De Soon

We are slowly exploring into the industrial canteens for food that have not been discovered by me. By word of mouth, we were introduced to De Soon in Buroh Soon under the Coffeeshop of Kim San Leng.

Stall of De Soon

We ordered the Braised Pork Trotter and was surprised by the serving portion.

Braised Pork Trotter 卤猪脚 - $5.50

Braised Meat was braised till tender and disintegrated quickly from the Bone. Love its good ratio of fats and meat without getting too greasy. The gelatinous portion from the pork trotter is addictive too.

Braised Gravy for your rice?

We ordered their Herbal Bak Kut Teh and 3 big ribs were served. Considering the price that we are paying, it's value for money. The herbal soup was not too strong but definitely passed its grades.

Herbal Bak Kut Teh 药材肉骨茶 - $5.50

The Mixed Pig Organ Soup was surprisingly good. The soup was appetizing with Chinese celery, preserved vegetables and a generous amount of ingredients like belly, liver and meatballs.

Since there are two stalls, we will be back for other dishes.

Sing Yi Seafood Garden

Driving into the industrial estate at night gave me another view of the world in Pioneer. Everywhere were dim and under the dim street lights, it gave me the kind of uneasiness even though I was not alone. Perhaps because of the environment where many hostels were around and none of them seems local which made the surrounding so different from the area I always think it ought to be. Culture in there was not the usual stuff we see and feel daily, for example I would never expect someone flying on the concrete pavement at night looking at his smart phone.

I have never been to Pioneer Industrial again after since my last job. It was really a drastic change and I have never knew there were eateries, conveniences stalls and hardware stalls all clustered in that area within walking distance from the dormitories.

With a few similar coffee shops around, Kim San Leng Coffeeshop seemed to have take over the eateries territories in the Vicinity.

Kim San Leng

Cze Char Hokkien Mee is those flat yellow noodles that comes in braised gluey gravy with ingredients such as lean pork, prawns, fishcakes and vegetables. Taste was rather standard and with the use of fried pork lard, noodle was fragrant. Not only that, the fried dumplings skin made the dish rather a memorable one at its first impression. On a side note, medium portion was good enough for two.

Hokkien Mee - $8.50 (Medium)
Supposingly to be hotplate marmite chicken but the hoteplate was there more for its name than to enhance its taste. There were no sizzling scene and banana leaf was placed at its base. Marmite Chicken tasted good with sweetened pineapple cubes, dried chilli and sesame seeds clinging on to its sticky chicken pieces. The only disappointment in the dish was that there were more bones than meat expected.

Marmite Chicken - $12 (Small)
While we expected soup to be served first, it had gone the reverse, becoming the last. However, out of 3 dishes ordered, I would vote for the soup. It was tasty not only with salted dvegetables but also prune which kind of remind me that they shared similar ingredients to one of the steamed fish dishes. Delighting, added with carrots, fried onions oil to enhance its taste, at the same time slices of cut gingers were included to spark a refreshing taste among the ingredients used.

Salted Vegetables & Tofu Soup - $5 (Small)

The place is suitable for families meals and best for gatherings too, since it is located in industrial park, it might not be easily accessible but definitely a place to go as a group. I would definitely be back for meals.

Chuan Le Xiang Lok Lok - Satay Celup

Out in the industrial Estate of Neythal Road, somewhere around in Pioneer Road you will get to come across a Canteen with the name of MEP. If not for the news feeds on my social media page, I will never know such place exist.

Facade of the Canteen may look ordinary, just like other Canteen from the industrial estate. For the typical canteen situated in such estate, most of the stall would have been closed during the evening but Chuan Le Xiang Lok Lok business hours was their reversal - evening to midnight.

MEP Canteen

Having seen and tasted Satay Celup only in Malacca, I'm pretty excited about Chuan le Xiang as I find that its quite unique to have Satay Celup in Singapore.

Dining Environment
The Yuan Yang Pot Comes with 3 segments but 2 of them have similar broth in it which is the home made chicken soup while the other was filled with Satay Sauce. Soup was fragrant added with coriander, onions and chopped chicken meat can be found.

I dont remember having chicken soup or Yuan Yang in Malacca however one thing that left me a deep impression is their satay sauce. In Malacca, they will offer two type of satay sauce, new from the sealed packet or reused sauce left over by the other diners BUT I dont think "reused satay sauce offer" is going to happen here in Singapore. :)

Upon serving the pot, one of the assistants explained to us on the procedures in ordering as this was the first visit. He was friendly and polite.

Yuan Yang Pot - $10
There were a range of selections to choose from for Lok Lok. Head towards the row of chillers located in front of the stall and pick what you want to eat.

$1 per Stick
Every stick costs $1, including seafood & meat.

Selection
He mentioned that there are 2 ways to enjoy the meal is by dipped those stick into the preferred sauce or if we would like to have additional flavours. We can dip the sticks into the chicken soup.

Selected Item
When its ready, dip them into the satay sauce to give it a satay coating on the items. The satay sauce is mild and not spicy at all. I enjoyed dipping them into the sauce as I like the grated peanuts bite in between bites of the Lok Lok.

Dipping Toufu into the Satay Sauce

For those who want to fill up their stomach can order bowls of white rice or even Bee Hoon. Bee Hoon was plain with only shredded vegetables as its main ingredient but was quite tasty with hints of  peppery taste.

Bee Hoon - $1 per plate

Do you want to add some fiery kick to your Lok Lok, if so do dab your food on their special home made chilli sauce! It's super hot on my tongue! Do note that drinks (soft drinks and beer) are available from them too.

Special Home Made Chilli
In summary, its quite a good experience in Chuan Le Xiang as it recalled those fun days in Malacca. For those who have not been to Malaysia for Lok Lok or Satay Celup, Chuan Le Xiang may give you that kind of experience. What's more the place was spacious and good place for family /group gathering.

Newton Meng Kee Prawn Mee

Lunch times are made interesting visiting new places apart from the routine Hawker Centre which we were ferried too weekly by the company bus.

Thanks to our kind colleague who will date us once in a while for lunch outing and just this afternoon, we had our lunch here in Jurong Logistics Hub.

Jurong Logistics Hub Food Junction

Although there were many stalls in the Food Court, our trip there was solely for its Prawn Noodle everytime without fail. Newton Meng Kee Prawn Noodle is quite reputable and has a number of franchise in Singapore but their standards do varies.

Lunch Crowd
Meng Kee offered a variety of Prawns Noodles for customers to choose from, e.g, pig tail, pork ribs, intestines but we had chosen the standard bowl of Bee Hoon Prawn soup for this trip. One will end up
sipping on its aromatic broth accompanied by shallot oil, not forgetting that slices of fishcakes and lean meat included. The soup contains a strong and rich robust prawn taste. Prawn Noodle comes in both dry and soup version which I find are equally yummy! A Die Die Must Try!
