Dian Xiao Er (JEM)

Dian Xiao Er is no stranger to anyone who enjoys quality and yummy herbal ducks. It's also considered The Must Eat In Singapore.

It's been a while ever since we last enjoyed a good meal from Dian Xiao Er and with visitors around we welcome them with one of the popular To Eats. We ordered their Signature Set (人气套餐) for 4 pax with 7 dishes from their menu. We can choose to have plain white rice or brown rice at a top-up rate.

Kicking start the meal with these crunchy Baby Kai Lan accompanied by a dash of citrusy lime juice with a zesty touch.

The starring dish is none other than their Herbal Roast Duck. It was marinated with a blend of spices and Chinese Herbs for hours and roasted under a precise temperature which maintains the succulency while being in the oven. Crispy and roast to golden brown in appearance. Their roast duck was soaked and complemented with Angelica Herb Sauce which made everyone on the table sing with praises.

A special homemade dish infused with freshly squeezed wheatgrass extract and this block of silky homemade tofu was served with seafood bits, broccoli, and edamame.

Signature Wheatgrass Tofu with Seafood 自制小麦草豆腐

The fish maw soup with seafood was thick and densely nutritious. Tasty morsels of crab meat, prawns, mock abalone as well as fish maw made it so yummy.

Each piece of boneless chicken thigh was uniformly coated and flavoured in marmite, then sprinkled with roasted sesame. The taste was great and our guests enjoyed it.

The nutritious Hong Kong-style steamed fish slices were drenched with a special soy sauce and the taste was elevated by the use of shallot oil. Fish Slices were perfectly prepared to the ideal texture.

While some of us is craving for something spicy, we decided to order the Sambal Kang Kong. These vegetables were tossed in the right amounts of Sambal chilli and good to go along with our bowls of rice

Every dish was so palatable that our stomachs literally screamed in joy. Dian Xiao Er lives up to its name as the award-winning Chinese Casual  Restaurant.

Soon Jing Roasted Meats

While we tried a couple of stalls in Food Park, Soon Jing Roasted Meats is one of the last stalls we have tried. It drew our attention because a lunch crowd lined up in front of the stall.

Soon Jing Roasted Meats

We ordered the trio platter with Char Siew, Poached Chicken and Roast Duck with braised egg. The Char Siew was well barbecued and packed with smokiness while the poached chicken was smooth and tender. The roast duck was decent without a gamey taste.

Trio Meat

Overall the meal was decent and the soup provided was tasty to my liking. Overall, the portion was alright to us with a reasonable price and standard.

Lao San Prawn Noodles 老三虾面

With the newly renovated coffee shop, it is now vibrantly lit and a lot of new stalls to explore. With so many new temptations, I had to "ditch" the stall that I frequent visited to Lao San Prawn Noodles.

Stall of Lao San Prawn Noodles

Like many prawn noodle stalls, they offer a variety of prawn noodle dishes. We had prawn noodles with pork ribs. We opted for the dry version with Yellow Noodle. The soup was sweet and tasty while the bowl of noodles was packed full of fragrance with pork lard as well as fried shallots.

Pork Rib Prawn Noodles (Dry) - $6.80

They are average and comparable to most Prawn Noodles Stalls in the Hawker Stalls we had. Ingredients were pretty common with fishcake & beansprouts beside the prawns and tender pork ribs.

Prawn Noodles

If you are looking for a decent meal with Prawn Noodles Craving, this can be a good choice too.

Like the rest of the existing branches, the interior space is bursting with lush plants. While in Woodleigh Mall's outlet, they designed a seating area after a train cabin with window views. The Toy Train will also make its rounds around the cafe on the rail tracks.

Claypot Curry Fish 招牌砂锅咖喱鱼 - $38

We opted for the Fish Meat instead of Fish Head. I'm sold by the first taste of the curry gravy. It was not spicy and in fact, the taste was inviting and perfect to drench on our plate of plain white rice.

Yummy Curry Fish

Other than serving Claypot Curry Fish dishes, Yu Cun is also serves a good variety of seafood and meat delicacies that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

We shared the seafood beancurd, it was savoury and topped with chicken floss as well as mayonnaise.

Walaku Nasi Lemak Kukus

With some recommendations from the Foodie Group, I managed to make my way to Nasi Lemak Kukus in Alexandra Road.

Using the freshest ingredients to make their Nasi Lemak Kukus and their Signature Ayam Berempah, marinated with their speciality spices

Nasi Lemak Kukus

Starring their steamed to perfection and fluffy Nasi Lemak Kukus, we dug into our meal quickly after receiving our order.

The whiff of the rich, coconut-infused rice was to die for accompanied by the large piece of Spiced Fried Chicken (Ayam Berempah). The fried chicken was well seasoned with a flavourful blend of spices, seemingly including turmeric, lemongrass, galangal and other mixtures of aromatic herbs as well as spices.

Nasi Lemak Kukus Ayam Berempah Set - $6.50

The Chicken is crispy on the outside while remaining juiciness and tender on the inside topped with spiced batter fried crumbs, allowing an aromatic and delightful crunch.

Ayam Berempah

The set comprises fried egg, slices of cucumber, ikan billis and peanuts with chilli. The rendang sauce had a thick consistency and rich in flavour.

Nasi Lemak Kukus Ayam Rendang Set - $7

The visual appeal of the Ayam Rendang had already showcases the vibrant colors of the golden-brown chicken with the sauce. It is a successful execution with a harmonious blend of flavours, textures and traditional elements.

Ayam Rendang

We nodded and agreed that Walaku Nasi Lemak Kukus is definitely our kind of food. We will be back again to try out other items in the menu.
