Chef Wei HK Cheong Fun 伟少港式粉肠

Hawkers Center stalls and Coffee shops are getting more exciting this year as we kept hearing some Big Restaurant Chef stepping out of their comfort zone and doing their own business.  To name a few, this year we had already heard of a handful setting up fried rice stalls. For instance, Chef Wei of Hk Cheong Fun was Ex Chef of the Chinese restaurant chain, Peach Garden.

All Chee Cheong Fun was made to order on the spot. There are four choices on the Menu, Plain  Chee Cheong Fun at $3, Mushrooms, Char Siew Chee Cheong Fun at $4 and Shrimps Chee Cheong Fun at $5.

Mushroom Cheong Fun 港式鲜菇肠粉 - $4

The translucent rice rolls cradle stir-fried shitake and Shimeji mushrooms. The rolls were springy and smooth, drenched in the savoury sweet dark sauce with white sesame seeds toppings.

Shimeji & Shitake Mushrooms

However, the translucent rice rolls were not as soft and delicate as expected. On the contrary, the chilli is a compliment to the rice rolls.

Char Siew Cheong Fun 港式·叉烧肠粉 - $4

Personally, I find that the sweet dark sauce goes better with the Mushroom Cheong Fun rather than these Char Siew Cheong Fun as the mushrooms are on a saltier side which gives a more outstanding taste.

What are the fillings?

The translucent skin was thin and it was almost effortless to tear open to reveal the ingredients.

Chef Wei is young and ambitious, having a number of outlets on the island. In fact, he is looking to expand more.

6ixty 7even

Restaurant 67 (6ixty 7even) is strategically located at the heart of the town district alongside the heritage shophouses. They serve contemporary and modern cuisine. Currently, they are open from Monday to Saturday.

6ixty 7even

As we stepped in, the first level of the restaurant resembles the bar with hanging wine glasses displayed on the rack. However, when we stepped further in, we observed that the counter seatings are facing an open concept kitchen. This style of design and innovation excites me as we can get to see how the preparation of food is done.

Bar Counter with Open Concept Kitchen

The bar is furnished with mirrors on the wall, with reflection making the place looks brighter and bigger. Take a look at the stretch of chillers, these could tease your palates, especially for those who enjoy chilling out with alcoholic beverages. Such a place will not disappoint you for they have an extensive range of wine, whisky, sake, beers and cocktails.

First Floor Setting

Up at the Second Level, the place was adorned by plush comfortable seats, surrounded by the warm ambience from the lightings. It makes a perfect environment for a cosy meal with soft music playing in the background or perhaps a place to romance your date.

Level 2

Our meals start off with some Signature Classic drinks from their friendly bartender. Pegu Club contains gin, Cointreau and lime juice. It's pretty refreshing in citrus notes and we get to bite some berries too.

Pegu Club

I like surprises and this drink is refreshing with a sparkling feel accompanied by slice of lemon.

Special Drink from the bar

Chef Ramesh was there to helm the kitchen for our dinner. He used to work in the States at a 2 Star Michelin Restaurant. With his broad experience in the food industry and dedication to the restaurant, high-quality dishes are doled out from the kitchen in a timely manner. While 6ixty 7even is relatively new, we look forward to the interesting menu and dishes invented by himself and his new team.

Bar Bites

While Szechuan Mala is in food trend, 67 does feature their own Ma La  Bar Bites on the Menu. The Chicken Karaage was bite size and addictive especially with peppercorns as its ingredients. The bowl of food was accompanied by dried chilli, cashew nuts as well as cut spring onions. Although it was said to be Ma La (numb and spicy), we were glad that such effect was not present and the taste of Ma La did not overpower the bites. On a side note, these bites make a great pairing with beers and alcoholic beverages.

Szechuan “Ma La” Chicken Karaage - $15

Another hot item on their menu was the Truffle Fries. It is faintly reminiscent of comfort food with shredded Gruyere cheese on top of the Truffle infused fries served with Truffle Aioli. I bet you can't stop after having one.

Truffle Fries - $15

For those who enjoy watching the chef at work, the bar counters seating with the open kitchen concept is a plus point for you. I find it quite hard to take my eyes off the chef's attention on his food. His dedication, enthusiasm and passion are reflected in his professionalism. For instance, Chef Ramesh is doing the food's plating presentation, ensuring the dishes look appealing.

Mains

A slice down into the criss-cross charred Striploin with juices yielding to the knife's cut was observed. The doneness of meat was perfectly served with truffle-infused brown sauce. The slab of Grain-fed Angus Striploin was decked with dollops of mashed potatoes as well as some greens like asparagus and cherry tomatoes.

Chef Ramesh was hospitable and his culinary skills were inspiring. He ensured that every dish served is of a certain standard and he is definitely very dedicated to his work. Impressive!

The pasta was served in Al Dente Texture accompanied by seasonal Seafood such as prawns, scallops and mussels. The robust flavours of seafood had given the Aglio Olio a taste of savoriness.

Hangar66

Published on 09 December 2021

The Aviation Theme Cafe is hidden within a plane hangar. It has an interesting view of parked airplanes and runway. The cafe is tuck away in Seletar Aerospace and if you are an aviation enthusiast, it gives you every reason to be here.

Entrance of Hangar66

The spacious eatery is welcoming with aviation decoration. Planes parts were used for example as the communal table and if you sit close to the windows at the main dining area, you will get a view of the working hanger area with planes.

Helicopter Anchored at the Dining Area

Just too bad, we missed the timing to order the main courses, thus we were only there for bar bites and drinks.

Ice Chocolate & Long Black - $7.66 & $3.66

Luckily a consolation for us, the promotion on one for one Sapporo beer.

1-for-1 Sapporo - $14.66

The Onion Rings are so much better than the ones we had over at the other cafe in Seletar Aerospace. Quality stuff with real onions under the golden brown batter and what makes it best is that I have them paired with my favourite Nachos Cheese.

Fried Onion Rings - $7.66

Since it was raining during our visit, a warm bowl of soup really makes us feel better. Lobster Bisque is good and dipping the toasted garlic bread into the creamy warm bowl of crustaceans flavour soup was definitely a stomach warmer on a cold and rainy day.

Lobster Bisque - $7.66

Comparing this to the former soup, my personal preference will be the Lobster Bisque as that is more flavourful. However, this mushroom soups comes with mushroom chunks and goes well with garlic toast.

Mushroom Soup - $5.66

Fries are pretty standard with Truffle flavours and topped with cheese powder.

Truffle Fries - $8.66

Meat floss camouflaging the soft shell crab.

Soft Shell Crab - $9.66

Their signature Hangar66 chicken wings are laudable. Crispy skin and well marinated.

Hangar 66 Chicken Wings - $8.66

Comparing this cafe to the one that we have been to recently, Hangar66 variety of bar snacks and tastes way better. Food pricing is reasonable too. As much as I realised, the price of the food ends with X.66 which signifies Hangar66.

We will be back to enjoy the main courses, avoiding the bar bites hours (1430hrs - 1800hrs) as bar hours offers only bar bites, soup, salad, drinks and desserts.

2nd Visit in December 2021

We took effort and actually went back to Hangar66 for their main courses. It was not surprising that the place was packed at peak hours like this.

3 Sapporo Pints
3 Sapporo Pints - $23.66

We bought 3pints of Sapporo and was given a free sample size of their Signature Sichuan Mala Clams. Honestly, these clams complimented the beer and even though it was stated as Sichuan Mala, the spicy level are still bearable.

We ordered another bite that we did not manage to order during our first visit. The Zulu Prawn Twister is unique and resembles the wich's fingers. Not a bad choice if you want something light for bar bites.

Zulu Prawn Twister - $10.66

The mains come with 2 choices of sides to choose from,  Mixed Salad, French Fries, Sauteed Mushroom or Onion Rings. However, for Fish & Chips, they already come with fries therefore, we can only have 1 more choice of side to choose.

Fish & Chips - $14.66

It won't go wrong with the choice of sauteed mushroom as the side. The mushroom was plump and juicy, I wished we can have more.

Mushrooms

Our downwind Beef Burger main was accompanied by mixed salad as well as fried onion rings. Presentation looks good with the choices of sides and black plate as base.

Downwind Beef Burger - $18.66

The beef patty was thick and succulent. Yummy.

For the sides, you may want to skip the mixed salad and go for the mushrooms instead.

Close up of Onion Rings

Having been here twice, I find that the place is worth the price paid and reasonable.

Ji Ji Noodle House 基记面家

Ji Ji Noodle House is one of the food stalls that you must patronise if you are at Hong Lim Food Complex. This is also one of the stalls recommended by Michelin Guide.  They occupy 2 shop spaces side by side in the hawker centre with one side as storage and the other as ordering area.

2 Stalls of Ji Ji Noodle House

Even on a Saturday morning, the queue was overwhelmed. It took us about 30 minutes to get the order.

Orders

We have Fried Chicken Cutlet to share among ourselves. Frying to golden brown in its crispy skin and coated with some chilli sauce.

Fried Chicken Cutlet - $4

The meat was both juicy and tender.

There are numerous dishes on their menu and one of the popular ones will be their Signature Noodle. Their noodles are sold at 4 prices $4.50 / 5.50 / 6.50 / 8.50. The bowl of Signature noodles was generously loaded with ingredients like Char Siew Slices, minced pork, braised mushrooms, wantons, pork lard as well as greens.

Ji Ji Signature Char Siew Wanton Noodle 基记招牌叉烧云吞面 - $5.50

I was swept away by how flavourful and by its piquant taste when I had the first mouthful. It has a unique fragrant that was not commonly found in normal hawker noodles on top of those pork lard bits. Texture of the noodle is springy too.

There are a number of fried wantons as well as the normally boiled wantons. The fried ones were good with their thin and crispy skin.

Char Siew was tender and great pairing with the noodle sauces.

Not only was the food above average, the lady who serves the customers was friendly despite a busy queue ahead. I don't mind going back again for great service and food.

Barisart Coffee

For those who love coffee and enjoy cafe hopping, I bet that Baristart is something that cannot be missing out from your list for they are the first cafe in Singapore that offers an exceptional Hokkaido milk in their beverages.

This is a spot on! With the used of Hokkaido BIEI Jersey Milk, the cup of flat white tasted different. This definitely matches what the cup printed "We need a coffee break."

If you are skipping the coffee items, an alternative for a hot drink will be this cup of velvety and smooth cup of Chocolate Glace.

The Hokkaido BIEI Jersey Milk Custard Cream puff was the undeniably great stuff that we were all queueing up for. For those who cannot manage to get a seat in the cafe, many of them did not leave the queue empty-handed. Instead, most of them ordered takeaway for the cream puffs.

Apparently this classic cream puff is well liked by the patrons and makes a perfect snack.

One creamy custard costs $6 and if you were to buy 3, it costs $16.50. So let's take away some to share the love.

Parking over at Tras Street may be challenging. However, as I observed on a Saturday, the carpark turnover rate is pretty fast. However as for the wait at Baristart, be prepared to queue.
