Nenek Recipe - Indonesian Grill & BBQ

Heading down to this corner of the food court after learning from a friend that this Indonesian Grill & BBQ serves a good bowl of Mee Soto.

Stall of Indonesian Grill & BBQ

Besides the lighted menu that was displayed on the stall, they have a paper menu on the ordering counter too.

Menu

While my friends had introduced the noodles dishes we somehow got carried away from the Nasi Set and ordered their Ayam Penyet and Ayam Penggang. Each plate comes with meat, raw vegetables, Tempeh and a small piece of Tau Gua. The Ayam Penyet was big, meaty and crispy.

Ayam Penyet - $6.80

The chilli is the bomb and elevates the dish giving a fiery kick to it. Ayam Penggang was sweet and delightful coated in the dark sauce.

Ayam Penggang - $6.80

We added Bagedil on top of the $4 bowl of Mee Rebus. Their style of Mee Rebus was decent with hard-boiled egg, beansprouts and chopped Tau Gua. The gravy was more an orange color. Overall, this bowl of Mee Rebus was not too bad too.

Mee Rebus - $4

A stomach-comforting bowl of Mee Soto was recommended. It was pretty decent with a handful of shredded chicken meat, not too bad but I'm still searching for a good bowl of Mee Soto.

Mee Soto - $4

Food is pretty decent and there were also a long queue during lunch hours. I do not mind going back again for other dishes.

Bingz Singapore 西少爷肉夹馍

When there are new eateries in Singapore, there are bound to have long queues and yes we were one of them in the queue. Bingz's had opened their first outlet in Singapore at Westgate, Jurong East. Its a fast food concept but serving Chinese food, popular with their Crispy Burger aka Rou Jia Mo 肉夹馍

Bingz

Having patronised the place during its early stages of operations, we observed some discrepancies in how the staff managed the crowd but nonetheless, as usual, we will be patient.

Make your own combo by choosing one item from A, B and C each to get $3 off the classic combo.

A - Choose a Crispy Entree
B - 1 Perfect Match
C - 1 Beverage

A Crispy Entrees

Calorie watchers will be happy as Bingz's menu indicates the calories for their items. The shredded pork meat from The Signature Pork looks tempting and we ordered one to try. The "Chinese Burger" deserves a mention with its crispy and flaky bun. However, the shredded pork that had the moist and juicy look was lacklustre in taste. Bland.

The Signature Pork 经典腊汁肉夹馍

We Ordered the Black Pepper Beef and mushroom too. There were chunks of Beef mixed with mushroom and black pepper. I guess likewise, only their Bun deserves a mentioned as the fillings were indeed lacking of savoury taste.

Black Pepper Beef & Mushroom 黑胡牛霖肉夹馍 - $6.99

B - Perfect Matches

Sesame 360g | 568Cal
Chili Oil 360g | 450Cal

For the cold noodles, one can choose either with Sesame or Chilli sauce. This dish is suitable for vegetarians. The bowl of noodles was rather filling and the ingredients included Mocked Meat and shredded cucumber topped with Sesame Seed. It tasted good for me but it became "jelat" having more than half a bowl of it.

Cold Noodles (Liang Pi - Sesame / Chili Oil) 凉皮系列 (麻酱/红油 ) - $6.59 / $5.99

The bowl of Wonton Soup looks eye catching with seaweed, shredded egg as well as chopped spring onions. The Pork Wontons were bite-size and we were kind of disappointed as both the soup and Wonton were not tasty.

10pc | 362 Cal

Wanton Soup (Pork) 金牌鲜肉小馄饨 - $6.99

If you prefer the chili oil version of Wonton, you can choose to order this. The good thing is that they were not overly oily and had a lot of vinegar within, topped with chopped peanuts, coriander, spring onions and sesame seeds as garnish.

Chili Oil Wonton (Pork) 红油金牌鲜肉小馄饨 - $6.99

C - Beverages

The Ice Jelly can be added on when you purchase their combo at $1.99 each.

The Brown Sugar Ice Jelly was too healthy and tasted bland. It was not cold enough too.

Brown Sugar Ice Jelly (with nuts) - $3.89

Likewise for Coconut Ice Jelly. Its a layer of coconut milk with sesame seed and too bad it was not cooling enough.

Coconut Ice Jelly (with nuts) - $3.89

We had the chicken Nuggets as add-on on and chili powder was given separately. There were no chili sauce available when asked. These bite-size chicken nuggets were decent and good for sharing.

Smokin' Hot Chicken Nuggets 黄金鸡块- $5.49

Overall, their cuisine does not really suit our tastebuds for this visit. Perhaps I should visit the popular Chinese Burger in the West before I come back here again.

Enjoy Xia Hokkien Mee Kitchen @ Jln Besar

We had recently visited Enjoy Eating House and Bar in Stevens Road and were impressed by the food quality. Upon learning that they have another place in Jalan Besar with a slightly different menu focusing on Hokkien Mee, we made it a point to head down.

Enjoy Xia Hokkien Mee Kitchen

Our drinks were contained in a traditional Chinese metal cup, how nostalgic.

Enjoy Thai Milk Tea & Chrysanthemum Luo Han Guo - $3.50 & $3

Living up to its namesake! Enjoy these 5 pieces of Signature Jumbo Chicken Satay. They were definitely well-marinated and moist and sprinkled with crushed peanuts and spring onions. On top of that, complete the experience by dipping into the chunky peanuts sauce.

Jumbo Chicken Satay 鸡肉沙爹 - $9.80

A huge and "upsized" Ngoh Hiong we had. Ngoh Hiong is hand rolled in house and filled with crab meat as well as minced kurobuta. What an indulgence!

Homemade Ngoh Hiong 自制五香 - $9.80

Simply by looking at the fillings with the minced meat with diced carrots. The texture was great and minced meat was not too mashy.

Minced Meat

It was a joke when we told the server that we did not order the dish then to realise that it was actually Enjoy Crispy Hor Fun.

Enjoy Crispy Hor Fun 享受滑蛋炸河粉 - $15.80 (Small)

This dish really got our attention for every piece of hor fun was fried to crispiness. Its a classic Enjoy favourite and the dish comes with silky egg sauce with big prawns, squid and crispy roast pork.

Crispy Hor Fun

Here's the starring dish Big Xia Hokkien Mee. The Hokkien Mee carried the style that I preferred whereby the noodles were not over soaked in the broth. The broth had the right amount of taste without having too much of a heady prawn taste, The prawns were big and there were ingredients like crispy pork belly and squid.

Big Xia Hokkien Mee 大虾福建面- $15.80 (Small)

What a good meal we had indeed. I do not mind return to either of their restaurant for more delicious food!

Ipoh Tuck kee Son (Katong) [Media Invite]

Ipoh Tuck Kee Son has been in the industry for a while and they are popular with their featured Cze Char Staples like Yu Kong Hor  (Moonlight Hor Fun) and Dai Loke Mee. Its's quite easy to locate the stall in Katong Shopping Center, as they are just right beside the famous Delicious Boneless Chicken Rice

Stall of Ipoh Tuck Kee Son

Signature Moonlight Hor Fun or better known as Yu Kong Hor is a must-order dish, featured as a Main Course in Tuck Kee Son's menu. There was an evident amount of dark sauce with a good thick gravy.

Yu Kong Hor 月光河 - $6.30 / $9.330

We stirred the raw egg in and we could feel the thick consistency. Are you a fan of such a dish too?

After Stirring in the Raw Egg

If you love sweet black sauce with udon-like noodle, the Dai Loke Mee might suit your tastebuds. The sweetness from the dark soy sauce was adequate and the ingredients were similar to Yu Kong Hor with vegetables and sliced lean meat

Dai Loke Mee 大碌面 - $5.80 / $8.80

Deep fried to its crispy exterior and we enjoyed the juiciness of the meat within. It was simply yummy.

Homemade Fried Chicken Wing 自制炸鸡中翅 - $5

Its not often we get to see such fried rice from the Cze Char Menu. Let's give it a try!

Fried Rice with Olive Veg & Chicken Cube 榄菜鸡粒炒饭- $5.80

If you enjoy some fatty pork meat, do try their Ipoh Spicy Fried Meat. The batter was crispy and had a tad of spiciness. The meat was tender and fragrant. Quite addictive as a finger food too.

Ipoh Spicy Fried Meat 怡保香辣炸肉- $7

The Chicken Feet was well braised in savoury sauce. However, if you are looking for an herbal taste here you might be disappointed.

Traditional Chicken Feet 古早味鸡脚 - $6

Other than that, I enjoyed this dish and the texture was pretty moist.

Do you like Braised Chicken Feet too?

We all know that to have this Baby Octopus to be cooked in this style, the octopus has to be fresh. It was basically simple and straightforward with them soaked in the soy sauce, topped with fried garlic and chopped spring onions.

Baby Octopus in Soy Sauce 清甜八爪鱼 - $11.80

For people who love Baby Octopus-like me, such a simple cooking method was good. You can even dip them into the bowl of chilli with crushed peanuts. This dish would probably pair well with some beer!

Baby Octopus

What a good combination of Salted Black Bean with dace. It reminded me of having such a combination in a porridge meal. This is special indeed.

Fried Rice with Dace and Salted Black Bean 豆鼓鲮鱼炒饭- $6

Take a look at the spoonful of rice. The dace and Salted Black Bean had made a perfection on the meal.

Thank you Shiokafoodie & Tuck Kee Son for the invitation.

Tajimaya (VivoCity)

We got lucky and won Premium Wagyu Buffet dining vouchers from Class95FM to Tajimaya, a Japanese Charcoalgrill Yakiniku. The thought of having Yakiniku is always a No-No to me but Tajimaya has managed to curb my fear as they are equipped with a high performance exhaust system that takes good care of the smoke, allowing us to sit comfortably in an air-conditioned environment. They also has an Al Fresco Dining like no other as the restaurant has an outdoor seating space that offer a panoramic view of Sentosa Island and Resorts World Sentosa (RWS)

The buffet is kept at 100 mins, $69.90 per pax adult, $3 more for Fri to Sunday & PH.

Tajimaya

We started off with their ready items on the menu while waiting for the servers to set up the charcoal grill and bring us the meat platters that we ordered.

We warmed ourselves up by ordering a bowl of Asari Clam Soup. The soup was opaque and comprised of both Asari and Kombu. The taste was ordinary.

Asari Clam Soup

Up next, we had the Kaisen Chawanmushi to warm our stomachs. The egg custard has seafood included.

Kaisen Chawanmushi

I'm addicted to their Hokkaido Tobiko Potato salad as they were so appetizing. However, the thought in the corner of my mind told me not to eat too much as potato will make the stomach fill up easily.

The Hiyashi Cold Soba was pretty ordinary too.

Hokkaido Tobiko Potato Salad & Hiyashi Cold Soba

I'm a fan of Garlic Fried Rice but I guess I will give this a miss for they need to be flavourful enough. It's better to keep the stomach space for the Yakiniku instead.

Garlic Shoyu Fried Rice

There were only few kinds of Sashimi available on the menu and I'm already satisfied as there was my favourite Swordfish Sashimi. We had Salmon, Salmon belly, Tuna and Swordfish Sashimi.

Let's start grilling Garlic Butter Half Shell Scallop and Hoso Tiger Prawn!

Seafood and Beef

Let's have a fun experience by grilling this meat on our own.

  • MS6/7 Australia Wagyu Oysterblade (Tare)
  • MS6/7Australia Wagyu Beef Short Ribs
  • MS5/6 Australia Wagyu Flap Meat
  • Australia OX Tongue

Premium Meats

They pride themselves on serving quality meat and sourcing them with the highest grade from Kagoshima and Miyazaki and prepared fresh daily by their skilled Chefs.

All Wagyu beef on Tajimaya's Ala Carte menu are of A5 grade. This type of Wagyu is the highest yield and meat quality grade for Wagyu Beef which has the most ideal firmness, texture, and marbling - making it perfect for creating a melt-in-your-mouth experience.

Look at the marbling of the meat.

Grilling

We grabbed some lettuce to wrap over the piece of BBQ Meat with kimchi and Chuka Wakame to enjoy them.

Lettuce and Meat

It was a good experience with Tajimaya for the service crew was on the ball, most importantly no delaying in our online order and absolutely friendly. For those who love Yakiniku and Premium Meats, this buffet is well worth it in terms of quality and standard of service.
