Ayam Penyet President

Craving for some good Ayam Penyet and luckily there is this popular chained restaurant selling Indonesian Cuisine. They are known for their succulent and well marinated famous Ayam Penyet served with addictive spicy chilli that will give you a gastronomic experience.

Ayam Penyet President

The default item that patrons will order, Smashed Fried Chicken aka Ayam Penyet. Their Signature smashed fried chicken cannot go wrong for their business name has been giving this name a big weightage. Chicken was crispy and served with fried crispy crumbs too. Fragrant and best of all, tender on the inside. It is served with Tofu, Tempeh, and their signature chilli paste.

Ayam Penyet - $6.90

The Grilled Chicken which is also known as Ayam Bakar was grilled to perfection. The sweet tasting layer coated their Signature grilled chicken was served with grilled tofu, tempeh, slice of cucumber and tomato. The tender chicken was already good alone by itself. It comes with cut chili in black sauce, however if you like to have additional firey kick for the meal, dabbed them into their Belacan Chilli.

Grilled Chicken - $6.90

The Grilled Beef is also known as Empal Bakar. The portion of meat was grilled and marinated with spices that gave a hint of sweetness. The meat was quite tough for me. This dish is served with grilled tofu, beancake and black sauce.

Grilled Beef - $8.90

The chicken did not include rice. You can pair them with either the pure white rice at $1 or this Yellow Fragrant rice. The portion of the rice is big and the strong tumeric fragrance can be smelled from a distance. The plate of rice is served with shredded eggs, sliced beancake dish and cucumber.

Yellow Fragrant Rice - $2.20

For those who need soup, it is free flow and self-service over at the counter near the kitchen. Those it was tasty, they tasted quite peppery.

Soup Self Service

The Indonesian Salad aka Gado-gado that I always cand go without if they have such an item on the menu. The dish consist of rick cake served with crackers and steamed vegetables with peanut sauce as dressing.

Gado-gado - $6.50

There is so many favourite items and one of them is none other than their Tahu Telor. Its Indonesian style beancurd omelette is garnished with beansprouts, sliced carrot and sliced cucumber. These items are served with rich peanut sauce

Tahu Telor - $6.50

Avocado Juice has always been my favourite choice in an Indonesian eating place. They are known for its high level of fats in which 60% are monosaturated fats and these are beneficial to lowering blood pressure and protect against heart disease.

Avocado Juice - $4.90

Cravings for a good Ayam Penyet meal were satisfied by our trip to JCube.

Ebi Bar

We chanced upon Ebi Bar one of the days while we were in Cuppage Plaza queuing up for True Breakfast. It was not the facade of the bar that made us attracted but in fact, it was the attention-catching smell that constantly diffused out from the kitchen that leads us to Ebi Bar. There, we make it a point one day to be back for this noodle.

As we enter the shop, the lady was hospitable and start to recommend the dishes they served.

Menu

Their "Chao Da" (Charred) Ebi Noodles was the Best-selling and Signature dish on its menu. The broth is cooked fresh daily with 40KG of prawns for more than 8 hours which explains the smell I'm inhaling while I'm queueing for my breakfast at their neighbouring shop.

The presentation caught me a surprise with the bowl served in a large Dim Sum basket. With 2 charred Prawns served atop the ramen with 3 slices of Pan Seared Chicken and beansprouts in a sweet, rich umami prawn broth.

I love soup and yes, I had the whole bowl of it down into my stomach. For all we know, there is no MSG, no pork and no lard included.

While most of us expect Prawn Mee to be paired with the typical thick yellow noodles, Ebi Bar has made this local prawn noodle a twist with Japanese Cuisine by replacing it with springy ramen. The Ramen was chewy and soaked up the essence of the rich prawn broth.

Not only that the Charred Prawn had packed a good smokey flavour and its juiciness makes the dish an addition.

The shell was tough and hard, thus it took me some time to deshell it. Nonetheless, the service rendered was good as the attentive staff took notice and start providing tissue and wet wipes.

The typical Hokkien Noodles we have is always served on a plate but they have theirs in a bowl. Hokkien Noodles was special with thick awesome broth, coupled with Mentaiko that gave additional texture. However, the use of Mentaiko was generous which resulted in the dish being on the saltier side. Lime was also given to enhance the taste. Seafood such as the big prawns were full of smokey flavours. Small prawns were also included together with Squid too.

How the prawns and broth were done and how the squid was artistically cut, tell us that really mean business in their preparation. If you are looking to have some local Prawn Noodles with Japanese Fusion, you can't go wrong visiting Ebi Bar.

Traditional Healthy Soup

One of our meals with traditional healthy soup again and this place has been popular among the estate for they have served delicious soup throughout the years. We ordered the bowls of soup and wanted to ordered the side dishes but was told that they are no longer preparing them.

Stall of Traditional Healthy Soup

They offer a variety of soups starting at the cost of $4.50 not inclusive of rice.

Menu

Let's guess what we have ordered from the colors of the soup.

Our Meals

Pumpkin rice is one of the popular takes among the olive, yam and white rice. I'm quite lucky to grab a bowl before it gets sold out. The rice was slightly brownish in color coupled with some cabbages and smashed pumpkins.

Pumpkin Rice

The Lotus Root peanut pork ribs soup was superb. Pork ribs are tender and soup was robust with peanuts taste.

Lotus Root Peanut Pork Ribs Soup 莲藕花生排骨汤 - $5

Upon seeing the Pig's Stomach Soup in the menu, I was pretty excited as I missed the soup quite alot.
The soup was milky in color and portion was surprisingly generous. It had a handful of well cleaned stomach coupled with wolf berries and gingko nuts.

Pepper Gingko Nut Pig's Stomach Soup 胡椒百果猪肚汤 - $5

The soup is definitely yummy and value for money. It has a good amount of peppery taste but was not spicy and natural sweet in taste.

Pig's stomach

We had a satisfying meal and it is possible that we may be back again for other types of soup.

Blanco Court Prawn Mee

With so many Prawn Mee Noodles available everywhere nowadays, we are all spoilt for choices. My last visit to Blanco Court Prawn Mee was in the year 2016 and it seems like the interior has no changes at all, even that signboard at its entrance.

Blanco Court Prawn Mee

Blanco Court Prawn Mee is still famous and considered one of the "must-try" in the category of Prawn Noodles. For they have been business for a long, they are well-loved by many and have a steady stream of supporters over the years.

Despite the long queue, the service remains friendly and polite. I queued and order to pay but I didn't know my table number. The staff was friendly enough to let me check and update her in a while. With the table number given, food will be served to our seats.

We ordered the classic style of prawn noodles as it is our comfort food. We had it with yellow noodles but you can choose to have Kway Teow, Vermicelli or even thick Bee Hoon. The dry version of prawn noodles was accompanied by a bowl of strong flavour soup. It was satisfying. The yellow noodle was tossed in chilli and crispy pork lards that elevate the taste.

Prawn Noodle 虾面 - $6.50

Prawns in the bowl were halves and served with bean sprouts as well as kang kong. The fried shallots added fragrance to the dish but were not oily.

Prawn

The soup version of prawn noodles was better as it has the naturally sweet taste of the pork ribs.

Prawn & Pork Ribs Noodle 虾排骨面 - $6.50

The pork ribs were cooked to a perfect texture where it falls off the bone easily without losing their taste.

I love the robust and savoury prawn broth that packed a bit of the old school prawn noodles flavour.
For those who are waiting for their food, most of them will order Ngoh Hiong from the adjacent stall.

After all, Blanco Court Prawn Mee is still will be in my dictionary of Prawn Mee if I'm thinking of recommending Prawn Mee in Singapore.

The prawn mee that I have always been wondering of every time I pass by Beach Road. It was an impromptu decision on a Saturday morning and we made a trip down for breakfast, finally!

Blanco Court Prawn Noodles

The man prefers to have a bigger bowl for his stomach and got himself a big portion at $5.80 instead of the smaller portion that cost $1 less.

Prawn Noodles - $5.80 (Big)

Prawn noodle soup was topped with fried onions in oil, enhancing the flavours of the original bowl of noodles. The broth of the noodle plays an important role and at a very first mouthful of it, the taste of it had already stolen all my tastebuds away. It's sweet and rich flavourful soup was awesome.

Closer Look

There are not too much prawns in the prawns and pork ribs noodle. Sharing the same taste in the soup, this delicacy is undeniably one of the best in Singapore. Pork Ribs were cooked to such a way that meat fell off easily from its bone.

Yummy! I'm glad a trip to Beach Road is all worthwhile after all, the taste was real good!

There are a few handfuls of tasty prawn noodles I have known and Blanco Court's prawn mee was somehow comparable to those. If you have more to spend, try ordering the 3 in 1 Noodle that consists of Prawn, Ribs and Tail to enjoy a full dining experience or if you are keen on bigger prawns, try out the Jumbo Prawn Noodle!

Di Wei Teochew Restaurant

Di Wei Teochew Restaurant is one of the F&B located in Seletar Aerospace housed in a former Colonial British Bungalow. Di Wei specializes in Teochew Cuisine and apparently has been quite reputable for their authenticity in Teochew Cuisine via words of mouth.

Di Wei Teochew Restaurant

As the trip to Di Wei Teochew Restaurant was an impromptu decision, there was no reservation made and their indoor seatings were full. Therefore we were told to take the outdoor seating.

Outdoor Seating

While I'm expecting to sink myself in some Authentic Teochew Food and environment, our orders were taken by a waitress that spoke to us in Mandarin with a Cantonese accent then followed by the Cantonese dialect. That instantly threw my mood away and made me set a lower expectation in a Teochew restaurant.

View from the front

The outdoor seating that we were at was spacious and airy. Since we are only the customers sitting outside, it made us feel privileged, just like we have booked the entire outdoor area.

There are a few variations of Yam Ring, Sweet & Sour Pork, Chicken, Large Prawn or Pork Ribs.
We took the recommended selection from the menu. The pork ribs were evenly coated with sweet sauce and were tender to chew on together with the crispy Yam ring. This dish was delectable.

Pork Rib Yam Ring 排骨芋卷- $25

We started off with their Signature Teochew Liver Roll. The presentation of the roll looks similar to Ngoh Hiong with its crispy fried beancurd skin wrapping up the fillings.

Teochew Liver Roll 潮州式干花 - $12 Per Roll

It is to pair with the sweet sauce given. Though it is good, I'm still not used to the gamey taste of the liver.

A portion of the Teochew Liver Roll

Well executed with some tasty gravy, not salty and can be eaten alone without pairing with white rice. The plate consists of carrots, broccoli, mushroom and scallops.

Stir-Fried Broccoli & Scallops 带子炒西兰花 - $18

One of us was excited to try out the Teochew Braised Shark's Fin and we ordered a personal portion for sharing.

Teochew Braised Shark's Fin 潮州小鲍翅 - $28 (Per Pax)

For the portion, the ingredients were generous and taste was delighting.

Closeup of the Shark's Fin

No doubt that the Grouper Fish Porridge is the restaurant's recommendation, the regulars will prefer to order their Pomfret Fish Porridge instead. Though we are just an hour into their business operations for the day, their Pomfret Fish Porridge was already sold out.

Grouper Fish Porridge 石斑鱼粥 - $25

The Teochew Style Porridge had left a big impression on me as their porridge was not the usual ones we often had from the porridge stall. Traditionally, this ethnic style of preparation is having rice in soup. Even as a Teochew, I seldom had such Porridge.

Fish Soup was excellently done. I love the light and fragrant taste of such porridge with ingredients none other than slices of grouper fish, seaweed, coriander, preserved mustard and ginger strips.

My Serving

The Teochew Oyster Omelette is fluffy and topped with a handful of Oysters. It was also good to pair with the sweet and sour chilli given.

Teochew Oyster Omelette 潮州蚝煎蛋 - $12

Washing the food down with a glass of Water Chestnut and we decided to head towards Hangar66 for some desserts.

Water Chestnut - $2.80

The Standard of food is good, however, there were only these dishes that we ordered. I'm still looking forward to dining in the next round and enjoying their Pomfret Fish Porridge which was sold out. Not only that, I will like to try out more on their traditional Teochew dishes that is quite rare in the in market.
