Xin Kee Pig Organ Soup

The Pig's Organ Soup has been around for a long time in Bukit Batok Estate. Besides serving Pig's organ,  they are also serving different kinds of steam soup too.

The Pig Ograns soup was appetizing with a sweet and slightly sour taste coupled with a generous amount of ingredients like meatballs, liver, stomach, lean meat, preserved vegetables and coriander. They are simply satisfying as a stomach warmer for a cold day.

I'm opting for yam rice over white rice as I find the latter too boring. The yam rice was fragrant with onion and some yam bits.

It seems like there are some recommendations on their pig trotters and braised intestine. I do not mind revisiting them again.

Ji Xiang Braised Duck Rice Noodle Porridge Kway Chap 吉祥

Ji Xiang Braised Duck Stall is located just beside the popular 777 Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee Stall.

Stall of Ji Xiang

A portion of Kway Chap for individual costs $4.50, a standard market pricing from most coffeeshop and hawker centres. We ordered a set for 2 pax with additional braised duck meat.

2 Pax Kway Chap with Braised Duck - $16

The braised items were braised and strongly infused with a dark sauce taste but minus out the herbal taste if you are looking for one. The big intestines were not of the best as they had some bitter after taste. The default set does not include Pig Skin but rather the basic items like egg, Tau Kwa, and braised intestine.

Kway Chap Ingredients

While we had the braised duck meat as an additional item. The meat was decent but does not have the savoury taste that I'm looking for.

Braised Duck

The braised meal was simple but lacked the Herbal taste that I'm looking for.

Nimmies Pastry Cafe

Nimmies Pastry Cafe has been marked as our "To Go Places" for sometimes. The gorgeous Parisian-inspired cafe is located in a standalone mansion a stone throw away from Singaporeans' popular KSL Mall and Taman Sentosa.

Nimmies Pastry Cafe

Nimmies Pastry Cafe has both an Alfresco and an indoor dining area. The cafe has an Instagram-worthy interior.

Stairways

It has retro titles, Grecian sculptures, arched windows and even some art pieces. It looks as though we are visiting some museum.

Sculptures

Though the cafe's facade may look uninteresting and dull, do not judge a book by its cover. Internally, the space has tall ceilings and cement screed floorings giving us a different kind of feel.

Interior

We were quite lucky to be served at the upper deck all to ourselves. We were lucky as we made a reservation while we saw a long queue form after us.

Dining Space

The theme of the toilet reminds me of some European style. The tap was golden and toilet was spacious. What keep us talking was the 2 toilet bowls in a single toilet.
Toilet

Even the coasters were retro! This Passion Fruit Mint Cooler was indeed the saviour for the day for the weather outside was simply too hot for us. The refreshing taste of this cooler and the bits of the passion fruits fresh was perfect.

Passion Fruit Mint Cooler - RM 15

Another refreshing drink we had was the Virgin Mojito.

Virgin Mojito - RM 17

While latte art was seen from ordering the hot beverages. The Genmaicha tastes close to a Matcha latte and was not too sweet.

Mokuren Genmaicha - RM 13

The mushroom soup was thick and had mushroom bits within. It was served with a slice of toast.

Wild Mushroom Soup - RM18

The Chili Salted Egg Crab Crossiant is a recommended item and we were quite lucky as it was initially sold out. The pastry had a strong fragrance of salted egg and the flaky pillow soft croissant was undeniably yummy.

Chilli Salted Egg Crab Croissant - RM 18

Their Big Breakfast was served with tatter tots, eggs, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, sausage, bacon, greens and sourdough toast. It's simple in ordering and normally won't go wrong.

Nimmies Big Breakfast - RM 39

I wasn't a fan of open toast. However, if you want to skip the mains and had something sandwiched with smoked salmon, this may fit your bill.

Sour Dough Grilled Smoke Salmon Sandwich - RM 38

The seafood Aglio Olio was not too bad with ingredients like cheery tomatoes, scallops and prawns. its a tad spicy.

Spaghetti Seafood Aglio Olio - RM 42

While their Nasi Lemak Crossiant was sold out, we had their house Nasi Lemak. The presentation was neat with a dish served with blue pea rice, sunny-side-up egg, roasted peanuts with anchovies, cucumber slices, papadum and not forgetting the egg-catching deep-fried thigh meat.

House Nasi Lemak - RM 38

Green Curry Salmon was served with couscous, boiled long beans and broccoli. The dish was rather disappointing for the green curry was salty and the Salmon was not up to our standard. The layer of skin was simply too hard and the salmon fillet was on the dry side.

Green Curry Salmon - RM 39

The pasta was cooked to Al Dente perfection and the salted egg sauce was yummy with deep-fried soft-shell crab topped with some cheese and alfalfa.

Chili Salted Egg Soft Shell Crab Squid Pasta - RM 42

Customer service was on the ball and friendly. There are hit and misses on their food, moreover, the food items were rather limited. Nonetheless, I still will want to revisit their pastries.

Open Farm Community

While we make our way to Open Farm Community, I was surprised by the Kampong-style entrance. If you are going to Tiong Bahru Bakery, you can head towards the left and if you are heading to Open Farm Community, take the route on the right.

Which Way?

The surrounding area looks like a farm area.

Interior was modernly furnished, with beautiful lighting that resembles those from the Christmas trees.

Interior

The items available on the printed menu were rather limited. Perhaps looking at the chalkboard tells us what is available on that day.

Since we were here after our meals, we ordered the Single Origin Chocolate Brownie that is served with Cacao Sorbet. Though the portion was small,  I enjoyed the rich and savoury dessert.

Single Origin Chocolate Brownie - $14

Toasted Focaccia was served with herb butter, organic olive oil and long pepper salt. Love the airy soft texture of the toast with crispy edges. The fragrant of Foccacia was something that I look forward for.

Toasted Foccacia - $10

We ordered all 4 kinds of smoothies from their menu. The berries is made up of natural yoghurt with strawberry and blueberry while the Banana strawberry is a mixture of yoghurt with banana and strawberry. Mango passion is a mixture of yoghurt, mango and passion fruit. Last but not least Avocado mango is yoghurt with avocado, ripe mango and low-fat milk.

Berries, Banana Strawberry, Mango Passion, Avocado Mango - $10 each

Given a chance to be back again, I will very much like to order their main courses.

Hello Western

Buying Mee Siam from a Western Food Stall instead of Western Food? This is a common sight at Hello Western for their Mee Siam was popular among the patrons. Simply love the sourish and sweet-tasting gravy loaded with spring onions and Tau Pok.

Quantity at the price of $3.50 is value for money.

Morning Congee

It's quite an experience to sink into the local culture and enjoy the local food from their hawker centre. The place looks quite run down to me and kind of remind me of one of the small hawker in Singapore at Jalan Benaan Kapal.

Surrounding

While the toilet is a short walking distance away from the hawker with keys needed to enter the premises.

Toilet

Just this time round, we manage to visit the place and observe the environment. We headed to the recommended stall with congee, soya milk as well as fried fritters.

Stall of Morning Congee

A scoop of the congee and boy, I'm so glad that I had finally come here. The taste was nostalgic though the taste may be bland for some.

Minced Pork with Century Egg - RM 6

The bowl of Pork Porridge was unlike what we had back home in Singapore. It was simply just minced pork and meat in the congee with fried fritters, fried onions and coriander.

Pork Porridge

While my stomach space only allows a bowl of porridge, I don't mind revisiting the Food Center for other popular food if I do have the chance to be back there again.

Kin Wah Kedai Makan

While we heard many pals mentioning Kin Wah's local breakfast, we decided to give it a shot. The interior of the coffee shop looked as though the 70s / 80s coffee shop we had back home in Singapore with small squarish tiles making up the flooring and heavy round stone tables.

Kin Wah Kedai Makan

We headed to this corner of the coffee shop for the most straightforward food that we Asians will like to have as breakfast.

The Stall

The stall has a simple setup with 2 stoves, one with a two-tier steamer and the other with a big bowl of preserved vegetables.

Next Order Please

Soft and tasty Yam Cake with yam bits at random bites. The sweet sauce and sesame seeds make a good pairing.

Yam Cake - RM 1.90  / pcs

A portion of familiar comfort food for my breakfast is none other than these rice rolls loaded with sweet sauce and sesame seeds.

Chee Cheong Fun - RM 1.70 / pcs

Simply love the steaming Zhui Kueh topped with preserved vegetables. They are always the best combinations. The toppings were not oily and fragrant.

Zhui Kueh - RM 5

We had a satisfying local breakfast. If I'm back at the coffee shop again, I will be very pleased to try out other food like noodles and bread or even kueh for breakfast.
