The Voice Taiwanese Cuisine

The Voice Taiwanese Cuisine is an obscure stall located in an old landed housing estate. With its far-flung location away from Beauty World MRT station, I'm quite surprised that the crowd of the coffee shop during lunch hours is still reasonable.

Bento was served with Popcorn chicken, braised pork and eggs on top of short-grain pearl rice. Pork Belly has a good balance of lean meat as well as fatty meats. The braised pork belly was slowed cook with aromatic soy sauce.

Pork Intestine Mee Sua was tasty and the taste was rather average. Though the taste of fried intestine is adequate, it's still lacking the taste that will make me want to have more. I was recommended to add oysters at an additional cost.

The oyster is relatively good in size and fresh.

Packaging

Though their geographical location is not too ideal, I observed that there are delivery services on going too and the food turnover is still there. The Voice Taiwanese Cuisine has no GST, Service Charge as well as packaging charge which is at an advantage of the consumers.

Chong Jia Food

Haven't been visiting Pasir Panjang Food Centre for some time and recently we just found out that there are a number of relatively new stalls since our last visit. We decided to hit on the Taiwanese Cuisine this time round from Chong Jia Food. After some communication with the stall owners, I find that they do have a friendly service.

Stall of Chong Jia Food

Their menu was rather straightforward, with 2 main dishes, Taiwanese Braised Pork of Minced Pork Rice / Noodle coupled with a few side dishes like braised egg, braised beancurd skin as well as braised peanuts.

Menu

Taiwanese Minced Pork Rice was said to be their signature. The minced meat was well braised and tasted well with the plain white rice. The set comes with a bowl of egg soup that has a faint sweet taste, perfect pairing to the main dish

Taiwanese Minced Pork Rice Set 招牌肉燥饭套餐 - $5

The food is presentable with items placed in circular surrounding the white rice. What makes it special was the homemade garlic sauce that accompanied the set. Do not worry as the sauce does not have strong garlic after taste.

Are you ready for some Taiwanese Minced Pork Rice

The Braised Pork Belly is commendable too. The amount of braised was of the right amount and was not salty or too sweet. The pork was moist and the number of fats was well balanced with lean meat. I love its texture as it literally melts in our mouth. Likewise, the set comes with peanut, braised egg and shredded lettuce.

Taiwanese Braised Pork Belly Set 台式卤肉饭套餐 - $5

The dish is simple and served with short-grain rice sprinkled with some black sesame seeds just like those we had in Taiwan. The texture was more sticky than the usual home cook rice and goes very well with the braised meat and items.

Having tried their food, I do not mind going back to have the same dishes but with noodles this time.

Ivy's Hainanese Herbal Mutton Soup

Stumble upon this stall during my visits to Pasir Panjang Food Center and it has been long in my mind that I will want to try them one day but the thing that holds me back every time is my concern on the heartiness after consuming mutton. Coincidentally, that day was raining and the weather temperature was cooler than usual, thus we decided to go for something hot. Drinking Mutton Soup is very comforting especially on a rainy day.

Stall of Ivy's Hainanese Herbal Mutton Soup

I was shocked to see that the smallest portion costs $13 considering a dish that sells in Hawker Center but since I have been longing to eat this, I just told myself to try it. Frankly speaking, there are no regrets. The Hainanese Style of Mutton Soup is definitely different from the ones I usually had. The broth is robust and of course flavourful.

Herbal Mutton Soup - $13 (Small)

The mutton soup is served in a traditional clay pot and is only cooked upon ordering. They have different variations in the menu. Patrons can choose, a mix of mutton meat, shanks, leg meat or tendons. I like the part whereby the herbal soup fragrant lingers along the walkway of every table that has a pot of mutton soup on their table from Ivy's. The Herbal has rich flavours and ingredients in the mutton soup consists of Wolfberries, Tau Pok, black Fungus, mushrooms and spring onions.

Tau Pok & Ingredients

There is no gamey taste of mutton and no overpowering flavours in the pot. It was a total different mutton soup that I ever had all these years.

Look at the colour of the broth

The dish is indeed unique on its own and maybe pricy as it seems but the taste and quality of standards say it all. There will be a second visit from me definitely.

Ah Tiam Curry Rice 亚添咖喱饭

The last I went to Pasir Panjang was almost a year back and recently when I was back there, I noticed some new stall fronts at we decided on Curry Rice. Before we know anything, the queue was formed subsequently behind us.

Set C, The Braised Pork Belly set is served with stir-fried Chinese cabbage, sunny side up egg and none other than their braised pork belly accompanied by rice with curry sauce.

Set D is served with mixed pork patty, stir-fried Chinese cabbage as well as sunny side up on the rice drenched with curry sauce

All in all, the texture of the rice was too soggy for me and the taste of curry and the signature items were just too average.

Original Botak Jones

In the past when we talked about Western Food, we would shout "Botak Jones, Botak Jones" as this was the popular Western Food in Coffee Shop. For a period of time, Botak Jones has left the Western Food Chain but now it has revived again.

Just in front of the stall, there is a big PRISM television display on their menu items. Like most of the stalls, patrons are given the buzzer after ordering the food so they can pick the food up when its ready to be served.

All entrees come with spicy fries and coleslaw or any two of the regular side dishes. Botak Jones pride the Cajun Chicken as one of their signature dishes. I love the mozzarella cheese that melts on top of the marinated chicken. The way they are char-grilled over medium heat is good as this retains the juices minimising the meat turning dry during the process. The chicken breast is moist but not to die for as the spicy Cajun Sauce had kind of taken away, numbing my taste buds. Luckily I had the Regular Portion, even though portion looked a bit small, I was already struggling to finished up my meal.

Cajun Chicken - $7.50 (Regular)

The NZ Ribeye Steak comes in 250g for $23 or 350g for $29.50. The quality of ribeye used was prime steer grain-fed. The steak was hand marinated in order to tenderize it and enhance its flavour.

The Ribeye steak was accompanied by brown sauce to dip in and I guessed we had ordered the wrong sides as the Cajun Fries were spicy for our liking.

The Mushroom Soup can be topped up as a side for $1 but however if you are ordering it as a side, it will cost $3 a bowl. I love the texture of the mushroom soup as they have chunks of mushrooms and onions in eat added with some cheese. The pulling strands of cheese feel are special.

Overall, I felt that the standard of food is nothing to shout at. For Western food, there are a lot of better ones out there and as a coleslaw lover, the Coleslaw taste here do not have the oomph that I'm looking for.

Bread Street Kitchen

Updated November 2021

There have been numerous trips to MBS recently on our end for errands and it just happens that the mealtime coincides, thus we got a chance to dine there. We decided to revisit Bread Street kitchen after 4 good years and since it was an impromptu (without reservation) decision, we were left with the choice of dining at bar counters in which we were perfectly fine with it.

The service is friendly and professional as usual. We took our orders and the basket of assorted bread and butter was served shortly. Out of the assorted bread, I'm in love with their focaccia bread with cheese.

I love these out of all others that night. The Seared scallops come in a plate of 3 and we added another 1 for $8 to make it 4. The seared scallops were decked with sweet corn ragout and topped with n'duja chimichurri. The combination of sweet taste from the scallops and corns with a little sourish from the chimichurri is perfect.

Seared Scallops
Seared Scallops - $25 + $8

Though the price remains the same since 2017, there are differences in the dish. The portion was smaller when compared and the section of meat used from the pig is definitely different. We still enjoy the upper luscious cracking layer of the skin however the experience was not so fantastic with bones in it.

Besides the glistering surface of the Pork belly that makes the dish stands up, I will comment that the combination of Apple Puree and mustard jus to the meat is wonderful.

Adding the mustard jus

The mashed potato was surprisingly good. It looks like dough in a bowl too but the texture was way above what we can imagine. It was smooth and creamy.

Mashed Potato - $10

The Roasted Black Cod was served with mashed potatoes, salted capers, artichoke, red wine & lemon sauce. The Mashed Potato that decked the black cod tasted more flavourful as compared to the side order we had. There were hints of herbs taste in it.

While we have expectations of the food in Bread Street Kitchen, the slow-roasted Pork Belly was a disappointment. The first time we had it did leave the dish a good impression but it seems that the standard is no longer the same.

The industrial warehouse designed restaurant and bar, Bread Street Kitchen, which modeled after its London counterparts are serving a British-European menu in this bustling place of Singapore, Marina Bay Sands or MBS in Short. For those that do not know, this is the celebrity chef, Gordon Ramsay's 2nd Restaurant in Asia.

Without reservation, we manage to grab a table as "walk-in" customer for limited timing as pre-agreed with the servers. Avoiding the weekend crowd, we went in the early evening and luckily got a table by the side of the window, a lovely corner good for people watching.

The assorted complimentary bread was served lukewarm with a block of margarine at the side. It was refillable and interestingly served in an assorted where you can enjoy different texture.

Love the checkered flooring and the laid back feel of the restaurant. Though furnishing may be dim in colors but during the day time with natural lights coming in from outside, it turns out to be very bright. I bet that when night falls, it's going to be very cozy and romantic here!

Besides the sparkling water we had, we ordered a glass of vanilla milkshake. Pretty ordinary with not much of a strong vanilla taste. The milkshake was topped with chocolate bits and smaller marshmallows.

Simply looks like eating something from the part of the bark of the tree as the dish was served on an earthy log. Roasted veal carpaccio was smokey, not gamey and brought together beautifully with the runy quail's egg, dill pickles mix in tuna dressing. What an appetizer that balance the flavor and texture!

The cider Onion soup was awesome, it was not too creamy or gelat for us. We were very please about its pleasant taste and the 3 cheddar cheese toastie that floats.

The must-order dish when you are in Bread Street Kitchen. Indulging the traditional fish & chips we do find in London, a large chunk of it fried to its golden brown perfection with big cut chips. The thin and crispy batter had been well executed and holds the fish as a whole. Besides having the homemade Tartar sauce and lemon wedges by the side, there is minted scented crushed peas to complete the meal.

Pork belly? Really? Our kind of Chinese "Sio Bak" (Roasted Pork Belly) being served right here in Bread Street Kitchen. The external layer of Pork Belly was crisply done up leaving a good crackling bite while the pork literally melts in our mouths.

What pondered us was that how did they manage to make the bite so crispy without compromising the juiciness taste in the pork belly meat.

Awesome! Moreover, the paring of spice apple puree makes it different, love the fresh tartness from the apple and they did marry well with the slab of Pork Belly.

We did manage to dine within the time limit and all went well despite the 20-30 minutes wait upon getting our food. For those who wish to make a visit, do remember to make a reservation early to avoid disappointment. Overall service was attentive and friendly, I won't mind coming back again if its for special occasion.

Pranakorn

Having passed by this Authentic Thai Food Restaurant in Changi Village for the unkempt times, I finally got a chance to dine there. The interior was modern and the external seats were quite rustic, similar to some other Thai restaurants.

Pranakron

I have always enjoyed having Thai Milk Tea as they have a distinct tea taste that the English Milk Tea doesn't have. The Thai Milk Tea was good but unfortunately, the Thai Green Milk Tea was on a diluted side.

Homemade Traditional Thai Green milk Tea & Thai Milk Tea - $3.80 & $3 Respectively

It's been a long time since I had Thai Red Curry. The dish can be served with Pork or Chicken, Rice or noodles. Thai Red Curry is on a sweeter side as compared to Singapore's curry and for spicy level, I guess this dish has been tailored to suit Singaporeans' tastebuds ~ it's almost not spicy at all.

Red Curry with Chicken in Rice - $7.80

Ingredients include tomato, long beans and chicken. The Red Curry caught my appetite and I can finish the big plate of white rice just with the bowl of curry.

Yummy Red Curry!

Take a look at the ingredients in the curry. There was a generous portion of meat.

Red Curry Ingredients

Egg Omelette can be done with minced pork or prawn and we chose the latter. Prawns were small in size though egg was well presented in shape, it was a tad dry for me.

Egg Omelette - $10

The Stir-Fried Thai Vermecilli comes with chicken meat version if you prefer that to Seafood and vegetables. The execution of the dish was more towards a wet version with natural sweet taste from the eggs as well as the seafood.

Stir Fried Thai Vermecilli with Vegetables and Seafood- $9.80

Do not underestimate the spicy level of this side dish. Initially, the spicy level was still bearable but as we keep popping the food into the mouth, the fiery sensation comes. The Papaya Salad can be served with salted egg for an additional $2.

Spicy Thai Green Papaya Salad - $6.80

The price overall is reasonable with no GST and service charge. As for the food, they tasted decent to me.
