Heng Leong Carrot Cake

I had visited Pek Kio Food Centre to check out the top stalls that had been spreading online recently. Wanted to try the mentione carrot cake but I was too late and they were sold out by the time when it was my turn in the queue. Since there are a few carrot cake stall, I had chosen Heng Leong Carrot Cake as the alternative.

Heng Leong Carrot Cake

I'm was dumbfolded by the price of the plate of black carrot cake. $1.50? I thought such pricing had already long gone? Their carrot cake was done in a old school style where each plate comes with generous portion of eggs, fluffy and fragrant. The size of each piece of carrot cake is big and consistently coated with black sauce. I find it too sweet for my liking.

I'm still searching for a plate of traditional Carrot Cake which uses pork lard. Yes, I know its sinful but that is the way how delicious and definitely a good reminiscent of my childhood favourite!

Till if I come across one, I will let you know :)

Xiang Ji Bak Kut Teh

Highly recommended by my colleagues for their traditional taste "古早味" Mee Sua Soup, I could not resist and decided to give it a try. Among the stalls in the canteen, they are one of the popular ones with queues formed in front of the stall.

Service by the lady was friendly and efficient, those who had made the order and made their payments may go back to their seat and wait to be served.

Xiang Ji Bak Kut Teh Stall
Mee Sua soup comes in two concoction, with fried fish or pig innards. Every bowl of Mee Sua is prepared base on order and require some waiting time.

Soup broth was make up of herbal taste of the pig organ soup and reminds me of Malaysian Style Black Bak Kut Teh. The Fish version was really a steal, it not just a few slices of battered fish nuggets given, instead, it comes with a big chunk fried to a distinct golden brown perfection.

Mee Sua Soup with Fish - $4.50
Portion from the Pig Innard Mee Sua was not that bad either, generous, using the same herb-infused soup base with hints of white peppery taste. Pig innards were clean and fresh, without any rancid taste. Though it was special and one of its kind, I would prefer a stronger herb taste within my bowl.

Magnum Singapore Pleasure Store

The Magnum store had moved from Vivocity into Custom House Terrace and the good news is that they have extended their stay for another month! Pleasure seekers, what are you waiting for?

Magnum Store

Customization of Magnum make easy in a few steps.
(1) Head into the Pleasure Store and to the cashier counter
(2) Pay $7 and queue for customization of the magnum classic
(3) Choose your choice of chocolate Coating (Milk / Dark / White Chocolate)
(4) choose 3 toppings (about 18 for selection)

Toppings

(5) Choose your favourite chocolate drizzle (Milk / Dark / White Chocolate)

Coating and drizzle
I had my 3 toppings: Chocolate Hearts, Pistachio nuts and gold nuggets. My Customized Magnum is coated in their signature cracking Belgian Chocolate, sprinkled with my choice of toppings.

End Product - $7

Magnum Ice Cream stick
The decorations on the customized classic stick had marked a stop with a button "M" chocolate

"M" Button chocolate
My indulgence with Magnum is perfect. At the first bite off the hardened chocolate coating reveals the classic and pure milky white creamy Magnum. It melts a lot faster than expected. I like my choices of toppings except the gold nuggets as they were too hard and sweet on my teeth.

Cracking Belgian Chocolate

The video shows the part towards the end of the customization where the Magnum guy drizzle the white chocolate on my customized Ice Cream.

To sum up, I would say it is a good experience to have enjoyed Magnum in a unique way and tailed made based on our preference. Since this is a Pop up store by magnum in celebration of their 25th Anniversary and they will be here  till 23rd August 2014. Do catch them before its gone!

Shun Li

Shun Li was one of the few stalls that were in operation when I was there after the common lunch hours. I followed the long queues in making a decision for my lunch and it wasn't that bad.

Shun Li

Braised innards were well handled and not lacking of its braised flavour. Though the color was a bit faint than the usual we had, the consistency and taste is there.

Mixed Organs - $4

The Kway was sold out and I had Mee Sua as the alternative to pair with the plate of braised mixed organs. Mee Sua was not salty and condiments like pepper, fried shallot oil and spring onions were added to boost it favours.

Mee Sua -$0.50
Yummy! Rich in taste with sweetness. Addictive and once you start the first spoonful, it's so hard to stop. Luckily we had the larger bowl!

Pig Organ Soup - $5
I had fallen for its soup! Though after taking more than half the bowl of it, the thirstiness level in me is still manageable. It's very obvious I will make a return at Shun Li!

Two Blur Guys

Two Blur Guys, an inquisitive name given for a burger joint located in Orchid Hotel. The story behind such naming is about 2 guys who had shown their passion for burgers and pastries in a New York Concept Cafe. Knowing nuts after the food industries, they discovered a new way of serving burgers which blew them away.

Two Blur Guys
Seats are pretty limited but still it serves as a cosy eating joint for burgers. Environment was compact for dining and the smells of burger patties lingers amongst the air. Even though they were known for their blurness, a slight humour they have made was to assure customers with such sentence on their menu "Do excuse us because we're blur about everything. Except our burgers...Maybe". Ha!

Interior
Burgers meals were served with a solid wooden board with chilled homemade potato salad and balsamic vinegar sprinkled on the crunchy greens. Their sandwiched was specially designed with wholemeal bread.

Pulled Pork Burger - $13.85

An option for dinners to have pulled pork or the chicken burger. Burger was packed warmth with marinated pulled pork encased by the layer of gruyere cheese with honey mustard spreaded on them, the harmony of sauce with its tender and succulent pork

Cheesy Pork Burger

Juicy and thick Prime beef patty stuffed in between the wholemeal flavour with big-sized streaky bacon and Gruyere Cheese

Prime Beef with Streaky Bacon - $17.95

After so much rave on Two Blur Guys, I can finally strike them off my "to eat" list. Burgers maybe a tad expensive due to its location and premium ingredients used. I would say burger are good but not to die for and dont worry, those guys aren't that blur after all. On a side note, service is friendly and there is no GST charge for now.

Chop Lian Hin [Closed]

We had discovered Chop Lian Hin during one of our trips to Teban Hawker Centre and the crowds outside its shop had brought additional awareness to curious beings like me. Like any typical Singaporean, long queues had given us a perception that the food is good and I bet it on this, thus the reason why I'm here for lunch!

Chop Lian Hin

We made our orders as soon as we settled down. Belachan chilli was served shortly to our tables. Unlike the usual Cze Char dining places, utensils were readily placed on every table.

Belachan Chilli

The milky soupy dish had completed my day on a cool weather. Although much ginger and evaporated milk was added, the taste were not too overpowering. Noodles was smooth and silky in the broth that gave off a light XO taste. A handful of greens were added and the thick fat generous chunk of sliced fish was the scene stealer.

Fish Meat Bee Hoon - $4.50

Overall it's fresh and awesome! If you were to ask me about the downside, I would say that one has to be careful of bones among the meat as well as the scales on the fish skins. Remove them.

Thick Fish - Be careful of its bones

Served straight to our table immediately out from the scalding oil wok, these fried chicken were aromatic. well marinated and crispy at its external layer,  fried golden brown to perfection.

Prawn Paste Chicken - $9

Cripsy Chicken at a closer look

Pricing is reasonable and a bowl of XO Fish Noodle Soup may cost at least S$6.00 in other coffeeshop. Chop Lian Hin offered is definitely a steal! However the downside of the place is its seating capacity. Seats are rather limited and we have learn to be earlier next round!

"Kiasu" abit, one can actually call up and make reservations for their lunch.

Bah Ji Teochew Satay Bee Hoon [Closed]

There is only 3 types of dishes that is available in the stall, the famous award winning Satay Bee Hoon, fresh cockles and Cuttlefish KangKong. By just one look at the stall front, it makes me feel very comfortable with its ingredients systematically laid out under the bright white florescent tube.

Bah Ji Teochew Satay Bee Hoon
This place is introduced by my friend for its delectable plate of satay Bee Hoon especially. Mixed with a right consistency of the smooth and nutty texture satay sauce and of course with its freshest ingredients.

Satay Bee Hoon - $3.50 (Small)  in oval plate
Satay Bee Hoon - $5.00 (Big) in round plate
The usual ingredients in combination of the shoe string Bee Hoon consist of liver (Teochew's style), prawns, Tau Poak, Cockles, kangkong and lean meat.

Cuttlefish
The stall helpers are rather friendly and served with a smile. Do note that self service is required at the stall.

Pig Liver
All in all, the only let down is perhaps the use of cockles, though fresh the size is smaller than usual.  For cockles lover, this is going to be disappointing. On a side note, those who enjoy their satay sauce, their special satay sauce is available for sale.
