Wildfire Kitchen

Nestled among the shops in Evan Road, taking over my favourite brunch place, Hatch will be the attention catching Neon lightings of Wildfire Kitchen + Bar which serves Gourmet Burgers, Chargrilled steaks, all day breakfasts and even craft beers.

It's presence came to my surprise as I was still in thought that Hatch is still part of the stretch. I was so not used to their big neon signage that marks Wildfire kitchen and Bar now.

Wildfire Kitchen + Bar
Interior was laid back just like it used to be in Hatched and there is a bar counter for those who like to chill and grab some drinks.

Environment
Though Buzzer system were in place, we were lucky that the friendly helpers still served our orders right up to our tables.

Buzzer
Awww... it seems like there is not much choice for the man who drives. In the end, he ordered a can of A&W root beer.

A & W - $3
Initially, I was quite skeptical about the kind of fresh juices they are serving as many times, I realized cafes / restaurants are serving juices from prepacked juices rather than juicing themselves. Not knowing too many green apples juices from the shelves, I decided to order them and luckily they came in fresh by the juicer.

Green Apple Juice - $6.50
Onion rings were deep fried to golden brown with batter puffing up around the sliced onion. Crispy and scrumptious for a start while waiting for our burgers. Dip these non-greasy rings into the spicy thousand island sauce, whetting your appetite.

Onion Rings -$8
Never expected burgers to be served in small oval saucer plate with fries at its side. This made us additional careful when dining as we do not want to spill / waste any food. Triple Bacon came with 120 Day Grain Fed Beef Patty in combination of Butterhead Lettuce, Bacon Weave, Bacon Jam, Beer Caramelised Onions, Cheddar Cheese and Baconnaise Suace. Like any gourmet burgers they offered in there, the buns were toasted to glossy outlook and with a whiff of buttery fragrance.

Triple Bacon - $19
A more embellished version than the former, likewise using 120 Day Grain Fed Beef Patty with Baby Spinach, Bacon Weave, Rosti, Parmesan Crisp, Tempura Onion Rings, Fried Egg, Sliced Tomatoes, Beer Caramelised Onions, Guacamole and their Signature Master Sauce. Overwhelmed by its ingredients, the buger is packed full of flavour.

The Works - $23

Close up
Burgers are decent over here. With portion looking small in its plate but in fact it was actually quite filling to the tummy. The only gripe I had was that burgers buns were rather greasy. If you asked if I will come back again for their burgers, they wont be in my primary choice.

Eggs & Berries [Closed]

Having been to their outlet in Changi City Point, I was already quite happy to have them setting up new store in the West and just not that, they have 2 outlets in the West, in Westgate and Jurong Point.

Eggs & Berries

Emphasizing on eggs cooked in various healthy ways with no MSG added, calories counting diners may enjoy dining here without having too much headaches.

Internal seats were all occupied on a usual Saturday when I visited. We took the external seats kicking off with a cup of coffee.

www.umakemehungry.com
Black Coffee - $4.50
Having said that, there is a range of Smoothies worth trying and I have ordered their recommendation.

Refreshingly cool smoothies to the stomach with a mixture of berries using Strawberry together with raspberry, honey, milk and vanilla. Simple with attractive pink soothing to the eyes.

Berries Berries - $6.50
The chef's picks - Eggs Florentine was served with 2 Poached Eggs with muffins, cured salmon, asparagus and spinach.

www.umakemehungry.com
Eggs Florentine - $13.90
The eggs left me with disappointment as it was overcooked and the flow of yolk was not as consistent as expected.

Flow of Yolk

All Time Favorite on their menu will be their in house Eggs Benedict. Since Eggs & Berries' specialties are all onto their eggs, having this just won't go wrong. Serving with almost identical ingredients with Eggs Florentine just that the differences are with the bacons and honey baked ham, without asparagus.

Eggs & Berries Eggs Benedict - $13.90
With them expanding their menu into the main courses as well as pastas, it is likely I will be back to dine again perhaps at their different outlet. So far, services from eggs & berries were rather responsive and friendly.

Majestic Bay

Bringing our Guest to Garden By the Bay was planned and so was the dinner. I have never heard of Majestic Bay until it was brought up by my colleague who frequent the place. It is located in Gardens By The Bay, below Flower Dome and opposite the entrance of Cloud Forest.

Majestic Bay
Soothing wood tones and tastefully chosen crockery and linens create a homey, welcoming vibe among the Gardens. With transparent glass panels overlooking to the path where people are strolling, cycling or even jogging in the evenings did boosts one's energy in one way of another seeing lively activities around.

Warmly welcome by fish tanks of live seafood while we make our way into the restaurants to our seats. For those who are having live seafood, get to choose their catch of the day from the tank.

Menu came in hard copy as well as digital format. I thought it was good to have dishes illustrated in the electronic device as the hard copy menu has no pictures for someone like our guest who was not so familiar with Chinese Cuisine.

Digital Menu

Xiang Pian (Jasmine) Pot of Tea - $3 per head
Meal started interestingly with the Trio Prawns Platter, with a long plate divided into 3 section with Salad Dressing, Lemon Butter Milk Dressing and Wasabi Dressing respectively.

Trio Prawns Platter (12 pieces) - $38
Salad Dressing was lightly coated on the battered prawn with basil seeds and little mango cubes.

Salad Dressing

While prawns of the middle portion has cute little slices of turnip as garnishing.

Lemon Butter
Wasabi flavored prawns on the other hand was sweet without overpowering its taste, basil seeds and caviar were included too.

Wasabi Flavoured
Having double boiled soup served in coconut is definitely a new addition to my dictionary. Assorted seafood like prawns, scallop, fish maw were included with mushrooms and white fungus.

Double Boiled Assorted Seafood Soup in Whole Young Coconut - $16
Soup was light and mostly filled of fish maw taste but not too overpowering.

Close up
Undeniably the best Espresso Pork Ribs I had ever eaten. I'm not a coffee person but this boneless and lean pork ribs were wholly aromatic and light on the palate. Simply love its evenly coated Expresso Coffee Sauce over the tender ribs.

Pork Ribs in Espresso Coffee Sauce - $24
Sauteed asparagus was well stirred fried with fried garlic, carrots as well as mushrooms. Asparagus were totally crunchy and "sold out" on our table very soon after it was served.

Sauteed asparagus and wild mushroom with garlic - $24

Serving brought me a surprise as it was quite small. However, the miniatures abalone had stolen the scene. It was topped together with chopped carrot cubes as well as spring onions on the softened Mee Sua.Unfortunately, the taste of the broth came with a strong hint of seafood smell, more towards the crustaceans taste and wasn't too pleasing to everyone of us on the table, thus we ended up wasting abit of the food.

Stewed Mee Sua with Baby Abalone - $28

Ending my meal with a cooling bowl of double boiled Chinese Pear snow Fungus and peach gum to soothe my going-to-sore throat. It really aids in soothing the system down.

Double Boiled Chinese Pear with Snow Fungus and peach gum (hot/cold) - $6

While the Guest chose the fresh mango puree with chendol coconut strips and was too, happy about such selection.

Fresh Mango Puree with Chendol Strips - $6

Servings seemed petite initially yet keep our groaning empty stomachs full at end of everything. Overall Majestic Bay reminds me of some Chinese Fine Dining. Besides its strategic location in Gardens By the Bay, I would say it was a good recommendation to bring a guest there as the ambiance was quiet with attentive services from the working team. Totally suitable for causual business meet ups. After all my guest from aboard seemed to be satisfied with this dinner.

Singapore Fried Hokkien Mee

My colleagues were talking about the best Hokkien Mee in Singapore and few of them suggested Singapore Fried Hokkien Mee in Whampoa Hawker Centre. From what they said that really stirred the interest in me. Besides having known the place for their fish head steamboat, rojak and chicken rice, I never recalled trying Hokkien Mee in this vicinity, perhaps if I do its like couple of years back where the place was before their upgrading scheme.

Singapore Fried Hokkien Mee Stall Front
With so many Hokkien Mee stall in one place, don't get your attention drift to somewhere else. Business name is easily remember with "Singapore" as the keyword and queues at the stall was ongoing. What I find funny was that instead of serving plates of Hokkien Mee through their main stall entrance, there was this lady who stood at the metal ladder steps from the side of the stall and all orders are to be made and served there.

Mee (Noodles) were cooked in batches and fortunately even though the queue was long, my wait was less than 10 minutes.  At the first look of the plate, presentation looked standard with squid, lime, mixture of yellow and white bee hoon with a scoop of chilli filled with lots of seeds.

Fried Hokkien Mee - $4 (Small)
No doubt the wetness level maybe adequate with a gooey appearance, it lacked the oomph and did not really meet my expectation of this highly raved plate of Hokkien Mee. Seafood flavours were not distinctively enough and it did not really help even by relying on their Sambal Chilli to enhance the taste.

Close Up
Hopefully such thing was a once off thing, perhaps the time of visit was not too right but still we had all taken noted they were one of Singapore's favourite with such long queue.

Harry's

Opening its door since May 2015, Harry's has did a revamp not only in their menu but had also strengthened its market presence with well decorated environment, having new themes for their branches.

Harry's Main Entrance

Harry's Side Door

Old School Bike

Quote
For instance, the theme of Harry's in this branch was purely on "Travel".

Environment
Ambiance was very different from the usual bar I have gone to even though the place by default has given us a relaxing feel.

Travel Quote
There was another section in Harry with sofa chairs and travel decorations. Its like travelling on a time machine into another world.

Another Section

Black & White poster

With traveling theme, there was one portion on the wall with maps and different timing on a few countries.

Time Traveling
Having things like this will make patrons like me feel nostalgic.

Gramophone
Since Harry's is reputable for its Western Bar, Pub image, there are no surprise to see so many bottles of alcohols on the elegant shelving.

Bar

To know more about them, take a good look at the Harry's beverage menu.

Beverage Menu

Starting of with the small plates, pairing with Harry's Signature Premium Lager was simply enjoyable to wind down oneself after a long day of work under such cool environment.

Harry's Premium Lager - $13

And this coaster just came right in the time with words saying "I used to think drinking was bad for me...so I gave up thinking." At that instance, I cant agree more on that.

Don't you think so?

Fish Crackling was a perfect kick off to the wonderful evening giving a good sense of crispy bites. Made from Eel Fish and lavished with spring onions as well as their in house spice mix. Flavour of this crackling just wouldn't run out if you dip them Aioli which bring such simple side plate to another level with creamy mayo and garlic taste.

Fish Crackling - $13
Great for a start and perfect for a pint! Their Signature Wings are something you should not be missing when you enter Harry's. These wings were not firey hot despite of the chilli padi that was demonstrated. Dressed in their secret spice and deep fried into its fragrant condition, they were part of the ultimate treat in the night. For those who like extra dose of spicy kick, you may enjoy them with their homemade chilli Jam.

Harry's Signature Wings - $13 (6 pcs), $19 (10Pcs)
A wonder mixture of blue swimmer crab meat with potatoes can never go wrong.Deep fried and giving a light crunch, to enjoy it at the fullest, dip them into the Sriracha Tomato Dip.

Crab & Potato Cakes - $19 (6 Pcs)
The miniatures burgers caught us off guard, it was too cute to be eaten. The mini buns were both toasted with juiciest steak, charred bell peppers and jalapeno cheese sauce sandwiched in between. They were served in trio with a acceptable spicy level.

Jalapeno Steak Sliders - $13

Look's what's sandwiched in between
It's so hard to skip having alcohol in Harry's afterall, they have given a perception that they did it best in serving alcholic beverages. Their signature cocktail of vodka, Dirty Harry, was served with brown sugar, lychee liqueur and a small wedge of lime, a perfect refreshing treat before going into the Big Plates.

Dirty Harry - $16

Enjoy one of the popular flavourful indian dish, chicken Masala with toasted charcoal bread under Harry's Big Plates in the menu. Chicken Masala was thick but it didn't get us bored by having the dish alone, in fact it was rich in spice and the charcoal bread stood in well to soak up the dish's essence.

Chicken Masala - $23

Charcoal Bread
The chicken were plump and tender. Just a look!

Chicken in the Masala
Wanna get more of blueswimmer crabmeat? Try out their spaghettini with freshly handpicked crabmeat, toasted pine nuts, fresh cut chillis all in the tangy tomato sauce topped with yummy rockets.

Crabmeat Spaghettini - $23
Washing down all the food, we have a perfect ending to the session with a glass of fruity Moscato together with the dessert.

Moscato - $13.50
I have never expected a pub serving such indulging dessert. This crisp tart were made up of thinly sliced apples on crust pastry with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream. The both sweet and saltish caramel sauce had given the experience to another stage.

Toffee Apple Crisp Tart - $14

The new tasting menu had given a surprise treat and change the perception of Harry's in me. I guess now Harry's have given additional choices to patrons not by just their alcoholic beverages but also the interesting bites.

Thanks OpenRice for the invitation and Harry's Bar Team for the hospitality.
