The starter, aptly named Four Combination Platter 心肝宝贝四拼, truly lived up to its title. More than just a dish, it carried a symbolic meaning and was presented beautifully, each component delicately arranged, making it both heartfelt and visually captivating. It was a thoughtful beginning to the meal.

Four Combination Platter 心肝宝贝四拼

Let's break down the Four Combination Platter (心肝宝贝四拼):

The pig’s liver was thinly sliced and surprisingly tender. Well-marinated with rich flavors, its soft texture made every bite totally satisfying.

On the left, the razor clams were generously dressed in sweet Thai chili sauce, refreshing and bursting with flavour in every bite.

To the right, the scrambled eggs were beautifully done, soft and flavourful, with shredded carrots, mushrooms, and chives adding a lovely texture and earthiness.

Egg

Moving to the fourth item on the platter, the smoked duck. It had a pleasant, subtle smokiness and was thankfully not overly salty, making it an easy favourite.

Smoked Duck

The orange roughy was beautifully presented in two styles, its head deep-fried to a golden crunch and the body delicately steamed. Served with two egg roes, the crispy portion was aromatic and satisfying, while the steamed slices were firm with a subtle, clean flavour. If not told, one might easily mistake it for cod.

The Tea Fragrance Smoked Salted Chicken had a delightfully crispy layer, with its aromatic smokiness and seasoning infused deep into the tender meat.

Elevate the flavour by dipping the chicken into the accompanying seasoning, it enhances the smokiness and adds an extra savoury punch.

Seasoning

Yet another dish that left a strong impression, the Hot Plate Oyster Omelette arrived bubbling hot, drenched in a tangy, appetizing sauce.

The eggs were perfectly runny, making each bite a rich and satisfying pairing with the plump oysters.

I'm Drooling Over This

Another standout dish on the table was the Crispy Leaves Hong Kong Kai Lan. The dish featured a crispy, golden top paired with crunchy stalks that absorbed the flavorful sauce, creating a satisfying combination of textures.

We literally screamed when the Stewed Black Pepper Crab in Hot Pot (2pcs) was served. As the pot cover was lifted, the peppery fragrance burst into the air, and it was simply irresistible. The crab meat was plump, juicy, and bursting with flavor, making every bite a true delight.

Don't let that irresistible peppery sauce go to waste, just add a bowl of white rice for a dollar and let it soak up all that savory goodness. Toss it all together, and trust me, it's absolutely da bomb!

The Cheese Crab is equally alluring. The presentation alone had me sold—it was visually stunning and definitely set the stage for what was to come!

We felt truly blessed as the boss personally cooked and served us his infamous plate of Hokkien Mee straight from the kitchen. It was a special treat we didn’t see coming!

Boss in Action

Here’s the legendary Hokkien Mee that everyone has been talking about. The noodles had beautifully soaked up the stock, resulting in a rich and aromatic dish packed with ingredients like prawns and squid. The portion was just right for sharing around the table without feeling too heavy or gelat. We even tossed in extra pork lard for that irresistible boost of flavor!

Like many traditional Chinese meals, it all ended with a dessert to wrap things up. The Lemongrass Jelly with Lemon Sorbet was a refreshing finale, light, zesty, and it absolutely hit the spot.

Vary.Sg

Dropped by Vary.sg at Arab Street to check out their viral Monster Fries. Riding the Gen Z wave, they cheekily describe their food as "Vary Halal, Vary Mindful, and Vary Demure."

Shop of Vary.Sg

Looking at the menu, besides their star Monster Fries, Vary.sg also offers a playful and hearty lineup like Varispuds (loaded baked potatoes with toppings such as chili jack and Swedish meatballs) and Varichos (nacho platters loaded with cheesy, chili, or guac goodness). There’s even a refreshing Lichi Mojito and familiar iced teas to wash it all down.

Menu

There are a few seasoning flavours to choose from, and we went with the Snow Cheese Fries. They are crispy, golden, and dusted with a cheesy snow-like coating that makes each bite addictively savory.

Snow Cheese Fries - $9

To elevate the taste, we paired our Monster Fries with mentai mayo and honey mustard, a perfect blend of creamy, savoury, and tangy that amped up every bite.

Mentai Mayo & Honey Mustard

The Lichi Mojito was cooling and refreshing, light, fruity, and a great palate cleanser after the savory fries.

The Beef Chili Jack was hearty and satisfying, loaded with flavorful chili over a bed of spuds, making it a fulfilling comfort dish with every bite.

Sour Cream

A savory shepherd’s pie with a cheesy top and hearty filling sounds like proper comfort food, especially if the meat layer was well-seasoned. From the image, it looks like it had a creamy mashed potato top with those slightly crisped cheese patches, which add a nice texture contrast.

Shepard Pie

That's always a pleasant surprise when a humble-looking or small unit spot delivers food that’s genuinely delicious. It sounds like they really put care into the preparation, especially with a well-executed savory shepherd’s pie like that.

Alongside our meal, we were treated to a generous assortment of banchan—those delightful Korean side dishes that always set the tone. Each golden dish offered a different texture and flavor, from tangy to sweet, crunchy to soft.

Banchan

Gyeran-jjim is such a comforting dish, especially when it's served bubbling in a hot stone pot. The soft, custardy texture with that savory, slightly nutty flavor from the broth is hard to resist.

Gyeran-jjim

Alongside our meal, we were treated to a generous assortment of banchan, those small but mighty Korean side dishes that instantly whet the appetite. Served in gleaming golden bowls, each dish brought something unique to the table: creamy crabstick salad, crunchy and spicy kimchi, lightly dressed fresh greens, zesty seaweed strips, and tangy marinated greens. But the real standout for me was the japchaethose glossy glass noodles stir-fried with vegetables had me completely hooked. I kept helping myself to it and couldn’t resist asking for more refills!

We topped up $20 for the soybean stew hotpot, and it turned out to be a comforting addition to our meal. Served bubbling in a pot, the rich, umami-packed broth was perfect for spooning over rice.

We especially enjoyed pairing it with the prime beef rib, which was tender and flavorful, almost like enjoying a warm, hearty porridge. It was the kind of soul-soothing combination that made the meal feel complete.

With Porridge

The seafood pancake (Haemul Pajeon) arrived impressively large, perfect for sharing among the table. Generously filled with green onions and chunks of seafood, it was beautifully pan-fried to a golden crisp. Conveniently cut into bite-sized pieces, it made sharing easy and enjoyable.

Li Xing Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee 利興炒福建虾麵

After passing by Li Xing Hokkien Mee several times, we finally decided to stop and give it a try today. The stall is run by a couple, whereby the man skillfully handling the wok, while the lady manages the orders at the front.

The presentation of the dish stayed true to a classic plate of Hokkien Mee. The ratio of white bee hoon to yellow noodles looked well-balanced, accompanied by ingredients like squid, prawns, and chives

Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee - $5.50

If you’re on a Hokkien Mee hunt in Singapore, this would come across as a fairly standard plate — the prawn stock isn’t particularly strong, but it serves well enough to satisfy a hungry stomach.

2112 Bakery (OG Bugis)

2112 Bakery is located on the second storey of OG Albert. Although tucked away in a corner of the shopping area, it serves as a cozy and convenient resting spot for shoppers looking to take a break.

Over at the pink side of the wall, it was quite interesting to see some hand-drawn artwork displayed on canvas, adding a charming and artistic touch to the space.

The hungry us couldn’t resist grabbing some pastries and cakes as we happily chit-chatted away during tea time.

Our Orders

I had read glowing reviews about the pistachio Swiss roll and decided to give it a try. The roll was spongy and soft, topped generously with crunchy pistachio nuts.

Pistachio Cake

It seems like pistachio-flavored items are trending right now. Both lattes were delicious — smooth, fragrant, and pleasantly not too sweet!

Latte & Pistachio Lattte - $4.80 & $5.80 (Cold)

The Yuzu Cheesecake was delightful, light, refreshing, and infused with a bright yuzu flavor. I appreciated that it wasn’t overly sweet.

Yuzu Cheese Cake

The Mushroom Chicken Puff was delicious, we loved the flaky, buttery crust, and the filling was just right, with tender chicken shreds, mushrooms, and carrots.

Mushroom Chicken Puff - $2.20

Likewise, the egg tart was a hit. We loved the flaky, buttery layers, the caramelised top, and the soft, custard-like texture of the filling. The style floated our boat, and we were glad it wasn’t too sweet, either.

Egg Tart - $4.50 for 3

Overall, I found that they serve delicious food, and being located in OG Bugis, the bakery café offers a relaxing environment, a perfect spot for us to take a break.

Peng Jia Zhou

While the concept of weighing food items usually reminds me of Mala stalls, it’s interesting to see a similar idea now applied to porridge too.

Each piece is a testament to the skill and care that goes into its preparation, making it a truly unforgettable addition to any meal.
