Sari Bistari

I was quite excited when I heard that we will be heading to Changi Village for Yummy food over the weekends and one of them will be Sari Bistari's Nasi Ayam Penyet.

It's quite easy to locate the stall as they are at the end of the rows and can never be missed with such delicious Nasi Penyet Pictures over a striking purple background.

Sari Bistari
Unlike the well known Nasi Lemak Stalls nearby, there are no queues at Sari Bistari Stall which made ordering quick and efficient. In no time I received my plate of Nasi Ayam Penyet with a plate of fragrant rice and a small bowl of soup contained in Styrofoam. Rice was fragrant topped with fried onions, as well as the given soup.

Nasi Ayam Penyet
Ayam was deep fried into golden brown in color, smashed and flattened with cripsy crumbs covering up the big yummy thigh. It was palatable and succulent. It was crispy and easy on the teeth. However one point to note is that we have to handle the crumbs well if not it will be messy on the table.

Close up
Presentation wise, they looked pleasant to the eyes with greens tuck by the side and a saucer filled with hot chilli to pair with the deep fried thigh.

Ayam Penyet with Chilli

To wrap up, I kind of like the crispy and easy on teeth texture of the chicken but if I were to compared them to other Nasi Ayam Penyet I had before, they are consider quite decent, nice but not to die for.

Chicken Talk Kitchen

Good news to Muslim Pal in the west! Chicken Talk Kitchen Cafe is a Muslim family owned cafe located in West Coast area. With good feedback from colleagues, its hard to resist a new place as its vicinity is somewhere I'm familiar with.

Chicken Talk Kitchen
Chicken Talk Kitchen in short CTK is spacious with walls painted black, furnished with white dining tables. The environment was quite cooling with air-conditioned environemnt and fans circulating the air.

Environment
Cream of Chicken was the soup of the day and it was rather ordinary, not too creamy nor bland.

Soup of the day - $4
Packets of fresh Australian Milk made up part of the beverages. Chai Tea had a distinct herb flavour and blended in well with the natural light milky taste from the milk while Salted Caramel drink was a better choice comparing the two beverages if you want to skip the Chai Flavour.

Iced Chai Milk Tea - $4 (Left) & Iced Salted Caramel -$4 (right)

Interestingly served in a granite slab which I never thought that we would get such presentation from a HDB cafe.

Monterey Jack Chicken Cheese - $13

Monterey Jack Chicken was well marinated with charred grilled lines on the chicken breast and toppped with BBQ Sauce, beef Bacon, cheese & diced Tomatoes. Everything was stacked on top of a bed of mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

Monterey Jack Chicken Cheese - $13

The surprising "wow" did not die off after the first main dish and instead it brought onto the Burger Bako main too. It made me feel like dining in a classy environment when mains were served in its appealing presentation.

Burger Bako - $11 (Single)

Grilled beef pattie from the Burger Bako was a great choice, juicy and piled high with crispy beef bacon, eggs, cheddar cheese, onion rings, lettuce and tomatoes. Big eats can ask for an upgdate to double or even triple patties at different price.

Cross Section of the Burger

Earlier on, i received feedback that the service was kind of slow and not suitable for those who has short lunch hours. However I find that Chicken Talk Kitchen was one of the better food in the neighborhood that worth the time waiting for. On top of that there are no service charges too, servers are also friendly.

Baan Ying Cafe & Meal

With such high ratings shown under the Tripadvisor application on our mobile devices, its hard to give Baan-Ying a miss since we were near her doorsteps. Baan Ying is a restaurant chain in Bangkok noted for its reasonable pricing and serving of Thai food.

Baan Ying
The woody feel of the interior from the flooring to the walls as well as cabinets under the warm lighting made the place rather cozy to dine in.  Together with the festive seasons and decors, atmosphere was greatly enhance.

Menu consists of a few printed pages attached onto a wooden clipboard.

Menu
Out of the list of drinks, we had chosen Lemon grass drink and Pandan Leaf Tea. Lemongrass drink was decent, whereas Pandan Leaf Tea tasted abit on the artificial side with the luminous green under the bright lighting.

Lemongrass Tea & Pandan Leaf Tea - 70 Baht Each
Deep Fried Minced Pork Salad with Thai Herbs was one of the sides recommended by the restaurant. I'm not sure why is it called salad, perhaps because of the presence of cut long beans, cucumbers and lime?

Deep Fried Minced Pork Salad with Thai Herbs - 130 Baht
Minced pork formed the round size patty which was deep fried into dark brown in color. They were not too oily and easy to chill on. The infusion from dried chilli and thai herbs enhanced the taste of the dish.

Ramen Noodle in Thailand...Well, it just never come across my mind but this Northern Style Soup was really something stomach comforting. At the first look, it reminded me of Ramen in Kimchi soup from the Korean Cuisine. Roasted Pork was tender and ramen was rather springy.

Thai Fried Rice has been addictive in my records. Their style never fails to entice me, let alone this non signature dish on their menu. Grains was aromatic and fluffy served on a plate with beautifully sliced cucumbers and tomato. The two little stalks of coriander piercing through the heap of rice were also part of the presentation effort made. Besides having shrimps, eggs and crabs to bring out the flavours, condiments like lime juice and fish sauce was given.

Changi Village Carrot Cake

Tuck in the corner of Changi Village Hawker Centre, you will be able to see the one and only stall selling Carrot Cake and nothing else. It's quite easy to spot the stall as it is located just beside the bus interchange where commuters board the buses.

With the presence of the snaky queue, there is no doubt of their standard.

Changi Village Carrot Cake
The first mouthful of the black carrot cake had indeed told me how Changi Village Carrot Cake stands up among the rest. In my opinion, to survive on serving only a dish, popularity should be there and since they have been there for many years, somehow the taste just won't go wrong.

Carrot Cake - $2.50
I was swept by the presence of the eggs & black sauce together with the chopped garlic. Taste of chopped garlic was not too overpowering and strikes a right amount of sweet and saltiness among the cubes of soft black coated yummy carrot cakes.

If you want to take a break with a different taste from the usual Carrot Cake, Changi Village Carrot Cake should fit the bill!

Makan Melaka

We must be a little crazy not only to travel all the way from the West Side of Singapore to the East for food but also ensure that we have our stomach stuffed with desserts even after heavy meals. With so much rave on the best Chendol in Changi Village recently, I must have a try of it by hook or by crook.

Makan Melaka
The basic version of the Chendol is served without any toppings. Green coconut jelly left a great impression on the first mouthful. It was very soft but not soggy. Gula Melaka and Coconut milk were added, striking a good balance in the sweetness. However, I prefer to have a stronger fragrant and taste from the coconut milk.

Chendol - $1.50

There are a few variations of Chendol to choose from with toppings like, jelly, red beans or even durian. We had one of our bowls topped with red beans. It looks more interesting that the plain basic version. These red beans are bigger than the usual ones we had in red bean soups and soften.

Chendol with Red Beans - $1.80

In conclusion, I would not say they are the best chendol or similar to Melaka but they are of the closest taste whereby taste is like Melaka as well as their pricing. In fact Makan Melaka offers a range of Melaka Food which I had yet to try. I dont mind coming back again for them.

S & P Restaurant

Our stomachs were groaning soon after we landed in Bangkok and we spotted S & P as soon as we had our luggage checked as well as SIM cards purchased. Being so excited about having my first ever Thai Meal of the trip, we went ahead with S & P Restaurant without having comparisons with other restaurants available there.

S & P Simply Delicious
Facade
The crowd in S & P  Airport Cafe was considered fully pack with patrons queueing up, waiting for available seats during mid noon.

Menu

Sips from the Thai Iced Tea with milk was definitely satisfying! These strong brewed black tea in thai style is a common beverage that an eatery has. The authentic taste told me that I am in Thailand and definitely not dreaming.

Thai Iced Tea with Milk - 90 Baht / cup
Portion of Chicken Massaman Curry was smaller than the usual portions in Singapore.Curry maybe seen watery but actually rich in taste with potatoes, peanuts and five spice powder. The sweet and sour taste was really inviting.

Chicken Massaman Curry - 190 Baht

Fried rice vermicelli aka Phad Thai was ordered. It was fried with prawns and assorted vegetables. Rice vermicelli was a little dry but was flavourful wtih lime juice added on them. Raw bean sprouts and vegetables came along with the dish. I'm not really used to having bean sprouts raw, it would be better if they were at least semi cooked. And one thing to note that prawns were quite fresh.

Soon Heng Rojak

With media advertisements over the years and its reputatable Rojak which kept their die hard fans queue up to the escalator in the food court, I bet Soon Heng Rojak needs no introduction. Yes, I'm talking about Toa Payoh's Famous Rojak, the one which everyone speaks of, loaded with generous servings of peanuts.

Soon Heng Rojak
Stall is located in Gourmet Paradise - Food Court in Toa Payoh HDB hub just beside the escalator.  Queues barriers are arranged for patrons so as queues are neatly form and no unnecessary blockages to the walkways.

Even though the queue may require a wait as long as 20 minutes, it just never stop patrons from joining them and the queue just seems never ending.

The significance of the Rojak is none other than the peanuts that cover the entire plate .

Rojak - $4

In terms of value and proportion,  Soon Heng Rojak is definitely worth every cent you are paying for.

Before mixing the rojak

Ingredients like "you tiao" (fried fritters), turnips, pineapple, cucumber, blue ginger and beansprout are a common sight in a plate of rojak. Little portions of jellyfish was found under the lucious sweet prawn paste gravy with roasted peanuts elevating the fragrant of the dish! Mix them well and whet your appetite for more but do becareful not to spill the peanuts out of the plate.
