Nyonya Chendol

Craving for some Chendol and we got ourselves a bowl of Sweet Corn Chendol. This popular dessert in asia is visually appealing with the vibrant green pandan-flavoured jelly strands, and sweet corn swimming in a pool of coconut milk and palm sugar syrup. Its really inviting and perfect to have for a hot day.

Kin Hoi (Original) Famous Thai Food

With so many Restaurants serving Thai Food in Singapore, what make Kin Hoi stands out from others its that they are offering Thai dishes of original Taste and have interesting items in the menu. While Direct Translation from the name "Kin Hoi", it means "Eat Shellfish".

Kin Hoi

The Thai Grilled Pork Neck is a popular street food dish in Thailand known for its juicy and flavourful profile. It is tender and juicy in nature, well marinated in a mixture of Thai Spices and sauces before being grilled. The charred and smoky exterior added depth to the dish. The charred exteior contrasts beautifully with the tender interior of the pork.

Thai Grilled Pork Neck - $15

Their House Special Vermicelli Claypot with Crayfish was cooked with their own authentic secret blend of traditional herbs and spices paired with the yummy deep sea indo-pacific crayfish.

Noodles with Crayfish - $18

Not a common dish on a Thai Menu, this 150g of awesome goodness was flame-grilled to medium rare, a total addiction to us that we repeated the order.

Kin Hoi's Original Melting Beef - $12 (170 - 200g)

We seldom had this in Singapore as not many places offer this dish. This 500g of Juicy Full Shelled Cockles was paired with Kin Hoi's Signature Chilli Sauce. Very addictive indeed.

Cockles - $15

A delightful fusion of flavours and textures. The sweetness of crabmeat would complement the savoury taste of the fluffy egg omelette with slight crisp. The tender and plump crabmeat provide a contrast in the texture, adding chewiness to each bite. The dish taste good on its own even without pairing with a bowl of white rice.

Thai Fluffy Crabmeat Omelette - $16.80

Enjoy Thai Food with a good spread from Kin Hoi. Fan of cockles or gong gong will be happier too to have these items on their menu too.

Tablescape Restaurant & Bar

While waiting for the 4-course meal to be ready, we were served with this freshly oven-baked mini bread from the chef. It was warm and went pretty well with the butter given.

Bakes

The meal kicked off with the 1st course with a creamy Burrata Salad. Simple with elegant plating comprising of Broad Bean, Tomato, Beetroot and Basil.

Burrata

Next up, we were served with succulent Poached Lobster with White Asparagus. Poached Lobster was served with 3 dallops of Bearnaise sauce, adorned with Snow Pea Shoots and Dill Oil. Love the biting texture of the white Asparagus too.

For the Main, the Mummy had chosen the Lamb Rack. The lamb rack was beautifully served with herb-crusted pairing with some roasted beets and potato pave. She had this plate polished empty and kept giving praises on this dish.

Lamb Rack

I had the Wagyu Skirt Medium Well Done. The Beef was tender and totally suited my appetite with its red wine sauce. This dish denotes Tablescape's signature and I will recommend it. Besides the slices of Wagyu, we have Broccolini, Mustard Horseradish Mash and Chanterelle Mushroom.

Finally, the last of the 4 Course Meal, their dessert. It ended well on a sweet note with their enchanting Blossom Dessert with Orange Mascarpone, Valrhona Raspberry Cream, and Pistachio Gelato Ice Cream. It was so beautifully decorated with every detail being edible. All were good except that mummy find that the Orange Mascarpone was a tad sour for her.

Overall the service crews were hospitable. Thank you Thanisha for rendering us a good service during our visit.

It's been quite lucky to have won this Mother's Day 4 Course Set Menu ($88++ / pax) for 2 Class95’s Cartunes. Thank you Class 95, Jean Danker & Edward Russell for this!

Ming Chung Restaurant

Another return visit to Ming Chung Restaurant for an authentic Xing Hua Cuisine.

Ming Chung

Prawn Paste Chicken or Har Cheong Gai is a popular dish in Singaporean & Malaysian Cuisine. This mouth-watering dish boasts a perfect balance of flavours and texture. These chicken pieces were well marinated in prawn paste and a mixture of seasonings, resulting in a delightful umami-rich taste with a hint of sweetness. The chicken is fried to a perfect golden brown and crispy on its exterior while the interior remains juicy and tender.

A delightful rendition of the traditional Lor Mee dish, incorporating Xing Hua noodles. These rice noodles are thick and are perfect for soaking up the rich and flavourful gravy. The gravy is a thick and glossy mixture which coats the noodles generously, infusing them with aromatic essence from the ingredients such as pork belly, eggs, yam, pork, and vegetables, elevating the dish to new heights.

Lor Mee (Braised Noodle) 鹵面 - $5.80

Tantalize your taste buds with Sweet & Sour Pork, a combination of tangy sweetness and crispy fried pork. The sweet and tangy sauce is a typical combination of vinegar, sugar, ketchup and soy sauce, offering a perfect contrast to the savoury richness of the fried pork. Garlic, ginger, and green onions, adding depth and complexity to the dish.

Sweet & Sour Pork 咕嚕肉 - $13

Fried Batang Fish is a culinary that combines simplicity with incredible flavour. Its well seasoned with salt and pepper, deep fried to gold brown as well as a crispy exterior. Fried Batang Fish stands out in terms of its succulency and tender flesh. The fish itself has a mild and slightly sweet taste in nature. This timeless classic showcases the beauty of simplicity in cooking.

Fried Batang Fish 煎马交鱼 - $12

Featuring another delightful and flavourful dish that showcases the versatility of mee sua noodles. Cooked in a medley of ingredients such as pork, vegetables, mushrooms, cabbages, and spring onions accompanied by peanuts and seaweed. Simple yet reaching depth of flavours. The noodles absorb the essence of the seasonings and sauces, resulting a dish both savoury and fragrant.

Fried Mee Sua 炒面线 - $5.80

The seaweed is simmered in the broth, imparting its unique umami flavour and slight oceanic essence to the soup. The soup is light yet satisfying in nature. Other ingredients such as tofu, seafood, meat and mushroom enhance the flavours and profile to the dish.

Seaweed Soup 紫菜汤 - $5.80

Of all the staples of Xing Hua Cuisine, I never get their Fried Bee Hoon. Besides being a delightful dish with a harmonious blend of flavours, the fine and delicate texture of the Bee Hoon is to die for. The combination of garlic, onion, and vegetables adds savoury goodness. Proteins like pork belly, lean meat, and shrimp further enhance the dish with satisfying elements of the protein.

Fried Bee Hoon - $5.80

Besides enjoying the authentic cuisine, we ordered some beverages like Chinese tea and barley to pair along.

Barley & Tea

While not many places offer authentic Xing Hua Cuisine, Ming Chung Restaurant is still one of the restaurants I look for.

Zhong Zhong Fine Spice

The craving for Fine Spice or Ngoh Hiong was so strong that we "die die" had to eat that for one of the meals during the time.

We went to a Wu Xiang stall during the day only to find out that they only offer Wu Xiang during certain times of the day thus we had something else. However, we had another meal from Zhong Zhong Fine Spice for the next meal of the day.

Perhaps they are the only few decent ones in Bukit Batok / Timah area. The chilli had peanuts sprinkled in it and although the Bee Hoon was not as fine as the one we had, their selection of ingredients was definitely awesome.

We had the shrimp cracker, century egg, prawn fritter, Ngoh Hiong, Tau Kwa etc. Dipped them into the zesty chilli and enjoy our meal.

Wu Xiang - about $20

Chops & Sear

Chops & Sear had opened their 11th outlet in Bukit Batok. They have a bright and attractive stall signage as well as a good variety of food items.

Chops & Sear Bukit Batok

Besides the main, we ordered a few side dishes to share. The cheesy popcorn was deep-fried and good for sharing

Cheesy Popcorn Chicken - $3.80

Other than that, we had mushroom soup, coleslaw and onion rings too.

Mushroom Soup, Nourishing Colesaw, Cheesy Onion Rings (6 Pcs) - $4.80, $2.80, $3.80

The Norwegian Salmon was cooked with a crisp in the skin but the flesh was on the dry side. It was paired with fries, toast as well as coleslaw. The Garlic Aioli sauce elevates the taste of the dish.

Seared Norwegian Salmon with Garlic Aioli - $13.50

Cross Section of the Salmon

My preferred Mains out of all my orders will be their Signature Salted Egg Chicken Brioche Burger.
The buns were soft and airy coupled with salted egg sauce, chicken patty as well as shredded cabbages.

Signature Salted Egg Chicken Brioche Burger - $10.50

The Salted Egg Sauce was used sparingly on the burger, nonetheless, still achieving a savoury treat as a whole.

Cross Section of the Burger

If you are keen on Pasta, they also serve up a variety of Spaghetti dishes and even spaghetti with main. We had the classic, seafood Aglio Olio Spaghetti with a blend of savoury clams, prawns, squid, and olive oil with al dente pasta.

Seafood Aglio Olio

If you are up for some lamb meat, do pamper yourself with their succulent Lamb Loin served either with Thyme Jus or Black Pepper Sauce. No gamey taste and the meat went well with Black Pepper Sauce.

Australia Lamb Loin (with Thyme) Jus / Black Pepper Sauce - $14.50

Thank you Lao Niang Agency as well as Chops & Sear for the invitation.

Ru Yi Yuan Vegetarian

The endless long queue is always a deterrence for me to try out their vegetarian food and since they are open Monday to Saturday 5.30am to 12.30pm, I made a point to visit their stall but still was caught in the long queue despite it was not on a 1st or 15th day of the lunar calendar month. I thought I should have tried once since it's so popular.

Ru Yi Yuan Vegetarian

We had the standard Bee Hoon that comes with the default ingredients. They are fresh and a variety of ingredients are given more as compared to other vegetarians stall but it also tell us that the amount of price that we are paying for.

Bee Hoon - $4.50

If you order a mixture of noodles, it will be slightly expensive.  The craving drenched on the plate of noodles was unique and the ingredients included Tau Kwa, cabbages etc

Kway Teow & Noodle - $5

If you don't mind spending a bit more on a vegetarian meal as compared to non-vegetarian meal, its good to give them a try.
