New Green Pasture Cafe, the vegan power!

Being a non vegetarian, I'm quite keen on Vegetarian Food whenever I heard good comments about a particular vegan eatery. Just like New Green Pasture Cafe, sometimes back they were on the local TV Program. The cafe is located in the famous Fortune Centre, an abode for the vegetarian eater at the 4th level.

New Green Pasture Cafe

As I stepped into the eating joint, it had given me a good ambience with its cosiness and laid-back style. Along the pathway to the cashier/ordering counter, you will get to see many interesting dishes photo pasted on the walls. They offes a range of cuisines, including Chinese, Western, Korean, Thai. What an impressive menu they had, it just make me feel like trying all.

Display of dishes
The seatings were rather limited, luckily there was not much people during our visit as we were quite early for dinner. The dining area was simple with a door linking to their store.

Seating

Although the foreceiling looked abit run down, the place was tidy and airy. Air was well ventillated by Fans and air-con.

Look at its rack of organic items, enjoy exploring a wide range of nutritious items at the back of the cafe.

Patrons had to make their order from the counter and food will be delivered shortly after payment.

I'm quite a herb person and this bowl of Herbal Mee Sua was delicious. The herbal taste had infused the entire bowl which somehow drowned myself into such a wonderful dinner. Herbal Mee Sua was make up of sweet corn cob, mushrooms and vegetables, not forgetting the wolf-berries and herbs.

Herbal Mee Sua - $8
Another spot on! Orh Lua Mee Sua, the vegetarian way! The bowl of mee sua tasted very close to the non vegetarian. What's more they had it with vinegar and coriander leaves added, enhancing its taste as well as fragrance.

Orh Lua Mee Sua - $8

This dish was actually ordered by my friend who freak out upon hearing that we would be having vegetarian for dinner that night. He practises carnivorous eating style but was rather pleased with the bowl of vegan delicacy. Come with thick white bee hoon, with bamboo shoots, Tau Ki, carrots as well as egg. Having tried its broth, I'm rather amazed by its standard.

Hainanese Noodle - $8
The long awaited dish which was served only after we had finished the food. They took a real long time to prepare the delicate roll. The first look at it had won me over as it was beautifully presented. It tasted like curry puff to us just that it was well executed in crepe and rolled up with cucumber slices placed in between the cut portions with the luscious mayo sauce to touch up the dish.

Sri Lankan Roll - $7
Look at the curry with the potatoes cubes as well as mock meat. Can you tell the difference if it wasnt from a vegetarian stall? Forget about the long waiting time, this is worth waiting for! The outlook of Sri Lankan Roll looked similar to one of the sushi dishes from Sushi Tei but this is a healthier version , tasty with a little bit of spiciness. What a lovely creation!

Edge of the Roll

Out of so many vegetarian eateries I went to, I find that New Green Pasture is considered very interesting for its range of food order. And with its unpretentious and homely food, it's definitely a place where one can make repeated visits to.

Penang Asam Laksa

It's not common we get to see Penang Cuisine in Singapore's Hawker Centre and what's more at an affordable rate which cost almost the same as a basic plate of chicken rice.

Specialising in Penang Cuisine, Jason has a variations to offer. His menu is different from Monday to Friday while some dishes like Penang Char Kway Teow and Assam Laksa are available daily.

I had a bowl of Assam Laksa over dinner and it was appetizing. It was sour and spicy enough throughout. An assortment of ingredients were added which includes pineapple cubes, fish, Heh Gor (Prawn Paste).

Assam Laksa - $3
For budget and common Penang dishes, Jason Penang Cuisine is definitely worth your tastebuds.

Delcie's

Delcie's Cakeshop is first and only bakery (2011, 2012, 2013) in Singapore that is awarded with the Healthier Choice Bakery Certification by Health Promotion Board.Tucked at one corner among the vegetarians and organic eateries in Fortune Centre, I came to know Delcie's through the local Television program.

It's a good choice for strict vegetarian  who wants to enjoy cake as they do not contain any eggs or diary product. Their cakes were baked naturally without any artificial content. What's more, they are allergy and diabetic friendly which is nutritious and sinless.

Delcie at Fortune Centre
Cakes were packed in a fun packaging like this which reminds me of McDonald's Happy Meal. Wordings on the cupboard had also emphasized that their cakes and desserts are organic, egg-free, diary free, diabetic friendly and guilt free.

Food Packaging

When I walked towards their display panels and noticed the price of their cakes, I had a shocked of my life. What? $11 for a piece of cake? I was hesitant but end up buying as I wanted to give it a try. To think back, since they are using all natural ingredients, this is probably why it was priced differently.

There was only one piece left and I thought shouldn't rainbow colors are of a lighting shades than these dark colors. Just like the rainbow, the cake was make up of 7 colors with a thin layer of cream in between each layer.

The first bite of it gave a big frown on both our faces. If you ever tried the chinese Huat Kueh (Brown Color), they tasted just like one. They were not sweet but rather bitter in between.

Rainbow Cake - $11

Black forest cakes were make up of berries jam ath the top layer with cream between the layers as well. While the rainbow cake tastes almost tasteless, this was the reversed. We agreed that the cake was way too sweet for us to handle. Yet another disappointment, 2 hit combo!

Black Forest Cake - $8

Perhaps I'm not really use to cakes without eggs nor I had sweet tooth for its Black Forest Cake. We felt shortchange by the quality and standards. They were not our cup of tea. We had bought an experience and its enough.

Siam Deli By Daily Culture

A few articles back, we had already mentioned about the Ayam Pengang by Indonesian Express and this Thai Cuisine is located at the same stretch of shops, perhaps a walk of 30 seconds away.

The exterior of the Siam Deli was adorn with authentic Thai Decor - the wooden sculptures featuring two Thai lady with palms facing each other in prayer mode that somehow relates the usual greetings from a Thai, "Sawadee ka", a form of saying Hello or Welcome to guests.

Siam Deli
Look at the counter, just by a look of it, you will know that its a Thai Restaurant.

The daily set meals were the most economical ones for individual dining as it comes with a plate of main dish and a bowl of clear Tom Yum Soup. A top up of $3 allow customers to enjoy a portion of their desert or a can of drink.

The Kway Teow Portion looks greasy however with the given lime juice, it will enhance the meal giving off a refreshing taste in the dish.

Fried Kway Tiaow Set - $6.50 (Set)

Grated green mango was used with fish sauce added in their dressing. These mangoes were firm  mixed with roasted peanuts, dried shrimps, onions and bird's eyes chilli. Crunchy and a very good appetizer to start the meal.

Mango Salad - $5
Chicken Fried Rice was ordinary, the usual seen of egg fried rice. However, its hard to catch sight of any chicken meat among those rice grains.

Chicken Fried Rice - $5

Like the Fried Kway Teow, beansprouts are given raw. Grated peanuts and beansprouts were segregated from the noodles, a good mix altogether had given out a sweet fragrance from the meal.
Not a bad choice though!

Chicken Phad Thai with Tom Yum Soup - $6.50 (Set)

The minced pork dish was strongly infused with the fragrance of Basil Leaves. Very good to go with our plain rice especially. Other than minced meat and rice, a fried egg was given and placed on top of the fragrant white rice.

Basil Chicken with Rice - $6.50 (Set)

Unwrapped the greased pandan leaves that had cuddled the marinated chicken within. You will notice that those leaves were so dry that it was torn easily. Pack with some charred tastes, these meat was tender and goes quite well with the meal. Personally, I felt that the sweet and sour chilli provided would have "killed" the original taste of these chicken, therefore I gave them a skip.

Pandan Chicken - $2 / Piece

Shiok! The clear Tom Yum Soup is tasty, comes with a slice of tomato, mushroom and fish with cut lemon grass added. Both fragrance and spiciness balance out well, refreshing!
Tom Yum Soup Clear Version that comes with Set

Overall, I find that the food is better than average perhaps the only rant I had is that they had to improve in the serving speed. But on the contrary, all good things come to those who wait. :). Price is relatively reasonable, what's more no service charge or GST is required.

Zhen De Hao

Recently I had noticed that there were a number of Steamed food setting up in more and more hawker centres that rythmes with the name "Zhen" which means "Steam" in mandarin. In such case, Zhen De Hao also means "Really Good" when translated just from the chinese pronunciation. Their style of serving was rather eye catching as the food was served with those wooden bamboo steaming trays.

These Steamed delights somehow are targeting at health conscious patrons and with its good spread of choices, there is no doubt that they had attracted lots of customers lining up in front of their stall during meal times.

Stall
Ordered 2 steamed dishes over our dinner. The meal comes along with a bowl of cabbages and carrot soup. It was light and tasted free of MSG and white rice is charged separately.

Rice - $0.50
Packed in a distinct ginger fragrance, the chicken was tasty but a little oily added with soften fungus. Overall, the food seemed to be prepared by using different method before putting into the steamer.

Fungus with Ginger Chicken - $4

Steamed egg was good! Smooth with minced pork as its bottom and flooded with a layer of light soy topped with spring onions.

Steamed Egg - $2.50
It's a value for money meal and was cheaper a little than the one I had in West Coast.

Jin Jin Hot/Cold Dessert

The normal bowl of Cheng Tng would cost $1.50 but this was a special edition bought on top of their usual bowl of Cheng Tng. The only thing special was that it was added with 2 big pieces of sweet potatoes, boiled and softened in texture. The Cheng Tng alone was cooling and not very sweet. However the shaved ice was not that fine as expected, was a little bit disappointed.

Cheng Tng with Sweet Potatoes - $2

Red Ruby, a common dessert that uses water chestnuts bites with tapioca flour and red coloring over it which gives a thin jelly like layer. While the bottom portion was make up of shaved ice with abundance of coconut milk adding fragrance to the bowl of lovely dessert.

Al-Ameen

Many of us had probably heard of Al-Ameen, the famous eating house which is located opposite of beauty world.  Their shop located in Chu Lin Road was not that bad either. Operating around the clock, they served a decent fare of Thai Muslim and Indian Food at an affordable pricing. When hunger pangs in the night, this is a spot where you can rely on!

Coffeeshop interior and crowd

Teh Tarik and all kinds of Gozilla, Dinosaur drinks you name it, they were all available in the Al-Ameen's menu. We ordered the common drinks such as Lychee and Limau ice. These sweet syrups were just part of their sweet drinks.

Lychee Ice ($2.50) & Limau Ice ( $1.50)

Though oily, chicken Marsala was real good. Served warm in a metal bowl, the chicken cubes were tender and skinless coupled by some garnishing.
Chicken Marsala - $7

Delicious cheese naans were placed before our eyes in a basket with dolly paper on its base. Look at the cheesy substances melted on the naan, they were what I'm dying for! Having ordered 2 pieces of them, they were stacked together and was sticked closely to one another when the cheese cooled down. Each piece of cheese naan was cut into quarters.

Cheese Naan - $7 for 2
When the yummies combined! What a perfect pairing. Just spread the marsala chicken on top of the cheese naan and enjoy the gastronomical food experience!

Chicken Marsala & Cheese Naan = Yummy

On a side note, if you are driving there, do watch out for carpark attendants if you were parking the side of the road opposite Al-Ameen. Nevertheless, the helpers were rather alert and would annouce the presence of the carpark attendants.

Cost: $18 for 2 pax
