Jiak Mee

While browsing through the social media recently, it came to our knowledge that there is a popular Handmade Noodle stall, Jiak Mee, located above Bishan Bus Interchange.

Jiak Mee

We ordered You Mee in the dried version. The Noodles were tossed in a sweet dark sauce with vegetables, anchovies and minced meat as ingredients. The bowl of soup was tasty with familiar instant noodle MSG and with egg added.

You Mee (Dry) - $5.30

The bowl of Mee Hoon Kueh was topped with fragrant fried shallot as well as fried anchovies.

Traditional Mee Hoon Kueh (Soup) - $4.80

The texture of Mee Hoon Kueh (MHK) was chewy and gave me a different perspective of the usual texture of MHK.

Chewy

The broth was different and tasted more of the bland side if compared to the soup given to the Dry Version. Eggs, vegetables and minced meat were also part of the Hand Made Noodle.

Ingredients

We did not order other finger food as our purpose is to try out their handmade noodle. The stall helpers were friendly.

Overall, though I find that Jiak Mee standard of Home Made Noodle may be better than the usual stall. I find that its pretty ordinary for me and luckily there is no long queue during my order. In short, there are better Mee Hoon Kueh out there.

Galangal in Bishan

Galangal is a halal-certified Thai restaurant located in Bishan Club House, just a stone's throw away from Bishan Sports Hall.

Galangal, taste the flavours of Thailand

While locating the restaurant may be tricky, keep looking for the Neon lights with flowers just beside the basketball court.

Eye Catching Decors

The Floral Theme makes the cafe so beautiful. As we stepped into the restaurant, we were greeted by the wall of roses, the environment gives a very lovely & comfortable feel to dine in. With the pinkish splash of colours, especially with flower decoration at this corner, I would have thought that there was an event going on for ROM (Registry of Marriage). This will be good corner to bring your partner to romance your date too.

Interior decorations

I can't wait to have my Thai Food. Let's take a look at the menu.

It's too beautiful not to take pictures against the wall of roses!

Good Bites [Media Invite]

Good Bites has recently reopened after a minor facelift from a neon-filled exterior theme to a trending Glamping Theme. Look at the tentage setup with the portable chairs and tables, it definitely gives a good feel for outdoor activities.

While we all thought that the cafe was opened in an inconspicuous location at Level 3 of Bishan ActiveSG Sports Hall, we were all amazed by how bustling the place was.

The alfresco dining area is divided into 2 kinds of glamping environments and is well-illuminated. With one side featuring the desert vibe while the other featuring the planet vibes.

Entrance Walkway of Good Bites

The vibes and mood of the alfresco area really did give a different dining experience. Enjoy the starry starry night under this romantic setting.

A combination of savoury crispy fried chicken with freshly baked waffles. The sweet and fluffy waffle creates a unique and delicious flavour contrast. We drizzled some maple syrup to enhance the savoury elements. Love the comforting food that combines the texture and flavours.

The party basket is a very good choice of side for sharing if you are dining in a group. The basket has 8 pcs calamari, 6 pcs of spicy mid-wings and sweet potato fries served with tartar sauce.

Unsure what to grab from their Mains? We had the recommended Baked Salmon from their menu. The Salmon was perfectly done with a crisp layer of skin while retaining a good texture and juicy salmon meat. Its served with seasoned vegetables, sauteed mushrooms and a bed of yummy mashed potatoes. Pair them with the delectable herb cream sauce!

Linguine was cooked to its correct texture and tossed in fragrant butter, garlic and chilli. The chicken ham was cut into little cubes, providing a savoury and meaty element.

Indulging in their Fruitty Frappe and we had both from their menu. The Mixed Berries Frappe was "berry-licious". We were overwhelmed by the overflowing of Berries. What I like about it was that the frappe was not too sweet and was refreshing with the vibrant flavours of the berries.

Mixed Berries Frappe - $8.90

Another delightful and refreshing Frappe that gave a creamy texture. The frappe is perfect for a hot day or simply a delightful treat if you are in the mood for anything cool and fruity.

Having tried their Molten Chocolate Lava Cake at Citrus By the pool, we were all tempted to ordering this as our dessert. The Rich Chocolate Lava had the right amount of sweetness.

Molten Chocolate Lava Cake

Love the warm gooey chocolate lava that packed the richness of chocolatey goodness coupled with the generous scoopy of vanilla Ice Cream. If you are there for an occasion, you may want to request them to write something on the serving plate instead.

Chocolatey Goodness

Similar to Citrus By the Pool located in Woodlands, they operate daily, from 11am to 5am the next day. Now we know where to go again if we are in this area at the wee hours.

Thank you Ericia & Good Bites for the invitation.

Jai Thai

Jai Thai is known for its value for money authentic thai cuisine. With 4 outlets around, half of Jai Thai outlets are serving Halal Menu while the other half consists of non-halal menu. We visited the outlet in Clover Way which is tuck away among the neighbourhood estate.

Jai Thai
Interior is simple with Thai music playing in the background. Servers are mostly Thai and you can hear them communicating in Thai language among themselves.

Interior
Haven't seen this on Thai Menu for sometimes and Thai Chendol makes up of Thai Ruby, green jelly, sago and taste refreshing with the light coconut milk with ice.

Thai Chendol
A good start to the thai food with the finger food on a mix platter. The platter contains 4 kinds of fried items like Thai Fish Cake, Deep Fried Beancurd, Prawn Cake and Popiah accompanied with fragrant chilli and peanut dipping sauce.

Mixed Platter - $8 (Small)
No Papaya salad in their menu but you can choose to have Tang Hoon Salad or mango Salad.

Mango Salad - $7 (Small)
Preferring noodles to rice, we ordered Phad Thai to pair along with other side dishes. Phad Thai taste sweet and appetizing, ordinary.

Phad Thai Prawn - $10 (Medium)
Well executed deep fried fish fillet with sweet tamarind sauce, a perfect go with either a plain bowl of rice or just as finger food alone.

Deep Fried Fish Fillet with Tamarind Sauce - $8 (Small)
Comparing the Thai Food that we had in the neighborhood in a few posts back, Jai Thai's Pandan Chicken is no doubt the best between them! Pandan Chicken is sold at a minimum of 2 pieces and each costing $2.50. The golden brown chicken meat was plump and juicy, dressed nicely in pandan leaves with roasted sesame seeds on it.

Pandan Chicken - $2.50 / Pcs
Chicken or Seafood? Clear or Chilli Base? That are the common options we have for Tom Yum Soup.
Ingredients include, prawn, sotong, msuhrooms and fried fish. We seldom get to see fried fish in the soup and this is not very common. The taste is pretty good with slight spiciness giving you the fiery kick!

Tom Yum Seafood Soup - $7 (Small)
One of the Kid's friendly meal option with no chili for your consideration. Fried Tang Hoon is moist and appetizing fried together with chicken and vegetables.

Fried Tang Hoon - $7
One place off the To-Visit List! I have been waiting to visit Jai Thai every time I pass by their outlet in Bugis. Considering the price and quality of food, the standard is there and decent. I won't mind recommending people there for a pocket-friendly Thai Food over in Jai Thai.
