Waa Cow

Vicocity's newsletter recently landed in my mailbox mentioning the newly opened stores at Level 1 and the name of "Waa Cow" caught my attention. In fact, the outlet in Vicocity is their New Flagship with Family-centric Menu

Waa Cow in Vivocity

Our meal started off with Chawanmushi. We ordered the one with Yuzu flavour and no doubt it has a slight Yuzu fragrance. The Chawanmushi was wobbly and smooth, however, I still find that its lacking a good taste where we can normally find in the sushi place.

Yuzu Chawanmushi - $5.40

The sashimi grade Hokkaido scallops were torched and topped with Mentaiko as well as spring onions. The texture was slimy and overall quite average for us.

Hokkaido Scallops - $15.90

The Original Wagyu Beef bowl was topped with an additional Onsen Egg at another $1.50. The Wagyu Beef was cooked sous-vide for 24 hours, with a golden brown color and served on a bed of rice with a soy-based beef sauce made in house.

Original Wagyu Beef with additional Onsen Egg - $24.40

The beef was tender and well-marbled while The 62 °C eggs were simply addictive.

Wagyu Beef

Waa Cow's signature Wagyu beef is torched with their special beef sauce, drizzled with house-made Mentaiko Mayonnaise, a 62 °C egg, and a soy-based beef sauce made in-house. This yummy Mentaiko Wagyu Beef was served on a bed of rice.

Mentaiko Wagyu Beef - $24.90

The quality of our meals was good and I will like to be back for their Charashi Bowls.

JJ Sarawak Noodle

As I stepped into Taman Jurong Food Center again, its hard to decide what to eat for there are simply too many choices of good food. Finally, I decided to order from JJ Sarawak Noodle for I had not consumed Kolo Mee For a long time.

JJ Sarawak Noodle

They offer Sarawak Noodle, Kway Teow or Bee Tai Mak in Soup or Dry form, besides that they do have Sarawak Laksa as the main dish.

Unlike the style of Sarawak Noodle Stall, JJ's served their bowl of Noodles with a large piece of fried Wanton Skin. The Dry version of the noodle comes with a bowl of soup.

Sarawak Noodle 砂劳越面 (干)- $4.50 (Dry)

The ingredients were standard: Char Siew, Minced Meat and Wanton with Noodles topped with Spring Onions.

Close-up of Sarawak Noodle

The Sarawak Noodle is tossed in a sweet sauce with sweet-coated char siew meat. Noodles were springy and cradle a hint of aroma used from its condiments.

Mr Pig

After the Renovation of Young Sin Restaurant, my favourite Kway Teow soup stall no longer exist. However, the newly renovated coffee shop welcomes a new stall name "Mr Pig". Mr Pig offers a good variety of items on their menu, featuring Kway Chap and Pig Organ Soup.

Mr Pig

They do have Congee and Handmade Noodles on the menu too.

Menu

While renovating of coffeeshop has been seen as a trend in the neighbourhood lately, they have also installed some fanciful neon lights with some Chinese quotes to liven up the atmosphere.

On the walls

I'm here for this! No doubt that it's $5, their ingredients were generous and the soup base was appetizing.  The organs were well prepared without any gamey taste. Ingredients include liver, lean meat, pork belly, stomach, meatball, tomato and preserved vegetables.

Pig Organ Soup - $5

The Kway Chap Set comes with a bowl of Kway and a plate of well-braised pig offals with braised egg and Tau Pok. The intestines were well clean and the braised style was simple.

Kway Chap Set - $5.80

We have the Pig Stomach Soup with an additional bowl of white rice at $0.80. The stomach was tender and cooked together with tomatoes, tofu and preserved vegetables. The fried shallots enhanced the taste of the soup too.

Pig Stomach Soup - $5.50

The braised pork belly rice was not too bad. It has its savoury sauce drenched on the meat and good pairing with the bowl of plain rice as well as braised eggs. Preserved vegetables were included too. I dare to say that this bowl of braised pork belly rice is better than the recent Taiwanese place I visited.

Braised Pork Belly Rice - $5.50

They are my preferred Pig Organ Soup Stall to visit if I'm in Bukit Batok Vinicity. I will very much like to return for their congee and other dishes.

Ye Tang Chendol

While there are not many dessert stalls in Beauty World Hawker Center, you may want to look out for Ye Tang which is located at the extreme corner of the hawker center. Ye Tang generally specializes in selling authentic chendol and nothing else on their menu.

Ye Tang Chendol

Besides the classic bowl of Chendol, there are other choices with Durian, Creamy Corn or Red Beans.

Types of Chendol Available

I was told that the Original Chendol does not come with Red Bean, therefore I had my bowl of Chendol topped up with these big red beans. The sweetness level was adequate without being too cloying and the coconut jelly was refreshing too.

Red Bean Chendol - $2.50

We ordered the Creamy Corn Chendol, although the colours may be a little lacking but they tasted as good.

Creamy Corn Chendol - $2.50

Overall, I find that the bowls of Chendol can be a very good choice for after-meal desserts especially when the weather is hot.

Western Barbeque

While the friend has the strongest craving for his childhood favourite Western Food in Old Airport Food Center, we headed down to this ever-popular Garlic Sauce Western Barbeque Stall.

Western Barbeque

We were given 2 pieces of Pork ladled with their signature sweet savoury garlic sauce over this tender meat. The main was paired with fries, coleslaw and a small packet of old school cream bun. This kind of serving was rather unique and perhaps one of its kind in Singapore. The coleslaw tasted average and I would prefer if the cabbages were not shredded to such a fine texture.

Pork Chop - $7

Similarly, the chicken chop was slathered with the ever-signature garlic sauce. The BBQ slab of Chicken soup was absolutely tender and succulent in its charred taste. The sauce enhanced the taste of the meat.

Chicken Chop - $7

The nostalgic taste and unpretentious old-school Western Food is just simply the best in their sauce. Do head down to Western Barbeque if you have not tried it.

Dan's Steaks

Recently I passed by Dan's Steaks in Greenwood and came to know its Story of it. Dan's Steaks came about during the circuit breaker period

Dan's Steaks

My friend and I started off our meal by ordering 2 cups of Honey Lemon for our meal.

Honey Lemon - $5 / Cup

The scallops they used are Sashimi grade and were served in a small saucer in yummy miso garlic butter sauce. It was served with sourdough too.

Pan Sear Hokkaido Scallops - $32

We had Dan's house cut and each cut comes with one side of choice. They recommend medium rare to medium for their cuts.

The Wagyu Hanger Tender Onglet is Dan's Signature steak. Love the juicy and charred taste of the meat. For the side, we ordered pan-roasted mushrooms which comprise a trio of mushrooms with white wine, balsamic and garlic.

Wagyu Hanger Tender Onglet (220-240G) - $46

The slab of ribeye was paired with red wine bordelaise and we simply love its taste as well as texture. We were recommended the Amazing Frizzled Cauliflower as its side. The cauliflower looks interesting and was prepared with caper and beurre noisette.

NZ Riverlands Black Angus Ribeye 280g - $42

We ended our meal with savoury and rich chocolate brownies. It was paired with vanilla ice cream and pecan.

Double Chocolate Brownie - $11

Da Ma Kway Tiao Soup 大马粿条汤

While walking around the hawker centre in Beauty World, I notice that there are a number of stalls I have not patronize and one of them is Da Ma Kway Tiao Soup. Thus, I decided to give it a try.

Da Ma Kway Tiao Soup 大马粿条汤

Having been to Malaysia quite often nowadays, I must agree that Kway Tiao Soup is pretty common there. The bowl of Kway Tiao soup seems pretty normal to me with ingredients like pork liver, meatballs, fishcake, vegetables and beansprouts. The bowl of Kway Tiao was topped with some crispy fried pork lard, enhancing the taste.

Kway Tiao Soup - $5.50
