Restoran Dong Fan 东方美食中心

There are a few stalls housed under Restoran Dong Fan and for breakfast selection, we had chosen Wan Tan Mee. The An Wan Wan Tan Mee is just located right at the shutters of the eating place and offers 4 types of noodles: Wan Tan Mee, Fried Basil and Pork, Yee Mee Soup and Kway Teow Soup.

Uncle was friendly and quickly prepare our food upon hearing our orders.

Preparing the Noodles

The portion was rather big despite ordering the smallest. We were served with noodles with Char Siew and a bowl of soup with 4 Wan Tan.

Wan Tan Mee - RM 7 (Small)

Even though we had asked for less chilli, we still felt that the noodle was rather spicy. The noodles were tossed in the typical Malaysian Style of Black Sauce with chilli with a few pieces of thick Char Siew meat as well as some greens. The taste was pretty decent.

Char Siew

The Wan Tan were smooth and silky. The taste of the soup was flavourful too.

Wan Tan in Soup

While we were finishing up our plates of Wan Tan Noodles, some friends who are regular of the place introduced the Kueh Teow Goreng to us.

Stall of Kueh Teow Goreng

The one behind the Wok is an elderly man and the "cling-clang" noise from the Wok and Frying Spatula could be heard from the distance no doubt that his stall is right in front eating place under the shelter.

Uncle in Action

With the stall being in the open, the frying aroma lingers around the area.

Can you Spot the Bear?

We shared the plate of Kueh Teow Goreng among ourselves. The plate of Kueh Teow Goreng was indeed tasty as they had mentioned. Ingredients like chives, beansprouts, eggs and Chinese sausage were the basic.

Kueh Teow Goreng - RM 7

Consistent taste and packed sweetness from the egg. The plate of Kueh Teow Goreng was not greasy and had good "Wok Hei" flavours, definitely worth some calories spent.

Yummy!

Ramen Taisho ラーメン大将

I have never walked to the side of the mall till I heard about Ramen Taisho . If you are visiting inside the mall, you will never get to see this Ramen place. Walk around the perimeter of Le Quest mall and you will get there.

Ramen Taisho's ramen is handcrafted using wheat flour imported from Japan for his noodles. and freshly made in small batches daily.

Ramen Taisho

Over at the condiments counter, we get to serve ourselves with pickled ginger, beansprouts, genmaicha, and plain water as well as a wet tissue.

Self Service Items

Plain Water

While we saw other diners having some cute size canned drinks, we went ordering some too.

Bincho Roasted Black Coffee, Sangaria Ramune, Mix Fruits Juice - $1.80 Each (190ml)

Going green with Goma. This Japanese Spinach was rolled up in a ball and soaked in a pool of Sesame Dressing with its seed too.

Spinach with Sesame Sauce - $4.80

If you are looking to order some sides, The Crab Cream Croquette is a must-try. The outer layer is thin, crunchy and crispy, cradling some milky cream that is packed with sweet corn fragrance.

Crab Cream Croquette - $4.80

The melt-in-the-mouth and soft savoury crab meat filling are irresistible.

Creamy Crab

If you already have the crab cream croquette, you will find that the potato croquette will be drier. Nonetheless, if you prefer something not creamy, this Potato Croquette is as good too.

Potato Croquette - $4.80

Similarly, crunchy and crispy exterior with mashed potato fillings.

Potato Fillings

Ramen Taisho offers 5 different kinds of Ramen either in Regular or the deluxe version.  The deluxe version comes with a piece of seaweed as well as a whole-flavoured lava egg.

The regular bowl of Shio (Salt) Ramen has a delightful broth, not salty and texture of the ramen was springy. There are two slices of Chashu, slightly charred and flavourful.

RG Shio Ramen - $10.80

The chewy texture of the black fungus and flavoured lava egg has given additional texture.

Lava Egg and Black Fungus

The Deluxe Black Garlic Ramen is stronger in broth flavour and comprises of 2 different types of meat with a large piece of seaweed, whole-flavoured lava egg and black fungus.

DX Black Garlic Ramen - $14.80

Aren't this eye pleasing?

Tender Meat

Gyokai Ramen has slight spiciness in it and the stock is more orangy in color. It may look a bit oily but for the fact, it is neither spicy nor greasy to me. While the broth is made up for seafood (e.g dried bonito), we get to taste some "sea" flavours apart from the usual pork bone broth.

Gyokai Ramen - $13.80

Comparing the standard of ramen, Ramen Taisho served quality and tasty Ramen in the heartlands. Pricing wise, it is also relatively reasonable for the standard that we are paying for.

Soi Thai Kitchen [Closed]

Clams were fresh and well cooked with their special Thai Chilli Sauce with spring onions. It goes well as a side dish with the mains.

Stir-Fried Clams with Thai Chilli Sauce 泰式辣味啦啦 - $13

Comparing the same dish we used to have years back, the presentation of Squid with Lime Sauce has significantly improved. The squid was beautifully cut and curled up while the zesty lime taste with a tad spicy kick made this dish the crowd's pleaser.

Squid with Lime Sauce 辣椒柠檬墨鱼- $13

Thai Vermicelli was stirred-fried with prawns, meat, carrot, chilli and beansprouts.

Thai Vermicelli - $7

The plate of Basil Rice with Egg can be served with Pork or Chicken. The basil scent was adequate and a portion of rice to meat was good.

Basil Rice with Egg (Pork) - $7

Wok fried taste and the alluring fragrance of the use of fried onions were addictive. Get some squeeze of Thai Lime onto this dish to enjoy the dish with elevated fruity citrus.

It has been a long time since my last visit and still, they are one of my best choices for Thai Food in the Western part of Singapore. With their $6 Set Lunch promotion Monday to Sunday, 11am to 5pm it makes it so affordable and tempting for me to come here frequently. Their lunch set menu is limited with one main dish listed on the menu with a choice of drinks at $6.

Well fried with strong Wok Hei, these Drunken Noodles are firey thus beware if you do not intend to take spicy dishes. Drunken noodles ingredients includes shredded squid and kiffir Lime Leaves elevating the taste.

Phad Thai is always on a sweeter side coupled with peanuts and chilli flakes by the side. The Phad Thai is deliciously coated in its tangy and sweet sauce with a generous amount of eggs. Other ingredients include prawns, chive and beansprouts.

These prawn cakes are ordered additionally on top of the lunch promotion set meals. The texture is similar to what we have from the fish cakes. These cakes were coated with crumbs and accompanied with Thai Sweet and Sour Chilli Sauce.

Prawn Cakes - $8

They were fried to golden perfection.

Beautifully Fried to Golden Brown

The texture was soft and springy with a sweet-tasting bite. Coupled with the sweet and sour chilli sauce and it makes this appetiser so welcoming for us.

Lately, Soi Thai has been my frequently visited eatery. Having visited Soi Thai Kitchen in Tampines & Soi Thai Kitchen in Jurong West quite some years back, I'm glad that they are spreading the wings further creating more outlets offering more wallet-friendly authentic Thai Cuisine.

This is our all-time favourite and with the request of less spiciness so that we won't be swallowing down the chilli seeds. We prefer the clear version and customers can have the choice of chicken Tom Yam or Seafood Tom Yam Soup.

Clear Tom Yam Soup 冬炎清汤
Clear Tom Yam Soup 冬炎清汤 - $7

Mango Salad is one of the recommendations on the menu. It's appetizing and too we requested for the less spicy version. Shredded mango is tossed with peanuts, fish sauce, coriander, carrot, onions and lime juice. It's quite addictive and makes a great side dish.

Mango Salad 芒果沙拉 - $6

Their fishcakes come in a plate of four and are recommended to order especially if you have kids. Its fried and crispy on the exterior, different from the ones that most Thai Restaurants would serve. Fishcake is springy and great to go with its sweet chilli sauce.

If you are looking to order greens from their menu, the Stir Fried Kai Lan is of excellent choice. It is fried together in minced garlic and oyster sauce with slices of carrot.

We simply love the Premium Fried Pork Cheek as its roasted to perfection, crispy outside with crunchy edges and was not too dry. Meat was chewy and best combination if you dip them into the given chilli sauce.

If you love the scent of basil, you may like to order this dish and pair along with rice. This is one of the popular ordered dishes among diners especially if you are dining in a group and sharing dishes.

Basil Pork 九层塔炒猪肉碎

Though Stir-Fried Clams with Thai Chilli Sauce is a recommended dish on the menu, we did not find the dish anything out of the ordinary. It's spicy as indicated and the only thing is that the clams were fresh.

Stir Fried Clams with Thai Chilli Sauce 泰式辣味啦啦
Stir-Fried Clams with Thai Chilli Sauce 泰式辣味啦啦 - $12

Squid rings are recommended as they are meaty and fresh. The lime juice together with the chilli gravy had given a zesty sour yet sweet and spicy flavour to the dish.

Squid with Lime Sauce 辣椒柠檬墨鱼

If you are going for an individual portion, you can try ordering their Thai Fried Kway Tiao. The "Wok-Hei" together with the kiffir Lime had spelt a difference on the dish. Ingredients are simple slices of carrot, chicken, Kailan and egg.

Thai Fried Kway Tiao with Kai Lan 泰式炒粿条

A dish that you either like it or hate. While I enjoy the fragrance of olive oil, I find that the dish tastes great though it might look plain without many ingredients.

Olive Fried Rice 橄榄炒饭

The soft sweet savoury pineapple fried rice was spot on. Ingredients lend a good texture with chewy raisins, crunchy cashew nuts and fragrantly prepared together with meat floss.

Pineapple Rice 黄梨炒饭

We had Red Ruby dessert to complete our meal. Glad that dessert tasted alright without having an overpowering coconut milk taste with sago. What's more, I love the crunchiness of the rubies.

The milk tea has subtle tea fragrance, not too strong and has a good milk taste, likewise, for the Ice Thai Green Tea, both levels of sweetness is great.

Thai Iced Tea & Thai Ice Green Tea - $3 Each
Soi Thai Kitchen is serving authentic Thai Food at affordable pricing without GST charges. Basically, that's the main reason why we are returning there so often! I guess its queue also tells us that it's well-liked by many.
