Raffles Marina

Raffles Marina Bistro, a place that filled me with more and more memories. It is located in Raffles Marina Country Club in Tuas West Drive, just a stone throw away from Tuas Checkpoint. They serves a good spread of food, namely Indian, Western, Local and dessert cuisine.

Menu
Enjoy the therapeutic marina view of yatch berthing alongside with wooden plank walks with the sunset. Such view in Singapore is rare, the alfresco dining and fantastic view of the harbour and sea especially.

Towards to right, we got a good view long highways bridging Tuas Check Point (2nd Link) and  Johor Bahru.

2nd Link to JB
Look at these tables, there were prepared for use of buffets. In fact, Raffles Marina is also quite popular with their Indian Buffet offered during lunch time. Well, their Briyani is one of the best I had tried so far. Do also take note that the buffet is not a daily thing.

Signature Mocktail, a great summer blend using the freshest coconut. Its unique flavor makes it refreshing on its own or paired with a great meal. With the backdrop of the sunset, it had made this summer drink perfect for that moment.

Marina Breeze - $7 each
An add-on of $1 to the Grilled Halibut fish allowed us to enjoy a serving of soup of the day and ice cream as the dessert. We was presented with Minestrone soup as soup of the day with a wedge from the baguette spreaded by garlic cream, toasted. The soup was full of ingredients and perfect munch with the crispy toast dipped in.

Soup of the day
If you think that Ikea Chicken Wings are good, I bet that these are definitely better. These golden crispy brown wings were flavourful, intensively marinated with a good taste deep down to its meat. They were served in a basket on dolly paper with a little parsley stalk by the side.

Chicken Wings (3pcs) - $7.50

Fish and Chips lover, this is your take! Price may seems a little bit steep perhaps but the portion had explained its worthiness. 3 Long fillets given with a bed of fries and its salad by the side. Spread the Tartar sauce on the golden fillet to enjoy the delicious spread of the western cuisine.
Fish & Chips $14
Woot! Look at the scrumptious golden brown dish in front of your eyes.

The Grilled Halibut was fresh and was delicately done with vegetables (Carrots, potatoes, cucumbers etc) that was creatively cut. The fish was cooked to softness accompanied by portions of pasta sauce, an appetizing dish of the night.

Grilled Halibut Fish Fillet - $23.50
The classy outlook of a scoop of ice cream over the dolly paper and the ice cold glass. This Almond Pistachio Ice Cream by Movenpick was topped with a slice of strawberry was my perfect ending on my dinner.
Movenpick Almond Pistachio
The skylines were mesmerizing during the blue hours. This is a perfect spot to romance your date and enjoy your meal with sea breeze blowing towards your cheek at intervals.

There was a Surcharge of 15% and tax 7%. The verdict is enjoyable food with waterfront dining at affordable price. Moreover Raffles Marina Bistro is opened to the public and offers the executives from nearby industrial area an hour long lunch escape from the weariness of work. The only letdown was that its service was a little bit lacking.

All in all, I think it's highly recommended place to bring your guests and your date here.

First Hong Kong Cafe

First Hong Kong Cafe is located in TradeHub 21 which serves a good spread of Hong Kong delights. A glance through the environment and you will find that there is a enormous pot standing up to the lady's shoulder level. It serves an important role to roast up to a number of delicious duckies daily.

First Hong Kong Cafe

Looking at their roasted delights, the cafe had highly recommend her patrons to try out their Kung Fu Roasted Duck as that was the main highlights on their menu. By looking at the banner pasted on the glass panels, those Kung Fu Roasted Duck had undergone several processes before reaching such  glossy looking appearance and its delectable taste.

Kung Fu Duck Process
Fruits & Vegetables Juice on the Menu sounded healthy and without much hestitation, I went ahead ordering. Just as expected, it was rich of chlorophyll taste but that was diluted by the sugar, water and ice cubes added. Not much of the 'raw' taste and it was good enough, not as though one was consuming the grasses. While ice lemon tea was standard tasting, but they were generous with the slices of lemon.

Fruits & Vegetables Juice - $3, Ice Lemon Tea -$1.70
Another signature dish from First Hong Kong will be its Abalone Noodle, there was a bigger portion at $12 but I had chosen its smaller version instead. The noodle reminded me of Ah Lam's Abalone Noodles as the abalone was pierced through a satay stick with braised sauce coated lightly on them. The noodles was doused with substantial amount of chilli sauce accompanied by ingredients like a round fish cake, meatball, a cabbage leaf, scallop with its shell, prawn, minced and lean meat.

Abalone Noodle - $6
Being a Teochew all these while, this was the first time I had ever tasted a Teochew Hor Fun. It tasted close to a good plate of white carrot cake! Just like the traditional carrot cake, these hor fun was fried with eggs, chai po (preserved vegetables) and chopped spring onions. Unique and really stands up fitting the cafe's signature dish.

Teochew Hor Fun - $6
Next, it's kung fu roasted duck. We ordered a quarter portion and this blistered looking crackling skin had us on first sight. The only let down was that the meat was not easily detachable from its bone. Perhaps these were all the significance of an authentic Roasted Meat with a remarkable portion of fats seen.

Kung Fu Duck (1/4) - $12.50

For those who like roasted duck, do not ever leave the place without having tried this!

Roasted Duck

Hidden amongst the industrial area, the place was rather inaccessible as it was far away from the MRT station. However the cost and quality of food were reasonable and value for money at least!

Wanton Mee at PG416

Hong huat Chicken Rice is hidden among the HDB Blocks where PG 416 coffee house is located. Position of the stall was awkward, perhaps what a normal stall would do is to have their signboard hanging right up above the stall. For Hong Huat Case, theirs was hanging above too but was adjacent to their stall. It was both a good and bad placement, good in the sense that it's readily visible to any patrons that walked passed the Coffee House and bad in the sense that it was not the "normal scene" that most of us had expected.

Loook at the delicious Roasted Meat and Char Siew Rice that was drenched with generous amount of sweet black sauce. Roasted Pork meat has consistent layers of fats within and a thin layer of crispy skin on its top and bottom. Yums!

Char Siew & Roasted Meat Rice - $3.50
At a pocket friendly pricing, I had received a big plate of wanton noodle filled with lean slices of bright char siew mee. The sauce was all hidden under the bed of thin yellow noodles (You Mian). 2 types of chilli was given, the red and the green chilli, mixed them well together with the garnish as well as the black sauce. A bowl of soup with 3 wantons was given, the soup was tasty with fried onion fragrance.
Wanton Noodles - $2.50

The coffee house was rather crowded during lunch hours and seating were limited. With such a friendly pricing and a big portion, there was no doubt about their good business. A wait about 10 minutes may be required. Do check out them out!

Happy Fish

Happy Fish is located at Koufu Food Court in Anchor Point Shopping Centre. Not only did they sell fish related dishes, they are also selling home made noodles. They were one of the few stalls that were opened on a Sunday evening.

Happy Fish Stall
Not many fish soup stall in singapore had such combination - bitter-gourd, fried fish pieces and vegetables. The fish soup had surprised us with a different taste than the usual fish soup we had from most of the hawkers. There was a distinct fragrance in the soup which reminded me of certain chinese cooking wine. Most of the time, we get to have oily fish meat from stalls nearing the end business day but from Happy Fish, the fried fishes looks good and not that mushy.

Fried Fish Noodle Soup -$4.50
These Pan Fried Guo Tie were just mere ordinary, nothing to rave about but more likely from a standard packet of frozen food that one can get off the chillers in a supermarket.

Fried Dumplings (Guo Tie) -$6
Overall, I think that the fish soup was unique. Do give it a try.

Viet / Tom Yam

Viet / Tom Yam is located at the basement of Koufu food court in Anchor Point. I was first recommended to this stall many years back for its delicious Thai and Vietnam food. Viet / Tom Yam served a wide spread of vietnam and thai cuisine, over 20 kinds of items on their menu.

Viet / Tom Yam Stall
I'm a fan of Viet's Thai Brisket Pho (Kway Teow / Rice Noodle) and I find that what Viet Thai served totally fits my taste buds. Initially I thought that the sweetness from the broth was abit on the high side but I realized that after squeezing some lime juice over, it had actually neutralized the taste by a little.

Slices of beef briskets included was tender and easily chewed. The soup was tasty with beansprouts and lettuce which sum up the entire dish. Though simple, the bowl of noodles was close to an authentic one in Viet name of course without the herbs.

Condiments can be self help at the payment counter as well. I love the Thai Chilli in fish sauce and had doused these beef briskets on them. Love it!

Beef Brisket Pho - $5

Price is reasonable considering the amount and quality of food received. Perhaps, the cheapest Viet's beef noodle soup in Alexandra area. Service wise, my order take no longer than 5 minutes.

Ocean Restaurant, Dine by the aquarium

The idea of dining in Ocean Restaurant has been in my back of mind for a long time since I had visited the World Largest Aquarium since February this year but was turned down by the restaurant due to overwhelming responses - their seating were full.

Fortunately, my wish was granted when I received some RWS wining meal vouchers through a lucky draw by a Bank.

Probably due to its novelty of dining by the side of the world largest aquarium, it was rather hard to grab its dinner slot, thus we had confirmed dining during the lunch hours instead.

Entrance is located at basement carpark, for those who are not driving and not entering the aquarium, they can actually hop onto the buggy to get there. But if you are visiting the S.E.A Aquarium, you can access the entrance via there.

Ocean Restaurant

My favourite color is blue and naturally I'm drawn to such beautiful environment especially when the interior was filled with ocean blue as its backdrop.

Walkways and dining area
Enticed by the dining environment and its spectacular view, everyone of us would have take out their mobile and had great pictures by the side of the glass panels.

For snapshots

How beautiful and amazing ambience with school of fishes swam across my vision at intervals. Having dine beside such view was a life enjoyment, perhaps better than any sky dining experience. Ups for the ambiance!

Aquarium

Dining set was already lined up on the table with the napkin rolled up. Just shortly we had seated, the servers showed their professions by placing the napkins onto our laps.

Dining Set and Corals
The seats were rather limited and may be one of the difficult reasons for us to do a reservation.

Ocean Restuarant Interior

Dining Environment

For the non alcoholic beverages, we had a glass of Ice Lemon Tea and Cranberry Juice to pair our lunch.
Ice Lemon Tea & Cranberry Juice

Fried Pork Seafood Roulade was yummy and reminds me of a cut section from Ngoh Hiong. Looks like a fusion of chinese and french cuisine. It was fried to golden brown crisp,  made up of chicken egg yolk, sweet muscat vinaigrette and ginger oil. The roll packed a crunchy noise in every bite with the chestnuts fillings. the only let down of this dish was that the vinaigrette sprinkled on the appetizer was miserable.

Fried Pork Seafood Roulade - $24
When it felt wrong and ironical to have Sashimi with the live fishes swimming in front of you. It's just like telling the fishes "Look! I'm eating your pals!"

The pieces of yellow tail (hamichi) was prepared with Sake Mirin Emuslion. While I'm searching for wasabi, there was none and I found out that they tastes great even without those spicy raddish. The dish was rather refreshing with citrus juice from the grapefruit. Texture of the dish was enhanced by adding Avruga Caviar & pink radish ice.

Yellow Tail Sashimi - $24

Braised Boneless Wagyu was paried with celeriac Puree, Sauteed Mushroom and Caramelized Oat meal. Flawlessly prepared, the meat was crispy at the exterior with even wellness and filled with juiciness as I chewed. Light & satisfying indeed.

Braised Boneless Wagyu Short Ribs - $35
Slow cooked salmon was adorned by the popping fish orange roes on the small slab of rolled up salmon accompanied by cauliflower tempura, cream cauliflower and hazel nuts. The salmon was put under fire in slow process in such that the meat of the inner and outer was consistently cooked. It tasted abit raw and abit cooked. Just like the wellness of the beef, medium well.

Slow Cooked Salmon - $34
Finally, the WoW reactions had come out from me. We looked at the desserts with wide opened eyes, it never disappoint. Vacherin had textures of Strawberry with Creme Fraiche. Presentation was lovely as it seems, just too bad that the portion was small.

Vacherin - $22
Mont Blanc make up of hazelnut Meringue, Chestnut Paste and Vanilla Ice Cream. Artistically designed with a cross pattern with golden glittering color drawn on the plate which makes the dessert stands up and live up to its namesake.

Mont Blanc - $22
Overall, I find that Ocean Restaurant Food was not as bad as I had read, I find them quite ok with a surprised in the desserts. How about it's service? Perhaps their service had improved over time, they were prompt in clearing away the emptied plates.  For fine dining in Singapore, I find that it is a norm to be costly and if not for the winning meal vouchers I would not even have the chance to step into such restaurant given its moderate reviews. After handing in the $100 RWS Meal Vouchers, we still have to fork out about $60. Well, looking at the price tag and quality, it's unlikely I would make a return unless I had friends who wanted to visit this place.

Meal Vouchers 5 x $20
Notes:
(1) Reservations to be advanced to avoid disappointment
(2) Carpark fees are expensive. We parked about 1 hour sharp costing $11.
(3) Minimum spending of $38 ++ per person is required.
(4) Place was rather cold, wear abit more.
(5) No serving of plain water.

It was a last minute decision to dine "overseas" and we quickly drive into Malaysia making our ways through the customs.

Restoran AnMour Cafe

AnMour Café , A homegrown modest American restaurant concept at Taman Sutera Utama offer an affordable and high quality food with exceptionally friendly service, ensuring everyone leaving the restaurant as well-satisfied patrons.

Here's the menu!
AnMour Cafe Menu

The buns were served warm in a basket and was very fluffy. It's best to go along with the given meat sauce and the soups.

While Lychee and Chocolate freeze were ice blended and rather standard, the name Deep Love (Drink in the Centre) somehow hinted a different meaning. A mixture of strawberry and passion fruits in soda, frizzy and sweet tasting drink.

Left to Right: Lychee Freeze, Deep Love and Chocolate Freeze
Rich flavour of fresh mushroom that comes with 2 crispy garlic toasts.

A little spicy here but sphagetti was cooked to Al Dente Perfection with handful of bacon bites to warm your stomach.

Bacon Aglio Olio Pasta - RM 9.90
This large burger packed a gigantic mixture of minced pork and beef patty was stomach filling! Accompanied by the thinly cut french fries and leafy greens sprinkled with citrus dressing.

Anmour Glam Burger
Herby tasting, the chicken chop dish was coated with special honey mustard dressing accompanied by 2 sides of our choice, Mashed Potatoes and Coleslaw.

Signature Rosemary Chicken Chop - RM 14.90

Just too bad that alot of desserts were out of stock, perhaps we were late for dinner but fortunately, we still managed to grab some bites from the Crazy Mud Pie. Why was it crazy? I guessed it was crazily big as it was about my palm size.

Crazy Mud Pie - RM 10.90
Although it was located in a bustling area or the food heaven where all the eateries gathered at Taman Sutera Utama, AnMour Cafe was still packed with queues even after dinner times. The locals seem to have enjoyed such affordable American fare here!
