Macpherson Minced Meat Noodles 老麦波申肉脞面

Having tried Macpherson Minced Meat Noodles in Bukit Batok, we will want to visit their stall in Tai Tong Crescent which was opened last July 2021. The menu has 5 items and did not differ.

Stall of Macpherson Minced Meat Noodles

We can only see 2 young guys at the stall during our visit with one in the kitchen preparing the noodles while the other standing next to the queue taking our orders. Here's our order and just too bad that no Bee Tai Mak is available.

Our Order

The Chicken Feet was very well braised with hints of mushroom fragrance. The taste was even and the  size of chicken feet was big. The cost to 3 pieces of yummy chicken feet is absolutely a steal.

Chicken Feet - $2

Noodles were springy and well-tossed with braised sauce as well as their seasonings. Ingredients include slices of fish cakes, liver, lean meat, minced pork as well as thoroughly braised mushrooms.

Minced Meat Noodle - $5

The bowl of soup was above my expectation! It was full of meaty flavours and this style totally fit us!

Close up to the Minced Meat Noodle Ingredients

We ordered Mee Pok for Fishball Noodle, and the noodle was springy too, tossed with a tasty sauce. Ingredients were braised mushrooms, fishballs and fishcakes.

Fishball Noodle - $3

Though the presentation of the noodles was of limited colours and dull, the taste of the seasonings and sauce was good.

CocoSan [Media Invite]

Coconut is a good source of electrolytes in our system and whenever I'm feeling dehydrated, a cup of coconut like this does hydrate and boost my system. Cocosan is a Japanese Style Fruit Bar in Singapore that offers healthy shakes.

CocoSan at Paya Lebar Square

We had the Purple Rice Coconut Shake and Coconut Chrysanthemum Shake.

Coconut Purple Rice Shake

Each cup of 500ml coconut purple rice shake contains 45g of purple rice. I'm quite a fan of purple rice and I'm quite satisfied with the fragrant purple rice bits among my cup of coconut shake. Purple rice is not only a source of fibre and protein but as well as a significant source of iron.

Coconut Chrysanthemum Shake
Fresh coconut juice is blended with chrysanthemum tea. The floral fragrant and herbal flavour from the flower made the drink aromatic. The combination of the flower and coconut juice gave us a surprise with its uniqueness. Chrysanthemum Tea has 7 top health benefits that include:

1) Promote deep relaxation
2) Promote Healthy Metabolism
3) Maintain Bone Health
4) Maintain Health Immune System
5) Improve Vision
6) Promotes Healthy Heart Function
7) Skin Care

Coconut Purple Rice Shake & Coconut Chrysanthemum Shake - $4.60

I will like to have more cups of Coconut shakes when I'm back at the place again.

Old World [Media Invite]

Do you know who is behind the multiple branches of Old World?

Jemmy Yeo is a veteran Chef & Founder of Old World Fried Porridge aka "炒粥".  He also improvises with local's tastebuds from scratch and now has created more than 40 items on his stall menu.

Old World

Here's what we ordered:

(1) Signature Bak Kut Teh (Dry)
(2) Dry Fried Mee Sua
(3) Mixed Pig's Organ Fried Porridge
(4)
Mixed Pig's Organ Soup
(5) Fried Large Intestine

Our Orders
Our Orders

The dried version of their Signature Bak Kut Teh was savoury. The sweet sauce that coated every piece of the ingredients in the bowl tasted like "Gong Bao". Ingredients include a mixture of pork rib, meatball, stomach, lean meat, belly, trotter, lady's finger and some cut cuttlefish.

Signature Bak Kut Teh (Dry) 招牌肉骨茶(干炒)
Signature Bak Kut Teh (Dry) 招牌肉骨茶(干炒)- $10

Old World's Dry Fried Mee Sua is my all-time favourite.  I love its texture and taste for it was so consistently tossed in seasoning. With the use of pork lards enhancing the taste, the bowl of Mee Sua was indeed flavourful to the point that I can just have the bowl alone without other ingredients.

Dry Fried Mee Sua 干捞炸面线 - $1
Dry Fried Mee Sua 干捞炸面线 - $1

Their version of Fried Porridge base is made up of Hokkien Dried Oyster Porridge or Hokkien Kiam Bei. The taste is unique and every mouth was burst full of flavours. With the smokiness and natural sweetness from the meat as well as offals. The overall taste was given a final touch by the fragrant fried shallots and cut spring onions.

Mixed Pig's Organ Fried Porridge 猪杂炒粥 - $6

The texture of the porridge was of smooth consistency with every grain cooked to soften. I'm totally in love with how every mouthful of the porridge brings out the Wok Hei Flavours. If you are at Old World, this is something you cannot skip from their menu.

Ingredients from the Fried Porridge

Mixed Pig Organ Soup was downright appetizing, striking a good balance of sweetness from the meat and some sour taste from the preserved vegetables.

Mixed Pig's Organ Soup 猪杂汤 - $4.50

It looked as though ingredients were added unsparingly. At the price diners are paying with the number of ingredients, it's value for money. You can find pig stomach, liver, meatball, pork belly, lean meat and preserved vegetables in the bowl of scrumptious soup.

Ingredients of Mixed Pig's Organ Soup

The Fried Large Intestine was served in bite-size and was crispy. It let out a crunch as we sink our teeth down. The textural bites were addictive.

Fried Large Intestine 炸大肠 - $6.50

The Large Intestine was well handled and there was no gamy taste. Perfect.

Bite Size of the Intestine

The taste of the dishes was adequate and hit the right spot. I will be back again for other dishes as the menu was quite extensive.

Special Thanks to Lao Niang Agency for the kind invite.

Hup Hup Mee Siam・Laksa・Lor Mee [Media Drop]

Hup Hup is awarded with Top 10 Mee Siam in Singapore and was also featured on the media platforms like Shin Min Daily News etc. They have more than 30 years of experience in culinary and aim to provide these carefully curated recipes of local food delights that were passed down from generations.  Hup Hup (合合) have been around for more than 50 years. Withe the food deliveries option available, we were lucky to have these bowls of yummy local food sent to our doorsteps.

Packaging of Hup Hup

Hup Hup packaged their food in disposable paper bowls and gravy is packed separately in plastic packets. This is good as it prevents the noodles from being soggy with the delivery.

Gravy Separated

While I was wondering how does the top 10 Mee Siam in Singapore tastes like, i took my first sip of the gravy. I was swept away by the sweetness of this Chinese Mee Siam gravy. The nutty taste together with the rich coconut milk taste was addictive. Before I could even finish my Bee Hoon, I had finished the gravy. Its fragrant was made prominent with the use of dried shrimp.

Mee Siam

The orange strands of Bee Hoon on the other hand were soft and had carried out the gravy flavours well within. The ingredients of Mee Siam were pretty common, with hard-boiled egg, beansprouts and Tau Pok.

Orange Bee Hoon (Mee Siam)

The bowl of traditional Lor Mee comes with the Hokkien Flat yellow noodle. Ingredients include slices of pork, fish cakes, Ngoh Hiang and half a hard-boiled egg. The Lor taste had a light traditional braised taste which is good as it is not overpowering.

Lor Mee

Laksa was served with thick bee hoon and the ingredients are fishcakes, Tau pok, half hard-boiled egg and cockles.

Laksa

Gravy was sufficiently thick and creamy, packed with fragrance. Flavour was good and decent. What a comforting bowl of local flavour!

Ingredients of Laksa

Thank you Hup Hup for sending the food over.

Sembawang Traditional Claypot Rice

Have been wanting to visit Sembawang Claypot Rice ever since my last visit to You Huak Restaurant as they were located nearby. Yes, that's a very long time before the pandemic period and I'm really glad that traditional food especially claypot rice stall pull through the trying time.

Traditional Claypot Rice

The medium portion of the Traditional Claypot Rice is recommended for 2 pax. The food in the earthen claypot was still giving out sizzling sound when it was being served to us. This Traditional Claypot rice was fragrant and ingredients include chicken, Chinese sausage, salted fish and vegetables. If you enjoy the rice crisp at the bottom of the pot, Sembawang Traditional Claypot Rice will hit you at the right spot!

Enjoy the rice with their chilli sauce or chilli padi given, that will be heavenly.

Traditional Claypot Rice - $15.80 (Medium)

Spinach with Salted and Century Egg soup was tasty. There were generous amount of soup with spinach soaked within. The  Salted egg and century egg taste had stroke a good balance, it was not overly salty.

Spinach With Salted & Century Egg Soup - $12.80

The Sambal Sotong was generously coated with sambal chilli sauce and frying together with chilli, tomato and onions had enhanced the taste of the dish.

Sambal Sotong - $16.80

Having Traditional food like this really warms my heart as well as stomach. It was a satisfying meal and if you are craving for some traditional food like Claypot Rice or Cze Char Dishes in Sembawang Area, they can be of a good choice.

Shi Mei Hainanese Chicken Rice

Many online have raved about this chicken rice stall being the best among the competitors and the chained chicken rice. With the chicken rice craving, we had, it's hard to resist our legs from carrying ourselves here at Shi Mei Hainanese Chicken Rice Stall.

It was a surprise to us as the stall was packed and with customers surrounding the stall waiting for their number to be called. Nonetheless, the lady who was in charge of taking orders was quick and got our orders done in a minute or two.

Stall of Shi Mei Hainanese Chicken Rice

This is absolutely a lunchtime gluttony meal for 2 pax with so much meat. We had assorted meat (4 types) and a Thai Style Beancurd.

Our Orders - $32.40

The Thai Style Beancurd was deep fried and coated with sweet and sauce chilli sauce.

Thai Style Beancurd

We ordered a quarter of steamed chicken and a quarter of roasted chicken. This tender and glistering chicken was generously drenched by a few layers of sticky sauce whose style was rather unique as compared to the usual coffee shop chicken rice we had. The meat was decked up by a bed of blanched beansprouts,

Roasted and Steamed Chicken with braised egg

The crackling roasted pork skin was delicious and the layer of meat to fat was clearly defined by a glance. Char Siew on the other hand was drenched with sweet tasty dark sauce and had some charred edges.

Char Siew  Roasted Pork

The bowl of chicken rice was packed full of fragrance and I can totally consume it plainly without any meat. On a side note, for those who love to drink the soup that comes with the meal, it may be a little disappointing as it was rather peppery.

Rice - $1.20

Shi Mei Hainanese Chicken Rice Style is indeed standing up from the rest with its bean sprouts and the sauce used. If you are looking for a style away from our conventional chicken rice meal that is ladled with soy and sesame sauce over the chicken meat, you might want to give this a try.

Erikos.sg

My feed in social media was kind of flooded with yummy Western Food from this coffee shop stall in Bukit Batok. There are a variety of dishes to choose from in their menu booklet.

Stall of Erikos

The onion rings order comes with a salad. While our mains had already a portion of the salad, this additional salad on our side order can be done without.

Crispy Onion Rings with Salad - $4.80

The grilled Salmon & Tiger Prawn dish with corn cob looks sad. Meat items on the plate are unattractive and look dry.

Grilled Salmon & Tiger Prawn - $14.50

The meat lost its shine and we were disappointed by the mains on our plate.

Salmon

The steak was ordered of medium doneness however it was not cooked evenly. Some parts are about medium rare. Their dishes only comes with pepper sauce even for chicken chop which leaves the diners with no other choice.

Angus Ribeye (200g) with Pepper Sauce - $14.50

The black pepper sauce was too peppery and masked the taste of the meat when paired together. Pasta likewise was a bit dry and the taste was bland. The corn cob was lacking of natural sweetness. The salad did not have much variety and was mediocre with limited dressing.

Angus Beef

The Duck Leg Stufato on the other hand was fork tender and meat got torn off from the bone quickly. It comes with mashed potatoes, carrots, corn cob and salad. Out of all dishes order, the Duck Leg Stufato will be our better choices.

Duck Leg Stufato - $12.90

The wait for our dishes were more than 30 minutes on a Weekend. Despite that the coffee shop has no crowd, Erikos.sg has quite a number of food deliveries order in the queue. Was it worth the wait? Well, there is better western fare in the distreet.
