Cheesy Snow Peach Oolong was cooling and fragrant with fruity flavours. The combination of sweet fruitiness with a tad of saltiness from the layer of cheese was simply fantastic.

While the Honey Milk Tea has sweet flavours from the honey and fragrance from the tea.

What a good idea to have an ice cream kiosk over at the petrol station! It is so tempting especially when there are some unique flavours you won't usually get outside.

Looking at the waffle and cone biscuits machine, it's hard not to grab some ice cream from the kiosk. The cone biscuits and waffles are made in-house. I opted for my ice cream on Waffle and observed my freshly made waffle.

Ta-Da...
The Butterfly Pea Vanilla Waffle looks so pretty with some pearls topping. Ice cream sweetness was up to our expectations and Waffle was worth the wait. It is crusty on the outside and soft as you sink your teeth in. Coupled with the chewiness from the pearls and cooling ice cream, it satiated my craving for dessert.

It gives us another reason to go to the petrol station for the yummy treats.

Chia Keng Fried Hokkien Mee

The plate of old-school Fried Hokkien Mee from Chomp Chomp Food Centre has highly raved. If you prefer the old-school style with a combination of yellow noodles with Bee Hoon and a wetter, creamy gravy, Chia Keng Fried Hokkien Mee might fit you.

The plate of Hokkien Mee had distinct Wok Hei and prawny flavours. Not only was the plate of HKM old school, the chilli is also distinctly powerful.

Mr Tan who is in his 70s is seen sitting on a high chair frying the Hokkien Mee. During peak hours, this plate of traditional Hokkien Mee may demand up to a wait of 45 minutes.

Bami Express

During the last round, while I was at the plaza visiting Chef Yamashita, I noticed the long queue lining up along the corridor and thus I made a return trip especially to visit Bami Express.

A closer look into the stall made us realise that the baguettes were actually freshly baked in the store and the big bags of baguettes on the rack are for distribution to several Vietnamese restaurants in Singapore.

The crackly crusty baguette was filled with Pate, Pork ham, stew pork and chicken floss.

Apart from the main ingredients stuffed in, every baguette includes a medley of vegetables with sweet and pickled carrots, daikon radish, sliced cucumbers and freshly chopped cilantro. The combination makes having a baguette a healthy and flavourful one.

For a stronger flavour, you may want to get the Bami BBQ chicken. It has a distinct lemon grass flavour with grilled chicken and chicken floss.

The chicken is tender and had smokey flavours. The sauce also complimented the ingredients well.

Yummy!

I'm actually very satisfied with what I had despite the distance travelled and braving the rainy weather there on the day of visit. I will very much want to have Banh Mi again if I'm in that area.

Hainanese Scissors Curry Rice

Updated 13th October 2022

When the food is good, we often make a return despite the distance travelled. No doubt that queuing in line of Hainanese Scissors Curry Rice always cause anxiety (we always afraid that the pax in the front queue wipes up everything), we still make a trip down.

We tends to order more items for their food is really yummy and the items seems to be slightly different base on the batches and timing they cooked.

The prawns were also cooked fresh from the wok at the point of my turn in queue. Though it was a tad over brown, these prawns were still succulent and non greasy.

The Pork Chop is the quintessential item for Hainanese Scissors Curry Rice and I was rather worried that it ran out during my turn. Luckily, the pork chop slices were topped up and I got them fresh from the oil wok. It ended up as being lucky as we were able to grab some freshly cook item. The breaded Pork Chop were thin and crispy, fragrant too.

Luncheon Meat was cut into rectangular shapes and cooked in combination of mixed beans as well as yellow onions. The taste reminds us of home cooked dishes.

The fried eggs were topped up occasionally and these are one of the items that I'm not afraid that it will be run out while I'm in the queue.

Braised vegetables are also another items not to be missed. The soft texture and sweet tasting

We had the Curry Chicken too. We were given both wings and drumlets. In fact, it was the same curry gravy we had on our rice. The meat was tender too.

The hawker is not only friendly but generous too. They took the initiative to ask us if the gravy was enough and do not mind drenching more sauce onto the rice. The love language between the duo was cute, the lady will tell the guy "rice wet wet" translated in Chinese to indicate more sauce is needed.

We will be back again soon. :)

This Hainanese Scissors Curry Rice is one of the popular stalls in Telok Blangah Drive that attracts a lengthy queue during peak hours. Many times when I visited the place, we were contemplating if to order their food as many of the dishes were already low on quantity.

Just this time off, the curious me decided to give it a try even though the dishes left were not of too many choices. To my surprise, the lady who is taking the order was friendly and easy-going, my orders were quickly taken and dishes were placed on individual plates.

We ordered 5 dishes with 2 plates of rice and were given some Belachan chilli. The texture of the rice was better than the last Hainanese Scissors Curry Rice we had for it was firm and was drenched with a mix of curry as well as braised gravy.

The Braised Pork belly was thinly sliced and the flavours were adequate to pair along with our plate of rice.

The taste was distinctive and packed with hints of herbal taste.

Pork Chop is always my staple dish to order whenever it comes to Hainanese Curry Rice. The pork chop was thin and breaded on both sides.

In terms of texture, it was good and it has a little peppery taste which makes this side dish perfect even having this as a snack alone.

Another dish that I will not miss out on will be braised vegetables. It was braised to soften and comes with a sweet-tasting gravy.

The fried eggs on the shelves were already running low and the lady has to multitask in taking orders and at the same time replenishing the eggs.

We literally order the items that they have on the shelves and we even had these french beans with minced meat. It was not quite common we have this dish from the Hainanese food stall but I would say its pretty tasty too.

For the price that we are paying, this Hainanese Scissors Curry Rice is competitive and worth the amount paid. Even though its from a Hawker, the way that they rendered the service was above average.

Hai Nan Hometown Curry

As we walked past the last stall of the row of hawker stalls, this curry rice stall caught our attention.

Hai Nan Hometown Curry
Hai Nan Hometown Curry

Items like Pork Chop, Chicken Cutlet, Tempura Prawns and Fish Fillet were all fried upon order, this give the diners an assurance that its fresh to eat and for me, I always like to have my food hot upon serving.

The Pork Chop was breaded and fragrant. Meat thickness and the cuts were uniform. The Curry Pork Chop Rice came with some softened potato chunks too. Curry gravy on the other hand was on the starchy side and was disappointing without having the curry spice/lemon grass fragrance that we are looking for.

We took up Value Set A which is the Chicken Wing Set. We were given drumlets, curry vegetables, boiled potatoes and half a hard-boiled egg with a generous amount of curry.

With a purchase of Main dishes, we get to enjoy the side dishes at an additional price. The Curry Vegetables is a version of Sayur Lodeh which contains a lighter taste in curry.

The curry lacks the flavour and depth that we are looking for. Though it's consider decent eat, a return trip to the same stall is tough.

It's sake time and we are given a handful of cups to choose from! It has a mild elegant taste and was so refreshing drinking it cold.

It goes very well on its own as well as with food pairing. It tastes clean, and light and showcases the soft sweetness of rice with a fragrant melon aroma. These attract me.

Stamford Catering [Media Drop]

Stamford Catering has over 20 years of catering experience and is a leading Halal Certified caterer that provides customers with top-quality food and services. They provide an extensive and innovative menu, priced competitively, suitable for diverse groups of the household as well as corporate customers. They have catered to mass events like Youth Olympic Games, StandChart Marathon, OCBC Cycle, 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games etc. In collaboration with Korean Chef Kevin Nam from SBCD Korean Tofu House, Stamford Catering has recently rolled out the country's first-ever halal-certified Korean Buffet Spread.

Stamford Catering

The Menu is based on Korean Cuisine principles, balance, health and time, aiming to reinvigorate and reconnect in post-covid Singapore.

The Chefs, Chris Ong (Stamford Catering's Executive Chef) and Kevin Nam, put their heads together, going through extensive R & D, creating a menu in the absence of pork and adhering strictly to Singapore F&B Halal requirements from preparation to the handling of food without compromising the cuisine. They also ensure that they did not deviate from the authenticity of their menu.

Daebak Korean Party Set

All Menus feature SBCD Korean Tofu House's Signature Soon Tofu Ham & Cheese or Soon Tofu Seafood Soup. This features Halal version of the original 10 ingredients' secret recipe soup paste (known as "dadaegi" in Korean). It is identical to the original in which the broth is boiled and simmered, bringing out the accentuated flavours of the natural ingredients used.

Soon Tofu (Seafood)

Next up, the Stir-fry glass noodles ("Japchae") are Korea's must-have dish to usher the new year and their Mid-Autumn harvest festival (also known as "Chuseok"). This dish is accompanied by healthy vegetables which include, mushrooms, carrots, and greens, finished off with sesame seeds toppings.  The soft natural texture of the glass noodles goes well with the crunchiness of vegetables.

Japchae (Stir Fry Glass Noodle)

Kimchi fried rice is a popular dish in South Korea. The taste of Kimchi was not overpowering and was well balanced with the right amount of Kimchi sourness.

Kimchi Fried Rice

With sweetness coating up the Korean Crispy Fried Chicken, topped with crunchy cashew nuts and sesame seeds, I'm uttering addicted to this dish and could not resist popping them into my mouth.

Dakgangjeong (Sweet Crispy Korean Fried Chicken)

Beef Bulgogi was my favourite dish and every thin slice of meat was evenly marinated. The tenderness was commendable and besides the marinated flavours, the caramelized onions, as well as vegetables, elevated the dish's sweetness.

Beef Bulgogi

With the rising interest in Korean food and drama in Singapore, the initiative of launching Singapore's first halal-certified Korean buffet menu is something that buffet goers will look forward to.

The Daebak Korean Buffet Spread has two menus, priced at $18 and $22 for a minimum of 30 and 25 pax, and is perfect for corporate events and office gatherings.

The Daebak Korean Party Set also has two menus, priced at $200 and $240 for a minimum of 10 pax, and is aimed at smaller gatherings and home lunch/dinner parties.
