Green on Earth

We have always passed by this eatery that is located up on the hill but had never been there. Previously before the vegetarian took over, I remembered it was a Cze Char place and till one day it was never there, we still yet to visit the place. However thanks to the Vegetarian colleague who gets hook to the Mala there and thus giving me a chance to visit this place.

Vegetarian
The place looks modern than I have expected. The place was neatly furnished with round tables and since it is on top of a hill, its rather airy.

Interior and Shop Front
Besides having Mala Pot, there are other varieties of food available like claypot rice and steam boat.

Vegetarian Menu
It was my first time having vegetarian Mala, the items displayed may seems ordinary but overall, the Mala Pot depends on the spicy blend we had.

Mala Selection
Unlike for Yong Tou Foo, for Mala, everything goes by weight. The heavier it gets, the more you have to pay for it. Selection here includes mushroom, black fungus, Tofu, Brocolli , Cauliflower, Button Mushroom, Mock Meat Balls, Crab Meat and others.

Selection of Mala
Interior was pretty simple and plain, without fanciful decorations which kind of illustrate the nature environment.

Simple and Nice
There are a plenty of seating to choose, from inside the shop, to dinning on the wooden planks and the concrete. It was kind of laid back to dine in "nature".

Garden Feel
I'm not very use to dining on top of wooden planks as it is kind of disturbing when someone walks pass with all the squeaking noises produced by the planks. Luckily the place was not too crowded on a week day and there was not much customers sitting closer to our tables.

Dining Area
Before having the spicy food, we had prepared ourselves with some icy cooling drinks.

Wheat Grass & Lime Juice
Finally our Mala Xiang Guo is ready to served with rice. There is a choice of white or brown rice and the spicy level. Chilli, together with roasted peanuts, pepper corns and coriander enhance the taste. However if you are talking about numbness in the dish, I would say its still within our capacity.

Mala
The healthier choice of having brown rice. Luckily it was well cooked and hardness was medium without being too grainy.

Brown Rice
Having the fried mushroom as sides was in fact a very good choice. The batter coated over the mushroom was thin and crispy and the bite into the soft mushroom was heavenly. The taste of these were enhanced by the paprika powder.  Addictive!

Fried Mushroom
With the friendly service and variety of food, it is most likely I will be back again for other kinds of vegetarian selection.

Cai Shu Guo Zhi

While searching for West Side Kway Chap, we came across this stall located in Teck Whye and decided to try it out. On a Sunday, the Coffeeshop is bustling and filled with families and tables enjoying their typical Singaporean style of breakfast. With the rainy weather the amount of seats available had been cut down too as many of them who were marketing nearby had been bounded by the sudden downpour of rain. Nevertheless we were quick to grab a sharing table and targeted on Cai Shu Guo Zhi.

Cai Shu Guo Zhi Shop Front
Price for 1 pax, 2 pax and 3 pax is all indicated on the signboard. Waiting time was not that bad and quick to serve.

Set for 2 - $8.50
Looks like the pork belly is missing out from this plate! Nevertheless we have the usual ingredients like braised egg, intestines, taupork and skins all generously served on the plate.

Kway Chap
Soup of Kway was not over oily, it was comfort comforting especially on a rainy day. Together with the clean handling of inards by Cai Shu Guo Zhi and its tangy chilli sauce, it makes a very good breakfast. You wont even get to taste a bitter grime as the pig intestines were thoroughly cleaned.

Kway
Overall, it is pocket friendly and I don't mind coming back here again.

Jin Bao Claypot Bak Kut Teh. Claypot Chicken Rice 金寶砂煲肉骨茶.砂煲雞飯

While in Teck Whye for dinner, we had chanced upon Jin Bao Claypot Bak Kut Teh. This stall was kind of popular among the crowd in Teck Whye Coffeeshop. Staff on duty were dressed in yellow top, a uniform to identify themselves from the stall.

Jin Bao Claypot Bak Kut Teh

The claypot of Bak Kut Teh was rather standard without too much taste of herb. Instead I find the taste was rather similar to those premix that we can easily get off from the shelves. Color of the "Teh" was in between the clear and the black version, opaque perhaps. Besides the "Bak Kut" (Meat and ribs), slices of button mushrooms were included and cut spring onions garnishing were sprinkled among them.

Claypot Bak Kut Teh - $5.80

Meat was tender, easily detached from the bone and had a slightly infused taste from the Bak Kut Teh. However, I'm someone who prefer a stronger sense of such taste.

Meat

Overall, I would say that the claypot BKT was quite decent and if you have not much expectation other than just to fill one's stomach, this should be enough.

Ai Mian Zi

I cant help smiling when it comes to reading of the signboard. In relation to its business industry and the food they are selling, the name would suggest the love for noodles but if you are reading it in a fun manner, the name will give another meaning saying that one is generally concern and sensitive about their reputation.

The nature business of Ai Mian Zi is associated with the local noodle dishes such as laksa, fishabll noodles and minced meat noodle, a common stall that you will find almost everywhere in most coffee shops in Singapore.

Ai Mian Zi
Minced pork noodle was average, a simple combination of braised mushrooms, meatballs, minced pork, liver and lean meat. With chilli base option to go with my Mee Pok dry, I find that they were quite salty. On the other hand the mee pok tasted a bit on the harder side.
Minced Pork Noodle - $3

While my dining partner had another version of their noodles in lean meat only. Though the meat was cooked well, the noodles were dry as well and fell below expectation.

Minced meat noodle - $4 (big)

Given a choice over my meals, I will choose to explore other food stalls in the coffeeshop. However, if there aren't any much choice for me, I will still have Ai Mian Zi if I want to fill my stomach only.
