Burnt Cones

We already have in the mind one particular chained Ice Cream shop in Sunset Way, my friends introduce me to Burnt Cones while we were on the way back home.

Burnt Cones opened its door in December 2020 with a passion to bring people together with good food and coffee in the quaint neighbourhood of Sunset Way.

The place was homely and cosy but seats were rather limited. The service was friendly too. For those who enjoy varieties, they have a good spread of flavours for us to choose from too.

Their Gelato is made of Natural Ingredients and in small batches. They are also 96% Fat-Free which makes me feel good as I can enjoy it without much guilt.

Highly recommended by my friend for its dark chocolate, I decided to give it a try. The texture of the Dark Chocolate Gelato was velvety and the chocolate was rich enough.

Since it was a takeaway, I will like to make a return trip to dine in the house and enjoy other flavours in the air-conditioned environment.

Nearing to end of the month, I revisited the same place with other kakis. We ordered their Waffle with 3 scoops of Ice Cream and were kind of shocked at the pricing. We had coconut Lychee, Dark Chocolate and Pistachio. In fact, these are the combinations of their Special Type of Small Batch of Gelato. The coconut lychee had a special punch of coconut with a subtle taste of the lychee while the Sicilian Bronte Pistachio was rich fragrant and smooth.

Eventasty一碗田 Noodle Bar

Eventasty Noodle Bar is located at the quiet corner of Funan Digital Mall. The indoor seating are within Funan Digital Mall, air-conditioned while the outdoor seating was on the corridor walkway of Funan Digital Mall.

The side dish is good with mild spiciness. It is something good to munch on if you are a fan of Century egg.

Tofu with Century Egg 金典皮蛋豆腐- $3

Those who have been going around for Hotpot will understand that Tomato Soup base has gradually gained popularity over the years. Eventasty's tomato soup was put to simmer for about 6 hours and it's considered unique on its own in Singapore. The beef was well braised and tender.

Tomato Soup with Braised Beef Noodle 金典番茄牛肉面 - $12.90

Needless to say, the Tomato broth was amazingly great. La Mian texture was springy and chewy. Besides having braised beef in tomato soup, there are peas and corn kernels too.

Braised Beef

The use of Goji Berries in Pork Bone Soup had enhanced its sweetness. Pieces of Pork were soft and tender. La Mian texture was similar to the tomato soup with some bounciness in them.

Quality and standard of food is there. One good note is that they pride themselves with that No MSG was used

Chin Huat Live Seafood

Making my first visit to Chin Huat Live Seafood at Sunset way. It is quite a shame that I have been hearing about this reputable Seafood place in Sunset way since my school days but never had a chance to sit and dine in at this place. The interior was modern and the layout is similar to the Chinese restaurant with an elegant table cloth over the round tables in the dining area.

Chin Huat Live Seafood
The experienced manager whom came to our table to take orders was amiable. We took her advice on the dishes we ordered and was satisfied at the end of the session with every food served. Servers were attentive and up to the mark.

Choosing Live Seafood

The poached Geoducks are absolutely worth mentioning. Being a seasonal item on the menu, we were lucky to enjoy these Geoduck poached in Premium Japanese Soy Sauce, topped with fresh crunchy bean sprouts.

Bamboo Clam 白灼象拔蚌 - $16.80 Each

Seafood freshness is beyond any doubt especially when these Bamboo Clams were served steamed where freshness of seafood is expected.

Cross Section of Bamboo Clams

Before having these crustaceans on the table, we had them picked from the storage tanks fresh. The Boston Lobster was on Promotion Price and we got to take of picture of them holding it alive. This Lobster was served in 3 dishes and we had them as a cold dish on the first dish.

Boston Lobster 波士顿龙虾 - $259.60 (Promotion Price)

Shell of the Crustacean was decked up by a heap of shaved ice with some meat stacked up by the side of it covered with luscious salad cream sauce. The sweet medium flavour lobster was firm in texture and has a rich taste.

The Cooked Lobster

The 2nd dish we had from the lobster was doles out from the kitchen in soup form. We were all served individually with a claypot. The naturally sweet tasting soup comprises of the meat of the lobster mixed with carrot, mushrooms and spring onions. I thought it was unique to be served in this style.

Soup

The last part of the 3 dishes from the lobster will be this outstanding plate of wet bee hoon. The plate of Bee Hoon was packed with "Wok Hei" taste and up to the mark. The sweet gravy coupled with the lobster meat was simple and yummy. Other ingredients include beansprouts, leek, carrot and coriander.

Bee Hoon

What a great style to serve Sri Lanka Crab! This species of crab is most commonly consumed in Singapore and its plump succulent meat never disappoints. While we usually have these crabs cooked with the mainstream flavours like black pepper, chilli, or even salted egg crab, the Sales Manager recommended that this crab can be served in their pumpkin sauce.

Sri Lanka Crab 招牌斯里兰卡金黄蟹 (南瓜汁)- $96.86, Fried Buns - $6

The execution of pumpkin sauce over the crab was quite similar to a salted egg flavour. If not for the clarification with the friendly Sales Manager, we would have thought Salted Egg was part of the ingredient. She explained that the real pumpkin was mashed after steaming to make the sauce, therefore the powdery texture. The taste was enhanced with some curry leaves and birds eye chilli.

The golden sauce cooking style involves deep frying process which may cause the meat to stick to the crab shell, however this scenario is not an indication of the freshness of the crab.

I want to have this again! I mean the Sauce :)

It is not very often we get to dine in at a live seafood restaurant and this was a rare occasion. Service was impeccable and the food standard was better than average. The experience in Chin Huat Live Seafood certainly gave every one of us a good impression.

The Japanese Food Alley

After numerous visits and tries, it finally did not leave me disappointed as The Japanese Food Alley is in operation on the day I went.

The Japanese Food Alley

Apparently, one of the guys who is manning the stall is Japanese as his accent was different from the locals. This humble food stall offers delightful and comforting Japanese Food at a pocket-friendly price without comprising the food quality.

The Califonia Roll is the most common sushi roll to be on the menu. It was served on a long plate with it cut into 8 uniform pieces. The ingredients were simple with the vinegared rice encompassing crunchy Japanese cucumber, creamy avocado, crab stick, Tamago and seaweed.

Califonia Roll - $9.90

The portion of don may be little for some. The execution of Egg & Unagi Don was not common to me for it was tucked with some pickled vegetables. The taste of the egg was good with hints of sweet mirin, nonetheless, the sauce is inadequate and the rice was lacking in taste.

Egg & Unagi Don - $10.90

The texture of the Ramen was firm and the Miso Ramen Cha Shu Bomber is worth the price paying for. Served with a number of pieces of tasty Cha Shu, corn kernels, Nori Seaweed and Kombu.

Tonkotsu Miso Ramen Cha Shu Bomber - $12.90

The broth was good. The only setback I had was that the egg was not what I had expected ~ it was not Onsen Egg.

Although they are only a hawker stall from the coffee shop, the menu of The Japanese Food Alley is rather extensive. After the first encounter with their food, it's most probably I want to be back for other dishes too.

Jumbadog

This west side establishment specialise in hotdogs, serving footlong hot dog in varieties. I came to know of these hot dogs over the social media.

Jumbadog

Getting bored of the repeated oriental and local meals from the Hawkers, we decided to make a trip down to NEWest and try out these Hot Dog buns.

The fries tasted quite ordinary just that these Skinny Fries were topped with Mentaiko and Tobiko.

Taste of Thailand

Having visited Taste of Thailand in Yishun Industrial many years back, it is always my wish to revisit them again. I was excited to see them in Sin Ming Industrial as I chanced by the place. No doubt that it was a weekend where one would have expected the industrial area to be quiet, but the place had thrown me a surprise. On the reverse, it was bustling with large tables of patrons in the canteen enjoying their Thai Feast. The kitchen was busy as well as the ordering counter.

Taste of Thailand 泰国小食

Although the kitchen was busy, our food gets served swiftly without us having to wait too long.

Dishes Ordered

Chicken with Honey Sauce came in cubes and each piece of chicken was well coated with Honey sauce and tasty to pair along with rice.

Chicken with Honey Sauce 泰式密汁鸡 - $13 (Small)

We preferred pineapple rice over plates of white rice. Though it was not the best I had, I would say the rice was decently fragrant topped with a generous amount of meat floss coupled with some Chinese sausage bits.

Pineapple Rice 黄梨炒饭 - $5 (Small)

It was pretty adventurous to order this dish as I remembered having a similar dish from another Cze Char Stall but it left me with great disappointment. However, the fried bitter gourd with salted egg here is a good combination. The bitterness had blended in well with the salted egg and was not as bad as I thought.

Fried Bittergourd with Salted Egg 咸蛋苦瓜 - $10 (Small)

Prawn Omelette was fluffy with crispy edges.

Prawn Omelette 虾仁蛋 - $12 (Small)

The Tom Yum Soup tasted more like Tomato soup but I'm a fan of such soup too. This Tom Yum Seafood soup has prawns, squid and fish as the seafood ingredients. Other ingredients include ginger, lemongrass, cabbage and lime leaf.

Tom Yum Soup - $8 (Small)

We left the place with a satisfying stomach. Taste of Thailand just never fails to provide a tasty cuisine experience all this while.

Mini Wok

A good recommendation by the parents on the healthy choice of Teochew Style Sliced Fish Porridge from this mini wok stall next to my favourite western food place, The Little Grill. I have never patronise other stalls in the coffeeshop other than the Western Food Stall till this visit.

Stall of Mini Wok

Fish soup was no doubt tasty and cooked with a generous amount of sliced fish and bitter gourd. Just like any execution of Teochew Fish Porridge, seaweed was given and fried shallots were used to enhance the flavours.

Sliced Fish porridge - $5.50

I'm quite please with the thickness of fish slices given and quality of it.
Thickness and Quality

If you are someone who takes chilli, dip these slices into the chilli and have a good spicy and tangy kick together. It really tasted good!
