The Blacky Seafood [Closed]

Sometimes back, it was quite viral online in social media about Indian selling Cze Char, not only that he is able to speak Mandarin and Cantonese fluently. He is the owner of the Cze Char Stall and came from Ipoh. He has been in the industry for about 27-28 years.

Stall of The Blacky Seafood

Our meal began with a plate of Stir-Fried Kale with Garlic. It was simple and a good start to our meal.

Stir-Fried Kale with Garlic 清炒芥兰 - $8

Nothing spectacular about the dish but this was my first try having pork with Cereal. The pork was tender and lightly coated with a layer of batter and fried.

Cereal Pork 麦片猪肉 - $13

The taste was not quite special to us, perhaps the combination of Cereal with prawns is still a better pairing than pork in general.

Cereal Pork

The block of Tofu was served in some gravy and topped with broccoli and fried vegetables.

Signature Beancurd 肉松翡翠豆腐 - $13

We took the promotion of 2 crabs at $50 with a single flavour. However, if you are looking for additional flavour, it is doable at an additional $10. We were told to choose between the black pepper or the chilli flavour and we opted for the latter. The overall taste and freshness were decent, however, if you are looking for something savoury, this might not fit the bill.

2 Crabs - $50

With the promotion going on, we were given a free 12 Man Tou. This is best for dipping into the crab sauce.

Man Tou

Here's the complimentary soup from the Kitchen's Head Chef, a combination of a sour taste and a subtle sweetness from the chicken. Overall, it's quite appetising but the taste is on the bland side.

Since there is another Blacky Seafood in Cambridge Road, I will very much like to try the dishes there too.

Zhong Guo La Mian Xiao Long Bao 中国拉面小笼包

You can always take notice of this stall in Chinatown Complex Food Centre for the long queue will have taken the attention of any passerby.

Zhong Guo La Mian Xiao Long Bao 中国拉面小笼包

The Pan Fried Dumplings were fragrant and though it was pan-fried, they manage to retain their juiciness and the fillings were not dry at all. The exterior looked promising with its crispy appearance.

Pan Fried Dumplings 锅贴 (韭菜鲜肉)- $7

The Steamed Mini Buns were nice but lacked pales in comparison with the Pan Fried Dumplings. The exterior skin of the Mini Buns was rather thick and if you were to compare it to the famous chain on XLB, the broth was on the sweeter side no doubt the meat was as juicy.

Steamed Mini Buns 小笼包 (10pcs) - $7

Since we only ordered 2 items out of their menu, it definitely makes sense to be back for other items, especially their La Mian.

NBCB Orchard Central

NBCB started up during the CB (Circuit Breaker) period. They started their very own CB (Cheese Burger) from scratch via their home. With the affirmation given by their home-based customers, they starter the NBCB chain.

NBCB
NBCB

The menu from NBCB is rather lean, however you can customize your burger with their add-ons like crispy bacon, pickles, eggs etc. We complete the burger meal with the NBCB milkshake. I tried the Bandung milkshake which was said to be exclusive in Orchard Central outlet and I totally like it. It was not too sweet and love its refreshing aftertaste.

NBCB Milkshake
NBCB Milkshake - $4.50

The Double Cheese Beef Patty Burger was sandwiched between the Brioche Bun with cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato in their secret sauce.

DCB
DCB - $15.90

While the NBCB burger comprises of Single Beef Patty and of the same preparation as DCB, with a price difference of $4.

NBCB
NBCB - $11.90

No doubt that the beef patty was juicy and goes well with the buns, the fries was on the tasteless side. On a side note, the ventilation of the area was not ideal and we left with "fried" smell after that.

Royal Thai Boat Noodles & Bar

My last visit was back in year 2018 which was quite some time back. This return visit was made as we were looking around for some authentic and delicious thai food. While expecting to be seated outdoors similar to my last visit, we had a chance to visit the upper deck for the alfresco dining area not operable due to the sudden downpour.

The interior was welcoming, giving a garden feel with the splash of Thai culture with their display ornaments. The flooring tiles too.

Upper Level Dining Area

As soon as our orders were sent into the kitchen, the dishes were quickly served onto our tables. We were quite amazed by the speed for there are still patrons ahead of us.

The Feast

The Fried Seabass with Thai herbs was awesome. The fish was fried to perfection and cut into pieces and drenched with fish sauce and other condiments. The use of dried baby shrimps, small cuts of lime, onions, peanuts, lemon grass and dried chili make the dish appetizing. Moreover, though it was deep fried, they were not greasy at all.

Seabass Thai Herbs - $28

Stuffed chicken wings were fried to golden brown and were plump in size. Pair this finger food with Mustard and sweet spicy thai chili sauce.

Stuffed Wings

Wow, their chicken satay was savoury coated with the sweet sticky black sauce and served with onions as well as cucumbers. Considering the portion of meat, its value worth for money.

Chicken Satay 3 Pcs - $6

The Pineapple Fried Rice with prawns was well executed and tasty with turmeric taste.

Pineapple Fried Rice (Prawns) - $8.50

Though we had ordered the small portion, the portion was rather big and definitely more than enough for 1 pax. We had the beef boat noodle with Kway Teow and the broth was fragrant with lards. Kang Kong and bean sprouts were included too,.

Boat Noodles Beef (Small) - $3.90

Here's the pork version with glass noodles. Although the Thai Boat Noodles spicy level was alter to suit our local taste bud, I would say their Boat Noodles are authentic and carries the kind of taste we are searching for. This is perhaps the best bowl I ever had in Bukit Timah area,

Boat Noodles Pork (Small) - $3.90

Last posted 12th April 2018

Spotted this Royal Thai Boat Noodles & Bar everytime I pass by the roads and decided to give it a try. There are still a lot of units left vacant in the King Albert Park thus locating Royal Thai should be an easy task, moreover they are just along the main roads.

Outdoor Space at Royal Thai

We had the outdoor seats and we had a beautiful sight of the blue hours.

Outdoor
Through their friendly servers, we learnt that this is another branch apart from the main one in Fairways Drive. The menu is extensive, they have a lot of dishes to choose and diners like us are just simply spoilt of choices.

Menu
With the naturally sweet Thai Mango, this drink is a perfect cooler to beat the heat on the hot day. Love its taste, sweet and yummy with no additional coloring added.

Mango Ice Blended - $5.50
Starting with Appetizers, we had the usual Mango Salad. It gave us a riots of texture together with the sour and hot burning sensation from the chilli. Not to mentioned that it is fragrant with chopped peanuts as well as dried shrimps.

Mango Salad - $7
Boat Noodle is also one of my preferred dishes from Thai Cuisine, however not many places served them. We had the beef version and noodle was fragrant, topped with beansprouts, pork lard, spring onions for garnishing. The soup in the bowl tasted as good as one I had in Thailand. We ordered the small portion to have a try and it was satisfying.

Boat Noodle Beef (Small) - $3.90
Pineapple fried rice was fragrant topped with floss and fried with prawns, assorted vegetables and cashew nuts. The dish was appetizing and addictive. I would consider this as one of the better Thai Pineapple Fried Rice I had here locally.

Pineapple Fried Rice (Prawns) - $9.50
The grilled pork with their house sauce was not too bad. It was tender and tasty.

Grilled Pork with Garlic with Royal Thai Sauce - $12.50
Thinking of completing our meal with sweet thoughts, we ordered a bowl of Red Ruby Dessert for sharing. Love the crunchy chestnut wrapped in the soft translucent red jelly.

Red Ruby - $4.50
Meal as an overall was satisfying. Service rendered was friendly and prompt. It will be good to be back here again for some Thai Food.

Ga-Hock Roasted Meat

While Ga-Hack Coffeeshop is famous for its seafood during the evening time, have you ever visited them in the morning too? Having enjoyed Ga-Hock Roti Prata before, we decided to give the Roasted Meat Stall a try.

Stall of Roasted Meat in Ga-Hock

Here's our order for the morning! Just too bad that they ran out of roasted meat during that day of the visit.

Our Orders

The dumplings were plump and larger in size with prawns and meat fillings; however, it's not up to my taste as they lacked the savoury flavour of marinated meat.

Dumpling Soup 水饺汤 - $4

It will be better if they have black fungus as part of their ingredients. On the other hand, the soup was a disappointment as its quite salty.

Dumpling

Wanton noodles were tossed with black sauce and topped with a handful of Char Siew. The Wanton on the other hand has nothing to shout about.

Wanton Noodle 云吞面 - $4

The meat is well-roasted and more on the fatty side.

Close up on the glistering Char Siew

Topping up the $4 plate of Roasted Duck Noodles with some Char Siew. It was well-roasted and was not too tough.

Roasted Duck with Char Siew Noodles 烧鸭叉烧面

The Soy Sauce chicken was tender and tasted decent without being too oily.

Soy Sauce Chicken Noodle 油鸡面 - $4

Overall, there are quite a few breakfast options in Ga-Hock. Having said that, Roasted Meat Noodles will not be my priority choice as I preferred other food there over this.

Sweet Talk

Sweet Talk is a new dessert place for us as suggested by our pal. They offer both traditional Desserts and food on their menu.

Sweet Talk

The interior was spacious with a good white coat of paint. Tables, benches and chairs were placed by the side of the walls to allow room for walking.

The Environment

There is one small corner in the cafe with plants on sale.

Mini plants on Sale

You will find a number of Smileys in the Cafe. Do smile a little more today as suggested by this neon lighting.

Smile A Little More Today

Even their coaster looks cute. Does it make your day here?

Smiley Coaster

A combination of glass jelly, nata de coco, chewy pearls and sweet potato balls decking up by a heap of shaved ice. The dessert is cooling and refreshing for a hot day like this.

Grass Jelly Ice

Known as Chng Teng back in our home country, this 6 Flavours Herbal Soup is served hot by default. The semi-sweet taste of the soup is refreshing with ingredients like candied winter melon, dried longans, red dates etc.

6 Flavours Herbal Soup 六味汤 - RM 6.90

The dessert is said to aid the beauty of a person. Ingredients look similar to the 6 Flavours Herbal Soup with Red Dates, Wolfberries, birdnest, peach gum and fresh milk.

Beauty Soup 滋补养颜汤 - RM 7.90

If you like something sweet with a tinge of sourness, the ice jelly with white pearls and Nata De Coco may fit the bill. Enjoy these wobbly, soft & bouncy Ice Jelly which aids in cooling down our body.

Ice Jelly

Besides the usual bowls of dessert, they are also selling cooked food and snacks.

Muah Chee

While chatting with the man, we got to know that his son is actually the owner of the cafe and he was just helping up. The friendly service, as well as the Cafe ambience, give us more reasons to be back there again.
