Char & Stewed Kitchen [Media Invite]

It was a pleasant sight to observe that Industrial Canteen is still bustling at night. Let's check out what is cooking there?

Char Stew Kitchen offers food in a unique style, they adopt the traditional use of charcoal cook method to bring out the natural flavours of the food. And the interesting part is that they are not the ones who are watching over the fire but the diners themselves.

Enjoy a good gathering session over the open flame, making communal meal more appealing and interactive. Enjoy these Charcoal Hotpot with their popular Herbal soups in earthen clay pots. They have chicken, beef and even pig's stomach soup in their menu. Let's check it out here.

At Work

I often hear about Durian in the meal and was wondering what it tastes like. Now that I finally have the chance, I would comment that Durian in the soup actually helps in enhancing the taste and surprisingly, there is no overpowering of durian taste!

Durian Coconut & Chicken Charcoal Hotpot - $38 (Small)

The soup has a good natural sweetness from the chicken bones, carrot, dates and goji berries. Cabbages and a mixture of Chinese herbs had also taken their roles in creating pleasant sweetness in the pot. The D24 durian had added a subtle durian fragrance to our hotpot too!

Durian in the Pot

Are you game to try this bowl of Durian Coconut & Chicken Charcoal soup?

Durian Soup, anyone?

The Herbal Chicken Charcoal Soup was generally filled with Goji Berries, spring onions, a mixture of Chinese herbs (Chinese Barley, chinese yam etc) as well as chicken meat. The soup does taste good too and this style suits me.

Chicken Wing with Herbs

We refilled our pots with their Peppery Chicken & Pig Stomach Broth. It was pretty peppery but addictive. No worries as you can still taste the mixture of herbs that make up the nourishing soup too. If you are also a soup lover, you will not want to miss this out.

Refilling Soup

Let's make the soup more tasty and healthier with the greens!

Vegetables

Let's put this into the pot!

Vegetables

Pick your favourite skewers from their chiller and get your hands moving! The skewers cost $1 each and there is a minimum order of 15 sticks.

Picked from the Chiller

They are popular for their skewers pricing. Regardless of vegetables or meat, the price remains at $1. The owner stands firm on not marking up their prices.

Skewers over Charcoal

Oil and sauce were given to us to grease and enhance the flavour of the food. Do watch over the fire!

What's Barbequing?

Food cook by Charcoal is generally much tastier. We had a good time here! Looking at the price list, the cost is quite affordable too. However, be prepared to smell smoke when you are there.

Fuji Japanese Restaurant (Terminal 21)

Our impromptu dinner ended up in Fuji Japanese Restaurant which is about 5 minutes walk away from our hotel.

We were simply spoilt of choices for there are too many eateries around. We decided on Fuji Japanese Restaurant after a few failed attempts to enter other restaurants for the queue was either too long or there were no available seatings.

Menu of Fuji Japanese Restaurant

The heaty day in Pattaya gave us more reasons to order the fruit frost and here we go, we had the Watermelon, Pineapple and Passion Fruit Frost.

Watermelon, Pineapple and Passion Fruit Frost

The Gindara Set can be served in Teriyaki Sauce or Shioyaki sauce. The set comes with rice, kimchi, miso soup, Gindara with Teriyaki as well as a Beancurd side. It gave me a surprise with kimchi in my meal as I thought we were having Japanese Cuisine. Afterall, it was my first experience where Japanese Restaurant serves kimchi.

Gindara Set - 770 Baht

The Gindara was yummy in its Teriyaki Sauce. The dish was accompanied by pickles as well as greens.

My dining pal had the Tempura set that consisted of Ebi, seaweed and other assortments of vegetables.
It came with a dollop of white radish and tempura dipping sauce.

Tempura Set - 190 Baht

Another one of us had the Tonkatsu set, the taste was ordinary with a thin layer of breaded crispy skin and juicy meat.

Salmon Sashimi was served with 5 slices on a plate. The slices were striking orange in colour and served with lime, wasabi and shredded radish etc.

Salmon Sashimi 三文鱼刺身 - 330 Baht

If you ask me why there are so many salmon dishes, I think my pal had been salmon too much back home. This Alsaka Salmon Roll comes in either 3 / 6 pieces order and each was decorated with a dollop of mayonnaise and fish roe.

Alsaka Salmon Roll - 280 Baht (6 Pcs)

The Aburi Salmon was what I like most out of the 3 salmon dishes order as they tasted more flavourful with the use of sauce and in its hints of charred Aburi taste.

Aburi Salmon Nigiri 烤三文鱼握寿司 - 150 Baht

After having Fuji Japanese Food, I'm kind of missing my kind of Japanese eatery dishes in Singapore.

White House Kopi Sunway Big Box

White House Kopi was one of our stopping points during our visit to Johor. We were there to check out the Sunway Big Box after breakfast and decided to have our tea time there. The environment was relatively new and spacious.

Menu

White House Kopi is represented by a cute little bee icon. They do not serve pork or lard.

Toast with peanut butter topped with slices of banana tasted good.

While there are only 4 Hot & Cold Desserts available in the menu, we had them all ordered. While we were all sweating profusely, such chilling bowls of desserts were good choices. The bowl of Longan Sea Coconut was served with ice cubes and consisted of white fungus, longan and sea coconut.

Longan Sea Coconut 龙眼海底椰糖水 - RM 6.80

The weather was so hot that the bowl of Cincau Longan Ice was not enough to cool us down. However, it still aid us a little. The sweet dessert was cooling and refreshing.

Cincau Longan Ice 仙草龙眼冰 - RM 6.80

Gingko nuts with dried longan were not too sweet and good to beat the heat.

Longan Gingko 龙岩白果糖水 - RM 6.80

If you enjoy Peach Raisin, they do have it too with Longan.

We were still feeling quite hot and thirsty after the bowl of dessert, thus a glass of coffee with Gula Melaka was ordered.

Kopi

While it has a good environment with friendly staff, I believe that we will be back again for their beverages, if not their food.
