Biseryu

The name "Biseryu" has a meaning, literally refer to beauty flowing to all parts of the world. The eating place has an interesting concept whereby dishes from 11 popular and award winning restaurants in different parts of Japan are being featured under one roof.

Floor Plan
Biseryu is a casual Japanese restaurant located in one of the prominent shopping centers of Orchard Road and that is Far East Plaza.

Having met the owner, Alvin, in the restaurant, we find that he is very passionate about what he is doing explaining the information of Biseryu and being friendly, sharing his recommendations to the first time patrons like us.

This is yet another "must-try" dishes. This in-house specialities, Norwegian Salmon Hokkaido Milk soup is prepared fresh daily with Salmon Fillet and Hokkaido Milk. Soup is light and tasty with handful of Salmon, leeks, cubed potatoes and carrots. Size is good enough for sharing, nutritious and wholesome but do note that there is a limited portion daily too.

Salmon Soup with Hokkaido Milk  - $12
Have you heard of black curry? Besides the usual orange, green and red curry we had in Asia, I have only heard of Japanese White Curry at Most. The Black Curry is unique in taste and gaining popularity in Japan. Bistro Ryu in Hakata City cooked their own spice mixture in pork and chicken
broth, leaving it overnight to bring out the richness of the Japanese Curry.

Pork loin cutlet was crispy with crumbs at the exterior. The pork loin had a good balance of lean and fatty meat. Black Curry was thick and not the usual watery base curry we had.

I paired my meal with a refreshing glass of premium wildflower honey lemon at $2.50. How I wish they can serve a bigger glass instead.

Black Curry with Pork Loin Cutlet - $19
The Fukuyoshi, voted by european Monda selection as one of 50 top chefs in Japan during 2016. The famous chef in his main outlet in Kanagawa prefecture, forumlated the best tasting Hamburg steak using Hokkaido's Kuroge Wagyu. All sets served with salad and rice.

Wagyu Hamburg  Steak with Sirloin Steak Set - $33
The steak was cooked to our ideal doneness as requested. It was well charred at the right portion with fried garlic flakes. We had the meal topped up with avocado at $3.

Additional Avocado - $3
While another starring item of the dish is Wagyu Hamburg steak, it didn't fail us and we would comment that the patty was juicy and flavourful.

Patty
It was a good experience dining there and after browsing through the extensive menu, we felt that they are not the main stream kind of Japanese eatery. All in all, the food and quality was worth the price paid.

The Sushi Bar

We was moving about in Orchard and suddenly my friend suggested we should have Japanese food for dinner and we headed to The Sushi Bar.

There were some items at 20 % and some promotions running on in this Far East Plaza outlet. Soon as we arrived and made our orders, all tables were gradually filled up by customers.

Sake - $5 Each
Thick and fresh slices of Sword Fish and Salmon Sashimi is definitely irresistible. I bet that explained the crowd and the "Trip Advisor" label on its glass door. For those who like Chirashi, they do offer this dish too.

Mekajiki $7.90 & Salmon $5.90
Vinaigrette Seaweed and cucumber was appetizing.

Wakame Kyurisu - $5.90
Perhaps, this has the better taste out of all items ordered but it was not served warmed.

Soft Shell Crab Salmon Aburi - $17.90
Each stick has 3 pieces of bacon wrapped enoki skewers. Aesthetically, it looked good with vibrant colors and as for taste wise, it would be better without the generous input of peppercorns.

Enoki Bacon - $7.90 2 Sticks
We had Teriyaki Sauce over salt on these 2 sticks of chicken skewer. It was heavily coated with sauce making it quite salty, however we find that there was too much of a frozen chicken taste in it.

Tori Momo - $6.90 for 2 Sticks
Its quite interesting to know that there are 3 outlets of The Sushi Bar located at Ngee Ann City, Far East Plaza and Tampines, each with different menu. Overall quality of food seems average to me and service standard was kind of unexpected from a Japanese eatery. Servers gave a feeling that passion was lost and only follow orders systematically. It lacked the kind of human touch that will complete the entire dining experience.

Fat's Boy Mix-and-Match

There were still ample of empty spaces left in our stomach after enjoying the petite portions of french cuisine nearby as our dinner in Far East Plaza and we decided to walk around for some bites. We chanced upon the burger bar which looked rather interesting and paused for a moment. The outlook of the bar looks funky looking with some cute characters drew on the wall. It's checkered tilings was blended well into its theme color, black and white. Shop area was not very big and can only accommodate up to 12 pax which includes 2 4-seaters table and 4 other seat by the side of the wall.

The idea of making my own burger had never come across my mind especially in Singapore where fast food are so easily available, prepacked and standardize. What most amazed me was that they had actually created an application on Ipad (available on 2 sets of ipad at the burger bar), suggesting customers to "build" their own burgers there. Implementing the use of the shopping cart experience system, its indeed very convenient and familiar to someone who had done online shopping before. Process of customizing burger was systematic, from choosing the type of bun, meat patty to even sauces add on just with a few triggers of the radio buttons. Sophisticated! When you are done with your choice, just click on "check out" and proceed to the cashier (And yes! At least there are still human touch)

A fridge was placed next to the counter, out of convenience, we grabbed a jar of Tiramisu. As seen from the picture above, the fridge was covered with a shade/screen, it was rather a good idea as it maintains the chillness, keeps the cool air within the system and not affecting the one who is sitting in front of it.

Bundled and tied up in a glass jar, Tiramisu Hero was real good, much more than I had expected.

It had an acceptable amount of alcohol content followed by a well controlled wetness level. The sweetness strikes a perfect balance between the pillow soft Tiramisu layers and the liquor. Yums!
Cost: S$7.50

We did not have anything fanciful and had just only built the basic of a burger, bun, meat, vegetables (pickles, lettuce, tomatoes) and sauce at no additional cost but it's all satisfiable enough.

Given an option of mix-and-match burger, it definitely attracts food pedant who are consciously aware their food intakes and those who likes to make their own burger. Having seen and tasted its quality, I would say that pricing is very comfortable, moreover the portions are "fat". This place is highly recommendable for its quality, price and portion!
