En Yakiniku [Media Invite]

Having patronised En Sushi last year which is located on the 2nd level of the same building, I had kind of benchmarked the quality of food based on my last pleasant experience.

En Yakiniku

While EN Yakiniku introduced us to a match made in heaven known as Sake Tengoku. It was a perfect matrimony of the freshest seafood selection with Premium Japanese Sake and a superior broth prepared over a charcoal grill.

EN Yakiniku

The interior lighting was out of my expectations. It's more of red, blue and orange in colors.

What an environment

The En Sashimi serves 5 kinds of Sashimi, We get 3 pieces each of Salmon, Maguro, Hamachi, Mekajiki and Tako served on a stone plate and well decorated with a leaf, flower and shredded radish. You will get a similar dish on the menu when we dine at En Sushi.

En Sashimi - $32.40

Deep fried kimchi dumplings was served with Mayonnise too.

Kimchi Gyoza - $10

Deep fried chicken was pretty ordinary too.

Tori Karaage - $8.40

We enjoyed these Deep-fried sweet shrimps aka Amaebi Karaage with a dollop of Mayonnaise before our mains were served.

Amaebi Karaage $5.40

Beef Balls were deep-fried to a crispy exterior. It may look dry on the outside but once you sink your teeth into the meat ball, you will find the juiciest within.

Beef Balls

We also have the Grilled bacon-wrapped enoki mushroom skewers

Enoki Bacon - $14

New on En Yakiniku's menu, is the Wagyu Ochazuke. The Ochazuke is a simple Japanese Dish made by pouring green tea, dashi or hot water over cooked rice. The hot green tea is pour over the rice and wagyu with pickles, seasme seeds and wasabi.

Wagyu Ochazuke

The bowl of Wagyu Ochazuke was simple yet delightful packed with subtle fragrance of green tea.

Let's Eat

Every table has a stove for the Charcoal. While waiting for the Charcoal to be ready, we were enjoying our appetizers.

Charcoal Grill

Over the Charcoal Fire, we were served with a stack of 3 layers of steamer, with the first layer having fresh seafood (prawns and Asari) steamed with their Premium Japanese Sake. The Sake smells so good and was perfect with the clams and prawns.

First Tier - Fresh Seafood with Premium Japanese Sake

While the server poured the Premium Japanese Sake onto the first tier, the excess Sake did not go to waste, instead, it flowed into the 2nd Tier of the steamer with Garlic Scallops on it. The scallops were yummy with vermicelli and lots of minced garlic.

2nd Tier - Scallop with Garlic

Revealing the last layer where the goodness is found. Premium Sake and seafood essences together with their bubbling hot unami seafood broth. Together with Wagyu Slices, Egg Yolk and Porridge,

Last Tier - Wagyu Porridge

The end product was superb. Love the thick gooey consistency of porridge and its taste with the yummy slices of wagyu.

Porridge

Shitake Mushrooms

The part of the meat was illustrated by a piece of paper on every plate that we had ordered. The Buta Bara for instance has the pork belly indicated on the piece of paper. The meat was slightly coated with a layer of sauce, in preparation for the grill.

Buta Bara

I'm quite nervous upon seeing the word "beef tongue" as I'm unsure what it tastes like. Luckily this tasted fine with sliced beef tongue wrapping up the seasoned rice balls.

Temari Gyu Tan

Grilling Temari Gyu Tan and Shitake Mushrooms

The Thin Slices of Beef Tongue aka Gyu Tan was topped with a bed of spring onions for a greater balance of taste and texture. It was grilled on the underside for a long period then rolled up, wrapping up the spring onions together.

Negi Gyu Tan [Shio] - $27.90

The A4 Wagyu Striploin was beautiful with a good consistency in its marbling.

A4 Wagyu Striploin

The Zabuton is considered as one of the more premium and favourable cuts of beef. Every piece of the Zabuton cut is marbled and was tender, not only that rich in flavour too.

Zabuton

Thanks to the server, who skillfully grilled them over the charcoal, allowing us to enjoy the succulency of the meat.

Grilling Zabuton

Buta Bara

We elevate the dining experience by pairing up the BBQ meat with the given kimchi, lettuce, dabbing the preferred sauce, wrapped them up and put into our mouths.

Wrap the meat

The server asked for the preferred doneness of the meat and grilled according to our preferences

Cutting up the meat

We had the thin sliced A5 Wagyu with Japanese Raw Egg mixed with Truffle.

Thin Slice A5 Wagyu with Japanese Raw Egg & Truffle

It was a total indulgence in a great combination of A5 Wagyu and an unforgettable taste with truffle fragrance.

Yummy!

I had my best Yakiniku experience from En's. Thank you Lao Niang Agency and En Yakiniku for the invitation.

JiaYangDi 家羊地 [Media Invite]

Jia Yang Di is located at Newest, just beside the West Coast highway. They are known for the best choice for Chuan Chuan in the Clementi Area, if not in the West. They used a unique marination of the skewers and adopted the traditional method of charcoal fire grilling which aims to capture Chuan Chuan Lovers in the Western Side of Singapore.

JiaYangDi

They have been operating for a year and a half, attracting foodies and those who love to gather for great food and drinks in a cosy and fun environment.

Dining Interior

While the wet weather did not permit us to have the Alfresco Area, we had no choice but to get ourselves seated in the restaurant. The environment was not too bad, not smokey at all and was beautifully lighted up. What's more, look at the stickers plastered on the walls, they looked funky and interesting.

Comfortable Sitting Area

While we think that JiaYangDi is located in an inconspicuous area, we were a quick surprise to see a constant flow of customers strolling in for skewers. Not to mention the consistent beeping of food delivery orders from their ordering machines.

Wall Mural

JiaYangDi offers a wide range of Skewers served over a griller to keep your food hot thus we do not need to worry about dining in a cold air-conditioned environment.

There are 3 set meals on their menu which offer different permutations of skewers. Besides the quintessential cumin seasoning for the skewers, there are 2 other options available, Sweet Korean and Spicy Asia.

Clicking into their Online Menu under Tin Foil Specialities, we were served with Enoki Mushroom with Garlic. It was soup-based and perfect for the rainy weather with garlic perking up the dish.

Enoki Mushroom with Garlic 锡纸烤蒜蓉金针菇 - $7

Besides the Garlic Egg Plant, there is also an option for the Minced Pork Sauce Egg Plant.

Garlic Egg Plant 锡纸烤全茄 - $8

Looking into their mains, we had their fried rice with luncheon meat. Every grain was evenly coated and shone itself. Ingredients were garlic, luncheon meat, eggs etc. The fried rice was ordinary to me.

Fried Rice with Luncheon Meat 午餐肉炒饭 - $8

Inheriting a recipe from a Chef straight from Sze Chuan, China, their top-selling Cha Jiang Noodle and Braised beef noodles are a definite must-try!

Top Selling Noodles

We craved hot main dishes like this. The dish is known for its rich and flavourful sauce accompanied by strands of smooth textural noodles. Simply loves the diced pork paired with mushrooms, cucumber and spring onions.

Jajiang Noodle 炸酱面 - $8

Perhaps its tailored to our local tastebuds, the beef noodles soup was not too spicy. We enjoyed the braised tender beef cubes with vegetables and coriander.

Sichuan Beef Noodle Soup 四川牛肉面汤 - $9

Under the Seafood Category in their Menu, you may want to try out their Garlic Scallops. Each scallop is tender and well garnished with minced garlic and adorned with spring onion and cut chilli.

Garlic Scallops 烤蒜蓉扇贝 - $4.50

I can't agree more with the online comments that the owner is very friendly and hospitable. Overall, in terms of the ambience and food, it is all worth the trip there. For Chuan Chuan lovers, this is a rare gem in the West!

Thank You Lao Niang Agency and JYD for the invitation.

General of Fried Rice

When the General of Fried Rice stalls keeps popping up in my social Media feed, its hard not to try quickly. The proclaimed fried rice with restaurant standard? Let's try out.

General of Fried Rice

There are a few fried rice base to choose from, the original, Tom Yum, Kari, Mala or with XO Dry shredded Scallop.

Buzzer

I had the plain Fried Rice with the Pork Chop with Black Pepper. The grains were uniformly coated and the amount of eggs used are generous. Take a look at the yellow and white fragments of the cooked egg among those rice with onions and spring onions.

Plain Fried Rice Pork Chop with Black Pepper - $6.50

Plain Fried Rice

While the Mala Fried Rice version had the right amounts of spicy level without turning off my tastebuds.

Mala Fried Rice Pork Chop with Black Pepper - $7.60

Mala Fried Rice

The Pork Chop with Black Pepper was tender but I'm not a fan of black pepper.

Comparing the popular chain of Fried Rice stalls, KOFR, in terms of the pork chop as well as the fried rice, the fragrance was lacking and some flavours too.

However, they have an interesting menu that stands up like the luncheon meat and salmon.
