Venchi

Sometimes it's good to indulge and splurge a little for ice cream! The dense and creaminess from the Gelato gives good pleasure to the tongue. Windows shopping in MBS (Marina Bay Sands) ended me up with a cone on my hand. Pistachio flavour was dull green in colour and savoury rich.

Pistachio

Well, whenever I am at Takashimaya I have an issue taking my eyes away from the flavours of ice cream at Venchi. My eyes will automatically search for Stracciatella and you can say that it's my all-time favourite. Having 2 scoops regular at $10, I get to choose another flavour. I took the Hazelnut as my second choice, it does have a subtle fragrant of Hazelnut with nutty texture among the creaminess but still could not beat my favourite Stracciatella.

Angus House

I have been walking pass Angus House umpteenth times but never has the chance to step in until just this year. It was a celebration meal for a birthday and finally we had the chance to explore Angus House. Angus House is quite easy to locate as she is on the 4th Level of Takashimaya, next to the Toys / Children Department .

Angus House
I quite like this open concept kitchen part of the restaurant whereby we were able to take a click preview of the chef busying in the kitchen.

Kitchen
Internally is well lited, under the spacious and romantic lights, environment makes it cozy and relaxing. With attentive servers around, I would say that their service is prompt and smiley.

Interior
It is perfect place for a first date. Also, it is recommended to make reservation and secure a seat.
On the Table
We were there for steak but to make it a meal with appetizer, soup, salad, bread and dessert, we topped up $15 each and find it quite worthy.

Bread & Butter
Appetizer was a big piece of salmon with flaky bread stick and sweet sauce.

Appetizer
Reminds of my Mos Burger Style of Salad and immediately I know they are common as its Japanese! Greens was crunchy with cherry tomato, Japanese cucumber, corn kernels, cabbages and dressed with roasted sesame sauce.

Salad
We had the escargot as our sides. Well baked with herbs and butter, served sizzling hot. I'm not really a fan of these shells but I think the style of preparation were rather fragrant.

Escargot - $18
You can still hear the sizzling and bubbling effect of butter together with escargot when they serve to the table.

Close up of Escargot
Environment was quite cold and just right with a warm bowl of calm chowder.

Calm Chowder

Ingredients in Calm Chowder
This is not the usual Western Style Steak I had. In case you are not aware, Angus House is mainly serving Japanese Style Beef Steak as well as pasta and the type of serving may not be what you have on mind if you are thinking along Morton's Style.

The 200g Sirloin Steak comes in a sizzling hot plate direct from the kitchen in Medium-Well doneness as requested. A piece of savoury herb butter and slice of lemon was placed on the steak, as the heat rises, the butter melts accordingly. Steak was definitely soft and texture was friendly with the knife.

Sirloin Steak 200g - $60
While the man had a bigger portion of 300g Steak from the Rib Eye at Medium doneness. Similarly, the steak was juicy and tender just like I had my Sirloin.

Rib Eye Steak 300g - $78
Desserts have option of Cheese Cake or Tiramisu. Since we are having 2 sets, we opted for both and ended our dinner with sweet endings. Cheese cake came with a very moist biscuit base and was light in taste, not too cloying. I love the Cereal and the dash of raspberry sauce and cream by the side.d

Cheese Cake
Tiramisu was light and tasty coupled with honey melon, dragonfruit, mint leaf and strawberry. It was real good and in fact I dont mind having another piece if they do offer.

Tiramisu
At least I can strike off the To Visit / To Eat from my list after visiting Angus House. The quality of food and service are commendable. I won't hesitate to recommend my friends here if they want to try Japanese Style Beef.

Tai Cheong Bakery

You get to find out the famous Tai Cheong Bakery in Singapore without flying all the way into Hong Kong. Just visit the basement of Takashimaya shopping centre along the eateries and you will get to definitely get lured by the baking aroma from the ovens!

Tai Cheong Bakery
Ever since this permanent outlet has been announced, everytime whenever i passed by and without failed there are Tai Cheong Bakery's die hard fans queuing up despite of the waiting time. With limited ovens, the demand is always more than the supply on the spot, thus patrons have to wait for tarts to be baked. They looked absolutely different from the conventional ones we had. The fillings portion were glossy and smooth.

Tray of Tarts Taken from the Oven
There is a minimum purchase of 4 tarts and these 4 tarts are being packed in a classic box. Before the box was closed, the staff showed us the tarts once before he closed the box.

Egg Tart - 4 for $7.50
The surface of the fillings were flawless and it was really fragrant, tempting me to eat it while its hot.
The crust was buttery and its fragrance give a reminiscent of Jenny's Cookies which is also from Hong Kong.

In a box of 4
Reading from the packets of fillings in plastic and trays of aluminum mould with dough, we realized how readily made egg tart is just that the baking time had its queue longer. I love about its filling as it was not cloying and tarts were perfectly baked .

How much is one tart?
$1.90 for a tart may be very expensive and moreover, it cant be purchased individually. Overall, it was good but it was not something to die for that I will want to go back to Takashimaya for their tarts.

Baikohken

I'm still remembering my first bowl of Japanese Ramen and also my first bowl of most expensive noodle in my life was from Baikohken at North Canal Road. During then I was still a schooling kid with limited pocket money but still wish to get a taste of the luscious, long simmered broth with noodles of great texture.

Baikohken
During that time, it was considered as one of the best bowl of Ramen in that area with huge Chashu.
Unfortunately, by the time when I started earning a living, the place was already closed down and my friend who had recommended Baikohken had also no idea where it was shifted to.

We chanced upon Baikohken during shopping for festive goods in Takashimaya and decided to rekindle some of my old memories.Baikohken is located at one corner of Takashimaya Food Hall and narrow aisle in between the tables.

Menu
The promotional topping was an excellent option to share between 2 pax as it consist of a main dish (Regular Ramen), topping and a side dish at $21

We had a regular of Shoyu Ramen (Soy Sauce) with 2 pieces of charshu, topped with additional bamboo shoots and spring onions. Portion was big with savoury stock preparing under the simmering heat for hours. Coupled with the yummy bamboo shoots, it gave the dish an additional flavour and texture. Charshu on the other hand was tender.

Shoyu Ramen (Regular)
Ramen
Charshu don was savoury with chopped Charshu combining well with mayonnaise and short grain rice. Happy.

Charshu Don
With so many Japanese Ramen stalls in the market these days, business are rather competitive. They used to be the better ones but nowadays with the variety of ramen availability in the shopping malls and food courts, I would say you can get better ones else where.
