Burp Kitchen & Bar (Bedok Reservoir)

Burp Kitchen & Bar is nestled in the heartlands and overlooking Bedok Reservoir.

Burp Kitchen & Bar

Stopping over here for a meal as well as some refreshing draught beers to beat the heat. We had the Sapporo Premium Japan lager.

Sapporo Premium - $12 / pint

In fact, we returned for this. These mushroom poppers were good to pair with the alcohol we had. These white button mushrooms were battered and perfectly done and served with lime mayonnaise.

Mushroom Poppers - $10

Enjoy another bar grub like the Grilled Unagi Cups. Using the crispy Kueh Pie Tee Shells, served with lettuce, grilled unagi and showered with bonito flakes. Yums!

Grilled Unagi Cups - $12

It's just too boring to order only sides thus we had something filling, the Burp's Burger. Every burger meal comes with potato chips. Love the Brioche bun, beef patty, cheese, caramelized onions, arugula and spicy mayo.

Burp's Beef - $16

The minced patty was juicy and definitely went well in the melting cheese as well as arugula and the spicy mayo sauce.

Cross Section of the Burger

Given its location and the environment, I do not mind visiting again for a chill-out.

Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang

With the newly renovated coffee shop and the article on social media, we visited this place. Noticing that Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang is recommended by the Michelin Guide 2021, 2022 and 2023, we decided to give it a try

Stall of Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang

Enjoy the meal with the famous Taliwang Sauce from Lombok Indonesia, also the special infused coconut rice with ingredients like fried peanuts, fried dried anchovies, cucumber and freshly cooked egg. The presentation was also elevated by the use of banana leaf that lifted up the colors on the plate. The chicken was very well flavoured, packed of smokiness and marination, not forgetting that fiery kick of the sauce. Simply S-H-I-O-K!

Spicy Level: 🌶🌶

Ayam Taliwang - $7.50

The presentation of Nasi Lemak Ayam Cabe Ijo has of similar ingredients just that the delicious piece of chicken was served with green chilli.

Ubi Claypot Lala

Yet another Claypot delicacy over the traditional charcoal fire hidden in the industrial area! If you have seen recent videos online about delicious Claypot Lala, it should be none other than this Ubi Claypot Lala. For all you know, they are located just a stone's throw away from the Comfort Delgro Driving Center. This also means that parking spaces are rather limited there despite being in an Industrial Estate.

Claypot Lala

Feel spoilt by their varieties, offering patrons with over 40 hotpot toppings to go with the Lala. The classic ingredients were all available in the fridge including Luncheon Meat, Sausage, Hokkaido Scallops. fish slices etc

Ingredients for our Lala Hotpot

Ingredient

Now there's no need to go JB when you can come to Ubi to enjoy Singapore's First Charcoal Claypot Lala. Their homemade chilli sauce was "powerful" and good for dipping the ingredients.

What we had

They provide a free flow of fried garlic which allows us to scatter all over the soup. Not only that they provide unlimited Shao Xing Wine as well!

Prawns

How can we miss out on the classic? Enjoying this thinly sliced shabu shabu in the hotpot?

Shabu

The Signature Broth was definitely the crowd's favourite.

Our Meal

There is no need to worry about staff not promptly refilling the Lala soup base. We can do it ourselves by adding soup at the designated corner with the flask provided.

Refilling our soup bases

Sinking our stainless steel ladles into the default broth makes us happier with these big & plump Lala within, giving the base a natural seafood sweet taste.

Plump & Juicy Lala

It's a good place to enjoy Lala over the charcoal fire. Since it's located in Ubi Industrial, it may take a little planning to get there. With its limited parking spaces, we parked at the opposite industrial car park and walked over.

Claypot

Thank you Ubi Claypot Lala for inviting us.

Hao Xiang Seafood White Bee Hoon

The chained restaurants with White Bee Hoon as the staple dish have been losing their charm and quality, I'm always glad that I have another option in Bukit Batok, also a cheaper version. At least, their standard and quality maintain throughout all these years. No doubt this is a Cze Char Stall, my order with Hao Xiang Seafood remains the same every time. their White Bee Hoon.

The broth of the white bee hoon has an umami burst of flavours from the seafood, Lala and prawns. Besides the sweet natural flavours from the seafood, I love the egg fragrance that made up part of the broth too. The prawns are plump and succulent. If you are a Lala lover, you might want to choose this option instead.

Lala Prawns White Bee Hoon - $6.50 (Small)

Squeezing the lime juice into the plates of Bee Hoon definitely elevates the taste. We had also ordered a plate of Crayfish Lala White Bee Hoon. Don't forget to add their specialty chilli to the Bee Hoon too as it gives a good fiery kick.

Lala Crayfish White Bee Hoon - $12.50 (Small)

Over the years, I have been patronising Hao Xiang Seafood and today still satisfy my cravings for White Bee Hoon.

Rendezvous Restaurant Hock Lee Kee

Every time we passed by Rendezvous Restaurant in The Central, the overwhelming crowd of people enjoying their spread of food had never failed to attract my attention. Located at the 2nd level corner of The Central, they offer Singapore's Famous Authentic Nasi Padang since the 50s.

Rendezvous Restaurant Hock Lee Kee

For so many years it had been on my "To Eat List", now it's time to experience myself and get a taste of the gastronomic array of Western Sumatran cuisine which was brought into Singapore in the 1950s.

Looking through the glass shelves, Rendezvous Restaurant Hock Lee Kee offers a wide spread of specialities of Rendevous in the 50s & 60s, such as sambal prawns, sotong, brinjal, beef rendang, chicken rendang, korma chicken etc. These dishes are still popular among the young and old today.

Delicious Food Spread

While at this corner, the gravy was drenched onto the respective dishes after we took our order. Isn't the meal tempting?

Gravy

It will be then placed into a big tray and served to the customers.

Preparation Counter

Even the interior needs no additional lavish decorations. Its simplicity, neat and clean environment provided a comfortable place to dine in.

Dining Area

We get to see a clear day view of the Singapore River as we dine.

A look Out of the Dining Window

Fiery and kicking great dish that best go with our plates of white rice. We even ordered 2 portions for this.

Sambal Tempeh

The beef rendang was cooked to a perfect texture. Soft and tastily covered with the sauce. However, we felt that its on the saltier side but if you were to pair them with the rice. they tasted alright.

Beef Rendang

The Chicken Rendang was great too.

Chicken Rendang

The tender and chewy fresh texture of sotong with Sambal chilli was addictive.

Sambal Sotong

Curry Fish on the other hand was popular among us too. The Curry fish was fresh and spices of curry was rather prominent.

Curry Fish

While for the non-spicy dishes, we order Sayur Lodeh. The gravy was good and not too "gelat" or overcloying with coconut. Vegetables include carrots, cabbages, lady fingers etc.

Sayur Lodeh

The Bagedils were big in size and definitely looked appetizing that we ordered 3 potatoes, with each enjoying one portion despite the dishes we ordered.

Bagedil - $2.90

As many commented, food was served warm and it will be good to have it served pipping hot.

Our Spread

Rendezvous Restaurant Hock Lock Kee's history began more than 7 decades ago when it started as a coffee shop in Bras Basah Road. It was then a very popular meeting place for the thousands of British troops stationed in Singapore.

Take a trip down memory lane with them and savour the scrumptious aromatic spread of Nasi Padang!

Viet Corner

Viet Corner has been around for some time in Bukit Batok and for those who enjoy simple Viet Cuisine Pho, Banh Mi, Vietnamese Spring Rolls etc at pocket-friendly pricing, this is the place to go.

Viet Corner

Here's my staple order from the Viet Corner, a bowl of beef pho. I had the Special Beef Pho which includes beef brisket, beef balls, herbs, yellow onions and bean sprouts. Their Signature Broth is light yet at the same time full of flavour, infused with spices.

Special Beef Pho - $6.50

The thin noodles were similar to our Chinese Kway Teow Kia but of a different texture.

Pho

Elevate the dish with the given hoisin and chilli sauce by dabbing the beef brisket slices in it.

Brisket

Beef

Other than Beef Pho, one can order the Sliced Chicken Pho too. The broth was tasty too with yellow onions, beansprouts and herbs.

Sliced Chicken Pho - $4

For those who enjoy their spring rolls, they are only selling it at a certain timing. For Viet Cuisine lovers, do give this a try!

Jiak Mee

While browsing through the social media recently, it came to our knowledge that there is a popular Handmade Noodle stall, Jiak Mee, located above Bishan Bus Interchange.

Jiak Mee

We ordered You Mee in the dried version. The Noodles were tossed in a sweet dark sauce with vegetables, anchovies and minced meat as ingredients. The bowl of soup was tasty with familiar instant noodle MSG and with egg added.

You Mee (Dry) - $5.30

The bowl of Mee Hoon Kueh was topped with fragrant fried shallot as well as fried anchovies.

Traditional Mee Hoon Kueh (Soup) - $4.80

The texture of Mee Hoon Kueh (MHK) was chewy and gave me a different perspective of the usual texture of MHK.

Chewy

The broth was different and tasted more of the bland side if compared to the soup given to the Dry Version. Eggs, vegetables and minced meat were also part of the Hand Made Noodle.

Ingredients

We did not order other finger food as our purpose is to try out their handmade noodle. The stall helpers were friendly.

Overall, though I find that Jiak Mee standard of Home Made Noodle may be better than the usual stall. I find that its pretty ordinary for me and luckily there is no long queue during my order. In short, there are better Mee Hoon Kueh out there.
