rubbery. The little spice and ginger elevates its taste.

Lala

Besides enjoying the Lala Hotpot, we had a separate order of Tiger Prawns Bee Hoon. It was served in an individual bowl of claypot with vegetables, egg tofu, vegetables and 3 tiger prawns in its milky & aromatic broth.

Tiger Prawns Bee Hoon - $9.80

Lala from the Hotpot

While every ingredient was cooked, we poured the rice bowl into the hotpot to make porridge.

Shabu Shabu

We enjoyed our bowl of seafood porridge with pork as well as abalone ~ the items that we had chosen. The sweet umami flavours of the soup base pairing with the distinctive grains of white rice were simply stomach comforting.

Woodlands Claypot Prawns

With increasing eateries hidden in Industrial areas, do check out this first and ever Charcoal Claypot Prawn in Woodlands Industrial Kopitiam. With just 2 items in the menu, namley Hokkien Mee and Claypot Prawns.

Woodlands Claypot Prawn

The Claypot Prawns adopt the concept of a hotpot concept where we can order ingredients like meat, vegetables, seafood to complement the meal.

Claypot and Steamboat Concept

Using the Claypot Method, this allows to keep the broth warm and claypot cooking is known to produce a better taste than normal pots cooking. Alot of effort has been put into preparation of the prawn broth,  simmering under the fire for hours in bringing out the natural flavours of the prawns. The speciality prawn broth (the base) costs $32.80.

Claypot Prawns

For prawns love who cannot get enough of prawns from the claypot prawns, you can topped up 500g of  prawns at additional $15.80 while the rest of the steamboat ingredient can be ordered via their menu with indicated pricing too.

The Speciality Prawn Broth comes generously with 12 big fresh prawns. The broth tasted robust and umami, packed of prawns natural flavours,.

Broth

The meat was bouncy and succulent. The broth was naturally sweet and we started off adding others ordered ingredients in it.

Ingredients added in Claypot

Ingredients like Fish Roe Fortune Bag is one of my favourites too.

Fish Roe Fortune Bag - $10.80

Giving the classic Hokkien Mee a twist, they added a raw egg on top of the noodles, inspired by the flavours of Moonlight Hor Fun. It was served with yellow mee as well as thick bee hoon. Generous pork lards, Sotong, pork belly and 2 large prawns were used. Remember to mix them with their special recipe homemade chilli sauce.

Hokkien Mee 福建面 - $8.80

Review of Citrus by the pool @ Woodlands [Media Invite]

Whenever I asked my friends about food recommendations in Woodland, I was led elsewhere. No doubt that Citrus by the Pool had been established for about 9 years, but I had never come across such a place and that explained my visit here. Citrus By The Pool is a Halal-certified café restaurant located at Woodlands Swimming Complex

Citrus By The Pool

It caught my surprise that their menu was very extensive and had many choices like pasta, western, waffles and even Thai Cuisine! The staff is friendly and the service is good.

The interior is cosy, spacious and comfortable. Good News for night owls out there as they are open daily till 5 a.m.

Interior

The Yam Mamuang (Thai Mango Salad) got us started on the meal with its harmonious blend of sweet, sour, salty and spicy tastes, adding on with its light and refreshing flavours. The shredded green mango was outstanding for its was not only served with roasted crushed peanuts, chilli and onions drizzled with the sweet and sour sauce but also topped with the fried sliced codfish.

What a fusion! The combination of Thai Chilli Crab Sauce and pasta can be served with either chicken or seafood. Flavours of crab with spicy and savoury elements of Thai Cuisine. Yums!

Thai Chilli Crab Pasta  (Chicken / Seafood) - $14 / $15.50

The Stir Fry Garlic Chicken is good for sharing. The succulency of the chicken pieces was made savoury with the bold flavours of garlic. It tasted good alone even without pairing it with jasmine rice.

Stir Fry Garlic Chicken (Gai Tod Kra Tiem) - $9.90

This appetising famous Thai Dish, Tom Yum Seafood Soup is known for its bold & tangy flavours. The delightful and aromatic soup featured a variety of seafood and gave a balance of sweet, and sour with spicy notes.

Clear Tom Yum Soup (Seafood) - $15.90

A healthy and tasty option that highlights the natural flavours of chicken with free-range poultry. It was delicious and wholesome combining the simplicity of grilling with the quality and flavour of the free-range chicken. Love the Pan Fried Sous Vide Chicken Thigh that carried a crisp on the outer layer and served with their seasonal vegetables coupled with homemade brown sauce.

Grilled Free-Range Chicken - $17.50

This Classic, popular and flavourful Thai Stir Fried noodle dish strike a perfect balance of sweet, salty and tangy flavours. It offers a delightful mix of texture and tastes.

Prawn Pad Thai - $13.90

The Thai Crispy Fish has always been my favourite from the Thai Menu and Citrus by the pool offers an option pairing it with Thai Chilli, Sweet and Sour Sauce or Dark Soy Sauce.

Thai Crispy Fish with Sweet & Sour Sauce - $29.90

The sweet notes and tanginess had married the crispiness of the deep-fried seabass. Its a delightful & flavourful dish indeed.

Seabass

The BBQ Squid with Thai Spicy Chili is a popular and delicious Thai Seafood Dish. The combination of smoky and tender grilled squid with its tangy, spicy and refreshing sauce was fantastic.

BBQ Squid with Thai Spicy Chilli (Pra Meuk Yang) - $9.90

Not many places sell this. The Thai Stuffed Chicken Wings which is also known as "Peek Gai Yad Sai" is a unique Thai Dish. The chicken wings are deboned, stuffed with a delicious mixture and was deep fried to its golden crispy perfection. Its a contrast of crispy chicken skin over a flavourful and savoury filling. The dipping sauce added a touch of sweetness, making this dish a mouthwatering treat.

Thai Stuffed Chicken Wing (Peek Gai Yad Sai) - $8.90

Besides having fusion dishes from their menu, we were impressed by the range of beverages too. Just take a look into their signature ice coffees and my kakis had already shortlisted two.

Their Signature Ice Coffees are Instagram-worthy with alluring colours.

Oceanic Iced Latte - $9

Want some fruity flavours with coffee? If you are adventurous, try this!

Passionfruit Sparkling Americano - $19

While our stomach was already reaching its limit, we were glad that we still have some space for desserts, their mini milkshakes.

Rainbow Paradise reminded me of my child hood favourite ice cream "Rainbow Paddle Pop". It was topped with some rainbow marshmallows and the milk shake was added with caramel sauce. Gummy was added too and it gave us surprises.

Rainbow Paradise - $9

We also had the Salted Caramel milk shake that was decorated with a slice of Lotus Biscuit. While we thought it will be sweet, it turns out that the sweetness level was acceptable by all of us.

Salted Caramel - $9.90

We could not resist but were told that their Molten Chocolate Lava Cake was highly recommended. It was handcrafted inhouse and the combination of warm gooey chocolate cake with the creaminess of the scoop of vanilla ice cream was a perfect treat to end our meal. What an indulgence!

Molten Chocolate Lava Cake - $13

Food is priced affordably and the portion is generous. It also can gather big family or groups dining. So if hunger pangs in the night, I will know where to go now.

Thank you Ericia & Citrus by the pool for the invitation.
