Shiro-Yuki Dessert Cafe (Johor Bahru)

Flipping through the Soda with fruits from their menu, we decided to order them. These glasses of soda are served with reusable straws which I find that it's a good initiative.

My friend loves the Apple Mint Soda because it gave her a refreshing taste but I find it otherwise. I will prefer the Roses Lychee Soda for it tasted more refreshing to me.

Enjoy the cup of Passion Mango Soda topped with Mango Cubes.

We had also ordered the strawberry soda that was topped with chopped strawberry bits.

While I'm done with the Soda drinks on the menu, I decided to try out their Royal Thai Tea Boba. The Boba are chewy and not too sweet. Love the Thai Tea flavours.

We love the soft buns and the succulent Ebi Cutlet with vegetables, cheese and Mayonaise. The taste was savoury and addictive.

Ebi Mayo Burger - RM 20.80

The Cheezu Chicki Burger Meal comes with a glass of Ice Lemon Tea. The preparation of the burger was similar to the Ebi Mayo Burger. Both Meals are served with french fries.

Cheezu Chiki Burger - RM 18.80

One of us was attracted to the Blueberry Cheesecake in the fridge. Topped with Blueberries fruits and with a biscuit base.

We were glad that the wait was finally over. We have been waiting for the appearance of Honeydew Melon Bingsu ever since we first visited the place and were told that it is seasonal.

Honeydew Melon Bingsu - RM 36.90

The Bingsu was beautifully served in half portion of melon with Honey Dew Balls and Honeydew Melon soft-serve topped with almond flakes. With Nata De Coco and pannacotta at the base of the Bingsu's coupled with the sweet condensed milk, it makes having the Honeydew Melon Bingsu experience so enjoyable.

Sumo Platter is good for sharing with popcorn chicken, regular fries, potato wedges and curly fries. Dipped them into the mayo, nacho cheese or chilli sauce given.

Sumo Platter - RM 27.90

Taro lovers cannot be missing their Taro Kakigori out!

Taro Kakigori - RM 22.90

The Chizu Peach Kakigori was fantastic. We all love the velvety pieces of cake found on the ice. The cheese sauce over the ice was yummy and for what you know, there are digestive biscuits crumbs among the ice, giving the Kakigori a riots of texture.

Chizu-Peach Kakigori - RM 23.90

The seafood Tom Yam Spaghetti was yummy! Love the creamy taste coated over the spaghetti! The lemongrass and spices' fragrance had also lifted up this dish.

Seafood Tom Yam Spaghetti - RM 21.80

A neat presentation of Japanese Katsu Curry Rice with a distinctive separation of curry from white rice.
The spicy level of the curry was moderate and Chicken Katsu was crispy.

Japanese Katsu Curry Rice - RM 41.60

If you prefer a non-curry and non-fried version, you can order their Japanese Teriyaki Rice.

Japanese Teriyaki Rice - RM 18.60

Softserve with their classic Salted Caramel popcorn.

Salted Caramel Softserve

The Strawberry Milkshake Soft Serve come with a few slices of strawberries and a Lotus Biscoff Biscuit. It was not to our liking as we were expecting the Soft Serve to taste on the sweet side instead of being sour. Since this is also a seasonal item on their menu, we are looking forward to the next season's item.

We were back at Shiro-Yuki Dessert Cafe before heading back to customs. Ushering the Lunar New Year in 2023, they come out with 3 kinds of different items on the menu and we were eager to have them.

The creative Wonder Melon Soft Serve was aesthetically pretty to our eyes. The watermelon was adorned with button chocolates on its fresh to illustrate its seed. While a cut in the middle portion was topped with chilling and not too sweet watermelon flavoured soft serve.

Wonder Melon Soft Serve

While in the Chinese tradition, we won't miss out on pineapple for they represent good fortune. Their Ong Ong Lai Kakigori was good with sweetened pineapple cubes topping on the tip of the iceberg. Sweet and savoury with the pineapple syrup drenching over the Kakigori.

Ong Ong Lai Kakigori

Last but not least, the Golden Fortune Hotpot that filled with peach, pineapple, watermelon, and lychee as well as some Pannacotta bits topped off with their signature milky shaved ice.

Pour the water over the pot and have some Instagram-worthy pictures and reels. Enjoy the rapid smoke from the dry ice.

Dry Ice Effect

We could not wait any longer for this pot was simply filled with an assortment of fruits.

Yummy fruits pot

While they have seasonal menu, I cannot wait for their next new item on their menu.

When the place is quiet and cosy, we made this another stop before heading back to Singapore. The place was already decorated and ready in the Christmas mood with additional on the menu and Christmas decorations around.

In the festive mood, they have a few more items, especially for Christmas.  They offered waffles with delectable dark chocolate and a scoop of mint chocolate ice cream, topped with mixed berries, chocolate sauce and a yummy strawberry milkshake soft-serve.

Ho Ho Holiday Waffle - RM 20.90

The Chizu Chicki Burger set comes with a cup of lemon tea together with a burger and fries. It was creamy with its sauce and a decent meal. The buns had chicken patty, lettuce and tomatoes decking it up.

Chizu Chicki Burger Set - RM 18.90

The refreshing lemon tea was served with a slice of lemon among the ice cubes and glass straw was also provided.

The Soft Serve was made up of Yakult and was refreshing with chocolate shavings and some berry sauce over it, looking like a little Christmas tree.

The last stopover before heading back to the customs landed us in Shiro-Yuki Dessert Cafe. The Cafe was situated in a bungalow and it is pretty impressive that a beautiful cafe is housed within therefore parking is no issue over there.

The Interior was vibrant and the environment was quiet.

Enjoy the seasonal treat of Watermelon Bingsu. The milk-based ice is paired with Lychee, and Nata Decoco and well adorned by these striking red colours of watermelon balls. It's a perfect bowl of dessert to beat the summer heat.

There are 2 sizes for the Kakigori, the regular and the baby size. We had the Baby Matcha Kakigori. It was made up of Milk Ice, Matcha Powder, Azuki Red Beans, Boba Pearls and Boba Jelly. The Matcha Powder was used unsparingly on the Ice, resulting in a bitter taste and the Azuki bean was on the tough side ~ I would prefer it to be cooked to soften. Nonetheless, the combination of Boba Pearls and Jelly added additional texture to the cooling Milk Ice.

Baby Matcha Kakigori

I'm not so much of Coconut Milk Lover but if you do, the coconut Milk Ice is fragrant and coupled with Fresh Coconut Meat, chewy mochi as well as some savoury gula Melaka sauce.

Since they are also serving soft serve and other cafe food, it makes every reason to be back for other things as they are a stone's throw away from the CIQ.

Rumah Sayang

Rumah Sayang is known for its delicious Nasi Padang and wok dishes. It's a brainchild of the team behind Red Ginger. Every time, without fail, the place is packed with patrons during peak hours.

Rumah Sayang

The interior was laid with checkered tiles and was bright. The environment was spacious and the settings were comfortable.

A good old school taste we found from a bowl of Mee Rebus and what more, they offered Mee Rebus with Satay. What a perfect match.

Satay Mee Rebus with Additional Begedil - $6.70 + $1.30

Begedeil Lontong was not bad. The warm and aromatic dish was filling the stomach. What a delightful meal.

Big Bowl Ice

We were looking for some cool desserts on Johor Bahru's public holiday and were glad that we found Big Bowl Ice.

Their Menu was very extensive with Shaved Ice, Snow Ice, Fruits Plate, snack, grass jelly, pudding, beverages, waffles and spaghetti. To our surprise, Big Bowl Ice offers a dessert bowl that is 30 times that is almost my vanity basin size! The Big Bowl Ice can be shared by a big family or friends.

Big Bowl Ice

We were simply spoilt for choices for they have many variations for their fruits on Ice Dessert.  Desserts are no doubt cool and refreshing, relieving us from thirst and heat. The shaved Ice is made up of Milk Snow. It was velvety and soft with fresh mangoes and lychees.

Milk Snow Ice with Mangoes + Lychee - RM 16.30

We had the Milk Snow Ice with refreshing Watermelon & Longan. The taste is fine and the texture is smooth, melting in our mouth in seconds.

Milk Snow Ice with Watermelon & Longan - RM 14.90

I thought the Papaya Snow Ice with mangoes & Longan is something that I never had in Singapore. The Snow Ice was made up of Papaya flavour and boy, it was so refreshing. The longan and mangoes with the savoury sauce were simply heavenly!

Papaya Snow Ice With mangoes & Longan - RM 15.40

We wished we had more but the individual portion was so generous that I guess we have to make a return trip again!

Oriental Rojak

Nothing beats comfort food like this. Yes! I'm back again for this as long as I stepped into Taman Jurong Hawker Center. I'm pretty glad that we are in time this round and that items were still available for us. Prices of individual items are clearly stated on the menu and let's dig it!

Rojak

Posted on 02 February 2023

Oriental Rojak is one of my favourite Rojak stalls in the Western part of Singapore. Not only that, they have been my childhood favourite all these while from the old Taman Jurong Hawker Center till the current location. The stall was manned by a couple.

Oriental Rojak

Rojak was sold out during my last visit and we decided to order "You Tiao" aka fried fritters and other items on the plate.

BBQ-ing the Tau Pok

We had century eggs, Tau Pok and You Tiao, our own kind of Rojak making away with the conventional style of Rojak. It was satisfying to my stomach and I enjoyed the taste of the Century Eggs pairing up with slices of preserved ginger.

Our Rojak

Posted on 8th October 2014

This is one of my favourite rojak stalls since 12 years ago when Taman Jurong Market was located else where. This particular stall sells only Rojak and nothing else - Specialized!

We can order a plate of rojak at $2.50, $3 , $4 or $5 depending on individual preference. I have order a $4 portion with 2 tau pork with fillings ($0.80 each) sums up to $5.60. What I like most from this rojak is that Tau pok and you tiao are all toasted before serving the customers.

Dried Cuttlefish can be added at additional costs.

Chin Lee Restaurant

Through word of mouth, Chin Lee Restaurant is reputable for its authentic Teochew Cuisine and has been well-liked by the elders. A modern-looking Facade but gives a good touch of old-school charm with its Chinese wording signboard and round table with elegant table covers remind me back into those days when Wedding dinners held in such restaurant is very common.

The age group of their customers are rather obvious and often in groups with the elderly. As it was a weekend, the tables were mostly occupied by families with grandparents.

The patrons seems very well versed with their menu and most of them knew the dishes to ordered off hand without even looking into the menu book.

If you are a follower of Teochew Pig Trotter Jelly, I'm sure that you are aware that not many places in Singapore offer this dish. The dish was chilled and paired with pickles as well as chilli.

The coffee Pork Ribs dish is also one of the chef's recommendations. Uniquely wrapped in foiled and topped with almond flakes. The Coffee taste was pleasant and not overpowering. In fact, having these ribs was quite addictive.

These Homemade Teochew Prawn Balls are also one of the all-time favourites on the menu. The deep-fried prawn balls are filled with prawn paste and minced meat, then wrapped together in beancurd skin. Pairing these deep-fried balls with the sweet dipping sauce enhanced the flavours.

Thin slices of tender braised duck paired with Tau Gua and soaked in the generous amount of savoury sweet gravy made the Braised Duck dish irresistible especially when the gravy was not salty and goes well with our bowls of rice.

The Asparagus was cut into smaller pieces and stir-fried together with braised mushrooms. The sauce was delicious and Asapargus was crunchy.

The Chai Poh Kway Teow is a classic dish to order when you are at Chin Lee. It was stirred-fried with garlic, Chai Poh as well as kailan. The "Wok Hei" on the flat noodles with the sweet and salty Chai Poh adds additional crunch. The dish is served like a pancake which I thought is rather unique.

Here's another dish under their Chef Gourmet Recommendation. The Teochew Crispy Pig Trotter undergoes braised before being deep fried. The skin was crackling crispy while the meat and fats had well-maintained moisture. The meat was juicy and tasted great.

Teochew Crispy Pig Trotter 潮州炸猪脚
Teochew Crispy Pig Trotter 潮州炸猪脚 - $20 (Medium)

The Teochew Cuisine is only completed with this traditional Teochew Dessert. The yam paste has a luscious texture and is topped with pumpkin and ginkgo nuts with a layer of water chestnut starch. The taste was not sweet and thus popular from young to old.

Teochew Yam Paste & Pumpkin served with Gingko Nuts 金瓜白果芋泥
Teochew Yam Paste & Pumpkin served with Gingko Nuts 金瓜白果芋泥 - $5.50

Despite its location under a HDB block, Chin Lee Restaurant is always bustling with people. The authenticity of traditional Teochew Cuisine in the heartlands is something I'm looking forward to. There are still quite a number of dishes that I would like to try like their Oysters Omelette as well as their Steamed Pomfret. To be honest, I will like to be back there again soon.
