Kelim Dakdoritang

While the Korean restaurant is housed in a conserved building with a well-preserved, nostalgic facade, stepping inside reveals a different story. The interior has been tastefully renovated into a vibrant space that perfectly captures the energy of a modern Korean eatery.

Non-Spicy

Enjoying my favourite army stew or better known as army stew in Korean. This ultimate comfort dish is always a winner with its spicy, savory broth loaded with instant noodles, sausages, luncheon meat, tofu, kimchi, and gooey melted cheese. Nothing beats the warm, rich flavors of a bubbling hot stew, especially when shared with friends or family!

Army Stew

One bite into the Grilled Pork Collar (Dwaeji Galbi), and I was hooked. The sweet, caramelized glaze over the succulent, smoky meat made each bite incredibly addictive. The pork collar was perfectly grilled to achieve that juicy, tender texture while locking in the deep flavors of the marinade.

Pairing it with fresh lettuce, garlic, and a dip in ssamjang (savory soybean paste) added another layer of flavorful contrast. The smoky aroma, the glistening glaze, and the satisfying bite.

If you're a grilled meat lover, Dwaeji Galbi is an absolute must-try.

Fried Fish Skin

There's something undeniably satisfying about a steaming bowl of Tteokbokki—those chewy rice cakes, bathed in a rich, spicy-sweet gochujang sauce, pack an irresistible kick with every bite.

The thick, glossy sauce coats each rice cake beautifully, delivering a perfect balance of heat, sweetness, and umami. The gentle chewiness of the tteok makes it oh-so-addictive, while the sauce lingers on the taste buds, leaving you craving more.

5PM Lalapot 五点啦啦煲 (Sutera Utama)

I've been hearing quite a bit of buzz about Lalapot in Johor Bahru, with many claiming it's the better hotpot option. Intrigued by the hype, my friends and I decided to plan a day trip to Sutera Utama, with dinner at Lalapot set for 5 PM. I'm excited to see if it lives up to its reputation!

5PM Lalapot 五点啦啦煲

As we arrived at Lalapot, we noticed that the restaurant was quite empty. It suddenly dawned on me that their business name actually refers to their opening hours—they start operations at 5 PM. Stepping inside, I found the place to be spacious and well-suited for large groups, making it an ideal spot for gatherings. However, one pet peeve we encountered was an intermittent sour smell that occasionally lingered,

Restaurant Interior

In one corner of the restaurant, patrons can enjoy a free flow of condiments, including Hua Diao Wine, Sesame Oil, Dark Soy Sauce, Light Soy Sauce, Spring Onions, and more.

Condiments Area

Lalapot offers quite a variety of soup bases, leaving patrons spoilt for choice. If you're unsure which to pick, you can always opt for their Best Sellers, which include the Signature Soup, Flaming Mala Soup, Herbal Wine Prawn Soup, and Coconut Chicken Pot.

Our Spread

It’s become quite a trend for Lala Hotpot places to prepare their Lala in a special way, where the chef cooks them right in front of the patrons with a huge flame at the table. This not only attracts attention but also creates a memorable experience, with many patrons eager to capture the moment on video.

Fire from Hotpot

I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement when I spotted "炸蛋" (fried egg) on the table. Fried egg is always my favorite when it comes to enjoying hotpot, as it adds an extra layer of flavor to the soup.

Fresh Egg | 炸蛋 - RM 6

While most of the items we ordered required some time to be cooked and served, we decided to get the Fried Taiwanese Sausage to munch on while waiting for our hotpot. However, the taste of the sausage was quite different from what I had expected. Its flavor reminded me of "Lup Cheong"—the cured sausage typically used in Hong Kong-style Claypot Rice.

Fried Taiwanese Sausage | 炸台湾香肠 - RM 8

Looking at the marbled Pork Slice, I was amazed by the uniformity of the marbling. It looked so enticing, almost as if it was calling out, “Come! Eat me.”

Marbled Pork Slice | 松阪猪 - RM 15

All soup bases come with 1kg of S Class White Clams, adding a generous touch to the hotpot experience.

First Love Tomato Soup | 酸酸甜甜番茄汤 - RM 38

Before adding the rest of the food into the hotpot, we took out the cooked Lala to make space for the other ingredients. Just imagine the tangy sweetness of the tomato soup infused with the natural seafood sweetness from the Lala—an irresistible combination.

Next, let’s give their handmade shrimp paste a try! It’s always exciting to taste something made in-house—it adds a unique flavor to the hotpot.

Shrimp Paste | 招牌手打虾滑 - RM 15

Even after we were done with the hotpot, the charcoal heat didn’t go to waste. T

Biscuits and Marshmallow

hey took the claypot away but left the charcoal behind, giving us the chance to barbecue marshmallows—such a fun and delicious way to end the meal!

BBQ Marshmallow

It was a great idea to sandwich the barbecued marshmallow between two biscuits and enjoy it. The warm, gooey marshmallow paired perfectly with the crunchy biscuits, making for a delightful treat to round off the meal.

Marshmallow & Biscuits

Overall, I found the soup base to be to my liking. When comparing it to other similar hotpot restaurants a few doors away, I was quite surprised that 5pm Lalapot is the crowd's preferred choice. It definitely left a strong impression, and I can see why it’s so popular.

Art Werkx

Back at Art Werkx again, this time for both food and some fun doing activities!

Art Werkx Pure Hands-On Fun

We ordered both sandwiches on the menu: the chunky chicken and smoked salmon sandwich. Each is served with chips and your choice of croissant or sourdough bread.

Chocolate & Strawberry Milkshake - $8 per glass

For the smoked salmon sandwich, we chose the croissant. It was delightfully flaky, though I must admit, I made a bit of a mess on the table! Pairing it with an addictive glass of strawberry milkshake was the perfect choice to start my day.

Smoked Salmon Sandwich (Served with Chips) - $13

For the chunky chicken sandwich, we opted for sourdough. The taste was a bit bland, but overall, it was still okay and made for a satisfying choice.

Chunky Chicken Sandwich - $13

Upon closer inspection, the chicken chunks weren’t too creamy, but they paired quite well with the sourdough, complementing each other nicely for a balanced bite.

Chunky Chicken

Crossiant

After our meal, we headed to the workshop for candle making. We were instructed to pick out our decoration items for the candles from the shelves, excited to personalize our creations.

Decorations

The workshop was neat and clean, with tools neatly hanging on the boards and essential items stored on hanging shelves.

Workshop

It created an organized and inspiring space for the creativity class.

Work Bench

After picking our decorations for the candle, we started melting the gel to make the candle, following clear instructions from the staff.

First Layer of Wax

Besides just gel and decorations like stones, shells, and leaves, we also got to choose our preferred colours and scents of essential oils.

Photo on our Candles

Here’s the top view of our product, waiting for the candle wick to be trimmed.

Long Candle Wick

Here’s the side view of the candle we made—doesn’t it look great?

End Product after wick was cut

Just before leaving the workshop, we were given a drawstring bag to keep our finished glass candle in. We also received cards to hang by the side of the string, indicating the make of the candle.

Product

Overall, I find that Art Werkx provides a great space for food and fills us with creativity as we engage in activities we enjoy. I wouldn’t mind returning for other different activities.

Labrador Nasi Lemak & Nasi Padang

Back here at Telok Blangah Hawker by chance with my friend for breakfast on a weekend. We initially planned to have Wanton Mee, but the stall was closed that day. So, we decided to go for some Muslim food instead, exploring a different side of the hawker's offerings.

Labrado Nasi Lemak.Nasi Padang

I decided to try the Lontong since I hadn’t had it from this stall before. The gravy was fragrant, with subtle hints of coconut milk that added a nice richness without being too spicy. It made for a comforting and warm bowl of breakfast—a satisfying way to start the day.

Lontong

The Lontong came with a whole egg, softened cabbages, and a delightful shrimp fragrance that added an extra layer of flavor. It was a comforting bowl with a nice balance of textures and aromas—perfect for a warm breakfast.

Lontong

The Mee Siam was quite straightforward, with bee hoon soaking up the tangy and mildly spicy soup. It came with simple yet flavorful ingredients like Tau Pok and chives. For those who prefer a more tangy kick, a squeeze of the given lime does the trick, enhancing the sourness to your liking.

Mee Siam

Overall, it was a comforting meal that filled the stomach nicely. The familiar flavors and warm dishes made for a satisfying breakfast experience.
