Maccha House

A visit back to Maccha House after a good 7 years after our lunch nearby.

An after-meal dessert like this definitely makes one happy. The Maccha Mille Crepes with azuki topping, served with raspberry sauce, slices of mixed fruits and Maccha soft serve ice cream.

Maccha Mille Crepes - $10.99

Maccha Mille Crepe was light in taste and topped with yummy Azuki beans, what a perfect combination.

Maccha Mille Crepe

What a savoury treat! The Maccha Tiramisu Parfait is made up of layers of kanten jelly, fresh cream, Azuki Jam, and cornflakes, topped with Maccha Tiramisu, Shiratama dumplings, chestnut and Maccha soft serve ice cream.

Enjoying the cup of Maccha Latte Float with a scoop of Maccha ice cream and some Shiratama rice dumplings?

Maccha Latte Float with Shiratama 白玉フロート抹茶ラテ- $7.40 (Regular)

The Maccha Shiratama & Azuki Beans Latte is just another version of Maccha Latte with Shiratama added with the Azuki Beans and fresh cream. I had this on the last visit and the large version was only $6.90 and now it's $7.40 for the regular size.

Matcha Lovers out there, this is something that cannot be missed! If you are in Orchard, do visit the basement of Orchard Central and you will find Maccha House waiting for your patronization.

Maccha House serves Maccha treats from drinks to dessert. They also serve simple Japanese Food too. I got the chance to visit when my friends decided to have part 2 of our gathering session after our main meal at Orchard Gateway and we literally sit and chit chat there till lights were shut off and most of the staff were preparing to end there work.

Maccha House
We can never miss out on beverages especially when we are planning for a chit-chat session. I started off with my Maccha Shiratama (Rice Dumplings) & Azuki bean (Red Beans) latte. The first sip had concluded the standard in Maccha House and they are definitely not open for the sake of the vibe. As compared to those Green Tea Latte served in coffee joints and St Marc Cafe, this gave a better after taste as well as a refreshing treat. Thus I would say Happiness is a cup of wonderful Maccha Latte.

Maccha Shiratama & Azuki Beans Latte - $6.90 (Large)

Maccha Latte Float is another variation of their Latte drinks. It has a very good Maccha Scent and was not too creamy. Looking straight and into its kitchen, i learned that the amount of Maccha used were measured precisely by the kitchen helpers and every cup of it was served at its best condition.

Matcha Latte Float - $5.90 (Large)

The girls who were not too keen on cold beverages took up the fun in preparation of the traditional Maccha. About half a table spoon of Maccha Powder was given in a bowl and all patrons has to do is to hands-on by pouring the hot water into the bowl and use the wooden stirrer to dissolve it.

Traditional Maccha - $3.90

Dipped into sweet ginger syrup and showered with peanut dust, I was glad that we have 1 Mochi each as the ginger syrup taste was not really my style.

Mochi
Interesting made Maccha Tiramisu hold in a little crate like container served with a cup of Hojicha. Layers of soft vanilla sponge cake with Macarpone cream cheese and spreaded evenly with Maccha Powder.

Maccha Tiramisu - $6.90

It looked so delicate that we do not bear to dig our spoon in.

Dig in the spoon
Look at the elegant twirls from the Maccha Soft Serve and its sensational texture. The combination of the ice cream served in the modern Japanese stone dish together with fruits, Azuki Beans and Shiratama was simply eye-pleasing. Smooth and cooling when it touched our tongue, there was no bitter taste from the Maccha. Instead, we were satisfied in its level of sweetness. A cup of Hojicha was provided to clear the taste in the mouth after such indulgence.

Maccha Soft Serve Anmitsu with Shiratama - $9.40

Dark Green Syrup / Coloring was also provided to enhance the plain green soft serve. Just look at the color contrast from the green, have it enticed you yet?

Let it flow!
Maccha House is a good place in Orchard to gather for some snacks or desserts after a big meal in Orchard. It is rather popular as I observed the crowd as well as the turn over is fast. I would not mind bringing my friends here after dining or shopping in Orchard.

Tanuki Raw

I have been reading Tanuki Raw somewhere and it kinds of remind me of Donburi with onsen egg. (Their marketing advertisement has been good to give me such good impression). We was looking at Minions Cafe in Orchard Central and it wasn't appealing to us and by chance we decided to dine in Tanuki Raw instead.

The Bar Counter

Counter overseeing Kitchen
Tanuki Raw is modernly furnished in an industrial interior tempered by eye-catching furniture.
and has 80 seats spread across an outdoor balcony overlooking Orchard Road.

It was fun sitting at the bar side observing how the tenders mix and prepare variety of drinks. As for our glasses of Water Melon Yuzu. Fresh watermelon juice were already prepared before hand and kept in the fridge. They just have to mix portion of it with yuzu and served them on the "rocks".

Water Melon Yuzu - $10

Tanuki's Coaster
While Tanuki Raw is having a house promotion for happy hour daily from 5-8pm, we get to order Oysters at $2 each, limited to 6 pcs per glass of drink. The fresh raw oysters they served were brought in from Canada, France and Japan.

Fresh Oysters - $2 Each
Besides having that, we ordered a plate of 5 slices salmon that falls under the happy hour promotion too. It was great having Sashimi again with Wasabi and Soy Sauce!

Salmon Sashimi
For bites, seeing Sweet Potato Fries excites me. These thick-cut sweet potato fries were deep fried with Tanuki Raw's spice mix, truffle oil and served with truffle aioli in an aluminium tin.

Truffle Sweet Potato Fries - $10.90
One of the recommended rolls on the Menu is none other than the Golden Kani Maki with deep fried house seasoned soft shell crab, fresh snow crab, cucumber and crispy mozzarella all in a roll. Divided into portion of 4, these delicious rolls were topped with toasted seaweed and drizzled with generous amount of golden salted duck egg hollandaise sauce.

Golden Kani Maki - $18.90
Well, we just did not have enough of salmon and here comes the seared salmon roll topped with Mentaiko sauce over some crispy mozzarella cheese, seasoned flakes and Tanuki's Oko Sauce! Yums!

Superstar Roll - $12.90
It was my first time there and would not be my last. Simply love the environment. Best of all, if you are having gathering with friends who are vegetarians, there are food for them too. Hope to be back soon.

Pompompurin Cafe [Closed]

To be honest, I'm not aware of Pompompurin till I saw its cafe launched in Singapore few months ago. Pompompurin comes from the Sanrio family which also feature Hello Kitty, My Melody & Little Twin Stars. Theme Cafe has always amazed me and as you know there isn't much Sanrio Theme Cafe here in Singapore and it sounds pretty fun to be involved in one.

Pompompurin Cafe
Looking at its menu, I feel like trying all as items was so attractive with cuteness overload by the Yellow Character. It's environment was featured in a theme of Garden City and everything looks peaceful and serene.

Cafe Theme

Merchandise
Every table comes with a temporary "friend" to dine with - the Pompompurin plush. Do have some hugs to it and a photo session.

Dining with a Friend
Amazed by the cup of milk shake with printed Pompompurin Marshmallows topping off the gelatinous textured drink. The taste of refreshing fresh milk was really something I look upon to while the Mocktail of mango juice and fruits goes perfectly with cream and marshmallow in the fruity flavours.

Puru Puru Pudding Shake - $12.99 & Fruity Garden Mango Juice - $11.99
Printed Marshmallow
An adorable plate of slow-cooked mushroom stroganoff consisting deep flavours of scrambled eggs, onions and mushroom. Character Pompompurin was made up with yellow rice balls with meatball as its top and choclate fudge drawing out its eyes and nose, sitting on a bed of vegetables.

Pompompuri's Mushroom Stroganoff - $17.99
Like the Mushroom Straganoff dish, Pompompurin was made up by yellow rice balls but it was served in a cup instead. Pairing the rice with a little pot of stewed beef in delicious red wine sauce and sweet onions. Tasty and I like it.

Red Wine Beef Stew - $17.99
Not your usual cup of rice
There are some desserts menu that exclusivelyy alloweed their customer to take-home a pompompurin sovenir mug. We have a lot of mugs at home and was not too tempted to have additional in the kitchen thus we had ordered the Mango Parfait without the mug. Served in a wobbly Purin with diced mangos  as well as little scoops of ice cream. Dig in your dessert spoon and check out the spongy cake at its base!

Pompompurin's Mango Parfait - $19.99
How do we resist cute stuff? It's so hard to do so. Having a Buddy meal that consist of 2 drinks, 2 mains and a dessert with $10 off the bill ends us up paying a bomb too as it cost about $90 in total after the discount. Drinks are considered expensive here and taste wise it is still ok.

BWB - Burgers VS Wings + Bar

Over the last quarter I have seen enticing big juicing burgers popping up in my mailbox from Groupon featuring B.W.B. While waiting for my dinner mate and drawing close to meal times, I saw the queues piling up and BWB getting more occupied, thus by the time my dinner mate was there, we need to join the queue. Fortunately the wait wasn't too long.

BWB - Burger VS Wings + Bar
Following the fighting theme in the restaurant, its quite interesting to see boxing accessories like punching mits, head gears, boxing shorts all around.

Open Concept Kitchen
But one need not have to worry, there will be no boxing affairs going on during dining.

Interior
Located at the roof of Orchard Central, patrons get a choice over to sit at the roof top gather enjoying the Alfresco Dining Environment.

B.W+B
With ample of lightings, I would say that the ambiance was really comfortable and suitable for people to wind themselves down after a hard day of work.

Alfresco Dining

As I'm more interested in the Boxing accessories, I decided to stay under the air-conditioned environment. Interestingly, table number with big sticker pasted on the center, looks abit retro here with some portions missing.

Table Number

Just flip over the menu and get ready for the food fight!

Food Fight
Smoothing our night, we had these instead of Alcohol that was 1 for 1. The smoothies was not too bad, just that the Honey Orange flavoured drink tasted abit unusual without Orange flavour.

Honey Orange Smoothie & Peach Lychee Smoothie - $6.50 Each
The heavy weight wings was aromatic but at the sight of it, I was expecting something more plump from its name but it did not seem to leave up to its namesake. When I picked them up, they were not heavier than any of the usual wings I had. They were deep fried into crispiness and had its meat pushed upwards revealing its bone at the lower bottom. I felt abit short change for there was more chicken skin than meat.

Heavyweight Wings / Boxing Wings - $14.50
Classic Burgers is one of the Champion Choice with stockyard Angus Beef patty, smoked bacon, chilli con corng, sunny side egg, french mustard, tomato onion, cheddar cheese and sesame brioche bun. The beef patty, if was a little more juicer will be good.

BWB Classic Heavy Weight Burger - $19.90
I have heard abit about their burgers especially their Tyson Burger that comes with nutty bites.Using Stockyard angus beef, streaky bacon, arugula leaves, sunny side egg, cheddear cheese and sun-dried tomato bricohe bun with peanuts spread. Its really a good idea having burgers with such crunchy peanuts spread which give a nutty fragrance and crunchy texture. Though it may be a uncommon combination, it tasted quite good.

Tyson Peanut Butter Burger - $21.90
Matching our lonely burgers, we had topped up $3.80 each for a basket of fries. There were nothing impressive on those two fries just that the Cheese Fries was close to what one of the fast food restaurants was serving but with a firmer fries texture.
Cheese Fries - $3.80
Likewise for the other type of fries, the creation was simple, with fried chopped garlic sprinkled over them.

Garlic & Parsley Fries - $3.80

After having a number of burgers meals recently, BWB Burgers are said to be better than average. However, on the pricing side, I would say its on a high side with all the food above, our bill end up to be $80 over for 2 pax. Still, overall, it was a good experience.
