Seoul Noodle Shop

While South Korean cuisine often brings to mind crispy fried chicken and sizzling Korean barbecue, there's another side of Korean comfort food that deserves just as much attentio, hearty, soul-warming noodle soups. We recently visited Seoul Noodle Shop at Northpoint City, Yishun, where handcrafted noodles are paired with rich, slow-simmered broths for a comforting meal that's perfect any time of the day. From the chewy knife-cut noodles to the deeply flavourful soups, this is a spot worth checking out if you are craving an authentic taste of Korea beyond the usual favourites.

Pairing our food with refreshing Green Apple, Yuzu & Pineapple Ade made the meal even more enjoyable. Each sparkling drink was crisp, fruity, and wonderfully refreshing, making them the perfect companions to every bite.

Apart from the usual Kimchi, Seafood, and Potato Pancakes, we also tried the Morning Glory, Pancake. This unique combination featured fresh morning glory, juicy shrimp, and mixed vegetables bound together in a crispy Korean-style pancake. Lightly crisp on the outside and soft within, it was topped with toasted sesame seeds and paired with a savoury dipping sauce that complemented every bite.

Half Chicken Noodles - $18.50

The Half Chicken Noodles is one of the best choices on their knife cut noodle menu. Served with a generous half chicken, chewy handmade knife-cut noodles in a rich chicken broth, and topped with Korean chives, sliced leeks, and egg strips, it is both comforting and satisfying.

The chicken was wonderfully tender, while the broth was rich, flavourful, and perfect for slurping. Complete with rice, kimchi, pickled radish, and seasoned salt on the side, this is a hearty meal that's well worth ordering.

The Assorted Tofu Stew Set is a comforting bowl packed with silky soft tofu, prawns, clams, beef, and vegetables simmered in a rich, spicy Korean broth. Served bubbling hot, every spoonful is loaded with flavour, while the accompanying rice, kimchi, and side dishes complete the satisfying meal.

For our third set, we went with the Crispy Fried Korean Mackerel. The whole mackerel was freshly fried until golden brown with a crisp exterior while remaining moist and flaky inside. Served with steamed rice, kimchi, pickled radish, bean sprouts, rolled omelette, dipping sauce, and a comforting bowl of traditional Korean rice punch, it made for a simple yet satisfying Korean meal.

Nummun Thai Kitchen (Yishun)

We knew of Nummun a few years back and visited their branch in Thomson for the tasty taste food. Their Yishun outlet occupies a small shop under the HDB Block following the theme of their first location with a clean and simple interior, with steel tables, chairs and stools laid out neatly.

We started our Thai Cuisine with their staple beverages like the Thai Milk Tea and Lemongrass drink.

Thai Iced Milk Tea & Iced Lemongrass - $4 each

The steamed seabass with chilli & lime is always my favourite from the Thai Cuisine as we get to enjoy the freshness and tenderness of the fish. I love the sweet, spicy, garlicky and sourish soup that made up of garlic, chilli and lemon grass.

Steamed Seabass with Chilli & Lime - $26

A harmonious blend of flavours and texture from the dish. We love the sweet savoury pieces of tender chicken served with crunchy cashew nuts and spicy sauce.

Cashew Nut Chicken - $12

A perfect appetizer that we will always go for when it comes to sharing dishes. Pandan Chicken is highly regarded for its fragrant and flavourful profile. It not only pleases the palate but also engages the senses of visual as well as aromatic appeal. It's a beloved recipe in Thai cuisine.

Pandan Chicken (5pcs) -$12

A delighting mix of flavours and texture whereby it satiate our taste buds with the healthy greens as well as the crispy roasted meat. The dish was said to be versatile and easily fit into a variety of meal settings be it a simple meal to a more elaborate banquet.

Stir Fried Kai Lan with Roasted Meat - $12

The crispy cuts of the Roasted Meat added bits of surprise to the vegetable dish.

Crispy Roasted Pork

The fresh and chewiness of the sotong in a mixture of sweetness and spiciness is totally appetizing.

Thai Style Spicy Sotong - $14

Here's what we had for the meal including the drinks.

Our Meal

We ended the meal with a chilling bowl of creamy coconut ice cream dessert topped with red ruby. I enjoyed the crunchiness of the water chestnut from the red ruby as well as the sweetness from the jackfruit.

Coconut Ice Cream with Red Ruby - $7

The dessert is sure to impress.

Tuck Kee Son 德记仔 (Yishun) [Media Invite]

Tuck Kee Son has recently moved their stall from Jalan Bukit Merah to Yishun Get Together Coffeeshop 欢聚一堂. They are also expanding their regular noodles selections to Seafood, Meat and veggie delights!

Stall of Tuck Kee Son

Cze Char

"Yu Kong Hor" or better known as Moonlight Hor Fun is one of the recommended dishes from Tuck Kee Son. It got its name partly due to the raw egg that was cracked over the hot noodles, creating a silky and rich texture when mixed. The plate of Hor Fun was sweet and savoury packed with smoky tastes with hints of “Wok Hei”. Pork slices, powdered intestines and vegetables together with pork lard cubes enhanced the taste of the bland noodles taste.

On a side note, their Hor Fun is imported from Ipoh has they are more silky in texture and contain more rice flour.

Yu Kong Hor 月光河 - $6.30 / $9.30

The pal who had eaten Tuck Kee Son's Hokkien Fried Bee Hoon in their Bukit Merah Outlet was singing praises about this. The crackling fresh lard was hard to skip. The plate was well fried with some parts turned crispy for the Bee Hoon, cradling the aromatic "Wok Hei" flavours. Vegetables, prawns and lean meat were part of the dish's ingredients.

Hokkien Fried Bee Hoon 福建炒米粉 - $5.80 / $8.80

The dish “Dai Loke Mee” is a popular Malaysian dish. The thick noodles were cooked in sweet dark soy sauce coupled with vegetables, pork lards, and pork slices.

Dai Loke Mee 大碌面 - $5.80 / $8.80

Steamed Fish tasted best and fresh in the tangy sweet sourish Assam style.

Ipoh Steamed Tilapia 怡宝蒸山水金凤

A less often dish that we will see from the Cze Char Menu but Tuck Kee Son has it all! This light and protein-packed meal tasted best with egg yolk and vinegar.

Crab Meat Stir Fry Egg Whites 蟹肉赛螃蟹 - $20 / 30 /40

These prawn balls were coated in its crispy batter and deep fried. Combining these succulent prawn balls with the strong pungent & spicy Japanese Dressing creates a unique flavour to the dish. Black Sesame was sprinkled on the prawns too, giving it a better presentation.

Wasabi Shrimp Ball 芥末虾球 - $20/30/40

The Big Prawn Hor Fun had kind of impressed me. The generous servings of large battered prawns and the savoury and luscious gravy of the yummy Hor Fun were the best combination. What an indulgence I thought with fragrant pork lards and egg yolk too.

Big Prawn Hor Fun 大虾河粉皇 - $9.80 / $13.80

The chicken was deep-fried and well-coated in its sauce.

General Tso's Chicken 左宗棠鸡 - $16 / 25 / 32

Sweet Savoury Sauce uniformly coated the pork ribs and the dish was topped with sesame seeds.

Dang Gui "Zhe Jiang" Pork Ribs 当归浙江排骨 - $16 / 25 /32

The Golden Pumpkin sauce was savoury and creamy topping to the fresh crustaceans. They added a tad of saltiness to the natural sweetness of the crab meat.

Alaska King Crab Pumpkin Superior Stock 阿拉斯加帝王蟹配金瓜上汤 - $48

The chilli sauce with Alaksa Crab was "da bomb". The Sauce strikes a very good balance between savoury sweetness and spiciness. The smooth and delicious sauce was to died for. Comparing the Pumpkin Sauce and this. I would definitely prefer this.

Alaska King Crab Chili Sauce 阿拉斯加帝王蟹配辣椒酱 - $48

Tuck Kee Son offers a good spread of Cze Char, different from the mainstream of our local coffeeshop Cze Char as they offer interesting Malaysian dishes.
