Ah Qing Traditional Lor Mee

We are back at Chinatown Complex Market & Food Center for Meal. I was introduced to this relatively new stall that sell Lor Mee and decided to give it a try.

Ah Qing Traditional Lor Mee

While Fried Fish Lor Mee is their recommended item on menu, I ordered a bowl and get a try of it.  No doubt that the portion is $5, it’s rather generous with the Fried Red Gori Fish. The braised pork belly was flavourful and the bowl of Fried Fish Lor Mee has the usual ingredients like Fried Ngoh Hiong, half a boiled egg and bean sprouts. You can top the bowl of Lor Mee with additional garlic, chilli, vinegar s well as Chinese parsley.

Fried Fish Lor Mee - $5

Fish Meat

For a more adventurous selection and bigger appetite, you may want to order this combination of Fried Chicken & Fried Fish Lor Mee. It’s a significant upgrade from the Fried Fish Lor Mee with crispy deep fried chicken chunks. Might be a little sinful but well worth the calories spent.

Fried Chicken + Fried Fish Lor Mee - $6

Fried Chicken

They have solely Ngoh Hiong Lor Mee as well as Fried Chicken Lor Mee. Every individual items like Pork Belly, braised egg, Fried Chicken &

For service, the hawkers are friendly and there were patrons in the queue early on a weekend morning, including us.

Fu Hua Soya Milk 福华豆花水

If you are at Beo Crescent Market, you will never go missing this stall for they have a long queue lining up at their stall every time.

Fu hua Soya Bean

Soya Milk with Grass Jelly has a smooth texture and no residue. I'm glad that the sweetness level is acceptable and not overwhelming.

Grass Jelly with Soya Milk - $1

We enjoyed the firm yet wobbly texture of the refreshing grass jelly. It was cooling, soothing the throat. We ordered this with Attap Seeds and it balanced the taste well. Not too sweet and we like it.

Grass Jelly with Attap Seeds - $1.70

Shuang Fei Zai

Shuang Fei Zai is located at the same coffee shop as the popular Chef Minh Vietnamese Pho and perhaps the newest stalls in the coffeeshop as compared to others. Specialising in Braised Duck, Shuang Fei Zai offers the braised duck on their menu with Rice, Porridge and noodles.

The Stall

There are 2 different Kway Chap Set, A & B. With B being on an expensive option with additional Braised Duck added as compared to Set A.

Kway Chap Set B - $7.50 (1 Pax)

The set comprises of braised eggs, braised intestine, skin, pork belly, fishcakes, tau pok as well and braised duck. The braised duck was well braised in its savoury taste and the innards were very well clean without any gamey taste.

Kway Chap Set B - $15 (2 Pax)

The Kway was delicious topped with fragrant fried onion in oil. Even though the braised Kway soup has minimal herbal taste, it was sweet and delightful to the tastebuds.

253 Claypot Delight 砂煲小吃

Here we go again, revisiting 253 Claypot Delight. We ordered other soups that we didn't buy during our first visit. The Old Cucumber Pork Ribs Soup was sweet and refreshing.

Old Cucumber Pork Ribs Soup 老黄瓜排骨汤 - $4

The flavours of White Radish Pork Ribs Soup did not disappoint too. It was sweet with meat falling off the bone easily.

White Radish Pork Ribs Soup 白萝卜排骨汤 - $4

This was my favourite order for the night, the Emperor Herbal Chicken. It was wrapped in aluminium foil with the herbal soup. The soup is not those gooey kinds but rather a clear-looking and watery base. It was sweet with dates and wolfberries while the chicken was tender.

Emperor Herbal Chicken 帝皇药材鸡 - $8

While we were curious what is the difference between the usual Claypot Rice & Five Flavours Claypot, we ordered one to try. The claypot has more Chinese sausage as compared to the chicken. From what we know, 253 Claypot Delight only offers one-size claypot rice.

Five Flavours Claypot 五味煲 - $10

I came across the video on TikTok when one of the influencers is featuring this Claypot Delight stall in Choa Chu Kang. We bookmarked it on our list and decided to go there.

253 Claypot Delight 砂煲小吃

The ABC pork ribs soup better known as ABC Soup is my all-time favourite. This simple yet nutritious soup is popular in both Singapore and Malaysia. It has 3 main ingredients which are potatoes, onions and carrots. I love the taste as it evokes a nostalgic feeling of home quality.

ABC Pork Ribs Soup 罗宋排骨汤 - $4

Salted Duck soup is a unique and flavourful dish. It has a good balance of flavours between the saltiness and richness of the ingredients. The duck meat was bone-falling tender and I find that the mixture of sweet flavours is quite satisfying.

Salted Veg Duck Soup 咸菜鸭汤 - $5

We ordered this flavourful and healthy mixed vegetables in clay pot. It was appreciated for its fresh and vibrant taste in combination with different vegetables like carrots, mushrooms, and snow peas with tofu, prawns and scallops. The presentation was appealing and its simply delighting.

Claypot Mixed Vegetables 砂煲什菜 - $8

The starring dish is none other than this Claypot Chicken Rice. This one-pot meal is a delicious Cantonese delicacy that includes chicken, rice and various seasonings cooked together in a clay pot. The chicken was marinated and imparts an umami taste to the dish. The dish gave a good textural contrast of tender flavourful chicken pieces and the slightly crispy caramelized layer of rice that forms at the bottom of the claypot.

Claypot Chicken Rice 砂煲鸡饭 - $7

The dish is comforting, hearty and satisfying to the stomach. Ingredients like Chinese Sausage and vegetables contribute to the aromatic profile of the dish.

Here's what we had for our meal. I do not mind returning here for their stomach-comforting boiled soup as well as their clay pot rice.

Sense of the Sea

Sense of the Sea is a pub & restaurant opened since 2014. The relaxing venue is an ideal spot for watching sunset. It has a variety of indoor as well as outdoor seating from high dining tables with chairs to low tables with beanbags. With such a good atmosphere, it would only be perfect with the daily DJs and Live Bands playing.

Sense of the Sea

While waiting for our dishes to be served, we have roasted cashew nuts to pair with our beverages.

Appetizers

We also start off with the traditional Thai Dishes like this mango salad. It was refreshing and appetizing.

Mango Salad

Whenever it comes to Thai Cuisine, I'm very pleased by their culinary skills of doing their staple dishes like this. The Fried Sea Bass was deep fried into its golden brown perfection topped with peanuts, dried chilli and parsley not forgetting the little "garden" by the side that lifted the entire presentation of the dull brown colour Fried Sea Bass.

Fried Sea Bass - 460 Baht

I was struck by this dish that has creamy seafood Tom Yum Soup contained in the young coconut husk. It was absolutely appetizing and sweet with nature of seafood in it.

The Young Coconut - 280 Baht

We were served their crispy fried soft-shell crab. It was savoury and addictive.

Soft Shell Crab

The crispy Golden Bags were willed with shrimp fillings. They tasted awesome with the sweet and sour prune sauce.

Golden Bags with Shrimp Fillings - 180 Baht

The big and succulent meat of the prawns was savoury and juicy.

Plump & Juicy

Every dish was beautifully presented with colours. The Grilled Meat was pipping hot from the kitchen and pairing it with the dipping sauce gave additional flavours on top of its smokiness. These meat also complimented our tower of Heineken Beer well.

Grilled Meat with Dipping Sauce - 240 Baht

On top of having the live music and great chats accompanying the night, we have a few towers of beers that kept our conversations "running".

Beer for the evening

While writing and going through the pictures, I realised I was missing such vibes.

Fook Kin

Fook Kin collaborates with The Muttons  (Class 95 FM DJs), Fat Boys and Roast Paradise. While this joint is famous for their roast meats.

Their interior is nostalgic and will take you back in time. with the metal grated folding gates, hanging birdcage lightings, old school floor tiles and cement walls.

Fook Kin

It can never go wrong ordering their Char Siew and Roasted Pork at Fook Kin. I must agree that they are Fook Kin awesome! The cuts of both types of meat were uniform and has a good ratio of fats to lean meat.

The Char Siew was shining and alluring. It has a good caramelised coating together with its slightly charred edges, bringing out the

Mix Platter (Med 300g) - $30

The Mee Pok is simple but worthy of attention. The pale looking bowl of Mee Pok may appeal to be lacklustre but tossing together in its seasonings and marinated minced meat, it was surprisingly delicious. Not forgetting the pork lard and cucumber that gave the crunchy texture to our bowl.

Mince Meat Mee Pok - $3

The Caramelised Char Siew was sweeter than what we usually had from the roast meat stall. The Charcoal flavour meat was juicy and succulent. It strikes a good balance between the sweet savoury and smoky flavours.

Sweet Savoury Char Siew

Look at these thick cuts of pork belly. The crispy skin that crackles in our mouths was the bomb! Dipped them into the chilli for additional flavour.

Crackling Pork Belly

Packed with Truffle Fragrance, the bowl of Truffle Wanton Mee comprised of 3 fried wantons, a few stalks of greens and of course the glistering gold-dusted Char Siew. Their springy noodles were tossed with seasonings and truffle oil.

Truffle Wanton Mee - $13.80

Charcoal Roast Duck was decadent with the semi-sweet herbal sauce without being too overwhelming. The roast duck was surprisingly good with the herbal notes and was not gamey. It was juicy!

Charcoal Roast Duck 1/4 Lower - $22

Their Siew Mai is nothing out of the ordinary. Perhaps if you may want to focus more on their core food than these dim sums.

Shrimp & Chicken Siew Mai - $4.80

Their BBQ Pork Bun has the conventional Char Siew instead. It tasted quite ordinary to me and on a sweeter side.

BBQ Pork Bun (2 PCs) - $4.80

While at the payment counter, Yes! We made a payment that's why they said they Fook Kin Love Us.

Payment Counter

They offer patrons for free beverages in exchange Instagram posts and we got ours. The service was great with servers being attentive and jovial. You can really feel the passion.

Overall, if you are into Roasted Meat and have a little more to splurge, Fook Kin can be of consideration.

Labrador Nasi Lemak & Nasi Padang

Having passed by the Hawker Centre in Telok Blangah Food Center a number of times, I noticed that Labrador Stall is always lined up with patrons without fail. As many may know, as a Singaporean, I cannot wait to find out what's going on here.

Labrador Nasi Lemak. Nasi Padang

Mee Siam is known for its inviting flavour that typically has a good balance of spiciness, sweetness and sourness. It has a good hint of dried shrimp and a tangy taste, contributing to the dish's unique taste.

Mee Siam - $3.50

Mee Soto is delightful and flavourful. This bowl of hearty noodle-based soups has a touch of spiciness. Its aromatic broth and combination of spices as ingredients made it a comforting meal.

Mee Soto - $3.50

There is no detail about shredded chicken but chunks like this were given do not be mistaken, I prefer this way as the portion seems more as compared to those finely shredded ones we had from other stalls.

Mee Soto Chicken

While there are many of the patrons ordering their Nasi Padang, I will very much want to try out that during my next visit too.
