Tian Tian Lai Famous Teochew Fish Head Steamboat

A hidden gem perched atop an industrial building in Bedok. Quite a surprise, as I have always thought eateries belonged on the more prominent lower levels just like the first floor! Being on the top floor has its perks, drivers can park freely nearby!"

Tian Tian Lai Famous Teochew Fish Head Steamboat

We kicked off the meal with their signature Red Grouper Steamboat, rich with umami from the seaweed, vegetables, solefish, and generous chunks of tender red grouper. The soup was so flavorful, I could not stop going back for more!

Red Grouper Steamboat 红斑炉

Portion was great for sharing among the four of us, with plenty of fresh, chunky red grouper pieces found in the pot. Definitely satisfying!

Grouper Fish Chunk

We began the dishes with Prawn Paste Chicken, golden and crispy on the outside, with the prawn paste aroma complementing rather than overpowering the natural sweetness and juiciness of the chicken.

Prawn Paste Chicken 虾酱鸡

The speciality tofu was cut into strips and deep-fried to perfection, crispy on the outside, soft and silky inside. Dipping it into the mayonnaise took the flavour up a notch. We loved how it was prepared!

Speciality Tofu 招牌豆腐

The prawn rolls stood out to me with their unique flat shape, quite different from the usual ones, but I suppose it’s their own take on the dish. Taste-wise, it was pretty decent too.

Prawn Roll 虾枣

I have always loved this combination, deep-fried sotong served with salted egg sauce. It was absolutely addictive and, needless to say, awesome!

Salted Egg Sotong 咸蛋苏东

Another crowd favourite, the Cereal Prawn! Sweet and crispy cereal generously showered over juicy prawns. It was downright yummy.

Cereal Prawn 麦片虾

Another crowd favourite, the Cereal Prawn! Succulent prawns, well-coated with a crispy batter and topped with sweet, crunchy cereal. Absolutely yummy.

Prawn

Not many places serve this dish, so we were all screaming with joy, Cuttlefish Kang Kong! A nostalgic mix of sweet and spicy flavours, loaded with generous portions of cuttlefish and kang kong.

Cuttlefish Kang kong 鱿鱼蕹菜

Definitely nods of approval for the dishes served! If you’re craving a decent Fish Steamboat and solid Cze Char dishes, this place is worth a visit.

Peng Jia Zhou

While the concept of weighing food items usually reminds me of Mala stalls, it’s interesting to see a similar idea now applied to porridge too.

Stall of Peng Jia Zhou

Patrons can handpick their preferred ingredients, priced at $5 per 100g, while the porridge itself is complimentary. For those who love eggs, add-ons like century egg or salted egg are available at just $0.50 per serving.

Menu

Besides adding century egg into your porridge for just $0.50, you can also order it as a side dish at $5.90. It’s served with chili, ginger strips, and a flavorful soy sauce dressing, perfect for an extra kick of flavor.

Peng's Century Egg 彭家皮蛋 - $5.90

The Golden You Tiao is a masterfully crafted delicacy, painstakingly made from scratch to ensure every bite is a perfect balance of crisp and airy texture. Golden brown and delightfully crunchy on the outside, it offers a satisfying contrast to the soft, pillowy interior. Its crispiness makes it the ideal companion for dipping into a rich, savory porridge, where it soaks up the creamy goodness while maintaining its delightful crunch. Each piece is a testament to the skill and care that goes into its preparation, making it a truly unforgettable addition to any meal.

Golden You Tiao 黄金油条 - $0.80 / pc

The Hakka Style Fried Pork is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with savoury flavors. Its rich, golden-brown crust pairs perfectly with the thick, velvety porridge, creating a delightful balance of textures and tastes in every bite.

Hakka Style Fried Pork 客家南乳炸肉 - $5.90

The porridge was cooked to perfection, with a thick and velvety consistency that made each spoonful feel comforting and indulgent. Its smooth texture added a luxurious touch, enveloping the palate in creamy richness.

DIY Porridge

The porridge complemented the crispy Golden You Tiao beautifully, creating a harmonious balance between the crunchy and soft elements of the dish. The consistency was just right neither too runny nor too thick allowing it to hold the flavors while offering a satisfying mouthfeel.

Ingredients

This concept is great for picky eaters, allowing them to customize their own bowl of porridge with ingredients like the crispy Hakka Style Fried Pork. It offers a fun, DIY approach where everyone can tailor their porridge to their tastes, making it a versatile and enjoyable meal for all preferences.

Shiok Hokkien Mee

Shiok Hokkien Mee is in the same coffee shop as Noona Korean Kitchen. It's all about the love of Hokkien Mee! I noticed fans of Shiok’s Hokkien Mee eagerly joining the queue, and I soon realized that enjoying a plate here requires a one-hour wait.

Their first branch, along with the head chef, is located at Golden Mile Food Centre, while this new location in Bedok marks their second branch.

Shiok Hokkien Mee

I was pleasantly surprised by the small portion, which was incredibly filling. Compared to other Hokkien Mee stalls, Shiok’s small portion feels more like a medium—it’s both generous and satisfying!

So Shiok

The length of the queue speaks volumes about its popularity. This plate of Hokkien Mee comes loaded with fresh prawns, tender squid, and pork belly, along with a perfect mix of yellow noodles and bee hoon, all richly infused with flavorful broth. We loved how the noodles absorbed the broth beautifully—unlike other Hokkien Mee stalls, it wasn’t overly wet but had just the right amount of tasty, savoury broth. The dish's unmistakable wok hei added an extra depth, making it an absolutely wonderful plate of Hokkien Mee.

So Good

Adding to the experience, they sprinkled crispy pork lard over the dish, enhancing both the flavor and texture. It was the perfect finishing touch!

Although the location is quite a distance for me, there's no doubt that this plate of Hokkien Mee is worth the journey.

Hamidah's Kitchen @ Kaff Kafe

Heading down to Hamidah's Kitchen at Kaff Kafe in Simpang Bedok only to realise that their Briyani menu was not available in the evening. We were disappointed and decided to go for the alternative.

Hamidah's Kitchen runs a BBQ Menu starting from 5pm to 11pm.

Hamidah's Kitchen @ Kaff Kafe

We were excited about the 10 pieces of Tahu Bagedil and were surprised to see the size of each piece.

Tahu Bagedil - $12

Its a combination of both Toufu and Bagedil fillings in the middle while the exterior was crispy and overall a yummy one.

Cross section of Tahu Bagedil

While at the self service station, we grab our own sauces as well as butter.

Sauces

Love that the Drinks were not too sweet. We had the usual beverage Teh O Limau Ice with Singapore Island that tasted like fruit punch.

Teh O Limau & Singapore Island - $2 & $3.50

For the Steamboat, we chose Platter A for 2 pax. It comprised of:
  • Garlic Chicken,
  • Teriyaki Chicken,
  • Black Pepper Beef,
  • Teriyaki Beef,
  • Korean sliced fish,
  • prawn, squid ring,
  • mussel,
  • quail egg,
  • hotdog,
  • crabstick,
  • chikuwa,
  • fishball,
  • enoki mushroom,
  • beancurd skin,
  • kang kong.

Ingredients for Platter A

We ordered some additional items like Premium Smoke Duck, scallops, instant noodles, cheese tofu, cheese sausage, cheese dip, and chicken cheese ball.

Additional Items we ordered

For the Steamboat BBQ, we chose the Spicy Tom Yum Soup base over chicken soup. Its spiciness level was alright and tasted very appetizing with the sour taste.

Spicy Tom Yum

The BBQ Hot plate is divided into 3 portions. We placed seafood on one part of the hotplate.

BBQ

For another part of the BBQ Hotplate, we placed most of the meat there.

Meat on BBQ

In the other part, we grill the meat and cheese dip there.

It was a good experience to enjoy Halal BBQ Steamboat. Nonetheless, I will like to visit again for their Briyani Dish if I chance by.

Ye Lai Xiang Cheng Tng

Visiting Bedok Food Center with an aim in mind and that’s the ever popular Ye Lai Xiang Cheng Tng which offers one of the better bowls of Ice Chilled and Refreshing Cheng Tng.

Ye Lai Xiang Cheng Tung

A good bowl of Cheng Tng that demands a price of $3 (Cold or Hot). Ingredients were aplenty. While this dessert features the natural sweetness of sweet potato with subtle crunchiness from the winter melon strips as well as the chewy richness of the dried persimmon. Other ingredients include, barley, sago, dried longan, ginkgo nuts etc. The harmony of ingredients gave the desserts a good balance flavours and texture and is definitely perfect for all occasion. The sweetness level was perfect as the ice cubes melted.

Our orders are fast and if you are doing a take away there is no additional charges for the containers too.

Cheng Tung - $3 Per Bowl

Considering the amount of ingredients and the portion on the bowl, I find that $3 is pretty reasonable. It’s good to be back here once in a while for some comforting dessert like this.

Noona Korean Kitchen

Visiting Noona Korean Kitchen in their Bedok Outlet for the All-You-Can-Eat Korean BBQ & Army Stew Buffet. If you ever crave similar Korean Food, this will be a good choice for they are affordable and reasonable, killing 2 birds in 1 stone with BBQ & Army Stew.

Do check out their Buffet Luch and Dinner, 12pm - 5pm & 5pm - 10pm respectively. For Buffet Lunch, it will be priced at $18.90 per adult and $10.90 per child that is below 12 years old while $22.90 & $13.90 for Buffet Dinner. Kids that are below 1m in height get to dine-free.

Noona Korean Kitchen at Bedok

We came here on a weekday night and the whole coffee shop is literally packed with Noona's customers.
Besides the unlimited serving of cooked food like Jacphae and fried chicken wings we had, do help yourselves with their Banchan in the fridge.

For Buffet, its hard to to "whack" their so-called more "valuable" items like the seafood.

Scallops & Flower Crabs

We had them in the hot bubbling Army Stew or so-called Budae Jigae.

Budae Jigae

Not to forget about the Korean Staple, Ramyeon or our kind of "instant noodle".

Ramyeon

We enjoyed the various kinds of marinated meat, pork, chicken and beef over the BBQ stove with cheese melting by the side as well as the grilled egg by the side.

Korean BBQ

Besides enjoying the meat alone, we can also wrap them in the lettuce making our own ssambap with their zingy sauce, ssamjang.

Ssambap

Overall, the friendly services and variety of food were laudable. Its good for gathering if your family & friends enjoy Korean BBQ & Army Stew.

Burp Kitchen & Bar (Bedok Reservoir)

Burp Kitchen & Bar is nestled in the heartlands and overlooking Bedok Reservoir.

Burp Kitchen & Bar

Stopping over here for a meal as well as some refreshing draught beers to beat the heat. We had the Sapporo Premium Japan lager.

Sapporo Premium - $12 / pint

In fact, we returned for this. These mushroom poppers were good to pair with the alcohol we had. These white button mushrooms were battered and perfectly done and served with lime mayonnaise.

Mushroom Poppers - $10

Enjoy another bar grub like the Grilled Unagi Cups. Using the crispy Kueh Pie Tee Shells, served with lettuce, grilled unagi and showered with bonito flakes. Yums!

Grilled Unagi Cups - $12

It's just too boring to order only sides thus we had something filling, the Burp's Burger. Every burger meal comes with potato chips. Love the Brioche bun, beef patty, cheese, caramelized onions, arugula and spicy mayo.

Burp's Beef - $16

The minced patty was juicy and definitely went well in the melting cheese as well as arugula and the spicy mayo sauce.

Cross Section of the Burger

Given its location and the environment, I do not mind visiting again for a chill-out.

Kao Ge Yu

Located in the heart of East Village, Kao Ge Yu is a Chinese Seafood Restaurant that offers an immersive dining experience with signature-flavoured grilled fish, classic snacks, sides and refreshing drinks.

Kao Ge Yu

The restaurant offers a cozy ambiance with cute fish lanterns hanging from the ceiling and if you notice the tiles of the counters were featuring the scales of the fish.

Fish Lanterns

They also have wooden stick games like this for fun. Try your luck and pick the stick.

Sticks Game

The Golden Pumpkin Pie was served in a plate of 5. The exterior of the pie was covered by lots of sesame seeds. While the interior texture was more of a sweet and savoury mochi ball.

Golden Pumpkin Pie

We didn't get to taste the pumpkin flavour though. If you enjoy Mochi, you will definitely like this.

Mochi

The Mouth Watering Chicken was generous in portion and was served chilled and tender. The dish was topped with garlic, sesame seeds, peanuts, spring onions and chilli oil. It is appetizing and best for sharing.

Mouth-Watering Chicken 口水鸡

The spicy level was still acceptable for us and yes, tantalizing to our palattes.

Tender & Mouth Water Chicken

Here comes the starring dish of the meal.

Grilled fish Pot

For the non-spicy options, we were recommended to have Tomato or Garlic flavour Grilled Fish. We ordered the big Linbo Fish and added items like Luncheon Meat, Instant Noodle, Prawns and Oyster Mushrooms. The set is of quality and the portion suits 2-3 pax.

Linbo Fish (Big)

Although we saw that a lot of garlic had been added, it was not as garlicky as I thought. It had balanced out the sweetness of the fish well as well as the savoury soup base which we enjoyed drenching on our bowl of white rice.

Ingredients in the pot had soaked up the flavours of the broth and were yummy.

Luncheon Meat and Lotus Root

The quality of the prawns was worth mentioning. The size was big, fresh and juicy.

Prawns & Garlic

These hand-beaten lemon fruit teas close off our meal on a good note. It was refreshingly good for both flavours.
