Eventasty一碗田 Noodle Bar

Eventasty Noodle Bar is located at the quiet corner of Funan Digital Mall. The indoor seating are within Funan Digital Mall, air-conditioned while the outdoor seating was on the corridor walkway of Funan Digital Mall.

Eventasty Noodle Bar

The side dish is good with mild spiciness. It is something good to munch on if you are a fan of Century egg.

Tofu with Century Egg 金典皮蛋豆腐- $3

Those who have been going around for Hotpot will understand that Tomato Soup base has gradually gained popularity over the years. Eventasty's tomato soup was put to simmer for about 6 hours and it's considered unique on its own in Singapore. The beef was well braised and tender.

Tomato Soup with Braised Beef Noodle 金典番茄牛肉面 - $12.90

Needless to say, the Tomato broth was amazingly great. La Mian texture was springy and chewy. Besides having braised beef in tomato soup, there are peas and corn kernels too.

Braised Beef

The use of Goji Berries in Pork Bone Soup had enhanced its sweetness. Pieces of Pork were soft and tender. La Mian texture was similar to the tomato soup with some bounciness in them.

Quality and standard of food is there. One good note is that they pride themselves with that No MSG was used

Da Shi Jia Big Prawn Mee 大食家大大大虾面

When I find the environment and food are good, I will make a return. This is a return visit in a short span of time and this time around I had also brought them a new customer.

We opted for the big prawn noodle out of the 4 given sizes and chose the preferred type of noodle.

Big Prawn Noodle - $11.80

Prawns are cut into halves and this makes it easier for us to deshell them.

Big Prawns

Did not take notice the other time but the ingredients in the bowl are not just fish cake and prawns. They do have a small minced meat patty in the bowl of prawn mee.

Minced Meat Patty

While both drinks tasted good with Sour Plum, my vote still goes to the refreshing Green Apple Drink with Sour Plum.

Lime Juice with Sour Plum & Green Apple with Sour Plum - $3.80 Each

Da Shi Jia Big Prawn Mee is located in one of the shophouses along Killiney Road. With its embossed and big Chinese characters signboard that tells everyone that they are doing "big big big" prawn noodles.

Da Shi Jia Big Prawn Mee

Da Shi Jia Big Prawn Mee was founded by Seth, the son of the Big Eater Seafood Restaurant Group (Zi Char Chain). This restaurant is listed under the Michelin Bib.

The Interior is brightly lited with traditional Chinese ornaments hanging down from the ceiling. It kind of gives a modernly furnished feeling but still retains the traditional vibes with wooden furnishing and oriental tiles, not forgetting the big hanging frame hanging on the left wall right after entering the restaurant featuring the Eight Immortals crossing the sea.

We ordered the set meal for 2 pax and it comes with 2 Mains, 2 Sides and 2 Drinks at $46.80.

Mains

Out of curiosity, I chose to try on the Wok-Fried Big Prawn Bee Hoon. The plate of Big Prawn White Bee Hoon was yummy. Coupled with a generous amount of pork lard which elevates the dish's fragrance together with the chopped onions and garlic.

If the dish is ordered on ala carte basis, here's the pricing, $16.90 for Big Big Prawn (大大虾) & $19.80 for Big Big Big Prawn (大大大虾). The name of the prawn mee sounds playful, isn't it?

The first mouthful was surprisingly delightful -  A burst of Wok Hei Flavours in my mouth and the stock is totally awesome with umami flavours. It was thick but it does not bring out the heady prawn head taste which is what I prefer. It won't go wrong ordering this.

Bee Hoon

Ingredients include celery stalks, pork slices, fisk cake slices, onions and big prawns that were halved. The dish also comes along with a bowl of flavourful prawn soup. These ingredients were complemented by the smoky flavours from the Bee Hoon.

So Yummy!

The traditional prawn noodle on the other hand was doing alright without overpowering broth. It might not be the best one among the popular traditional prawn noodles but it is better than the average one.

Ala Carrte: $ 6.80 / 11.80 / 15.80 / 18.80 (Depending on size of prawns chosen)

2 Sides

There are a variety of side dishes to order apart from Salted Egg Chicken, there are Beancurd Skin Prawn Roll, Fried Fish Cake Crispy Spicy Winglets and Vegetables of the day.

Ala Carte: $6.80

Salted Egg Chicken 咸蛋鸡丁

Their Handmade Hae Zou is a side dish that is worth ordering. The deeply fried prawn fritters are delicious and traditionally complemented by the sweet sauce given.

Ala Carte: $6.80 / 9.80

2 Drinks

I'm not a fan of green apple but this drink had given me an addiction. The natural sourness from the green apple had struck a good balance with the Sour Plum Powder. It tasted sweet and refreshing after all.

Ala Carte: $3.80 / Glass

Fresh Green Apple Juice with Sour Plum 苹果酸梅水

Will I come back again? Though I am not a big fan of Big Prawn Noodles, I will still make a return as their Wok-Fried Big Prawn White Bee Hoon left me a good impression. At the same time, I will not mind bringing my friends/family who is in the search of prawn noodles.

Great Eater

Great Eater is one of the reasonably priced Cze Char places to go in Jurong if you want to enjoy a good consistency of crab dishes. Previously known as Big Eater, they are known for serving a tantalizing collection of dishes suitable for large groups and family gatherings.

Starting our meal with the meat dishes, we decided to order the small portion of pork ribs to the usual Gu Ro Yok (Sweet & Sour Pork). These ribs came in slab serving and were soft and coated evenly with soury and sweet sauce too.

Pork Ribs - $10
It seems like the dishes we ordered have a kind of similarity and that is the gravy is gluey. The Bai-Ling mushroom was decked up by the bright green stewed broccoli and some Tau pok.

Stewed Broccoli with Bai-Ling Mushroom - $12
Surprisingly the clay pot Sea cucumber as tasty and tasted above average. Ingredients include assortments of mushrooms, sweet pea, carrot, and red pepper with sweet not too starchy gravy, a good dish to go with the plates of white rice.

Claypot Sea Cucumber - $25
Consistency of chili crab dishes never fails us for every trip that we visit. Although we paid $94 for the crab that was charged at a seasonal price per Kilogram for 3 pax, the quality of crab defines the price that we paid which is reasonable.

Chili Crab - Seasaonal price / KG
Crab is of quality selected with fresh plump succulent meat unlike some of the Cze Char places we go. The gravy was a tad spicy, generously filled with egg and was not too starchy or watery.

The Pincer of the Crab
To enjoy the Chili Crab dish to the fullest, we have ordered a plate of 12 Mantous (Buns) that was well fried to golden brown. These minis buns were pillowy soft inside and make a good pairing while dipping them into the luscious Chili Crab gravy.

Man Tou - $6 (12 pcs)
Afterall, Great Eater was our kind of place to visit when it comes to eating crab in the West side of Singapore. Not to mention that their ordering is efficient and fuss-free with a group of well-trained servers taking down as well as serving our orders. I will recommend anyone to Great Eater if they are looking for Chili Crab.

Chang Xian XO Seafood (Try Fresh XO Seafood)

By the look of "La La Bee Hoon" Sign board that is located in the food court of Sultan Plaza, one may feel that it's just another ordinary stall. As its not a place that we will pass by, we made a trip down purposely to the place and check out this popular KL Noodle.

Stall with TV advertisement
The dish was executed differently with cooking wine, Hua Diao. Seafood soup was packed full of the taste if you are a fan of it. Having paid $6.90, I think it's pretty worthwhile for the ingredients that were generously filled in the bowl. Lala, prawns, cuttlefish, vegetables and spring onions were spotted in the bowl.

Hua Diao Seafood Bee Hoon Soup 花雕海鲜米粉汤 - $6.90
Bee Hoon is unique too which is imported from Malaysia. The texture is springy and close to "Dong Fen" aka vermicelli.

Bee Hoon
This dish would probably appeal to salted egg lovers and since such trend still have not lost its shine. Luckily, the gravy was not thick and gluey type and instead its more watery. It was made from crumbled salted egg. Taste was robust and satisfying. Worth trying if you are a salted egg lover.

Salted Egg Seafood Bee Hoon 咸蛋海鲜米粉- $8.90

Yummy!
Given the chance, I will like to revisit and try out the braised seafood Mee Sua. I see that these Mee Sua is of a different texture too.

The Curry Wok [Media Tasting]

The Curry wok has been serving tasty home made food for over 15 years. It is a family run restaurant which was passed down from Cat's Mother-In-Law. They started the place previously in Tanglin Road with whole family getting involved in preparing the signature dishes for guests. Cat is the current owner of The Curry Wok and is running this place with her hubby.

The Curry Wok
They have been recognized as "'Bukit Timah's Best Culinary" by 8 days. Their Business name sounds spicy and often people mislead that they are only selling spicy dishes but in fact The Curry Wok do have non spicy dishes too.

Menu Dishes

Set Menu
Thanks to the owners who diligently visited the market. These prawns were fresh, deliciously whipped up from the kitchen with chilli, lady's fingers and and onions.

Chilli Prawn - $13
Sambal Sotong cooking style is pretty similar to Chili prawn's ingredients just that the difference of the chilli as well as the seafood used. Succulent Sotong rings was smartly paired with the addictive Sambal.

Sambal Sotong - $13
A reminisce of home made goodness! Crispy deep fried Ngo Hiang presented in large strips of a combination of minced pork and prawn, accompanied by some Achar. Dab a piece of it into the given sweet sauce and enjoy a its juiciness. Recommended!

Home-made Ngo Hiang - $11
The color and presentation of Beef Rendang was liven up by the used of corinander and banana leaf against the orange brown gravy meat. Great that the they came in bite size portions and tender. Apart from that, Rendang gravy used was sufficient, adequately covering each piece of beef.

Beef Rendang - $13
One of the Nonya Classics, Chap Chye, I cannot do without everytime when I am in a Peranakan Restaurant. It was well executed with ingredients such as cabbage, bean curd skin, black fungus, mushroom, carrot and cellophane aka "Tang Hoon". Taste was inviting and was not too oily and salty. Even having without pairing is white rice is alright for us.

Nonya Chap Chye - $10
Brinjal & Ladies Finger teamed up well over here. You get the spongy texture from Brinjal as well as the crunchiness from the Ladies fingers with some fiery kick from the Sambal Chilli.

Sambal Brinjal & Ladies fingers - $10
If you love Century Egg and Tofu, you might want to order this simple side dish. The wobbly Tofu comes in a whole block, topped with slices of Century Egg and generously covered by fried shallots and corriander. It feels refreshing slurpping down the smooth and silky Tofu.

Century Egg Tofu - $10
Here are some of our ordered beverages to pair with our dishes.

Majestic Bay

Bringing our Guest to Garden By the Bay was planned and so was the dinner. I have never heard of Majestic Bay until it was brought up by my colleague who frequent the place. It is located in Gardens By The Bay, below Flower Dome and opposite the entrance of Cloud Forest.

Majestic Bay
Soothing wood tones and tastefully chosen crockery and linens create a homey, welcoming vibe among the Gardens. With transparent glass panels overlooking to the path where people are strolling, cycling or even jogging in the evenings did boosts one's energy in one way of another seeing lively activities around.

Warmly welcome by fish tanks of live seafood while we make our way into the restaurants to our seats. For those who are having live seafood, get to choose their catch of the day from the tank.

Menu came in hard copy as well as digital format. I thought it was good to have dishes illustrated in the electronic device as the hard copy menu has no pictures for someone like our guest who was not so familiar with Chinese Cuisine.

Digital Menu

Xiang Pian (Jasmine) Pot of Tea - $3 per head
Meal started interestingly with the Trio Prawns Platter, with a long plate divided into 3 section with Salad Dressing, Lemon Butter Milk Dressing and Wasabi Dressing respectively.

Trio Prawns Platter (12 pieces) - $38
Salad Dressing was lightly coated on the battered prawn with basil seeds and little mango cubes.

Salad Dressing

While prawns of the middle portion has cute little slices of turnip as garnishing.

Lemon Butter
Wasabi flavored prawns on the other hand was sweet without overpowering its taste, basil seeds and caviar were included too.

Wasabi Flavoured
Having double boiled soup served in coconut is definitely a new addition to my dictionary. Assorted seafood like prawns, scallop, fish maw were included with mushrooms and white fungus.

Double Boiled Assorted Seafood Soup in Whole Young Coconut - $16
Soup was light and mostly filled of fish maw taste but not too overpowering.

Close up
Undeniably the best Espresso Pork Ribs I had ever eaten. I'm not a coffee person but this boneless and lean pork ribs were wholly aromatic and light on the palate. Simply love its evenly coated Expresso Coffee Sauce over the tender ribs.

Pork Ribs in Espresso Coffee Sauce - $24
Sauteed asparagus was well stirred fried with fried garlic, carrots as well as mushrooms. Asparagus were totally crunchy and "sold out" on our table very soon after it was served.

Sauteed asparagus and wild mushroom with garlic - $24

Serving brought me a surprise as it was quite small. However, the miniatures abalone had stolen the scene. It was topped together with chopped carrot cubes as well as spring onions on the softened Mee Sua.Unfortunately, the taste of the broth came with a strong hint of seafood smell, more towards the crustaceans taste and wasn't too pleasing to everyone of us on the table, thus we ended up wasting abit of the food.

Stewed Mee Sua with Baby Abalone - $28

Ending my meal with a cooling bowl of double boiled Chinese Pear snow Fungus and peach gum to soothe my going-to-sore throat. It really aids in soothing the system down.

Double Boiled Chinese Pear with Snow Fungus and peach gum (hot/cold) - $6

While the Guest chose the fresh mango puree with chendol coconut strips and was too, happy about such selection.

Fresh Mango Puree with Chendol Strips - $6

Servings seemed petite initially yet keep our groaning empty stomachs full at end of everything. Overall Majestic Bay reminds me of some Chinese Fine Dining. Besides its strategic location in Gardens By the Bay, I would say it was a good recommendation to bring a guest there as the ambiance was quiet with attentive services from the working team. Totally suitable for causual business meet ups. After all my guest from aboard seemed to be satisfied with this dinner.
