The Crispy Pork Belly was served in a style such that we might mistake it as fish skin. Nonetheless, each piece of Pork Belly is indeed crispy and never fail to let out crackling noises if we bite on it. Dip them into the chilli for additional flavours.

The Original Katong Laksa

You would have probably been attracted by this strong aroma of The Original Katong Laksa if you were in Queensway Shopping Center.

Stall of The Original Katong Laksa

We visited this popular The Original Katong Laksa in Roxy Square and this is one of their stores located in Queensway Shopping Center, right in the middle of 1st Floor. If you look down from the upper storey, you will get to see the staff preparing the food.

Open Kitchen

They have been around over the years and besides serving laksa, you can enjoy Curry Chicken as well as their Chicken Cutlet Rice.

Other Food

We ordered the big bowls of Laksa together with drinks and Otah to fix our craving. The bowl of laksa was filled with eggs, fish cakes, beansprouts, blood cockles and de-veined prawns were cut into halves. The bowl of Laksa was topped with the fragrant Laksa leaves.

Laksa - $7.50 (large)

Noodles were cut and we definitely enjoyed every spoonful of it. The gravy was not too thick or creamy, just of the right proportion.

Laksa

The blood cockles were big and plump.

Cockles

Otah and Laksa come in a package! We cannot leave this out!

Otah

I will like to try out their Chicken Cutlet Rice if I ever go there again!

Anchor Cafe & Roastery

A friend of mine introduced one of her favourite cafes in Batam as a local and without much hesitation,  we had Anchor Cafe & Roastery listed in our Cafe to Visit while in Batam.

Anchor Cafe & Roastery

If you love outdoor dining, they do have some tables outside the premises too.

Outdoor Area

It is a huge cafe that takes up to 4 shop units at the corner of the shop house opposite a nursery.

Photo Corner

The atmosphere was good, and so was the hospitality from the staff.  Since Anchor Cafe is made up of Roastery too, do give their coffee a try!

Preparing Coffee

Considering weekday lunchtime, the place was bustling with people, locals and foreigners like us.

Dining Area

Environment

We started off with sharing plate. These Fried Chicken tenders were yummy and served with their house honey-chipotle sauce and a side of ranch. Portion was big for 2 pax.

Chipotle Chicken Tenders - 95k

Simply Delicious!

Here's one of the recommended burgers on the menu. It has a Premium all beef patty on its homemade bun, piled high with lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, mayo, mustard, ketchup and pickles. It was served with skillet potatoes & coleslaw.

Big Boss Burger - 135k

We enjoyed the burger with the soft sesame burger buns. The beef patty was moist and savoury in its sauces as well as ingredients.

Cross Section of Burger

On a side note, the server shared that their candles were handmade.

Here's our glass of cooler with Strawberry Lemonade & a cup of cappuccino to wash down the food.

Strawberry Lemonade - 48k

Cappuccino - 42k

Service is friendly and the portion is big even for 2 pax sharing. The price paid is justifiable for the quality. I am okay with returning back for some other food on the menu. Hoping to have the chance again.

Peach Garden [Media Invite]

If you ask me about the long-standing restaurant chains serving Authentic Chinese Cuisine in Singapore, one of them will be Peach Garden. In today context, Peach Garden Group comprise of 1 fine dining Restaurant, 2 Chinese Restaurants, 2 Chinese Casual Dining Concepts and an outdoor catering arm which caters for weddings as well as events.

They are reputable and popular among Singaporeans. Besides serving delectable dim sum, Peach Garden's Signature Dishes include Wasabi Prawns, Crispy Peking Duck etc. Dishes are plated with fresh ingredients too.

Our Chinese Dining kick starts with their Deep Fried Pumpkin with Salted Egg Yolk. Each pumpkin has a thin crisp layer of Salted Egg Crust Coating that gives a soft and crispy bite. The combination of savoury Salted Egg Yolk and sweet nature pumpkin was superb.

We had their Fried Carrot Cake with XO Chilli Sauce. The dish was tasty with generous use of eggs & dried shrimp that enhanced the taste of the plain carrot cake. It was also fried with bean sprouts and topped with spring onions.

Before the Chef demonstrated his professional culinary skills to us, we managed to get a pose of him with the Roasted Peking Duck.

The Chef

Peking Duck is one of their Signature Dishes, look at the glistening skin that comes with a delightful crunch as the chef skillfully landed his shiny chopper to cut out these cracking pieces and served them to us in wrapped up in their handmade egg wrap.

Chef’s Work in Progress

The dish is not only savoury and affordable. It is worth every dollar paid especially with their current promotion. This Chinese Dish was adorned with our National Flower.

Roasted Crispy Peking Duck 北京烤鸭

I could not resist grabbing these wraps and topping it up with my favourite condiments like spring onion. Besides the cracking crunch from the Peking Duck Skin, the cuts of Rock Melon and Cucumbers also give additional crunch to this delicacy. I spread the sweet savoury sauce on it and sum it up with a crunch in my mouth.

Peking Duck with Handmade Egg Wrap

We were “wow” by the aesthetic presentation of this dish. It was served with the effect of smokiness from the dry ice with some water sound in the background, featuring some zen atmosphere. What a good effect!

Roasted Crispy Pork with Black Truffle 椒盐软壳蟹拼黑松露烧肉

The Deep-Fried Soft soft-shell crab with Salt & Pepper was not greasy and palatable while Roasted Crispy Pork lands a good crackling skin texture with a boost in aroma by the Black Truffle Sauce used.

Soft Shell Crab

The Double- Boiled Collagen Chicken Soup with Abalone in Young Coconut was rich and tasty. The presentation scored too. They even make use of the burning fire to heat up the soup and also added some coconut aroma to the dish at that instant.

Enjoy the nourishing and comforting serving of Collagen Chicken Soup which has potential health benefits - aids in improving the skin’s elasticity.

Abalone in Soup

Their dishes were appealing. The Wasabi Salad Cream as well as the Salted Egg Prawn was decked up by fruits (dragron fruit & watermelon).

Prawn in Two Styles (Wasabi Salad Cream & Salted Egg Yolk)
双味虾球(芥末酱和咸蛋黄)

While the skin of the Peking Duck was used for the wraps, the left over meat was soaked up in batter and deep fried. It would be better if the sizes can be smaller, closer to bite-size. Otherwise, the texture and flavour is good.

Deep Fried Duck Meat

Duck Meat was also used as ingredients for this yummy serving of Ee Fu noodle. This dish looks simple but was flavourful and texture of noodles was perfect.

Well-braised broccoli with fresh crab meat and gluten puff was tantalising. Its sweet flavours from the crab meat had elevated the taste for the entire dish.

The sweet & sour pork with lychee was savoury and every ball of pork was coated evenly in its sweetness.

Their Signature Claypot Rice was aromatic with the plum vegetables as well as the shredded duck meat. The striking green coriander leaves enhanced its colour presentation.

The taste got saltier as we ate. No doubt that this dish is savoury and fragrant, it will be better if the salty level can be reduced.

Yummy Rice

Our stomachs were too bloated and yes finally, we saw our last dish from the menu - The Chilled Jelly Royale in Young Coconut. While it’s the last on menu, this dish never fail to impress in its presentation. The dry ice effect was beautiful and with the colourful "tadpoles" swimming in the "pond".

Love the popping effect from the "tadpoles" & chilling cool jelly with coconut drink, not forgetting the soft tender coconut flesh.

Hom Tang Thai Kitchen

After skipping Thai Cuisine for months, I’m finally back at Hom Tang Thai Kitchen. It has always been my plan to visit Hom Tang ever since I first passed by the place.

Hom Tang Thai Kitchen

Let’s go through the pages of their menu and order!

Menu to Thai Cuisine

Here we are, cooling ourselves down with these Thai drinks to beat the heat.

Thai Ice Lemon Tea & Thai Lemongrass - $3 / glass

No qualms about their dishes’ standard. Their Stir Fried Hor Fun is confirmed up to the mark with “Wok Hei” flavours, sweet and savoury coats on the broad Kway Teow with ingredients like vegetables and carrots.

Stir Fried Hor Fan (Chicken) - $8

I’m missing Boat Noodles every now and then, Hom Tang Thai Kitchen’s bowl of Thai Boat Noodle can satisfy my fix with its thick broth. Liver, meat ball, Kang Kong and bean sprouts were part of the ingredients. It’s taste was pretty decent.

Thai Boat Noodle - $8

Last but not least, we had their Seafood Tom Yum Clear Soup for sharing, Do not judge that soup by its clear appearance, it’s spicy and also very appetising. There are prawns, fish and mushrooms in the soup. Perhaps if I ever order the same thing again, I will ask for less spicy option.

Tomyum Clear Soup - $8

Overall, I find that the dishes we ordered were pretty decent and nothing out of the ordinary. However, the portion of food that we are paying is worth the money if you are looking for some decent Thai Fare.
