Hong Sha Li Satay

Our stomachs go hungry whenever we reach Chomp Chomp Food Centre thus we started running around, ordering numerous dishes from different stalls.

Hong Sha Li
Hong Sha Li

There is a minimum order of 10 sticks and we had Chicken, Mutton and Pork Satay, 5 each, making up a total of 15 sticks. The Satay was beautifully charred and the chicken meat was tender and savoury. The mutton Satay was slightly tough but nicely marinated and sweetened. Pork Satay was not too fatty and was succulent.

Chicken, Mutton & Pork with Ketupat - $0.70 per stick / pcs

The Ketupat was decent. We dipped the satay and ketupat into the peanut sauce that comes with pineapple paste. All in all, for pricing and portion, it is relatively on the friendlier side. No doubt that it may not be the best but it is good enough to fix the satay cravings.

Ah Boon Drinks Stall

Ah Boon Drinks Stall serves an extensive menu of cuisines from Chinese Mala to Japanese Yakiniku and even Western Menu fare. Not only that, they also serve beers and bar drinks.

They are a coffee shop in the West, tucked under the MRT tracks in between the MRT station of Jurong East and Clementi.

A mixture of cuisine

Do note that their Yakiniku Grill is only available for dinner time after 5pm. Enjoy the grill session pairing with some tower beers will be perfect.

For the Grill

Let's get hands-on with our grill Session over the portable grilled gas stove.

Hands-on time

Slices of meat were marinated and flavourful.

On Fire!

For bites, we have a plate of grilled squid. It was coated with some sweet sauce and packed with smokey flavours. Squeeze the lime juice over and dip them into the given chilli to enjoy these chewy bites.

Grilled Squid 烤苏东 - $13.80

While from the Chinese Cze Char Menu, we had the crispy Seafood Bee Hoon. It's another version of the Sheng Mian (Raw Noodles) we usually had from the Cze Char Menu. A mixture of vegetables, crab sticks, lean meat as well as prawns with savoury gravy was drizzled over the nest of crispy Bee Hoon.

Crispy Seafood Bee Hoon  香底海鲜米粉 - $8.80

Zero into the Skewers,  there is a minimum order of 2 sticks. They offer a good variety range of skewers to choose from ranging from $1.90to $3.40 per stick! We had 2 sticks each of the below:
  • Shishamo, ($2.40)
  • Teriyaki Salmon,  ($2.90)
  • Quail Egg 鹌鹑蛋, ($1.90)
  • Scallop 扇贝 ($3.40) and

How about some western fare instead? Their fried chicken can be ordered in multiples of 2s, crispy or original. Every serving comes with coleslaw, onion rings and fries.

Ah Boon Fried Chicken 阿文特制炸鸡 - $13.80

Hopping into the Mala Xiang Guo section is not a bad choice either. We get some spicy kick over here while the numbness level from the bowl of food is still within the acceptable range.

Mala Hotpot

With the variety and range of items and drinks available in casual settings, the spacious area under the tracks allows us to unwind and chillax after a day's work. I do not mind revisiting the area for gathering again.

Thank you Lao Niang Agency for the invitation.

Xin Wang Stewed Soup

While there are not many stalls in Kofu, the soup stall attracts me with its constant queue will be none other than the stall selling nutritious Chinese soups. Being a soup lover, it's hard to resist having that after seeing the varieties of them.

Xin Wang Stewed Soup

Even with 10 kinds of soup on their menu, not every type is available and usually, it left with a few selections at the time of my visit.

10 Kinds of Soup
10 Kinds of Soup

The rice (both plain and pumpkin) is free upon every soup order. Do note that their Pumpkin rice runs out fast most of the time.

Winter Melon was well cooked such that with the slightest pressure, it disintegrates easily. The soup was sweet with pork ribs, and wolfberries and has an adequate taste of the cool melon.

Winter Melon Pork Ribs Soup 冬瓜排骨老火汤
Winter Melon Pork Ribs Soup 冬瓜排骨老火汤 - $5.50

The apple and snow pear were cooked to soften with ingredients like the Chinese almond and Pork Ribs were fork tender. The nutritional soup is tasty and not too oily.

One of the common soup on the menu that we will order will be the Lotus Root with Peanut and Pork Rib Soup. The taste of soup was adequate and not bland at all. Peanuts as well as lotus roots were cooked to soften. Pork Ribs on the other hand is tender too.

Lotus Root with Peanut & Pork Ribs Soup 莲藕花生排骨汤
Lotus Root with Peanut & Pork Ribs Soup 莲藕花生排骨汤 - $5.50

One of the most popular soups on the Cantonese dining table. There were chunks of old cucumber with red dates and meaty pork ribs. Taste of the soup was naturally sweet and they goes well with a bowl of rice.

Old Cucumber with Octopus Soup 老黄瓜八爪鱼汤

While the pork ribs already give a natural sweetness in the base of the soup. The use of carrot as well as sweetcorn had enhanced the taste. Pork ribs were cooked to fall off the bone kind, tender and still retaining the tastiness in the meat.

ABC Pork Ribs Soup 红萝卜玉米排骨汤
ABC Pork Ribs Soup 红萝卜玉米排骨汤 - $5.50

The expensive soup out of all on the menu. Nonetheless the amount of Pig's stomach given was thinly sliced and generous. The soup was in milky color and sweet with use of wolfberries and was not as peppery as I expected.

White Pepper Pig's Stomach 胡椒猪肚鸡汤
White Pepper Pig's Stomach 胡椒猪肚鸡汤 - $6.50

Herbal Chicken Soup comes with a big chicken drumstick that was cooked to tender too. The soup had a strong taste of herbal but not bitter. It may looked a tad greasy but overall it is acceptable to me. Beside that starring drumstick,  there are wolfberries and red dates in it.

Herbal Chicken Soup 党参玉竹鸡汤

Another familiar soup that we have will be the Radish Pork Ribs Soup. This homely Chinese soup never fails to lend a natural sweetness to the soup with Radish (Daikon), red dates and pork ribs.

With its nutritional value and quality, it is no doubt that the stall has its own supporters daily.

Fu BBQ Seafood

While there are a few BBQ Seafood stalls in Chomp Chomp Food Centre, we picked Fu BBQ Seafood by random and decided to make use of our CDC vouchers for the meal.

Stall of Fu BBQ Seafood

Like the other BBQ Seafood stalls, their menu items were rather common and familiar, staying competitive to all other stalls of similar trade, ranging from vegetables to seafood.

Food Menu

The Salted Egg Flavour was good with Sotong and has a tad spicy kick. It had a strong salted egg fragrance however, it lacked the crispiness and was tad soggy.

Salted Egg Sotong 蛋黄苏东 - $18 (Small)

While the Qing Long Cai lover spots this dish on the menu, there was no hesitation about ordering this.
This popular dish was stirred fried with beansprouts as well as sliced carrots. We were quite disappointed for the vegetables was overcooked and soggy, losing the crunchiness that we were expecting out of this familiar dish.

Stir Fried Qing Long Vegetables 清炒青龙菜 - $8

BBQ  Stingray was slathered with spicy hot sambal and we were given lime as well as "Chinchalok" (Sauce made up of fermented shrimps) to pair with it.

BBQ Stingray 烧烤方鱼 - $15

The meat was thick but the sambal was on a saltier side and the sauce was not strong enough to cover up the stinky smell of the meat.

Thick Stingray Meat

While Chomp Chomp is known to be a food heaven with plenty of BBQ Seafood stall, I will very much like to give other stall a chance the next round when I visit them.

Havelock Rd Blk50 Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee

The traditional wet style of Hokkien Mee with an abundance of pork belly and sotong taste from the stock. The starting price for a plate of Fried Hokkien Mee may be on a pricier side as compared to stalls of the same trade. However, it may be worthwhile for some for its style of cooking may be of your liking. Looking at the queue it draws, Havelock Rd Blk 50 Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee does have its cohort of supporters.

The man behind the wok has already cooked the noodles in a batch and for every order he receives, he will start putting the amount of ingredients in accordance to the size of our orders, fry it awhile and soon ready to be served.

No doubt that the Hokkien Mee fits the basic criteria of a plate of traditional noodles, but it is on the saltier side. Nonetheless, it does have its traits like a little "Wok Hei" flavours and those "Gu Zhao" taste with noodles soaking up the goodness from the stock.

Hapiha Mediterranean Fast Food

Thanks to my pal for the recommendation and we discovered the Hapiha Mediterranean Fast Food in Beauty World Center's Hawker Center.

Menu

These savoury mid-joint wings were oven-baked well marinated. I love the good hint of citrus and the coat of sticky glaze on the tender wings. The meat

Using Premium Ingredients and No MSG involved, Hapiha Mediterranean Fast Food offers 8 different kinds of pizza, freshly hand stretched and stone baked in either 6" or 9". Flour and Cheese are of quality and also imported from Italy.

We had the Hawaiian Pizza that is made up of Cooked Ham (Prosciutto), pineapple, Mozzarella Cheese (Fior Di Latter), Tomato Sauce and Virgin Olive Oil,

San Daniele Parma & Rocket Pizza comprises 18 Month Aged Parma Ham, Rocket Salad, Cherry Tomato, Shaved Parmesan Cheese, Mozzarella Cheese (Fior Di Latter), Tomato Sauce, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Both pizzas are crispy on the crust and chewy in the inside.

We had the lamb Kebab with Honey Mustard sauce. The kebab can be served with pita, wrap or kofta platter and you can choose a 2nd sauce, chilli/mayo/ tomato or honey Mustard for the wrap or pita. The kebab was wrapped with slices of cucumber, tomato, lettuce, and onions with a salad base and Hapiha Secret Tzatziki Sauce. Overall it was tasty and well-wrapped. The only peeve was that the amount of lamb may be on the lesser side.

Lamb Kebab - $12.50

With Italian, Greek and Turkish fare on the menu, it might be quite confusing for some. Prices are relatively high compared to other food in the hawker, however considering the ingredients and its originality, it is reasonably explainable.

With the friendly service and homemade taste of food, I will very much like to be back again.

Pilcrow [Media Invite]

Pilcrow is a laid-back, cosy progressive dessert bar that is located along the stretch of bustling nightlives shophouses facing the Singapore River.

Pilcrow

The taste of DUSK is unique on its own. The rum taste was significant but not overpowering. Pineapple with some honeyed sweetness, completed with the citrus pineapple-infused rum, manuka, citrus and ginger beer. Love that big ice cube in the middle of the glass, acting as a platform for the decorations. The alcohol content was not very strong, so it's perfect for a light drinker like me.

Dusk - $16

Desserts are less boring when you paired them with some cocktails.

Desserts, drinks and Cocktail

The caramelised top layer of the Burnt Cheesecake was fragrant. The matcha taste was not overpowering and not bitter. The smooth and creamy dessert was plated with yuzu sorbet as well as some creams.

Matcha Basque Burnt Cheesecake - $16

The dessert is best paired with their cocktail, Brightside.

For the Yuzu Lover who loves a bit of zesty and sour flavours, the Exotique that features Japanese Yuzu curd within a coconut mousse is awesome.

Exotique - $16

Their plated desserts are definitely eye-pleasing and come with zesty lime sorbet. This is best paired with the cocktail, Pit of the Plum.

Into the Curd

Their sourdough Pizzas are all handcrafted. With tomato as base, ingredients on the 10" size pizza is generous with adequate cheese and corn kernals. Edge of the crust was crispy and chicken was BBQ flavoured.

Sour Dough Pizza (BBQ Chicken) - $18 (10 Inch)

The size is recommended for 1-2 pax sharing, however, if you are ordering other food or dessert, 3-4 pax would be better with this pizza cut into 8 slices. The taste was good,  however, the thickness of the dough base is rather slim and fragile as it gets disintegrates easily.

To add on, their service was commendable. The server was patient in explaining the cocktails and recommending food items to us.
