We couldn't resist those adorable iced beverages, particularly when the coffee comes with a bear-shaped ice cube sitting at the top of the glass. As the bear slowly melts away, it adds a charming touch to the drink, gradually infusing the coffee with a bit of extra flavour as it sinks into the room-temperature beverage. It’s a delightful and playful way to enjoy a refreshing drink!

The Iced Milo Dinosaur certainly has its own charm, looking like it's enjoying a “mud bath” in the glass. The rich Milo powder on top gradually mixes into the drink, creating a fun and visually appealing experience. Sipping down the drink and watching the Milo powder blend into the glass jar adds a playful touch to the enjoyment, making each sip even more satisfying.

Even though I’m not a fan of sambal, I really enjoy petai, and it seems these two often come together. I find myself picking out the petai over the prawns. The unique flavor of the petai, despite its occasional pairing with sambal, is a highlight that makes the dish enjoyable for me.

The Fried Rice Goreng Berempah is a standout dish featuring fragrant fried rice topped with fish roe. The highlight of the plate is the berempah chicken, which is deeply fried to achieve a perfect balance of spice and aroma. This chicken retains its juiciness while delivering a rich, flavorful experience with every bite. The combination of the savory fried rice and the aromatic, crispy chicken makes for a delicious and satisfying meal.

The Beef Hor Fun with Creamy Egg Sauce is a delicious new addition to Nanyang Dao’s menu. The portion is generous, with ample Hor fun noodles and tender beef slices. The star of the dish is the creamy egg sauce, which is sweet, rich, and utterly addictive. Its smooth texture coats the noodles perfectly, creating a comforting and flavorful dish that's sure to be a hit with diners looking for a satisfying meal.

Grabbing a box of their hometown pineapple tarts is a great choice! The box contains 20 pieces (10 packets), with each packet sealed for convenient consumption.

8 Degree (Jln Besar)

Revisiting 8 Degree for Taiwanese cuisine was a delightful experience, reminding me why it’s a favorite spot. The authentic flavors and creative dishes make it stand out. From my all-time favorite Oyster Mee Sua with its perfect blend of sourness and briny oysters to the surprisingly satisfying Scallion Oil Chicken Rice, each dish exceeded expectations. The latest addition, the Bubble Tea Ramen, offered a bold, unconventional twist, while the Pork Belly Udon delivered hearty comfort.

8 Degree @ Foch Road (Jln Besar)

The menu cover page prominently features their latest addition: the bubble tea ramen. This unique and eye-catching dish combines the chewy texture of ramen noodles with the sweet creaminess of milk tea, offering a fusion that piques curiosity. The playful combination highlights the restaurant's creativity, making it a standout item and inviting customers to try something adventurous and different.

Menu

Pairing the mains with these refreshing bubble tea drinks enhances the dining experience. The Wintermelon Lemon offers a sweet yet tangy flavour, providing a light, refreshing contrast to richer dishes. The Jasmine Green Tea with Pearl brings a subtle floral aroma and the chewy texture of pearls, making it a great companion to savoury items. For a classic option, the Milk Tea with Pearl offers a creamy, slightly sweet taste, which pairs well with a variety of mains, especially those with bold, hearty flavours. Each drink adds its own unique twist to the meal, making the combinations exciting and satisfying.

The Scallion Oil Chicken Rice exceeded my expectations, and I actually found their version to be superior compared to other eateries offering Taiwanese cuisine. The chicken was tender and flavorful, perfectly complemented by the aromatic scallion oil that infused the dish with a rich, savoury taste. The simplicity of the ingredients allowed the natural flavours to stand out, and the rice soaked up the delicious oil, making each bite satisfying. It was a delightful surprise and a standout dish among other Taiwanese offerings.

The bubble tea ramen was certainly a revolutionary taste experience, though, to this day, I still can't quite get used to the combination of noodles soaked in milk tea. The fusion of flavours was unusual, and while it felt odd, the overall experience wasn't entirely off-putting. The dish came with a well-fried, golden-brown chicken cutlet, which added a hearty, satisfying element that balanced the oddity of the noodles in tea. The crispy chicken ensured the dish wasn’t too plain despite the strange pairing.

The pork belly udon had a simple yet appealing presentation. A generous scoop of richly braised pork belly sat atop a bundle of thick, chewy udon noodles, adding a touch of indulgence to the dish. To complete it, the dish was garnished with some shredded cucumber, providing a refreshing contrast to the hearty pork belly. The simplicity of the ingredients allowed the flavours of the tender pork and the savoury broth to shine, making it a satisfying and well-balanced meal.

Oyster mee sua is my all-time favorite order for Taiwanese cuisine, and the symphony of flavours always meets my expectations. The dish has a delightful sour kick from the vinegar, perfectly balanced with the natural briny saltiness of the fresh oysters. The silky, thin noodles are immersed in a savoury broth, enhancing the rich taste of the oysters. Every spoonful delivers a satisfying blend of tangy and salty flavours, making it a comforting and flavorful dish I can never resist.

To wrap up the meal on a sweet note, the Lemon Aiyu with Passion Fruit is the perfect dessert. The zesty lemon adds a refreshing tang, while the passion fruit brings a tropical sweetness that complements the delicate, jelly-like texture of the aiyu.

This light and fruity combination provides a satisfying, palate-cleansing finish, balancing the flavours of the preceding dishes and leaving a bright, invigorating aftertaste.

Tan Xiang Yuan

Singaporeans are not strangers to celebrity restaurants, let alone this conservation building occupied by Tan Xiang Yuan. It is a Cantonese concept restaurant owned by celebrity owners, Ben Yeo and Chef Cao Yong.

Tang Xiang Yuan

In the evening

Located in a two-storey conservation building, the restaurant can accommodate approximately 70 people with both indoor and outdoor seating options. For the al fresco area, the place is equipped with many portable fans and a sheltered area.

We raised our cups of fragrant Chinese tea in a toast to happiness and health, savoring the warm, comforting aroma as we clinked glasses. This ritual set a celebratory tone, marking the beginning of our meal and heightening our appreciation for the forthcoming feast.

Toasting

The Peking duck was presented before us with a remarkable allure. Its skin, a flawless golden brown, was crisp and glistening, inviting admiration and anticipation. The texture of the skin was incredibly delicate, promising a satisfying crunch with each bite.

As the waitress skillfully removed the glistening skin, piece by piece, the crackling sound heightened our anticipation. Each crackle seemed to amplify our eagerness, awakening our senses and building the excitement for the indulgence that awaited us. The meticulous process only deepened our appreciation for the dish, making the imminent enjoyment of the Peking duck even more tantalizing.

Processing the Peking Duck in Progress

Each slice of skin was a perfect golden-brown, with a glossy sheen that highlighted its crisp texture. The surface was subtly caramelised, creating a delicate crackle when touched.

The Duck Skin

A Peking duck wrap with a twist. The combination creates a delightful contrast of textures and flavors: the richness of the duck, the crispiness from both the skin and the toasted beancurd, and the refreshing bite of the vegetables, all wrapped up in a delicate pancake. It's a deliciously unique take on the classic Peking duck wrap.

There are a few variations of cooking style for the leftover duck meat at an additional of $10. We can choose, Scallion Ginger, Salt & Pepper or Cereal Coat. We had the Salt & Pepper and although the seasonings were flavourful, the non-meaty pieces of duck were the shortcomings of the dish.

Salt Pepper 椒盐

The seafood hot pot came brimming with a rich and flavorful seafood broth. It featured an array of premium ingredients: plump tiger prawns, delicate fish maw, tender Lala clams, succulent abalone, tender fish slices, seaweeds, Tofu, hearty taro cubes, and expertly crafted house-made shrimp and pork balls.

Each component contributed to the broth's depth of flavour, resulting in a delectable and satisfying dish. The freshness of the ingredients infused the broth with an irresistible taste.

Our Own Servings

The freshness of the ingredients spoke for itself, each bite and sip revealing their superior quality.

Dipping Sauce

The vibrant flavours and tender textures of the tiger prawns, fish maw, Lala, and other components highlighted the exceptional freshness, making the broth exceptionally flavorful and satisfying.

Freshness of Ingredients

Enjoying the simplicity of vegetable dishes like this, we delighted in the stir-fried Green Dragon vegetables with beansprouts. The dish showcased a harmonious blend of crisp, fresh vegetables, with the Green Dragon vegetables adding a subtle, earthy flavour and the beansprouts providing a satisfying crunch. The stir-frying process enhanced their natural flavours while maintaining their vibrant colour and texture, making it a refreshing and satisfying complement to our meal.

While the kid usually prefers their usual snacks over our dishes, we were pleasantly surprised to find that TXY offers cheese sticks. These cheesy treats turned out to be a hit, keeping the kid entertained with the fun of pulling apart the gooey, stretchy cheese. The unexpected addition of cheese sticks to the menu was a welcome surprise that kept the little one happily occupied.

Claypot Jumbo Lala

Here's another stall that recently opened. It joins the trend of claypot Lala dishes. However, it stands out by being the first to offer a halal version.

Claypot Jumbo Lala

They have a free flow of sauces to make your meal more interesting. There are China Chalok Chilli Sauce, Lemon Chilli Sauce, Salted Egg Yolk Sauce, Sweet Curry Dipping Sauce etc.

Free Flow of Sauces

Living up to their "Jumbo Lala" name, they only offer bigger Lala. These Lala are large and live.

The bowl of Speciality Lala Bee Hoon was scrumptious. The broth was sweet and packed with the generous servings of eggs.

Speciality Lala Beehoon - $5

We were served with thick Bee Hoon in a flavourful broth made from their stock, seasoned with some Chinese cooking wine, and evaporated milk, adding depth. Ingredients like vegetables, chilli and their popular Jumbo Lala.

We took out the generous servings of Jumbo Lala from the claypot to prevent it from cooking further.

The meat was fresh and plump. Really Addictive for Lala Lovers.

WE also ordered some Sea Urchin Ball ($9.90) and Salmon Ball and Cheese ($5.90). I quite like their Marinated Chicken meat too.

Our Claypot

After visiting numerous claypot places, I found that Claypot Jumbo Lala offers a few different ingredients as compared to others. One of the special items to note is their Fish Noodle with Squid Ink.

Take a look at the size of their Lala in comparison to my spoon.

Aside from the various types of seafood balls, thinly sliced meat is an essential part of my claypot meal.

Ang Mo Liang Teh

The shop name relates closely to our hearts as this usual description in Dialect usually describes Beer as “Ang Mo Liang Teh”. It is strategically located in CBD. Just imagine that your drinking hole is just around the corner of Eon Shenton. Be it from the taps, bottles of cans, do take a trip down and check it out.

Ang Mo Liang Teh

Here you won’t get to find any carpeted floor or dim lighting. Instead, it was simply furnished with comforting white walls adorned with some dragon murals by local illustrator Tobyato, paying homage to both the beer and the founder, Jerry Yang’s birth year ~ Chinese Year of the Dragon.

Simple Interior

Let’s get transported by the warm, neighbourhood nostalgia that defines AMLT here.

Beer

AMLT is a good place to chill and unwind after a hard day’s of work for both local and imported craft beers at very affordable prices.

Ang Mo Liang Teh in Chinese Characters

Once you step into AMLT, you won’t miss this eye-catching mural on the wall.

When there is beer, we can not less out pairing these drinks with some finger food. We indulged ourselves in their wings and some unctuous Chinese Style BBQ Pork on the Pizza.

Our Beer and Meal

The fusion of our Chinese BBQ Pork, aka Char Siew, on the smoky thin-crust pizza was heavenly. We added some paprika to give our palettes a spicy kick.

With its location, who works around the area is very convenient. Even my friend who works around that area agree that she will be visiting again too.
