Snow Mount Char Kway Teow

One would probably have given Teo Soon Heng Cockles Char Kway Teow a miss without knowing after seeing their signature since they are sharing the same stall with the "Goreng Pisang"(Fried Banana) Stall.

At a reasonable price of $3.50, one get to enjoy a plate of moist, cook to order fried kway teow showered with fresh cockles. Just like the traditional style of having Fried Kway Teow, pork lard was added to gave additional fragrance. Other than that, fishcakes, beansprouts, eggs, vegetables, chinese sausages and prawn were what sum up this tasty plate. For those who like over-dosage of sweet black sauce, I'm afraid that their input of sauce was just on the average, not too sweet and not too bland.

Char Kway Teow ($3.50)

While most of us know that a plate of tasty Char Kway Teow requires the blood of cockles to give a good punch to the dish, I must say that Teo Soon Heng's Kway Teow did fit the criteria, however I find that there was still something missing from the dish. It lacked of additional fragrant which was perhaps the type of oil they use.

Nevertheless, they are still worth the calories and I don't mind patronizing again. :)

Ding ji Teochew Noodle

When we talked about BCM (Bah Chor Mee), Ding Ji Teochew Noodle is pretty common in the food court as there were quite a number of their stalls in Singapore though their signature dish is non other than their Signature's Noodle.

Stall Name
Lean meat was used throughout for the bowl of Minced Mee Noodle (Mee Pok) which seems a healthy combination here with non greasy noodle sauce. Perhaps the braised mushrooms was the most favourful item in the bowl whereas the noodle was too dry with little sauce.

The soup on the other hand was sweet tasting but to think of it, lots of MSG was added as I become quite tasty after having this meal.

My Seafood House from BGain 727 Eating House

As I walked along the corridoors of BGain eating house, I was approached by one of my seafood house helpers if I would like to order any "zi char from them". Without much hesitation I ordered a bowl of fish bee hoon with milk for them.

Fish Meat Noodle - $5

Apart from the big slices of fish provided in the fragrant broth, what amazed me most was its pieces of diced yam included which I thought was quite different and totally reminds me of those steamboat fish head.

Sliced Fish

Overall, pricing was charged base on market rate and I would say that its the quantity we paid for compared to a normal bowl of $3.50 Fish Soup which has lesser slices of fish.

Fu Xiang Kitchen - Cook House

In fact there are quite a number of stall in Jem Cook House that suits my taste bud and one of them is none other than Fu Xiang Kitchen Starring Bishan's Best Curry Chicken.

Fu Xiang Kitchen
Even for the normal dishes, you can opt for an upsize in their omelette. Big eaters, this is for you! Besides having their famous curry chicken, one can also go for their Sambal Fish, Assam Fish or even Fried Grouper Set. One wont be bored by the varieties they had.

Menu
Upon having the first mouthful from chicken Curry Biscuit Set, memories flashed back. It tasted similar to one of those I had in my schools! From its curry gravy to the taste of the fried chicken. I was both surprised and elated. The gravy was not too spicy and besides the chicken biscuits, a big piece of fried egg.

A bowl of soup was given in the set. It was flavourful and filled with sweet chicken taste.

Yishun 925 Hainanese Chicken Rice 义顺 925 海南鸡饭

This branding "Yishun 925 Hainanese Chicken Rice" is rather popular among my clicks. Since we had a lunch date over in Jurong East Central, we decided to have a try at one of its stall located in Jurong East FoodClique.

FoodClinque
It's hard to avoid a queue when they were already famous. Just for our lunch, we had easily 5 to 6 heads ahead of us.
Chicken Rice Stall
Its rice smell good and filled with glossy outlook in each grain. However, I'm someone who prefer rice that is not greasy.

Rice
The plate of roasted chicken had braised egg added as requested and they were both fragrant. I must admit that its seasonings and the roasted layer of the chicken skin were delicious. On top of that, "Ah Zhar" was added which give the savory meal another level of sweet and soury taste.

The soup given on the other hand was addictive, I couldn't stop drinking from it after I dug in the first spoonful.

Chicken and Soup
Personally, they were good in taste but I find them oily.

21 on Rajah

Valentine's Day was just no normal day especially when it was make special by the man who took additional effort to make an advance booking in 21 on Rajah which is nestled in Days Hotel of Balestier.

Known for its modern architecture showcasing its Mediterranean cuisine and Singapore local favourites alike, the atomsphere of their dining environment tells us more. The use of color and design of interior was soothing and calm, hanged with cages from the ceiling, looking creative.

Menu was displayed on their payment counter, just before entering the restaurant.

As we were about 45 minutes earlier than our appointment, the restaurant looked quite empty on such a big day like this but as the sky darkens, the place gets more and more crowded.

Here's the Valentine' Day Set Dinner for Him And Her exclusively prepared by 21 on Rajah for this special day. A 4-courses fine dining meal for the dine with a slight difference in menu for its main courses.

Besides the presents and bouquet I had received on 14th Feb, 21 on Rajah had actually given a stalk of rose for every couple dined in and with a candle lit up, enhancing the romancing night throughout the meal.

While waiting for the courses to be served, breads were giving with a tangy spread which reminds me of those tomato pasta sauce. Served in a wooden tray, these breads were warm and fluffy, filled with lots of air pockets.

A complimentary drink from the restaurant to us, two cups of tasty blended strawberry smoothies that lends a nice gritty texture from its seeds on the smoothly blended ice. What's more, we had a slice of strawberry placed at the side of the glass which packed more romance into the air.

Starring the first course, Poached Egg with Soy Marinated Beef Carpaccio and Salted Seaweed as our appetizer. This combination was a perfect start and totally rock my socks off.

Clam Broth with Dashi, Pinto Beans and Cabbage soup was next in menu that caught us by surprise. Ingredients were placed on the plate first followed by hot tasting soup filled to its brim by the helper. Come with hints of lemon grass and the broth was sweet with lots of fresh clams included.

For him, we had slow cooked beef cheek with horseradish, miso chive mashed potatoes, braised Daikon and Lotus Root for the main course. Though the sauce and sides tasted great, I find that the beef was just too soft. It tasted close to the texture of beef stew whereby one bite of it would have tore it apart without much effort.

For her on the menu is the miso coated Halibut with braised Leek and Mussels in Kombu Broth. Presented with a foamy outlook, the food tasted fresh especially its mussels and Halibut stacked up by a bed of barley pearls . My expectation of the main courses were high especially when the sides were out of my expectation. However, I felt that it was a letdown due to that it was too salty for me.

The wait between the dishes were rather long even for their dessert which we thought could have be prepared before hand. Thus we had requested for the bill upon having our last course but we still we were forgotten.

Nevertheless, the desserts were delicately prepared and tasted average to sum up our dinner.

Despite having the in-charge apologizing for the long wait in between the meals, I still feel that they could actually do better. My observation throughout was that the team was still quite "raw" in handling such crowd and some even required the In-Charge to walk him/her to the customers' table to serve the food. Professionalism was abit lacking and just for 4 simple courses meal, it took us 2 hours plus to complete though we were there earlier.

QB Garden Mix Veg Rice.Teochew Porridge

As we walked along the corridors under Blk 359 of Bukit Batok, we saw QB Garden's wide variety of economical dishes spread out neatly over its counter. Not only that, we heard the loud sizzling sound coming from its kitchen which told us that they food were pretty fresh.

Stall of QB Garden
Stirred Fried pork with spring onions were pretty well cooked. Meat were thinly sliced and coated with sweet black sauce. However I find this dish abit on the oily side.

Stirred Fried Pork with Spring Onions

Dory fish was were warm enough and was fresh too. Chopped garlic and coriander leave had helped in reducing the fish smell.

Dory Fish

Fishcakes were springy and soft to chew with.

Fishcakes

Egg was soft too and tasty too but Tau Ki on the other hand was rather bland and did not have much braised taste. The gravy that it was soaked in was light brown translucent in color than a good black color expected. Thought it did not look that appetizing, they were cooked to a soften perfection where it did go went with the bowl of porridge.

While expecting the porridge to be of murky type, they were rather grainy which suit the style of the teochew cuisine. The bowl was hotter than we had expected. The only let down was its sweet potatoes that were near tasteless and hard in texture.
