8 Toasts

Passing this place a number of times and with the "Nanyang Kopitiam" wording keep resounding in my mind, I was determined to visit Eight Toast for our breakfast if we ever make a trip down to Taman Perling again.

The Interior of 8 Toasts were modernly furnished and Menu is quite extensive with lots of selections.

Simply got attracted by the Ice Bath Beverages and we straight away ordered it.  You can opt for Ice Teh, Coffee or even Chocolate. What's your choice?

The presentation of their Egg Mee Rebus scored but the taste of the Mee Rebus gravy was lacking the peanut fragrance and punch that we had back in Singapore. No doubt the ingredients were aplenty, the taste just could not do justice to the Mee Rebus we expected.

Chocolate Banana French Toast 巧克力香蕉法式吐司 - RM 6.90

Another toast that we thought was unique. The mushrooms were fragrant and surrounded the egg on the toast.

The serving portion gave us a shock but then the presentation of the Peanut Butter Toast had striked a balance in the overall score. We were a fan of the crispy toast and the creamy buttery peanut that was sandwiched by the crispy layers.

What's the typical Singapore & Malaysian breakfast with toast but without Half Boiled Eggs?  It would not be completed without having them altogether. The eggs were perfectly done with the right doneness.

Here's our orders at 8 Toasts for the morning. Looking at the cozy and friendly environment, I do not see any reason not to be back here any sooner.

LAHAHA Mala Hotpot

 Lahaha Mala Hotpot Stall is located at a weird location inside the coffeeshop serving Chinese dishes like grilled fishes and Mala Hotpot.

Beside this one page view all menus. I'm surprised to see a thick booklet of the menu provided by this coffeeshop stall. Impressive!

While many of us go for the spicy and hot version of grilled fish, I preferred the non spicy type. I was bought over by this Grilled Fish with Tomatoes. The sweet and tangy broth was delicious, giving me a different view of grilled fishes as I thought grilled fishes goes well in Mala.

Another common dish that we will usually place on our dining table is none other than Shredded Peking Cabbage. The basic condiments used in the dish made this vegetable taste yummy.

Although this shredded Potato dish is common everywhere, not every place can cook the dish to the acquired taste. The taste was not too spicy and the level of sourness was to my liking.  The succulence of the bite was in my flavour too.

To my surprise, this non-spicy version of Grilled Fish with sauce was delicious too. I'm so glad that we had finally found a place for grilled fish that has decent taste other than having that dipped into hot and spicy broth.

The fried french beans were not too bad and stir-fried with dried chilli.

The sweet-tasting shredded pork was excellent and absolutely a go with our plates of white fragrant rice.

With the quality and standard of food, we will be back for other dishes on their menu.

Long Beach @ Dempsey

We visited Demsey Long Beach to celebrate the big day for one of our pals. Having decided on the Air Flown Live Geoduck Set Menu (House Specialty Live Prawn 盖世霸王活虾) which is suitable for 3-4 pax, cost $348++, we also topped up the order with additional dishes.

The House Specialty Live Prawn was delicious! The dish was served in a plate of 8. The shell of the prawns was hard but the flesh was succulent. The use of fried garlic lifted the dish with a good fragrance.  The presentation of the dish scored some marks here too.

Instead of the Black Pepper flavour for this Air Flown Live Dungeness Crab, we had it exchanged for chilli flavour. Well, how can a visit to the long beach be completed without a crab on our table? The gravy was sweet and addictive, thus we ordered some mini fried buns to savour them.

The Geoduck with Vermicelli & Minced Garlic was addictive in its freshness together with the condiments and soy sauce.

The crispy golden brown roasted chicken was appetizing. It was not too oily.

Another palatable dish from the set meal will be their Claypot Seafood Delicacious which includes, prawns, abalone, fish maw etc in its awesome braised sauce.

The soft and slippery texture of the Braised Ee Fu Noodle impressed me. Together with the Shimeji Mushroom, they tasted good. No doubt there were not many ingredients, but I enjoyed such a simple dish.

Ending the set meal on good notes, we savoured down some traditional black glutinous rice dessert sweetened by vanilla ice cream. Wee! I enjoyed every spoonful of it.

With the quality and level of service, Long Beach at Dempsey was seen as popular not only among foreigners but also the locals. It was also one of the places to bring your guests to enjoy the local seafood.

B.B.Q. Seafood

The BBQ Seafood is one of the popular stalls among the rest at level 3 Taman Jurong Food Center and during dinner times, we often see a long snaky queue line up there. No doubt that the variety available from the BBQ stall is rather limited, this won't deter their fans from patronizing them.

I'm so glad that I can have the whole plate of Petai to myself for the last round it was sold out. The portion of the Petai was not the full packet of what we had got from the supermarket. Nonetheless, the Petai was generously loaded with Sambal Chilli and this style totally floats my boat.

The sizzling BBQ Sotong served on the hot plate with onions and addictive chilli was simply too good to pair with our bowls of white rain.

We ordered prawns and it comes in a serving of 6. These big prawns were succulent and definitely goes well with the sambal chilli too. Order this dish if you dont mind to deshell these prawns.

The dish that I will not skip for every BBQ Seafood Meal. There are two prices / sizes to be choosen. Stingray was tender and smeared with a handsome amount of belachan and cut onions.

Not sure about the hype over here but there are also nicer BBQ Seafood out there in the West. If you said they are one of its kind among the stalls in the hawker, well... its not. It's time to explore other stalls in Taman Jurong Food Centre too.

TeoChew Braised Duck Rice. Kway Chap

Driving right into the industrial area, I recalled the Hawker Center where many food stalls can be found along Quality Road. Without much consideration, I joined the Teochew Braised Duck Stall as we had the mood for Kway Chap.

I joined the queue and my order was done swiftly with little communication.

My Meal

Topping up the set of 2 with braised duck and they placed in the drumstick. The Teochew Braised Duck and items on the plate were decently braised but if you are looking for herbal taste from the dish, you may be disappointed by this. 

The Ingredients

The bowl of Kway was big and smooth. The soup was not too salty but decent enough with my favourite Chinese parsley.

Considering the price paid for Braised items meal, I do not mind returning back again if there is chance.

SOD Cafe

 When we talked about Upper Thomson, what comes straight to my mind was the row of cafes and restaurants. With the recent development of Thomson MRT Line, the place was seen more bustling than before.

I could not take my eyes away from such beautiful drinks especially they have color gradients. 

Tan Milk Tea & Dirty Matcha Latte - $4.70 & $5.60

Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup was yummy. A good consistency of taste with cream and we could even taste the chunks of the mushroom. The garlic toast which was served together was fragrant too.

Lovers of eggs benedicts can have options like Waffle Benedict, Salmon Benedict with Buttered Buns $13.90 or simply the classic Eggs Benny on Buttered Buns. The pillowy soft thick buns was fragrant and good enough. The classic eggs benny with hollandaise sauce was savory, not to mentioned the crispy bacon. Yums!

Big Brekkie is the safest choice as we get to enjoy a variety of breakfast items on our plate, Bratwurst, brioche, bacon, fresh greens, ham, wedges and a choice of scrambled eggs/sunny side up. A good choice for a hearty breakfast.

Nurul Delight

I first know of  Nurul Delights Nasi Lemak when i friend introduce their stall at Blk 413 Bukit Batok. After knowing that they have opened up another stall at Blk 217 Bukit Batok, I was quite happy to grab my meal here as I prefer their friendliness rendered here.

The Nasi Lemak is one of the popular dishes that many of us in the queue would order. The standard plate comes with egg and fried chicken wings topped with a slice of a cucumber and some chilli with their fragrant white rice. To be honest, the chilli was addictive with its sweet spicy tasting and usually, we will order more items on our plate.

Before it gets sold out, I have to order their Fish Fillet, Bagedil and chicken wings, topping up my meal!

Items

Not the best in the Western Part of Singapore that I have eaten but it's considered decent. The chicken stock and shredded chicken were tasty with fried shallots lifting its taste.

Mee Soto - $3

Another standard item to order will be none other than the Mee Rebus dish. The taste was decent with simple ingredients like fried onions, cut Tau Pok and Beansprouts. We are not used to the use of raw beansprouts so will like to skip that if possible.

The staples of the neighbourhood Muslim Food Stall besides Mee Soto and Mee Rebus will be none other than their Lontong.

The Lontong was fragrant and the portion was generous.

The gravy was light but flavourful. Vegetables, Tau Gua and Rice Cake were part of the ingredients.

Although this stall was located at an obscure corner of the coffee shop, Nurl Delight does have its regular flow of customers. Do prepare to join the queue too.
