The fish steamboat broth was not too bad but I still preferred having fried yam in it. It was tasty and was charcoal heated.

Fish Steamboat

It takes a while for the broth to be bubbling and thereafter, we threw in the slices of fish accordingly.

Raw Fish for Steamboat.

It's quite interesting to see them serving BBQ Seafood like Big Prawns, Sotong, Stingrays and Seabass over the sizzling hot plate. The big prawns were succulent and topped with Sambal Belachan and raw onions.

BBQ Big Prawns 烧烤大虾 - $25 / $35

Pork ribs and yam ring were yummy.

Yam Ring and Pork Ribs 排骨佛本飘香

Asam's dish was appetizing and a good pairing to our plates of rice. Sotong was tender and rolled up in pretty cuts, immersing into the Asam dish with tomato, onions and lady's fingers.

亚参双鲜

One of their recommended vegetable dishes on the menu will be this Dried Scallop Kai Lan. I enjoyed the crunchy bites from the stalks of the Kai Lan added with the shredded fried driver scallop and vegetables. Yummy!

Dried Scallop Kai Lan 干贝香颂港芥兰 - $15 / $22

New on the menu, the Big prawns were generously coated in the savoury pumpkin sauce. They were plump and succulent. Besides having this latest flavour, they do offer Coconut Milk Cheese, Salted Egg, Cereal and Rice Wine Prawns too.

Prawns with Pumpkin Sauce 金瓜大虾

The naturally sweet taste of the Lala makes up a good broth. It was added with some bird-eye chilli, giving the soup an additional fiery kick. I like the way it was served over the fire as it helps in keeping the dish warm. If you prefer another cooking style for the Lala, you can opt to cook them with Ginger Onion.

Spicy Lala Soup 上汤啦啦 - $15 / $25

The Pork Trotter was well braised and served in earthen claypot. The presentation of the dish was livened up with the use of broccoli.

Pork Trotter 蜜汁圆蹄

The seafood as well as the mixed vegetables made up the delectable sauce that went well with our plates of white rice. Yi Pin Hot Pot was delicious with mushrooms, abalone, broccoli, and prawns.

Yi Pin Hot Pot 一品锅 - $25 / $38

Thank you Lao Niang Agency for the invitation.

Pin Ming Xuan Cantonese DimSum 品茗轩广式茶楼 (PMX DELIGHT HOLDING SDN BHD)

I came across Pin Ming Xuan when my friends start sharing this Dim Sum place in Johor Bahru from the Tik Tok Clip. Pin Ming Xuan has been open for about 9 months and I was told by the boss that they are always packed with snaky queues even on a weekday. Having checked around in Johor Bahru for better Dim Sum, we decided to give it a try.

Pin Ming Xuan Cantonese Dim Sum

While my friend ordered their coffee, I notice the sparkle in his eyes as he sipped the first sip and praised that their coffee was good.

Beverages

Food items were prepared in order to maintain their freshness and quality. Perhaps this might be a reason many are willing to wait in the queue. Pin Ming Xuan had limited seating and they had even placed some outdoor seating along their corridor.

Special Sauce Stir Fried Radish Cake 特色炒萝卜糕 - RM 8.90

The Stir Fried Radish Cake was praiseworthy. The egg fragrance and texture of the cake had kind of gave us a benchmark on their Dim Sum quality as well as standard.

Radish Cake

The steamed Chee Cheong Fun Roll was yummy. It was drenched in its special sauce with some vegetables and topped with roasted sesame seeds. Char Siew was chopped into finer pieces and wrapped up by a thin layer of smooth rice rolls.

Steamed Charsiew Cheongfun Rolls 叉烧肠粉 - Rm 8.90

While many places prepared the phoenix feet with black pepper sauce, PMX did this delicacy with their own sauce. I love the sweetness and execution of this dish. For those who prefer savoury taste of such dish without peppery taste, this will fit the bill.

Phoenix Feet with PMX sauce 酱皇蒸凤爪 - RM 5.90

Served in a tray of 3, the Xiao Long Bao cradled the delectable soup which is the essence of this dish. They tasted above average and do pair them with the fine strips of ginger with black vinegar.

Shang Hai Xiao Long Bao 小笼包 (3 Pcs) - RM 9.90

The soup was tasty and Pork Ribs were tender. The taste of freshness is there.

Steamed Pork Ribs (1 Plate) 鼓汁蒸排骨 -RM 6.90

I have gradually lost my interest in Siew Mai as I could not find any satisfying flavour nowadays. Their Shrimp Siew Mai was surprisingly good without a gamey taste. On top of that, I find it tasted refreshing.

Shrimp Siew Mai (3 Pcs)蚧子烧卖皇 - RM 6.90

The fresh Shrimp are cradled by a thin layer of translucent skin.

Fresh Shrimp Dumpling (3 Pcs) 鲜虾虾饺 - RM 7.90

It has been quite a long time since I last had the Pan-Meat Bun. The taste was not bad and it was not too oily.

Pan-Meat Bun (2 Pcs) 白菜生煎包 - Rm 6.90

I could not resist ordering the Golden Salted Egg Bun whenever it appears on the Dim Sum Menu. Well, the golden portion was not as obvious as what was shown in the picture of the menu. Nonetheless, you still can see some faint golden markings on the Bun.

Black Golden Salted Egg Bun 黑金流沙包 - RM 5.90 (2 Pcs)

Enjoy the savoury Salted Egg lava flow once you tear the bun in half. The hot molten lava together with the pillowy texture of the bun was perfect.

Lava

To order this Shark Fish Dumpling, it took us about 20 min of waiting time. Not to worry, the server will remind you about it before you place the order. The soup was tasty and Dumpling was not too bad, even though it was an individual serving, we shared it among ourselves for there were too many dishes ordered and our tummy was kind of full.

Simmer Shark Fish Dumpling (Per Serve) 鱼翅罐汤饺 - RM 12.90

I was told that they have 2 more brunches coming up this year and are under renovation right now. I'm looking forward to more quality Dim Sum places like this!

Xin Yi Vegetarian Food 欣意素食

While queueing at the next stall for Porridge, I noticed the long queue at Xin Yi Vegetarian Food and decided to join the queue too. No doubt it was a long queue, it was actually a fast-moving one.

As usual, drinks were served while waiting for the food to be served. The 3 Layers Coffee was unique and robust while the Buah Long Long Drink was on the sour-sweet side at the beginning but was later made diluted by the ice cubes.

KL Fried Kway Teow has a strong Wok Hei taste which I'm looking for. Its creamy egg sauce had also help in elevating the dish.

The Fried Pork Belly was not too bad. It has a good ratio of meat to fats without being too tough on its texture.

Fried to golden brown in colour, enjoy these yam rolls by dipping them into the sweet sauce.

The Creamy Egg Sauce was magical, it paired so well with KL Fried Kway Teow as well as this Crispy Egg Noodle. Soften the noodle by tossing them into the sauce and savour down the dish!

Fried Lychee Shrimp Ball is new on the menu. The creativity of the dish was quite impressive as the presentation resembles the Lychee Fruit.

Fried Lychee Shrimp Ball 荔枝虾球
Fried Lychee Shrimp Ball 荔枝虾球 - $8.80

The Hometown  Prawnpaste Fried Chicken aka "Har Cheong Gai" looked faint in colour and was not attractive enough on the outside but as the saying goes, do not judge a book by its cover. The wings were packed with full flavours from its special shrimp paste batter. The crisp on the outside and juiciness of the meat were laudable.

This Pasar Malam Fried Carrot Cake caught me by surprise for its yumminess. These bouncy cubes were cooked together with bean sprouts, eggs and vegetables.

Stir-Fry Prawns with Eggs 虾仁滑蛋
Stir-Fry Prawns with Eggs 虾仁滑蛋 - $9.80

Unlike Singapore's version of Char Kway Teow, Penang Fried Kway Teow generally is lighter in colour. This staple dish of Penang's was stir-fried with bean sprouts, prawns, fish cakes and Chinese sausage. The plate was packed full of Wok Hei, which I'm looking for in such a dish.

Penang Prawn Noodle soup was delectable. Lean Meat, fish cakes, Kang kong, hard-boiled egg and prawns were used.

The meal will not be completed without ending it with their desserts. The Chendol was loaded with coconut milk and sweet gula melaka. Totally love the textural differences between the chewy green jelly and the melt-in-your-mouth ice.

Sunday Folks

Whenever we were in the vicinity and thinking of Ice Cream for our after meals, Sunday Folks will come to our mind straight away.

Dark Chocolate Ferrero was rich and had a velvety texture. It contains nuts and is made up of hazelnuts as well as 55% of Chocolate Couverture. Toppings include ground hazelnuts, caramel marshmallows and homemade chocolate sauce. Yummy!

If you prefer the Dark Chocolate Ferrero without Waffle, you may want to order this in a cup. It is a scaled-down version with nuts and marshmallows.

Ferrero in Cup - $8.50

Another all-time favourite of ours will be their Sea Salt Gula Melaka. It does not contain egg and this Gula Melaka was produced together with Hand-harvested sea salt. Glat that it was not too salty. The toppings on the waffle include Gula Melaka Mochi, Chocolate Mikado Sticks and Gula Melaka Sauce.

Sea Salt Gula Melaka
Sea Salt Gula Melaka - $11.50

For those who love the taste of Tea and Lavender, you may want to order their Earl Grey Lavender that is topped with Toasted Almond Thins and fresh strawberries. The Almond Thins had added a delicious caramel brittle crunch to the soft serve. Do note that this contains eggs.

Earl Grey Lavender

Have you tried having Cold Brewed Coffee with tonic water? This taste pretty refreshing with some Lime and Tonic Water.

Cold Brew Lime Tonic

The Yuzu Mousse cake was layered with sweet lychee cream, matcha sponge and yuzu zest. It was decorated with blueberries, lemon slices and herbs. It strikes a good balance with the refreshing notes of yuzu and the sweet fruity fragrance of lychee. While the subtle bitterness of matcha lends a good contrast to the rest of the flavours.

With so many Ice Cream cafe around us daily, we will not forget the quality of Ice Cream provided by Sunday Folks.

Published on 21 July 2015

Sunday Folks is by the same owner of Creamier in Toa Payoh Lorong 1. It is a beautifully designed place situated in Chip Bee Garden, serving special flavoured ice cream, aromatic delicious waffles, coffee and tea.

Sunday Folks

The Interior is L-Shaped, simply designed with wooden furnishings, hanging track lights and cemented flooring,  a resemblance of semi-industrial concept.

Menu
This portion of Sunday Folks is rather interesting as we took our own drinking water. Water was taken from the golden tap with a sparrow as its knob.

Ta-da, here's the unlimited serving of our drinking water.

These Belgian Waffles were freshly baked upon order and requires at least 15 minutes of waiting time. Paired with fruits like strawberries, blueberries and drizzled with maple syrup as well as chocolate hazelnut sauce.

Waffles with Ice Cream - $11.80 (Double Slice)

Out of the 6 flavours available (Summer Strawberries / Roasted Pistachio / Earl Grey Lavender / Madagascan Vanilla / Sea Salt Gula Melaka & Dark Chocolate), I had the Sea Salt Gula Melaka. The soft serve ice cream is creamy and smooth without having an overpowering taste of Gula Melaka. However, if you have it together with the waffle, the sweetness of the waffle will somehow supersede the light flavours from the ice cream. However, I must highlight that the Belgian Waffles were good.

Top View

Since it is located on the quieter side of Holland Village, it will be an ideal place for gathering and catching up with friends.
