Eco-Harmony Retail & Cafe

A visit to Eco-Harmony, Singapore's organic plant-based restaurant nestled under HDB blocks, offers more than just a meal—it’s a celebration of nature’s richness and a step towards a sustainable lifestyle. Founded in 2007, this café is a social enterprise, supporting Kampung Senang’s charity and education initiatives. Committed to quality, they craft every dish using high-quality organic ingredients at affordable prices, ensuring that healthy eating remains accessible to all.

We started off with their tempeh, and although I’m not usually a fan, this one took me by surprise. It was crispy, flavorful, and surprisingly addictive. I found myself reaching for more without even realizing it!

Tempeh 香煎天贝 - $8

Initially, I mistook the chicken chop for luncheon meat pieces based on its presentation. It was served alongside lettuce and a mixed fruit salad dressed in a creamy sauce, adding a refreshing contrast to the dish.

Black Pepper Plant-Based Chicken Chop 黑椒吉扒 - $9.90

The Yam Abacus looked promising, but my pet peeve was how they all clumped together into a sticky mass. Instead of distinct, chewy abacus beads, they stuck to one another, making it hard to pick up an individual piece. The texture leaned more towards a lump of starch rather than the bouncy, firm bite I was expecting.

Yam Abacus 算盘子 - $9

Every set meal comes with organic salad and daily soup, making it a wholesome choice. Since the Olive Fried Organic Noodle Set was a new addition to the menu, we had to give it a try. The noodles were generously tossed in olive oil, mixed with tau gua (beancurd) and cabbage, giving it a light yet fragrant touch. However, as a non-vegetarian, I found the flavors a bit too simple and lacking the depth I usually enjoy in a noodle dish.

Olive Fried Organic Noodle Set (Dry) 香拌有机橄榄面 - $9.90

The Sesame Sauce with Organic Noodle Set had a comforting, home-cooked feel, featuring fresh greens, carrots, and mushrooms. The rich sesame sauce was generously drizzled over the noodles, adding a nutty aroma and creaminess. While the ingredients were simple, the sauce brought everything together, making it a hearty and wholesome dish.

Sesame Sauce with Organic Noodle Set (Dry) 有机芝麻酱拌面 -  $9.90

The Toona Organic Fried Rice Set is a wholesome, plant-based dish packed with earthy flavors and vibrant ingredients. Infused with toona leaves, the rice carries a distinctive, aromatic taste, perfectly complemented by a mix of multigrain rice, crunchy vegetables, and light seasoning. Each bite delivers a nutrient-rich and satisfying experience, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a healthy yet flavorful meal.

Toona Organic Brown Rice Set 香椿拌有机糙米饭 - $9.90

The Dumplings with Organic Noodle Soup Set felt like a comforting, homemade meal, perhaps something I would whip up with instant noodles, fresh vegetables, and mushrooms at home. The simplicity of the dish, paired with the light yet flavorful broth, made it a hearty and familiar choice.

Dumplings with Organic Noodle Soup Set 有机水饺汤面 - $9.90

The Organic Vegetable Popiah Set stood out with its thick wrap and generously packed fillings. Unlike typical vegetarian popiah, this version featured tau gua cubes, vegetables, and more, giving it a unique texture.

Organic Vegetable Popiah Set 有机时蔬薄饼套餐 - $9.90

While the taste leaned towards the bland side, dipping it in their chilli or white sauce instantly elevated the flavors, adding an extra kick to each bite.

The soup intrigued me with its combination of beetroot, walnut, and cashew nut, a mix I don’t often come across. At first sip, it had a slightly raw taste, but after a few mouthfuls, I got used to it. The flavors gradually grew on me, leaving a light and clean aftertaste, making it quite a refreshing experience.

Soup

Last but not least, we decided to end our meal with their healthy desserts. Made with all-natural ingredients and minimal sweetness, they stayed true to the cafe’s wholesome approach. As we finished our meal, we could feel the lightness and cleanliness in our bodies—no heaviness, just a refreshing sense of well-being. I was even told that having a full meal here wouldn’t leave you with a food coma!

Almond Paste 杏仁糊, Black Rice Porridge 黑米粥, Multigrain Paste 谷物糊 - $5 Each

If you’re looking for a clean and nourishing meal, this place is definitely worth a try.

The fried chicken wings may appear dry on the outside with their crispy, golden-brown coating, but they surprise with juicy, tender meat inside. Each bite reveals the flavorful, moist chicken beneath the crunchy exterior, making for an irresistible combination of textures. Despite the crisp appearance, the wings retain their succulent juiciness, elevating the overall taste.

The spicy pork wontons had a deliciously tangy kick from the vinegar seasoning, which added a bright, sour note. This balanced perfectly with the rich, flavorful chili oil, making each bite incredibly appetizing. The combination of the spicy heat and sourness enhanced the savory pork filling, creating a satisfying and well-rounded dish.

You can’t go wrong with the basic Egg Fried Rice and Pork Cutlet. The fluffy rice was rich with eggy fragrance and impeccably seasoned, while the pork cutlet was tender and well-marinated, offering a perfect balance of flavours. Both elements complemented each other beautifully, making this a satisfying dish that hits all the right notes in terms of flavour and texture.

I tried their latest addition, the Olive Fried Rice topped with Shrimp, and it was delightful. The olive-fried rice was wonderfully fragrant, adding a unique depth of flavour that paired perfectly with the springy, succulent shrimp. The combination of the aromatic rice and fresh seafood created a satisfying and well-balanced dish.

Besides serving a variety of fried rice dishes, they also offer a tempting selection of noodles, including Tom Yum, Spicy, Mala, and Dried options. Whether you're in the mood for something tangy and sour like Tom Yum, fiery and bold like Spicy or Mala, or a simpler dry version, there’s something to suit every palate.

We opted for the Dry Noodle with Chicken Cutlet, and it was a delightful combination. The noodles were well-seasoned and fragrant, providing a flavorful base for the dish. The chicken cutlet had subtle hints of ginger marinade, adding an aromatic touch to the crispy, juicy meat. Overall, it was a well-executed and satisfying meal, with the noodles and chicken complementing each other perfectly.

Oysters were served in a plate of 6 with grilled Mentaiko. The presentation scores with its attractive colorful combinations of Orange Mentaiko, Yellow Lemon and green garnishing.

Grilled Mentaiko Oysters - $35 / 6 PCS

I’m amplifying the flavour of my oysters by squeezing some lemon juice over them. These plump and juicy oysters were fresh and went well with the swirls of grilled mentaiko.

Skewers By The Stick

We were in the mood for skewers and ordered the Three Musketeers that comprise of Brocolli, Shitake & Abalone Mushroom, Duo-Colour Squash). The taste was decent except that there was a tad too much salt on the brocolli.

On top of that, we ordered Isoyaki Abalone. It was juicy and yummy.

Three Musketeers + Isoyaki Abalone - $6 + $12

Mains

We ordered the Rib Eye Steak with medium doneness. Pairing our steak with brown sauce and a side as mashed potato. The meat was rich in flavours and tender with a pink center. Juicy is the word and the marbling meat add a depth to the flavours. The well prepared steak was topped with red peppercorns delivering a satisfying dining experience.

In addition, the provided red wine sauce elevates the dish, pushing up the level of savouriness in the dish. What an indulgence!

Pink Center

With the Rose Wine Lamb Shank as a recommendation on their Menu, I ordered this dish. The Lamb Shank was succulent and well soaked up in its Rose Wine Sauce beautifully topped with Salsa. It was a harmonious union of sweet rose wine with tender lamb meat.

Bone falling meat and fork tender lamb shank. The moisture and juiciness had been well retained while the meat undergone the braising process. The lamb had absorb the braising gravy well and yes to this dish!

The fish steamboat broth was not too bad but I still preferred having fried yam in it. It was tasty and was charcoal heated.

It takes a while for the broth to be bubbling and thereafter, we threw in the slices of fish accordingly.

It's quite interesting to see them serving BBQ Seafood like Big Prawns, Sotong, Stingrays and Seabass over the sizzling hot plate. The big prawns were succulent and topped with Sambal Belachan and raw onions.

Pork ribs and yam ring were yummy.

Asam's dish was appetizing and a good pairing to our plates of rice. Sotong was tender and rolled up in pretty cuts, immersing into the Asam dish with tomato, onions and lady's fingers.

One of their recommended vegetable dishes on the menu will be this Dried Scallop Kai Lan. I enjoyed the crunchy bites from the stalks of the Kai Lan added with the shredded fried driver scallop and vegetables. Yummy!

New on the menu, the Big prawns were generously coated in the savoury pumpkin sauce. They were plump and succulent. Besides having this latest flavour, they do offer Coconut Milk Cheese, Salted Egg, Cereal and Rice Wine Prawns too.

The naturally sweet taste of the Lala makes up a good broth. It was added with some bird-eye chilli, giving the soup an additional fiery kick. I like the way it was served over the fire as it helps in keeping the dish warm. If you prefer another cooking style for the Lala, you can opt to cook them with Ginger Onion.

Spicy Lala Soup 上汤啦啦 - $15 / $25

The Pork Trotter was well braised and served in earthen claypot. The presentation of the dish was livened up with the use of broccoli.

The Hometown  Prawnpaste Fried Chicken aka "Har Cheong Gai" looked faint in colour and was not attractive enough on the outside but as the saying goes, do not judge a book by its cover.
