Chin Sin Huat Eating House

On a rainy day, we found ourselves revisiting Chin Sin Huan Eating House for its comforting pau and the shelter it provided from the wet weather. Last time, we indulged in their Tanjong Rhu Prawn Noodles, but this time, we opted for some snacks while we waited.

After being slightly drenched in the rain, a traditional cup of tea and coffee was just what we needed to perk up our mood. The steaming hot drinks were the perfect comfort, warming us up and lifting our spirits as we waited.

Kopi & Teh C

The Siew Mai was quite enjoyable, manageable in flavor, with a nice balance of taste and texture. It was a simple yet satisfying bite to complement our meal.

We also tried a selection of small buns: the Char Siew Pau, Lian Rong Pau, and Small Meat Pau. Each one had its own unique flavour, with the fillings offering a nice balance of savoury and sweet. They were the perfect bite-sized treats to accompany our meal.

Despite the delicious buns and snacks, I was still feeling hungry. The glutton in me couldn’t resist, so I opted for some extra carbs in the form of Fan Choy. It was just what I needed to satisfy my hunger and round off the meal.

Anyone who loves snacks like these has likely heard of Chin Sin Huan. This traditional brand has stood the test of time, and revisiting it feels inevitable. The classic flavours of these traditional Chinese snacks are a heartwarming reminder of my younger days — a nostalgic treat that keeps drawing me back.

BlackGoat

As we looked around in Jalan Batu Market & Food Center for dinner, the plates of Western food on the diner's table caught my attention. I spotted Blackgoat as it was packed with long snaky queues compared to other stalls.

Every burger set comes with fries. We ordered the Fried Chicken Burger with Chipotle Sauce. The buns were fragrant with buttery hints and soft, sandwiching the slab of crispy fried chicken with creamy chipotle sauce and some shredded cabbages.

Fried Chicken Burger - $14

The New Zealand Grassfed Sirloin looked interesting. It was topped with fried garlic and nori and served with Korean BBQ sauce. The beef was succulent and decent.

New Zealand Grassfed Sirloin (190g), Korean BBQ, Fried Garlic, Nori - $15.50

All in all, it was a good experience new kind of food being introduced into the hawker centre and also supporting the young hawkers.

Feng Ji Kway Chap

We have been hearing about this famous Kway Chap Stall in Jalan Batu but never had the chance to visit as they usually get sold out in the morning. Be prepared to join the queue for as long as 30 minutes.

Stall of Feng Ji Kway Chap

The set of Kway Chap costs $2.50 and is probably the cheapest in the market now. The stall is run by a husband and wife team where the husband prepares and cooks the items while the wife takes customers' orders.

Kway Chap Set - $2.50

The ingredients on the plate include braised egg, pork, Tau Pok, pork belly and intestine.

Kway Chap Ingredients from the Set

The big intestine was well braised and well cleaned without any gamey taste. Pairing these ingredients with the bowl of luscious and smooth Kway in the braised gravy. Bowl of Kway Chap was decent but definitely not the best I had.

Big Intestine - $2.50

Patience is required if you are joining the queue. Overall Feng Ji Kway Chap tasted above standard and the price is relatively on the friendlier side. I won't mind having them again if I do not have to wait for a long time.

Ze Ji Fishball Noodles

Most of you should know that I am never a fishball noodles fan but recently I discovered this hidden gem in the old school coffee shop. The arrangement and orientation of the stalls in the coffee shop totally remind me of Malaysia and the old school tiles on the flooring, it gives a nostalgic feel of the past.

Stall of Ze Ji Fishball Noodles

Ze Ji is housed in Choon Guan Coffeeshop and every day without fail, their fans will diligently queue up in front of the stall to enjoy the bowls of traditional fishballs noodle. I had my favourite Bee Tai Mak mixed with Chilli as well as Tomato Ketchup. The Noodles were tasty and topped with minced meat, beansprouts as well as some fresh spring onions.

Bee Tai Mak Dry - $4.50 (Medium)

While with the bowl of yellow noodles, it was skilfully cooked and the texture of the noodle was right.

Noodles Dry - $5.50 (Big)

Besides the noodle, what impressed me more was the bowl of tasty soup that was filled with lean meat, fishballs, fish dumpling and fishcakes.

How Many Kinds Can you Spot?

Ingredients of Soup

Fishballs were said to be made by the stall owners fresh daily and they wake up early in the morning daily to fry the fish cakes. With the quality and taste, even though I'm not a fan of fishball Noodles, I would say that I'm still pretty hooked on traditional dishes like this. Needless to say, I do not mind making a return trip here.
