Royal London Duck

Royal London Duck is another venture opened by Fei Siong Group after parterd its way from their debuted London Fat Duck's Singapore outpost at Scotts Square last year. Besides the main one in Mandarin Gallery, they have spreaded their wings into the neighbourhood malls and have more than just 1 restaurant now.

Excite your taste buds with some pieces of Royal London Duck. The Roasted duck has crispy skin and leans towards more of the thin version without fatty meat. It sits among a pool of the home made duck sauce that tasted quite subtle. And for real, dab the meat on the sweet plum sauce given for some delicious treats!

Delicious Duck
This is not your typical Char Siew. Not only was it well caramelized, it was well marinated too. It lends a sweet taste with lean meat and less fat seen. However the bad side was that a small quantity cost a bomb. Perhaps that's the most expensive Char Siew I ever hard.

Signature Honey BBQ Pork - $16.80
Like any Cantonese fare, you can get the typical bowls of Congee from the restaurant. I had the Pig Giblet Congee which consist of liver, intestine, stomach and minced meat balls. Texture of Congee is smooth and generally plain in taste. Add some Soya Sauce to enhance it.

Pig's Giblet Congee - $8.80
There was no option to have a combination of meat platter for us to order and thus we order a plate of Crispy Pork Rice to tried out all their roasted delicacies. Rice was plain and was shock that if you are ordering plain rice separately, it costs $2.50. Crispy Pork was served in big cubes size.

Overall, not very much of a WOW factor to me on their roasted delights. Perhaps if I were to revisit, I will like to try out their Dim Sum Items.

Encik Tan

Encik Tan which means "Uncle" Tan when translated from Malay language is another concept by Fei Siong Group. It's a place where you can find the usual Singaporean Food like Fried Carrot Cake, Wanton Noodle, Fish Soup, Laksa etc. Fred not, this food establishment has been prepared to serve our Muslim pals by having Halal Certification.

Turnover in Encik Tan at Westmall is pretty fast and the popular order among the diners will be none other than a plate of Hainanese Curry rice loaded with generous amount of black and curry sauce on top of the rice with braised vegetables and an egg.

Chicken Chop Hainanese Curry Rice Set
For Curry Rice, there are a few choices. You can enjoy the rice with fried chicken cutlet, drumstick or grilled sotong. You can also make your meal a set by adding another dollar, topping up with a drink like lime juice.

Chicken Chop Rice
The crispy deep fried Chicken Cutlet will be cut into smaller pieces.

Chicken Chop
Every serving comes in a heavy traditional flower plate, this makes us feel at home. The braised vegetables were very soft and sweet. If you are someone who enjoys Hainanese curry sauce covering up the entire plate of rice, I bet you will like this!

Hainanese Curry Rice Set with Grill Squid
Not to worry much about the spicy level as it is quite moderate. For those who prefer drumstick, this set is not as bad too. Overall the fried chicken was fragrant and recommendable. The skin of the drumstick is not only fried perfectly to an attractive color, the crispy texture will definitely makes you want more!

Soup Master Chinatown

The sweet flavours of Chinese pear and red apple had given an appetising taste to the pork rib soup together with chinese apricot seeds. The soup, for instance is apparently good for cough and lungs.

Apple & Apple Pork Ribs Soup
Beating the heat, I had the bowl of Watercress with pork ribs. Soup was no doubt sweet with tender pieces of pork ribs and these meat was cooked to soften that they fell off from the bone easily effortlessly.

Watercress with Pork Ribs

If you love watercress like I do, you will be most happy to see this greens in your bowl of soup, generously given.

Watercress

What I like about Lao Huo Tang is that patrons get to have different selections of rice besides the usual plain bowl of white rice. For this instance, I had the pumpkin rice and the pumpkins were sweet and tasty, a bonus to the bowl of rice!

There are many other kinds of soup available from the same stall without the use of MSG in their food. With their assurance of not having MSG in their food, I bet most healthy patrons would not mind having them.

Men Men Don Don

It was during one of the weekends that I decided to dine in the smallest eatery in Westmall when everywhere else were packed with people due to the nearing of festive seasons. As the name suggest, Men Men Don Don is selling Japanese Food mainly on "men" (noodles like ramen, udon and Soba) while Don when traslated from Japanese it means rice.

No doubt that there were limited seating in the shop, I manage to grab a table on my own but for the fear that the aircon water might drip anytime from above.

There were about 4 helpers in the small shops and happily chatting with each other. Service was very fast with their teamwork.

I ordered a bowl of Niku Udon with kitsune and seaweeds as part of it. Beef was sliced to smaller piceces thus looked curled up when it was in contact with the heat during cooking. The soup was very tasty and sweet.

llao llao Yoghurt [Closed]

Yes I'm addicted to the recent Yoghurt craze! Blame it to my frequent favourite Yoghurt stall for its price hike and deteriorating service!

Having tried llao llao Yoghurt in their Marina outlet, I had foreseen myself being a regular customer of llao llao since there are a few stalls popping up in the west area.

llao llao Yoghurt at Westmall
I quietly join the snaky queue and waited patiently for my turn. To my surprise they mentioned that there are no smoothies or sensations available, they only have yoghurt in tubs and sanum.

Tubs come in 3 different variation, small, medium and large. The small serving consists of 1 frozen yoghurt and 1 topping while the large and medium has 3 toppings. Tubs are their star product, like any yoghurt, it aids in digestion, boosting the immune system and strengthening the teeth.

Medium Tub - $5.90

With my selection of banana slices, dragon fruits and yummy cherry sauce added to the medium tub, it had given another taste to the plain milky yoghurt. Last but not least, llao llao Natural yoghurt is actually made of skimmed milk thus it might be a healthy snack or even as a meal for weight watchers.

Swensen

The lobster roll trend has finally hit the shore! And into Swensen "Rolling in the deep" menu.

Served with sides like mesclun salad and fries, the Loster Roll was toasted perfectly till pillow soft lending its butter fragrance, together with its shiny crust it was an unforgettable experience I had in Swensen so far. The lobster meat came in generous chunks making up one lobster and was succulent. It was completed with a final touch of honey lime. Yummy!

Boston Lobster Roll - $21.80

Lobster, yummy!
With breaded chicken added a rough texture to the juicy marinated chicken cutlet, drizzled with meuniere sauce, served with U.S fries and coleslaw. Simply love its portion (right thickness) and its crispiness yet not too greasy taste!

Breaded chicken - $15.60

No meal in swensen will ever be completed without having a dessert! With christmast around the corner, besides having new dishes like lobster, the ice cream menu has also been altered to the festive mood. Santa's favourite is make up of delicious chunks of christmas pudding and yummy raisin ice cream accompanied with strawberry toppings as well as sprinkle of sliced almonds.
