Bulgogi Syo

Bulgogi Syo is a Korean BBQ Hotstone chain which lends an interesting dining concept where they basically flambe and provide a fire show at the diners' table. They stand up with their 3-step hot-stone grilling process from Korea, the first ever in Singapore.  There are 3 store locations currently, namely Bugis Junction, The Woodleigh Mall and the latest in Vivocity.

Makgeolli Alcohol Mix Tower

While enjoying the first ever 3-Step Hotstone Grilling from Korea, we had Lychee Makgeolli as our beverages. It was refreshing and a good choice accompanying the meal.

Our Tower of Lychee Makgeolli

Don't miss out on this Father's Day Special, their flaming Jeju Pork Ribs, which gave us an introduction of their New 3-Step Process, Simmer, Torch and Flambe. These pork ribs were stacking up each other accompanied by broccoli and drenched with sauce.

Flaming Jeju Pork Ribs - $69

A good sight of gushing flame in front of our eyes in seconds set the perfect dramatic scene.

Flaming Jeju Pork Ribs

It was simmered with slices of potatoes, cabbages and ttekboki.

In the Broth

Every item in the pot was well soaked in the broth.

Soaked Up the Goodness

Not forgetting that every piece of ribs was so bone-falling tender.

Pork Rib

The Flaming Jeju Pork Ribs come with Free Flow Rice, Broth and Banchan. Here are some of the Banchan we had, Kimchi Tomatoes, pickled radish, Kimchi and Mayo Macaroni.

Banchan & Sauce

Pair the flaming pork ribs with these bowls of fragrant pearl rice topped with crispy seaweed.

Rice

Among the usual pancakes, we had chosen something not so common, the Bacon Kongnamul Pancake which is also their new creation. Besides the crispiness of the pancake that captivates diners with every bite, its well complemented by the savory accompany sauce.

Bacon Kongnamul Pancake - $17.90

Enhancing the diner's experience, Bulgogi Syo added another series of flaming Sotbap aka the Korean Pot Rice with Flames. In fact, the way of preparing the meal with a flame enhanced the meat's flavour as well as the fragrance of the food. Be prepared to indulge in their 4 different kinds of Sotbap, namely:

(1) Hangari Marinated Chicken Sotbap
(2) Pork Jowl Sotbap
(3) Scallop Mentai Mayo Sotbap
(4) Wagyu Tteokgalbi Sotbap

We enjoyed the Hangari Marinated Chicken Sotbap. It comes with kimchi radish, spring onions, pajuri sauce decked up with white rice.

Hangari Marinated Chicken - $16.90

Enjoy the Korean steamed eggs with cheese. If you love the cheese pull effect, eat while it's hot.

Sera Sera Nonya

Nonya cuisine is rare, especially when serving dishes like this. Sera Sera Nonya is located in one of Bukit Batok Coffeeshops and I thought it was rare.

Sera Sera Nonya

The Nonya Chicken Set comes with a big drumstick. Every set defaults to Blue Pea Rice,  "Azhar" aka pickles, vegetables and keropok (Crackers).

Nonya Soya Chicken Set - $7.90

The meat was huge and well soaked in soya sauce with a tad ginger flavour. The meat was succulent and not too dry.

Soya Chicken

While the default items remain the set, the Sotong Asam Goreng was appetizing in its Asam sauce and flavour. For vegetables, we had some cabbages and long beans.

Sotong Goreng Asam Set - $8.90

The Asam Sotong Goreng was not too spicy and was stirred fried with onions, tomatoes and etc.

Sotong Asam Goreng

We revisited Sera Sera Nonya a few weeks later and realised that the Soya Chicken was served fried instead, then drenched with the sauce. We were disappointed that they stopped serving soup for the meal.
Nonya Soya Chicken Set - $7.90

Besides having Soya Chicken and Sotong. We also ordered their Pork Pongtay. The portion was big and quite worthwhile if you enjoy braised pork with rice.

Pork Pongtay Set - $7.90

The Pork Pongtay set was well-braised and well-flavoured. The big cuts of meat was tender and the taste fit my style.

Pork Pongtay

While there aren't many Nonya Stalls around in the hawkers, I seriously think that it could last. Overall, the food standard and quality was above moderate. I will be back again!

Hokkien Man Hokkien Mee

In the search of Hokkien Mee and sometimes back, we heard about a formerly sous chef at three Michelin-starred Les Amis had opened a stall on his own, whipping out our local dish, Hokkien Mee, in a coffeeshop.

Hokkien Man Hokkien Mee

A plate of hokkien mee is priced at $6, $12, $18. The noodles were a mixture of yellow noodles and thick Bee hoon.  The stock was robust and definitely rich in flavours. No doubt that the chilli was not very "powerful", this "wet" style of cooking Hokkien Mee fits me. It was not too oily.

Hokkien Mee - $6

Each mouthful had a tad "wok hei" aroma, and I like that the stock did not carry a heady prawn taste.

Ingredient

We can top up our serving with ingredients such as abalone, noodles, ingredients or fried egg. We opted for a fried egg as we were impressed by what other diners had. The fried egg was fluffy and to my liking.

Topping up Hokkien Mee with Fried Egg for $1

To be honest, they are generous with the ingredients. For just a small plate, we were served with a few tender big rings.

Ingredients

Overall, I find that the plate of Hokkien Mee was satisfying but not to die for.

Stella Seaside Lounge

Have been passing by the doors of NSRCC countless times and finally, we were here for a meal. Fortunately, even without reservations, we were given a good seat at the outdoor area next to the sea.

Rest and relax with our glasses of Non Alcoholic beverages next to the sea and watching the planes fly by. We had the refreshing Hippie Juice consist of watermelon, plum, strawberry, lemon and mint while the Mango-La was made up of coconut cream, mango, lime and pineapple. Both beverages were good coolers.

Hippie Juice and Mango Lada - $10 each

We were taken over by hunger and these hot sweet potato fries came just in time. It was addictive and I could not stop popping into my mouth till the mains were served.

Sweet Potato Fries - $8

The serving may look small initially but it was stomach filling towards finishing the dish. The Mushroom Linguine was suitable for vegetarian, couple with triple mushroom in garlic butter sauce, topped with parmesan cheese, not forgetting that the Linguine was cooked to perfection too. Totally yummy!

Mushroom Linguine - $16

We were deciding between burger and Tacos, in the end we were sold to the Birria Beef Tacos.

Birra Beef Tacos - $24

The pan fried corn tortillas are filled with slow-cooked beef short ribs, smothered with tasty mole sauce and shredded cheese. It was served with a rich beef consomme too.

Drinks Pairing with Tacos

While enjoying our meals, we get to see people enjoying their sea sports activities too. The environment scores definitely and their food standard was great too. I will want to be back for others.

I find that this place is suitable for special occasions or even if you are thinking of romancing your date.

Everywhere Lobster Club

Screaming with joy when I heard that we would be heading some place for Lobster meal. When we reached the place, we saw a long queue at the building and we were panicked for a moment as we were thinking how long we needed to queue.

Luckily, the one that drew the crowd was Nasi Kandar Marwah, a restaurant on the lower level.

Everywhere Lobster Building

We managed to find the restaurant at the upper level. It was spacious and the full glass panels give the restaurant natural lighting.

Dining Space

Dining Area

While we walked deeper into the restaurant, we got to feel a different kind of ambience with the Maroon curtains drawn.

Dining Area

Handcrafted Squid ink pasta with 1/2 grilled Australian lobster, red crab chilli sauce, tomato cherry, parsley. The pasta texture was perfect, not overcook with taste acceptable by everyone of us.

Chilli Lobster Squid Ink Pasta - RM 128

The oysters were big and inviting, cheese baked with lemon garlic butter sauce. You can opt for 1/4, 1/2 or 1 dozen.

Baked Oyster - RM 115

The oysters were big and cream-ilicious!

Oyster

Under the Club Specialities on the menu, we had selected the Hot Seafood Platter comprised of grilled assorted seafood for sharing among ourselves. The platter looks a feast with 1 grilled Australian lobster, 3 cheese-baked oysters, 5 sauteed mussels, 5 sauteed half-shell scallops, 6 grilled tiger prawns, lemon pairing with signature garlic butter sauce, cajun butter & green chilli sauce.

Hot Seafood Platter - RM 338

The lobster was plump and succulent.

De-shelling the prawns and dipping them into green chilli sauce.

Prawn and sauce

Its very obvious that we could not get enough of lobsters and decided to order more. We had the Cheesy Wild Australian Lobster baked with cheese, served with their signature lemon garlic butter sauce, salad and fries.

Cheesy Baked Lobster - RM 208

We had the battered seabass fried to perfection decked up with fries and served with cabbage slaw, tartar sauce and lemon. Love the chunk of seabass and the parsley sprinkled over it.

Fish & Chips - RM 40

Ending our meal on a sweet note, we ordered some of the desserts on their menu starting with the
Brulee Cheesecake. The baked cheesecake was light in flavour and not overpowering. It was served with a crispy caramelized layer on top.

Brulee Cheesecake - RM 25

This classic Creme Brulee came with a crispy caramelized layer, blueberries and strawberries on the top.

Creme Brulee - RM 18

Not everywhere served good desserts and my eyes were definitely on this awesome dessert. The wobbly oolong tea panna cotta was topped with berries compote and adorned by fresh berries.

Oolong Pana Cotta with Berries - RM 23

We had the Everywhere coleslaw as an additional side. It was quite refreshing and good for sharing since the same side on our mains were not enough for all of us.

Everywhere Coleslaw - RM 10

Overall, it was a good dining experience in Everywhere Lobster. We do not mind revisiting the place again.

Uya

If you enjoy quality Charcoal-grilled Live Freshwater Unagi, Uya is one of the first few unagi speciality restaurants that offer such delicacy. We visited its flagship outlet in Wheelock Place.

Uya at Wheelock Place

The interior has a chic, modern vibe with wooden furniture and shades of grey. Like the other restaurants offering Live Eels, there is also a window into the kitchen where diners get to see the chefs grilling eels over the binchotan charcoal.

Dining Environment

The Hitsumabushi is not to be missed for this is their signature dish. The set comes with Chopped-up eel, served with condiments, soup & pickles. One can enjoy Hitsumabushi in the traditional style.

Use the Shamoji (Wooden Scoop) to divide the Unagi rice into 4 portions.

(1) Taste it without adding anything
(2) Add condiments like spring onions, wasabi and Nori
(3) Make it like ochazuke (rice with soup)  with condiments with dashi broth from the small pitcher.
(4) Free Style - Enjoy any way you like besides the top 3 styles above.

Hitsumabushi - $37

Unagi Rice Bowl aka Unadon was served with appetizers, soup and pickles. It comes in 2 sizes, small and medium, $26 & $35 respectively.

Unadon - $35 (Medium)

The eel was definitely delicious especially when it was grilled freshly in front of our eyes. We love its smoky flavours and the slight crisp with sweet sauce at the exterior layer.

Yummy Unagi

While visiting them on a weekday, we were lucky to have secured a table as it was full house even on a weekday afternoon. Besides Wheelock Place, they have another outlet in Novena which has about 60 seatings, a smaller area.
