Brazil Santos in Moka Pot

I am kind of hooked to the aroma from the coffee beans recently and to be honest, I start drinking coffee so frequently again after so many years.

Furthermore, the process of grinding coffee beans as well as brewing it ourselves had made drinking coffee enjoyable.

We tried the Medium Roast Beans and we simply love the Buttery as well as Nutty Notes of the Brazil Santos Coffee Bean.

Brazil Santos

From the aroma to the taste, I find that this is really addictive especially in its dark cocoa and hazelnuts flavours.

The video features that from the time we took the roasted coffee beans for a manual grind till it is to be served in a coffee cup.

Sabar

Sabar is a specialist Mackeral Fish Restaurant in Singapore. It's an Izakaya that serves premium mackerel and other variety Japanese Cuisine. They use top quality mackerel from North Pacific Coast Japan.

The Interior was adorned with Japanese style decorative and wood partitions, giving patrons a comfortable settings to dine in.

Environment

I love having fish in my meal however, every time when it comes to saba fish, I will be kind of a drawback as the memory of stinky fishy fish and lots of fish bones hits me. With my friend recommendation, I decided to give it a try as she mentioned that she had tried it out on a Weekday with the set at half the price on a usual day.

The Bento Set comprises a generous piece of Saba Fish, Chawanmushi, Miso Soup, Yellow Pickles as well as a bowl of salad dressed in roasted sesame.

Grilled Toro-Saba とろさば 塩焼きせット -  $25

Saba Fish was beautifully cut in half and grilled to its brown perfection. The skin was so well-grilled that having them gave me the slightest crisp texture. The size of the fish is bigger than what I expected than those we had in the Hawker Center & Coffee Shop. The portion is big that we can actually have a set and share between 2 pax.

The Saba Fish is lightly coated with a thin layer of salt and having Lemon juice squeezed over the piece of the Fish enhanced the flavours on it.

Grilled Squid is ordered to share between ourselves.

Grilled Squid - $13.80

The weekday promotion on Grilled Toro-Saba Set is definitely attractive. Having tried this on a weekend, I would say that the price is worth paying for. I make me realise that Saba Fish can be so yummy.

Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee

If you are in Hong Lim Market and Food Centre, there are a few staples stall that you cannot leave the place without buying their food and one of them is Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee, especially when this is recommended by Michelin Guide. The stall is quite obvious as its near to the entrance of the MSCP (Multi Storey Car Park)

Stall of Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee

We ordered Chicken Curry Yellow Noodle, it look similar to a bowl of laksa perhaps for its color. I'm not a Yellow Noodle person but I believe that this combination goes well with the curry as compared with the thin strands of white Bee Hoon.

The ingredients comprise of slices of fish cakes, bean sprouts, Tau Pok and chunks of potato in the curry broth, of course not forgetting the big pieces of poached Hainanese Chicken too.

Curry Chicken Mee - $6

I like the fact that the potato was cooked to the texture that it was soft yet did not disintegrate at the slightest pressure with our utensils. Another good note will be that the curry did not contain too much coconut milk and this style clearly suits me.

Poached Chicken

The meat texture on the other hand was smooth and juicy. It lends a pleasant sweetness despite being soaked in the curry and not having the curry taste overpowering it.

Tai Wah Pork Noodle 大华肉脞麵 (High Street)

I guess this Pork Noodle needs not much introduction. Tai Wah Pork Noodles is considered as one of the popular Bak Chor Mee (BCM) and is a Bib Gourmand recipient.

The small bowl of Mee Pok dry at $6 comprises ingredients like 3 meatballs, dumplings, fried sole fish, lean meat, minced pork as well as pork liver, decked up by the Mee Pok.

Mee Pok Dry - $6 (Small)

No doubt that the springy noodle taste loaded with a good punch of chili as well as vinegar, with a small portion at the price of $6 comparing to the market rate to a bowl of Bak Chor Mee, this may be a little bit steep.

The medium portion of noodles has significantly more ingredients as compared to the smaller portion. More sole fish, pork and meatballs were seen.

The soup on the other hand was tasty and addictive. It also help to cleanse the palates.

The liver cooking timing was perfect. It was tender and pink.

The queue was relatively long for a Saturday morning and if you asked if the food and price is worthwhile, I would say I won't spend time queuing the next round.

Feng Xiang Authentic Klang Bak Kut Teh

What's popular in Beauty World Hawker Center? Besides the usual stalls we have visited over the years, this Klang Bak Kut Teh has been the talk of the town recently.

Besides rice and porrdige, you can choose to have Mee Sua in Herbal Soup.

Herbal Soup Mee Sua 药材汤白面线 - $1.20

It seems like a trend that the Fried Porridge is a dish that a Bak Kut Teh stall has to cater nowadays as it is a common sight from the stalls. This piping hotdish is served in a clay pot. It was topped with lards, fried shallots, spring onions as well as cut cuttlefish to give the umami taste.

Sliced Pork Fried Porridge 肉片炒粥 - $5.90

The smoky flavours in the porridge were strong in every spoonful. The porridge was thick and consistent.

A spoonful of the Porridge

The big intestines were well soaked in the braised sauce. They were cleaned and does not have any funny taste or smell.

Braised Large Intestine 卤大肠 - $4.90

The braised sauce was thick and full of flavours.

Stir-Fry Pork Liver is heavily flavoured, having each piece of liver evenly coated with the sweet black sauce. The texture was perfect with the right amount of tenderness. It was cooked to the correct timing and was not hardened.

Stir-Fry Pork Liver 干香猪肝 - $5.90

Besides the sweet sauce, a handful of cut strips of cuttlefish was mixed among the Stir-Pork Liver, this enhanced the fragrance of the dish too.

Heavily Coated in Sauce

With the rest of the dishes compared, the Herbal Bak Kut Teh is mild on the palate. It was applauded for not having MSG included. It was a bowl of comforting soup enough to warm the tummy without too much significance of strong herbal taste that I'm looking for.

Herbal Bak Kut Teh (soup) 药材肉骨茶 - $6.90

All in all, I find that their style is more towards a salty taste with heavier flavours. Though I'm more biased towards Herbal Bak Kut Teh, I find that the taste can be better.

Hai Sheng Carrot Cake

Hai Sheng Carrot Cake is one of the stalls that I noticed having long queues among the stalls in the 216 Bedok Food Center and Market. The lady was watching over the guy preparing the order. We will assume that the son is taking over the fire from the mum.

A traditional sweet savoury fried carrot cake in black is still my preference. The price of a plate of carrot cake comes in 3 sizes, from $2, $3 and $4. Nowadays, it's hard to get a plate of $2 food except in a hawker centre like this.

Fried Carrot Cake - $2 (Black)

The plate of Fried Black Carrot Cake is pretty decent with sweet-tasting black sauce and natural egg sweetness. The carrot cake is run of the mill type but good enough for a simple breakfast if you want to fill a portion of your stomach.
