Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim

Back to the popular place for BCM in Bedok where we used to have frequently last time. The signage was seen to be brighter and since we were rather early, there was no queue at all.

Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim

Mee Pok with Chilli and Ketchup topped with a handful of ingredients like lean meat, minced meat, fishballs, fish cakes, beansprouts and prawns. The Noodles were springy and the fishballs were bouncy.

Mee Pok Dry - $7.50 (Big)

A $2 difference between the bigger and the smaller portion. Comparing the previous picture, there is a different amount of ingredients in the bowl and also an absence of prawns in the smaller bowl.

Mee Kia - $7.50 (Small)

The taste of the soup is still to my liking and likewise for the style of their noodles still fit me all these years.

One of the popular hot spots in Bedok area for its Mee Pok and Kway Teow Mee. Occupying 2 stall space of the coffeeshop and with one similar branch steps away, they are consider quite big.

Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim

Well known for its long waiting time, this is no deterrence to their faithful supporters and even so tables are usually filled up in the coffee shop over the weekends.

Waiting Queue

The bigger portion of Bak Chor Mee has more ingredients, such as additional fishballs and prawns.

Mee Kia (Big) - $6

Standards have a vast difference as compared to the very first time I visited them. The noodles are moist but the soup & food tasted bland this round. I can no longer reminisce about the old-school days time over a hot bowl of Bah Chor Mee.

Mee Pok (Medium) - $5

The portions and pricing are too pricy to determine such a bowl of Bah Chor Mee. Although Lau Lim has its own style in the bowl of bah chor mee, we can better portions and value worth the money else where.

Lickers

Since there is always room for dessert after a meal, we headed to this new Ice Cream shop in Bukit Batok for some indulgence.

Lickers

There is a good range of Ice Cream Flavours for customers to choose from.

Your Ice Cream Selection

The Ice Cream place seems kind of run down with minimal renovations after its takeover from the previous owner. The wall tiles were quite old school with many wall plugs left over.

Lick Me

Let's start our licking good times with the ice cream.

Licking Good Times

Oolong Lavendar & Roasted Pistachio on waffles. The 2 premium-flavoured ice creams stacked up on each other and decked by the freshly baked waffle showered with icing powder.

Premium Flavours on Waffle

Let's start our indulgence by pouring maple syrup over it. I love the fact that Ice Cream from Lickers is not cloying and having the waffle strikes a good balance to it.

Oolong Lavendar has a good fragrance of both Lavender as well as Oolong Tea with a moderate sweetness level. Whereas for Roasted Pistachio, I love the bits within the creamy texture of the Ice Cream and of course the aroma of the Pistachio nuts.

Showering Maple Syrup

We do not mind making a return trip for Ice Cream in Lickers.

Swee Kee Wanton Noodles

Swee Kee Wanton Noodles is one of the popular stalls in ABC Brickworks. Many years back while stalls have already priced their dishes at a minimum of $2.50, Swee Kee Wanton Noodles still stick to $2 per plate without shortchanging customers on the portion.

To date, their Wanton Noodle is still as good. Their noodles are springy, cooked to perfection and their quality is not of the usual that we often get from a typical Wanton Noodle Stall.

Seeing the attractive braised chicken leg on its menu, I could not help but add that to our plates of Wanton Mee.

Wanton Mee - $3

Braised Chicken Feet's flavours are noteworthy. It was tender and soft too.

Braised Chicken Feet - $0.80

The food served by Swee Kee Wanton Noodles were flavourful from the noodle to their soup.

Wanton Soup - $3

Bought a bowl of Wanton soup. The bowl is generously filled with yummy wanton and some vegetables with spring onions.

Wantons

I'm still missing this place once in a while for it has brought me memories of the past. No doubt that the taste might be simple and bare basic for others, I felt that I still prefer the such old-school taste from time to time.

Xiao Yao Ge 逍遥阁

The row of shophouses opposite the Chinese garden MRT is always seen bustling with people during the evening time. Xiao Yao Ge is known for serving Authentic Northern East Chinese Cuisine till late.

We were expecting another chit-chatting session with some Chinese beer and Chinese BBQ Skewers. These Chinese Beers brand are known for their light taste.

Beer 青岛啤酒 / 雪花啤酒

I have been searching for a good shredded potato side dish ever since my favourite shop in Chinatown closed its shutter. The Shredded Potato was addictive and fragrant with chilli oil and coriander but its still, not the best that I had eaten. While I'm expecting the dish to be warm, it was served at room temperature.

While this is one of the common dishes with a mixture of dried chilli, sesame seeds and chicken. However, I'm not very used as the plate comprised more bones than meat.

Skewers were served on a wooden board decked by grease paper. We were served the pork belly wrap with Enoki Mushrooms. With the generous amount of seasoning used, these skewers were very flavourful.

Using similar seasonings, the plain buns were flavourful and fragrant.

The Wings were well-marinated and definitely yummy. They have the typical Chinese spices omitted as these is Orlean Style Wings. The marinate is sweet and addictive.

The Mutton was tender and delicious. There was no gaminess in its taste.

Besides mutton, you can order Pork and Chicken Skewers too. They do taste as good.

Quite surprised to see BBQ You Mai Vegetables. Likewise,. the dish is loaded with a generous amount of seasonings.

The French beans were all so soaked up with the seasonings.

While the seasonings and fragrance on most skewers were similar, most of them tasted the same but each individual is different base on the texture of the food.

The mushroom looks a bit miserable here in its portion. Nonetheless, these skewers were tasty and juicy too.

Overall, skewers are reasonably priced. With the beer and skewers, I do not mind coming back again for other food on the menu as well as their BBQ Skewers.

Restoran Din Kee Beef Noodle

The foodie adventure starts with a friend's recommendation to Din Kee Beef Noodle. It totally made our day with a simple and scrumptious meal.

Filling up your stomach with a stomach-comforting bowl of beef noodles is a perfect way to start your trip to Johor Bahru.

While we were chit-chatting in front of the shop waiting to settle down with our "Barang Barang", the friendly auntie waited and ushered us into the restaurant with a smile. This welcoming warmth from the locals set a different level of culture when compared to what we have in Singapore.

While waiting for our food, we were served with these pre-prepared beverages from the refrigerator.

Lemongrass Lemon Tea, Black Soya, Longan Sea Coconut
Lemongrass Lemon Tea, Black Soya, Longan Sea Coconut - RM 4

I had the non-adventurous and most basic Braised Meet Beef Noodle from the Menu thinking that its the safest choice. There is only one size portion available on the menu and there are a few variations of beef noodles to choose from, Soup or dry, the type of noodles to choose from Kway Teow, Yellow Mee, Bee Hoon and Thick Bee Hoon.

Braised Meat 牛肉粉
Braised Meat 牛肉粉 - RM 9

Given one size portion available on the menu, the serving was considerably generous with a good handful of braised beef chunks topped the noodles and drenched with delicious and flavourful sauce. The fragrant and condiments used to enhance the taste were noteworthy.

The roasted peanuts gave additional crunch and pickled vegetables gave a slight sourish flavour to the noodles too. The beef was cooked to perfection, tender and moist.

Dipping the flavourful piece of meat into the given chilli was utterly divine.

Beef with Chilli

A little more adventurous into the meal with Beef Meat and Tripe. It was not a bad choice too as the meat and tripe were tender and well-handled without any gamey taste. The bowl soup that comes with the dry noodle was simply awesome with its herbal taste.

For those who want to skip the beef dishes, Din Kee do offer non-beef dishes like Fish Soup or even pork noodles.

Fish Soup with Rice

This is the best Beef Noodle I had in Johor Bahru thus far. Do note that the place might get crowded at its peak hours.

FlagWhite is an all-day pet-friendly cafe that offers coffee, brunch and dessert. Having passed by the cafe numerous times, I have finally left my footsteps there.

The unconventional way of how Espresso is served. The Espresso Tonic is a mixture of double shot Espresso and citrus tonic water. It is frizzy and refreshing.

Earl Grey Macchiato was great with a good generous layer of milk cream on top of the fragrant Earl Grey tea.

Their homemade sweet potato fries were lightly battered and fried to perfection with a crispy outer layer and a fluffy centre. Dipping in the given sauce makes the snack so yummy.
