Al Haleem Restaurant

It was a rare sight that we were here in Little India after dinner time and for supper. If not for the Art Jamming class at Paint Blush we had a few doors away, we would not have a chance to be here.

Al-Haleem

The creamy Butter Chicken was good to pair with our Garlic Naans. It was creamy but not cloying.

Butter Chicken Masala - $8

Its fragrance and taste were a good marriage to our Naans.

Butter Chicken & Naan

This is the first time I'm having their classic curried dish from North Indian Cuisine which was supposedly made with fresh spinach, onions, spices, panner and herbs. I was kind of turned off by the artificial green colour that made my entire mouth green.

Palak Panner - $7

"Palak" is a Hindi word for "Spinach" and "Paneer" refers to cottage cheese. Pardon me but the cheese tasted similar to our Chinese food Tau Gua instead.

Cheese

Sharing the Naan with my friends, we had Garlic and Kulcha Naan. The Kulcha Naan was made up of shredded carrots. Both Naan tasted decent with the gravy we ordered.

Garlic Naan & Kulcha Naan - $3.50 Each

On a side note, we had the egg pratas with Dhal Curry and we loved it very much for the vegetarian curry was packed with Chickpeas taste. Yummy!

19 Cooked Food

Looking through the stalls in the industrial estate, we decided to try the prawn noodle and laksa for the stall has not much queue.

19 Cooked Food

There are no heady taste of Prawn Broth but a simple prawn stock that gives only hints of prawn and meat taste. Ingredients like prawns, lean meat, beansprouts and fishcakes make up this typical basic bowl of Prawn Noodles. It tasted pretty ordinary, kind of reminds me of my primary school canteen food.

Prawn Noodle

If you are looking for some nostalgic taste back in the school canteen, this might fit the bill. The bowl of laksa gravy was not too creamy but came with the basic ingredients like prawn, fishcakes, Tau Pok, and Beansprouts.

Laksa - $4

Perhaps if you are looking for some basic food like Prawn Noodle and Laksa to fill the stomach, this basic and nostalgic bowls of noodles might bring you back some memories. However, if you are looking for something savoury, you might want to give them a miss.

Sin Kee Seafood Soup

While I'm just near the area, I could not resist but to draw myself closer to the Coffesshop with my favourite seafood soup. We ordered a bowl of Seafood Soup and a bowl of dory fish soup to pair with our rice.

Dory Fish & Seafood Soup with Rice

I felt so good tasting their soup for the taste was simply flavourful and fragrant, packed with umami taste. The seafood soup has a mixture of minced meatballs, batang fish slices and fresh prawns.

Seafood Soup

The soup for Dory Fish tasted as good but if I were to choose again, I would prefer batang fish meat because the the bite is there by nature of meat. The dory chunks are thick but the meat was on a softer side with mashy texture as compared to Batang.

Dory Fish

I'm already drooling over it while writing this blog. I'm wondering when can I be back there again.

If you have been a regular of Hong Ji Claypot Bak Kut Teh located in Marsiling, you will have probably seen Sin Kee Seafood Soup since they are located in the same Coffeeshop. Though it is located just beside the bustling hawker centre, I'm rather surprise to see a fully occupied coffeeshop with many family or couples enjoying their meals. At a glance, perhaps 80% were having our local delight, Bak Kut Teh, while about 15% were patrons of Sin Kee Seafood Soup and the rest were sticked to some others stall in there.

Sin Kee Seafood Soup

Sin Kee stands up from most seafood soup stalls as they offer unique soups instead of just the usual boring stuff we had. Their Seafood soup comes with, prawns, Promfet Fish, Dory Fish, Batang Fish and even Crayfish. Any permutations you name it, its all ready for us. If you would like to have them in Tom Yum, no problem, its also available here.

I had Crayfish with Batang Slices to go with a bowl of white rice. It caught me by surprised when I saw the chalky orange soup as I was expecting some clear soup. I quickly dig my spoon in and took a sip. Oh Boy! It was delicious!

Crayfish with Batang Slices - $10.50
The sweet nature of the soup from the marinated minced meat and seafood together with the tangy flavours of tomato were absolutely appetizing. Tomatos were cooked to the point where it disintegrates in the mouth with the slightest pressure. Chunks of Batang Fish and minced meat were ever generous, whereas for the crayfish, we only have 1.5 of the portion.

Seen the Crayfish?
The bowl of seafood soup is definitely up to the mark and value for money. Recommended!

Taman Selera West Coast

I used to visit Taman Selera West Coast for their Mee Rebus Satay as it is a special dish that we seldom get to see from the hawkers. However, today we are not ordering this dish as the guests were craving local meat skewers aka Satay.

Taman Selera West Coast

We had 10 Sticks of Chicken and 10 Sticks of Mutton. They were well-marinated and barbecued, tasty! Each Satay costs $0.90 and there is a minimum order of 10 pieces.

Restoran Perling 81 - Zhu Zha Tang

While there are many stalls that have already closed for the day, I'm quite lucky to have the last bowl of Kway Teow Soup from the Mixed Pig Offal Soup Stall from REstoran Perling 81.

Stall of Zhu Zha Tang

There are quite a number of dishes on the menu but the stall owner told me that they only left with Kway Teow Soup. The bowl of Kway Teow Soup had a homely taste that warms up the tummy. It had a variety of mixed pig's livers, lean meat, minced meat and stomach.

Kway Teow Soup - RM 7.50

Thin slices of bitter gourd were part of the ingredients too. The Kway Teow used was the typical Kway Teow Kia that we find in most Malaysian cuisine. The soup was sweet and tasty.

Milk Doughnuts are available from 0830 Hrs Onwards and are freshly made and best consumed within the day of purchase. They offer a good range of flavours. We had their Kani Cream and Oolong Donut.

Milk Doughnuts

The doughnuts were savoury and savoury. A bit crispy with crumbs on the outside with soft and chewy interior. It was served hot which makes the experience better. Kani Cream was made up of Blue Swimmer Crab, Kani Stick, Sweet Corn and Cream Bechamel while the Oolong Donut cream was fragrant and light, just like the tea itself.

Kani Cream & Oolong Donut - $6.50 Each

We had Matcha Latte and Black Coffee with the Milk Donuts.

Matcha Latte & Black Coffee - $7 & $5

Honeycomb Latte was delightful. The latte was good, topped with pieces of honeycomb. It has a good balance of coffee aroma and acidity.

Hojicha Latte & Honeycomb Latte- $7 & $7.50 (Cold)

We had their outlet exclusive Salted Egg Tater Tots. It was also a new item on their menu.

Salted Egg Tater Tots - $12

These Crispy Fried Tater Tots or Mini Hash Browns were drizzled with their Homemade Salted Egg Yolk Sauce and topped with Cereals and curry leaves.

Tater Tots Aka Hash Brown

All their Sandos are freshly breaded, and prepared and contain Mayonnaise.  Whisky BBQ Katsu Sando is also their outlet-exclusive item. The Sando is stomach-filling. This Freshly Breaded Chicken Katsu was large, spread with Suntory Whiskey BBQ Sauce, Melted Cheddar, and Apple Slaw sandwiched by Japanese Milk Bread.

Whisky BBQ Katsu Sando - $18

When I saw the menu, I can took my eyes away from the word "Wagyu" and had ordered this Sando. Their Wagyu Hamburg Beef Patty was homemade and made up of minced meat. It came with caramelised sweet onion Jam, American Cheddar and Japanese Milk Bread.

Wagyu Hamburg Gyu Sando - $28

I prefer the Wagyu Hamburg Gyu Sando compared to the Whisky BBQ Katsu Sando. Do take note the visiting time as some items on the menu are only available after a certain time.

The Hare

"The Hare" is located in Geylang. Being both pub and restaurant, The Hare is known for its cozy atmosphere and a wide selection of drinks and food. The Hare is relatively new and its a local Tapas Hotspot by Chef Daniel Koh.

The Hare

Oysters

Oysters were served in a plate of 6 with grilled Mentaiko. The presentation scores with its attractive colorful combinations of Orange Mentaiko, Yellow Lemon and green garnishing.

Grilled Mentaiko Oysters - $35 / 6 PCS

I’m amplifying the flavour of my oysters by squeezing some lemon juice over them. These plump and juicy oysters were fresh and went well with the swirls of grilled mentaiko.

Squeezing some Lemon Juice

Skewers By The Stick

We were in the mood for skewers and ordered the Three Musketeers that comprise of Brocolli, Shitake & Abalone Mushroom, Duo-Colour Squash). The taste was decent except that there was a tad too much salt on the brocolli.

On top of that, we ordered Isoyaki Abalone. It was juicy and yummy.

Three Musketeers + Isoyaki Abalone - $6 + $12

Mains

We ordered the Rib Eye Steak with medium doneness. Pairing our steak with brown sauce and a side as mashed potato. The meat was rich in flavours and tender with a pink center. Juicy is the word and the marbling meat add a depth to the flavours. The well prepared steak was topped with red peppercorns delivering a satisfying dining experience.

Rib Eye Steak (220G) - $34

In addition, the provided red wine sauce elevates the dish, pushing up the level of savouriness in the dish. What an indulgence!

Pink Center

With the Rose Wine Lamb Shank as a recommendation on their Menu, I ordered this dish. The Lamb Shank was succulent and well soaked up in its Rose Wine Sauce beautifully topped with Salsa. It was a harmonious union of sweet rose wine with tender lamb meat.

Rose Wine Lamb Shank - $24

Bone falling meat and fork tender lamb shank. The moisture and juiciness had been well retained while the meat undergone the braising process. The lamb had absorb the braising gravy well and yes to this dish!
