Ji Xiang

Opted for their fried Bee Hoon over the Fried Mee with a pocket saving $2 meal from Ji Xiang was comparably the most economical lunch I can find in Clementi 448 Food Centre. The stall has abit of history in the market and is operated by 2 elderly folks.

Ji Xiang
The usual fix portion of vegetarian meal is rather standard with their ingredients with common french beans, mock meat and crispy items. Ji Xiang's Bee hoon was plain white without flavour if not for the braised gravy added. For $2, the price does speak about its portion.

Bee Hoon - $2

If you need more energy for the day, you are welcome to get a bigger portion at $3 with more Bee Hoon and ingredients. Additional mock meat from the vegetarian stalls can be added too. Just in the plate below, we have added the crispy mock prawn. Look at the crispy spiral shape items on the plate, this mock prawn was being cut into smaller pieces.

Bee Hoon + Mock Prawn - $3

All in all, Ji Xiang offers a competitive pricing for meal and if I'm looking for something simple and budget there, it will be my choice.

San Tong Steamed Soup & Delicious Seafood

Of so many stalls in the Food Centre, San Tong is the only stall that opens in the evenings for Business.

San Tong Steamed Food
Besides being known for their steam soup, dishes from the Cze Char Category can be also found here. Name it and you might get them here.

Prices are standard as per market's rate. Having ordered their sliced fish Yee Mee soup, it turned out that my dish was cooked in another style with gravy. The dish was rather simple and straight forward with fresh slices of fish among the braised noodles as well as the vegetables. Taste was average and not too salty, quite decent as a meal.

Sliced Fish Yee Mee - $3

Likewise for the fried Hokkien Mee in its traditional flat yellow noodles and seafood combination, not lessing out the standard ingredients like, fishcakes, pork and vegetables.

Hokkien Mee - $3

Moving on to their specialties, Steamed Soup. We had the chicken soup with Lotus Root. Taste was just right without having an overpowering taste of MSG.

Steamed Soup
I find that San Tong Steamed Soup is a decent place for dinner and if I have the chance, i will like to try out their herbal soup.

Hong Kong Jin Tian

Have you ever wondered where did the famous Roast Meat and Duck Leg Wrap went to after the move from Tiong Bahru last year around this time? Well, Hong Kong Jin Tian had reopened its door last year around July taking over a Nasi Place just opposite of Great World City Mall.

 Hong Kong Jin Tian

We ordered a plate of roast items consisting of char siew, roasted pork as well as duck leg accompanied by 2 plate of white rice and a bowl of brown sweet sauce. The roast duck was crisply done at its outside noticeable by its thin layer of glistering skin. While the roasted meat was chopped evenly into pieces and laid out onto the plate with the Barbecued lean Char Siew Meat. Of all the 3 meats, I would give char Siew the vote as they were not too greasy and special.

Bowl of Sauce

3 Meat
The Duck Leg Wrap (directly translated from chinese "脚包") is a must try over here as it is not commonly found in the roasted meat joints in Singapore as well as in Hong Kong. This delicacy is unique on its own as it consist of duck's foot with a yam dice in its core surrounded by slice of pig liver, fatty pork meat and yummy Char Siew wrapped together using pig intestine. They were marinaded in their special sweet sauce and barbequed to its glistering perfection.

Limited Duck Leg Wrap
Though the Duck Leg wrap was unique, I could not fully enjoy such delicacy as I'm pretty turned off by the strong innards smell.

Wrapped Duck Leg - $2.80
Prawn dumplings soup was clear but not too bland in taste. With 6 meaty dumplings nicely wrapped in their silky textured skin, it really completes a meal.

Prawn Dumpling Soup - $4
And River Valley Folks, don't forget to have a taste of their limited edition "Duck Leg Wrap"! Also, besides having Roasted Delights, Jin Tian also offers Cze Char Dishes from their kitchen.

Xiang Wei Fried Kway Teow

When you are hungry, large portions of food on the plates are simply luring and attention catching especially when you are walking about in the premises of the hawker center deciding what to eat.

As temptation hold us no further, we joined the queue and have one of Singaporean's Local favourite, Char Kway Teow and ordered its biggest portion leaving the sinfulness thought behind.

Fried Kway Teow - $3.50 (Large)
Char Kway Teow do not need to have a "Wow Factor" over here as I was looking for something stomach filling. The oiliness of a plate of CKT may be a deterrence for those who wants a plate of healthier choice food but having such "sinful" food once a while just makes me happy.

Beside its portion, the first impression of the dish was given to the taste of the Kway Teow which left a good Wok Hei fragrant. Typical ingredients like beansprouts, eggs, chinese sausages,  cockles and vegetables are not left out here.

It might not be the best I had ever eaten but in terms of standard, I would say its fairly reasonable.

Zi Bu Yang Sheng Xiao Huo Guo

Spotted an interesting stall in Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre while I was there for dinner. With Ginseng and minipot as part of the signboard, the stall has emphasized on health and tonic soup without any MSG.

I wasn't too convince to have the mini pot until I saw quite a number of tables are actually enjoying that with a plate full of ingredients.

Stall front
Making things simple, there are 6 set meals available to choose from: Pork, chicken, beef, mutton, prawn and fish with your choice of soup base (Normal chicken soup, spicy, tom yam or herbal soup).

Menu
My friend had her herbal soup base while I had the original chicken soup on the mini pots.

Choice of Soup Base

Remember not to place the pot too near to us as the flame was burning ferociously out of the pot.

Mini Hot Pot
Every portion from the set has similar combination of items just that the meat is different. It contained an egg, hotdog, crab meat, mushroom, vegetables, Vermicelli and meat ball. Additional items are chargeable separately and rice cost $0.50 per bowl. It was a great deal as portions were relatively generous and even for the rice, its a big portion.

Take a look at the meat, they were fresh and absolutely perfect for all kinds of soup base.

Pork Meal Set - $5
In case that you are wondering the kind of fish they use from the Fish Meal Set, they are actually using Tioman Fish Fillet sliced into thick pieces. Frankly speaking, the quantity of its fish was one of the reason why I had chosen them as my dinner.

Fish Meal Set - $5
Waiting time is inevitable as I had obvserved it was a one man show from preparing of ingredients to serving of food. Overall, it was quite a deal and worth the money paid for in terms of the quantity.

Kay Lee Roast Meat Joint

I have not heard of Kay Lee until I learn that the 32 years old roast meat institution in Upper Paya Lebar Road was sold for 4 Million dollars to Azech Group. The piece of new had triggered my attention and gave me the thought of trying their roast meat. With two outlets in operation currently and 2 others on its way in Ubi and West Coast road, I had visited its branch at Suntec City Mall.

Kay Lee
Service was polite and through my observations, the servers were professional as one of the patrons approached them for 14 seats at peak hour.

Interior

Menu
Again, the best way to rate their roasted meat is to order the 3 combination roast meat in a plate. There were a few sizes to choose from and we took up the regular to pair along with congee and rice. Plain rice cost $1.50 per plate while plain congee cost $2 per bowl. The rice was rather dry but was complemented by the bowl of dark sauce given.

3 Combination Roast Meat - $27.80 (Regular)
Congee was chalky and was abit on a rough side, not as smooth as expected. Char Siew has burnt edges and dark colored marinade. Meat was tender, sweet honey glazed.

Char Siew
While the Roast Duck was on a tough side but perfect on the go with the brown plum sauce and sweet chilli.

Sauce for Roast Meat
Roast pork was best explained at the look of the distinctive layers of fats separating from its meat with a crisp top layer. Yummy and at the same time guilty.

Duck and Roast Pork

The canton Style Dumpling Soup was abit on the salty side, nothing much to rave about.

Canton Style Dumpling Soup - $8
Perhaps, the buying point for the bowl of soup will be its plump and succulent fillings used. Prawns were freshly wrapped and the cuts of the black fungus had lend an additional crunch to them.

Dumpling
We concluded that their Roast Meat Joint was rather decent and of course with such a location, prices are slightly higher.

Big Fat Fishball Mee

Since I have never been to Kallang Estate Fresh Market & Food Centre, its was relatively new to me. The Food Centre is rather small with less than 20 stalls forming in a "U-Shaped". At a glance, all stalls was rather quiet except for Big Fat Fisball Mee which has continuous queue lined up. I was sold off by the crowd and gave no second thought in joining the queue.

Big Fat Fishball Mee

Fatty Meal's ingredients best suits the term given to the dish - "Fatty".  It's hard to find a bowl of fishball mee with such combination - Ngoh Hiong, fried dumpling, fishcake, fishball, minced meat, braised mushroom, liver and minced meat. Ironically, the amount of ingredients were not as much as expected and the noodles were clustered together, thus there were a slight disappointment looking at the time we had spent in queuing.

Fatty Meal - $4

At the first look of the Teochew Minced Meat Noodle, it just could not do any justice to my expectations. It was ordinary and at the point of tasting, I found that I had expected too much.

Teochew Minced Meat Noodle - $3

We wanted to ordered some dumplings soup but they were sold out. Therefore we ordered sides like Ngoh Hiong. Crispy at its brown exterior, they tasted average, just like those sold off the shelves.

Ngoh Hiong - $0.60 Each

Though the small size fish-balls were bouncy, I still have no idea why the long queue.
